I RE-MAPPED THE JOVI BUTTON on my Chinese NEX - Vivo Nex Guides, News, & Discussion

I had tried a few different button remaping tools and finally found one and the settings that worked. I'll update this post later from my PC with the steps I took, but for now, here are some basics - plus see screen shots.
The app: Buttons Remapper (no root)
The app config: From device settings , make sure you have all permissions turned on, all notifications enabled and high power consumption toggle on for this app. I'll post steps shortly.
The button Remapper config:
1. Open the app
2. Click the pink plus to add a new routine
3. Select " other" from the "key" drop down.
4. While on "other" ..push the Jovi button. This will produce a new entry in the "key" list. In my case it's " Key_308"
5. Select " long press" and set to 0.25. this is faster then Jovi responds so ...don't try something else or you may get Jovi to pop up first. It still can happen
6. Now under "action" select your desired action. I first tested "recent apps" which worked great. I then tested selecting the app " Google assistant" and then finally, I also tested selecting a Nova launcher action " Google assistant". All 3 worked.
So lastly, I went to the phones settings > Jovi > smart button > set this to " none "
Ok so I also tested with the app physically running in the back vs not, it seams to work better when the app is not manually closed. I did note that if you hold the button to long, I still get Jovi to pop.
Also, if you are on the always on screen and select the button, when you come out of unlock, Google assistant will be waiting there for you if that's the action you mapped to
That's all for now, I'll add more details when I am back to my PC!

Thank you, I will check.

Okay I am asking a siily question. Where do I find the Pink Plus.

I followed your instructions, work pretty well. Using it. Will see if I find any bugs

Confirmed working on Indian version too.
I had tried this app but it didn't work because i wasn't putting delay of 0.25 seconds. It works like charm now. Thanks man!!

Thanks for the quick reply and pic too. How did you go about getting Button Remapper to work under accessibility options. It keeps asking for me to log into my Vivo Account to allow it access to the system.

Good news. Also give permission to the app and Google Asistant woks great. I uninstall Jovi. [emoji1360]

Not sure about that part.. Indian version does not require a Vivo account. Wait for OP or any other chinese nex owner to reply.

Rebooting works well, but after a certain period of time, pressing the button again does not work.

I have an Indian Vivo Nex but strangely the side button when long pressed launches Google Assistant, and when pressed normally takes me to Google lens. No mods done whatsoever.

[Q] How can I turn off Google Now being always on when swiping to the right?

After unlocking my phone, I get to my home screen with all my folders etc. As soon as I swipe to the right, I get Google Now!
It's as if it's an always on widget. On my N4, I would invoke Google Now by holding the Home key and swiping upwards (which I can also do with my N5).
Is this something that can be switched off or is this an integrated function of the system?
I'm not looking to switch off Google Now before anybody asks.

As far as I can see the only option would be to either A) Uninstall Google Now, or B) Install a different Home Launcher ... Neither are suitable resolutions to your question. I personally like having it as a home screen since I turned off my softkeys in Lieu of LMS
The only thing I can think of is switch launchers to nova or something similar. You would lose the "OK Google" function from the launcher though., so not a good solution if you use that function. As far as I know there is now way to remove it from the stock launcher.

Thanks guys.
I don't mind having it but just wasn't sure if it was a feature that can be turned off without completely disabling Google Now.
Battery life is quite impressive on this thing even with it always on!

OK Google not working... Anywhere!

I know it's not supposed to work from a locked phone, but I can't get it to work with the screen on even. Any clues what could be wrong? I do have the bxactions app installed and using the Bixby button for Google now, but I doubt think that's the culprit. I've also postponed the first tmobile system update but it worked when I first got the phone. Suggestions?

Mine suddenly stopped working too. It could be the recent google app update that broke it, I remember getting that update. I retrained my voice again and so far so good.
Same problem here. Restarting seems to fix mine for awhile but something is causing it to glitch out and stop working.
Edit: seems to stop working whenever I open the camera, then it's stuffed until reboot.
After reinstalling google now working fine
Haven't had any issues with mine, even after the last update. Was using one of the Bye Bixby apps and had the button remapped to flashlight but uninstalled it due to the horrible lag the app produced.
It seems to be a problem with power saving mode. The mic stops working after turning on the power saver mode. Restarting the phone will F fix the problem.

No. Ok google doesn't work until lock screen is displayed.
is there any update to this?
for me ok google works for while, then stops working and a reboot is the only way to fix it. only annoying thing is i need to reboot every other day. this issue doesn't seems to be covered much?
OK Google not working? Fix:
If you set up "trusted devices" to keep your phone unlocked, that is what stops "ok google" from working. Its been that way since the Galaxy S6. Don't know why they don't fix it?! Go to Settings/Lock Screen and Security/Smart Lock/Trusted Devices. Remove your Trusted Devices and it will work again.

Will this make ok Google work when screen is off?
You still have to press the power or home button to wake your device, and then it will unlock it with the "ok google" voice command instead of using the iris, fingerprint, password, pattern, etc.
In my case, Google doesnt work holding the home button for search
Enviado desde mi SM-G955F mediante Tapatalk
Mine works when I retrai the voice model.. but if I use bixby voice it never works again until I retrain... I wonder if the two are conflicting each other. Samsung is probably purposely sabatoging Google assistant. To push bixby. I've only had this issue since the release of bixby voice
I had this problem for a couple of weeks and it was bugging the hell out of me.
Ok Google would work, but it would not speak back to me, just bring up search results.
For me the problem was in languages.
I'm in the UK and no matter how many times I set the language to English as default, the damn phone would constantly show Settings>Google>Search>Voice: as "English (South Africa)"
But in Settings>Google>Search>Search Language it would show as what it should be, which is "English (UK)"
Anyway, basically what I did was clear cache and data in apps tab, then set my S8 Plus as pictured below.....but obviously choose your own language and make sure BOTH show the same language....default and the other. (see pics)
Also click 'Ok Google detection' and select 'Retrain voice model' (after the cache wipe etc of course and after you made sure both screens say same language.
Select Say 'ok google' any time.
plus, I selected trusted voice, so also unlock screen too.
if your settings look like mine in the screenshots.....should work.
Matt
---------- Post added at 06:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:31 PM ----------
Also, go to settings>Accessibility>Text-to-speech and make sure Default language is the same as on the other screens.
That's what sorted it all for me anyway....
Ok Google works fine for me as long as the phone isn't being charged. If it's being charged, it is as if my mic is disabled.
Sent from my SM-G955U1 using Tapatalk
Here are some quick things to try that have helped me:
1) Restart your phone, its likely that going into high-battery saving mode disables mic and a lot of settings.
2) Remove trusted devices.
3) Reinstall and Uninstall Google
Ok so this is really annoying. On my lg g6, the phone can be locked and screen off. I can say ok google without touching the phone and it will unlock and be ready for my voice command. I am not get my s8 to do that. Ok google only works after physically unlocked. Then when i can get to open with ok google my daily briefing will not work no matter how I ask for it.

Quick Launching Camera from Lockscreen

I must be missing something but hell if I can figure out how to launch the camera from the lockscreen.
Used to be able to do it with a double power button click on my S8 but on my VZW Pixel 3 it brings up the code unlock first. I find that there are many times I just want to take a quick shot without having to unlock the phone.
For that matter, does Pie offer lockscreen widgets at all?
Thanks for your help.

Strange, works for me. It's possible a Device Administrator (work email, etc) is preventing it... They sometimes disable certain functions while the screen is locked.

Ah, yes, those were the days (pre-Lollipop) when my lockscreen was super useful and interactive, and so was my notification ticker in the status bar. I feel like an old man now remember how good things USED to be. lol
But to the OP, something is clearly wrong as this feature is turned on by default on Pixel devices. Try a factory reset. You can backup your phone to your computer using the adb backup and restore commands.
Did you select Camera as default app when launching with the phone unlocked? The first time it will give you the "open with" dialog. For me it was Camera and Snapchat. I selected camera and always, and now can launch camera from anywhere.

No, it'll work. You can't view pictures taken before using the camera unless you unlock
I try and get this screen
Works for me with pattern lock, don't use pin.
Just go to the camera settings then scroll down and turn on Quick launch
Enter your pin, and select one of your camera apps as "always" then it'll allow you to skip the pin when you double tap. ?

Thank you for the tip!
I hope by now the problem has been resolved, I was also looking out how to access the camera from the lock screen and it turns out (thanks to advice from friends not from anything I found from the many internet searches) that if you click the power button twice the camera pops up. You can check this by going to Settings- System - Gestures - Jump to Camera.

Hi,
You have to go to notificqtion, manage notifications and set them to emergency for all apps you want to appear on top preview and lock screen.
Also, you should go to battery and select the apps you want to allow to sort of run in the background under higy power battery consumption (or smth like that)
After you do this notifications will work like on other phones
Is not there a way to prevent the screen from activating the notifications? I activate the "always on display" mode and when the notifications arrive I do not want the screen to activate.
