Goodbye Ads - World of Ads Free Internet
Advanced Protection for Apps & Websites from Ads
The Best Apps & Website Ad Protection!
Hosts : 1,96,000+ | Size : 4mb
For more details about GoodbyeAds packs and Extensions visit oru github page.
◆Special Note for Users
We block graph.facebook.com. The reason is that this domain serves many of the ads. So, in order to use Facebook, you should consider to whitelist either facebook's main app, or whitelist graph.facebook.com in your ad blocker otherwise the Facebook app will not work (there are no problems with facebook lite app and other facebook client apps). If you are using Facebook lite messenger, then whitelist the app or whitelist mqtt-mini.facebook.com. Otherwise messenger will not work. We always recommend our users to use Open Source Facebook Clients for 100% ad free experience. If you are facing any problems feel free to contact us through XDA or Telegram.
◆What is a host file?
A hosts file, named hosts, is a plain-text file used by all operating systems to map hostnames to IP addresses. Host file preferred over DNS so if a domain name is resolved by the hosts file, the request never leaves your computer.
◆ Features
●small in size: The complete host list size is less then 2mb.
● designed for mobile phones: Goodbye ads is specially designed for blocking ads in apps and mobile websites.
● hosts based: based on `Hosts` file, all the bad stuffs blocked with `0.0.0.0`
● any device: compatible with all devices, regardless of OS.
● blockings: strictly blocks `advertisements, malwares, spams, statistics & trackers` on both web browsing and applications.
● speed you need: reduces page loading time upto `half` of its actual time!
● privacy: with all these annoyances blocking, it also `increases` privacy.
● saves expense: greatly decreases data consumption `saving` expense.
● clean: no `extra` bull****!
◆ Supported Ad blockers
Windows: Windows users can use this host file with Hostman, a software to manage host file.
Android: For non-rooted devices, this host can be used with DNS66 or Blokada free and open-source ad-blocker.
For rooted device, this host file can be used with Adaway, a free and open-source ad-blocker for Android.

Hello
I want to try your host
I had few hosts and just added yours, but I realize that your host were listed as "Not Available"
Will it still works or maybe I missed something here

Go on with this work!! I'm impressed!
Tiny list but interessting.
Best regards!

sp.auth.adobe.com
sp.auth.adobe.com blocks android users from signing into app Channels i.e. History, ESPN, Starz (spectrum login). Its annoying having to put it into whitelist across several devices.

NetGuard can prevent applications from using the internet (=firewall).
You can allow/deny internet access for each application, even system applications.

There's no "best" - this is subjective.
You have a list of apps, and you can choose whether or not to allow an app access to the Internet over WiFi or Mobile data.
Whether or not you want to let an app access the Internet is up to you.
I have just released alpha version 0.2 with quite some things improved.

I have just released beta version 0.3

Not on a granular, per-app basis, at least right now.
NetGuard for Android works by creating a VPN service at system level. Based on your choices in the allow/deny screen, NetGuard will set up VPN rules for which apps are forced through the "VPN". The "VPN" isn't a real VPN; rather, it just sinkholes the traffic to nowhere.
The limitation here is that when creating these rules, we can only set which applications' traffic enters the VPN. We can't granularly control which requests or hosts they can talk to, on a per-app basis. It would be possible to set "for all apps" a whitelist/blacklist of IP addresses, but this would be quite different, and would likely be less useful as a firewall, and more useful as simply an "ad blocker".
The VPN interface doesn't tell us which app is trying to access the internet though - we need to set it up before-hand. There are ways to tell, but Google (or a careful OEM) could easily block those with SELinux policy updates, and the goal here is to try to get all the functionality we need without any kind of root access.
Nice app for non rooted users.
I've just created an issue on Github though.
French translation done.
I'll try to create an icon this weekend if I have free time. Let me know if you want a specific color,... etc.

The problem you have reported is probably caused by a broken VPN implementation in your ROM. I will look into it later this week more detailed.
I like to keep the current colors, realizing not everybody will like them, but I know from experience I can't make everybody happy anyway.
Thanks for your translation!
@Primokorn can you please try if you have the same problem with one of the no root firewalls from the Play store?

[HOW TO] Block Advertisements in the OFFICIAL YouTube app [ROOT] (Finding the ads)

Welcome Android users!
As we all know, ads are extremely annoying. It seems like there are more ads than ever in today's Internet world.
Today I will not only show you how to block ads in the official YouTube app, but will also TEACH you how to find their ad domains using an SSL packet capture technique, that way you can find all the ad domains, and block them.
We all know that developers need ads to make income. Having ads will help support developers. But some put too many ads which can be annoying. Don't do this if you support ads. However, If you really don't like ads at all, this tutorial is for you.
The official YouTube app would be the perfect example. Yes, the ads in YouTube has gotten out of control. But remember that this is just an opinion. You do not have to agree with my opinions. I don't mind some ads, but if there is a video ad at EVERY video I watch, that annoys me. You may heard of an app called "Adaway". Most root users probably use adaway to try to block YouTube's ads but after looking at some of the threads on XDA, I am beginning to notice that adaway isn't blocking ALL of YouTube's ads, and that people are still seeing ads. So instead, we are going to actually FIND the ads, and block them by modifying the "hosts" file.
Requirements:
Android Phone that is rooted (BusyBox is recommended!!)
Sift - SSL Security & Firewall App (It's on the Play Store!!!!)
A root browser (Doesn't matter what root browser!)
Hosts Editor (Also on the Play Store!)
Blocking ads using the hosts technique is nothing new. People have been using this technique to block ads for a long time. But how exactly do those people find these "hosts"?
Just like with Windows, Android has a hosts file. It is located in the directory /system/etc/hosts
The hosts file basically maps hosts names to I.P. addresses. If you open it up with your root browser, you will see this line of text :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
127.0.0.1 localhost
That is your original local host. To block a server or a domain, we will simply add a host name. For example, if I wanted to block www.google.com, I would simply add this to the hosts file:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 www.google.com
Of course you need a root bowser with superuser privileges to do this. Now try going to www.google.com on your browser. It won't load. That's because you blocked the domain.
That is basically how you block a domain. So let's get started with blocking YouTube's ads.
1. Open up Sift - SSL Security and Firewall and tap on the button on the bottom right. It will ask for your permission to set up a VPN connection. Tap "ok" and it will start running.
Now everything will go through Sift's Firewall and will be captured. Go ahead and open the YouTube app.
2. Just start watching videos until a video ad appears and let it play. Sift will capture that video ad :good:
3. Now go ahead and exit the YouTube app and open up Sift. Go ahead and disconnect from the VPN. Tap on Youtube and you SHOULD see all these kinds of servers like:
Now which servers do you think are the ad servers? Obviously ad.doubleclick.net is one of them. That is a no-brainer. Now all we have to do is add "ad.doubleclick.net" and all the other ad servers that we captured to the hosts file.
4. To make it easier, use Hosts Editor by opening up the app and clicking on the plus button. Add it to the hosts. Should look like this:
Then tap "Add Hostname" .
Congratulations! You have successfully blocked your FIRST ad DNS domain!
Obviously there are more. You might see these ad servers as well:
securepubads.g.doubleclick.net
suggestqueries.google.com
redirector.googlevideo.com
and much more!!
WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't block EVERY hosts you see that is captured in Sift!!! You OBVIOUSLY don't want to block www.youtube.com. To help you root users, here are the domains that you do NOT want to block:
youtubei.googleapis.com
i.ytimg.com
android.clients.google.com
yt3.ggpht.com
Sometimes you might come across a weird domain like r5---sn-q4f7snel.googlevideo.com.
I haven't been able to officially determine if those are ad servers. YouTube has ALOT of ad domains. I believe different YouTube channels use different ad domains. But I haven't been able to determine this out yet. If you are still seeing video ads, keep adding host names until you don't see any ads.
For a good start, I added a modified "hosts" file to help get you started. Download it below and overwrite your hosts file. Make sure to make a backup if anything goes wrong!! Make sure you set the correct attributes (Permissions) to -rw-r--r- also, remove .txt extension.
View attachment hosts.txt
You can also try this method with other apps too!
I really hope this helps everyone who doesn't like ads. Please leave any comments or suggestions that you may have!
I have been posting a lot recently on XDA so I will take a break. If you have any questions, It might take me a while to reply.
This is dope!!!! Im using the modified YouTube APK to get rid of ads and so far its been great (a few members have mentioned ads have been sneaking through of late but I haven't seen any). I'm more interested in trying this with a few apps.
DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE
Sorry but YouTube bypassed this. I am still seeing ads. Instead, visit the link below.
You will actually be using a modified apk in which you'll have to replace your original Youtube app.
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/block-ads-androids-youtube-app-without-using-xposed-0173683/
Sorry yall. Don't try my original method. It only blocks SOME ads
Even if this DOES work or you so find another method of blocking ads I think it is important to know:
When you block ads you are stealing from your favorite YouTube content providers. I have seen videos created by a few of my favorite Tubers and they confirm this and they plead with their subscribers "please whitelist my channel." I know that the typical opinion about this is "oh my ad blocker only takes money away from the YouTube advertisements dust it only affects Google." This is far from true and you are stealing from your content provider who you claim to like.
I always tell people:
Please do not believe me. Please do not take my word for it ever. I do not want people to listen to anything I have to say as though it is fact. Although I do not go around talking about things I don't understand, I fully advised people to do their own research and confirm things for themselves. It is true that using your ad blocker makes your view of a video become unmonetized. It also may make it so that when you click "Like" for a video, this will go into a category of unmonetized likes. Again please look this stuff up for yourself.
I suggest:
If you appreciate what your YouTube Creator is doing, that you help them out some way or another. Perhaps you would like to support them on patreon. if sending them cash money is not an option you are able to utilize, the next best thing to do would be to not use ad blockers.
What I do:
Because there is a viable method for removing all ads from the YouTube app on xboxOne, I choose to utilize it. Because it's nice not to have ads on my TV. However I do do not add block from my phone which I use when I'm out of the house for watching videos and stuff. The other thing that I do is since I have a secondary laptop that is not being utilized for video watching:
I open a browser window, I go to a YouTuber's home page, I turn the sound off and begin playing one of their playlist. And I leave adblocker disabled. I pick a creator whom I haven't done it done it for lately and I leave it run for hours.
There is a modded YouTube app that blocks all ads in the apps. Just search for advanced YouTube.
I also block all ads everywhere.
Are you saying, you are not watching any of the contents and yet just let the device consume power/resources and contributing to global warming for no meaningful purpose?

By default it will be overwritten. But you can add custom filters within the dnsfilter.conf (see filter.host = true|false settings).
Alternativly it is possible to disable the automated filter download so that the FILTERHOST.TXT won´t be overwritten.
Just check dnsfilter.conf file for details. It contains a good documentation of the different settings.
Sorry, these might be some dumb questions, but really trying to get this to work on an Android phone running 7.1.1:
1) do I need to check "Advanced settings" in order for those settings to work? If I don't check it, I can't scroll down to view the logs, unless I'm missing something
2) Also, any reason why some of my custom entries in the "Advanced settings" doesn't work? (I put in entries to be filtered and those are still allowed in the log and entries to be allowed, but those are still blocked.) I've hit Reload filter and Restart and sometimes it works, but more often it doesn't.
3) Lastly, any reason why other times my entire "Advanced settings" erases? How can I get those entries to persist?
Thanks for putting this app together, hopefully once I know what's going on I'll be able to use it much better.

Yes .... better edit the dnsfilter.cfg file. In addition: the advanced settings within the GUI only allows to edit the filter URL and reload interval. In case invalid values are added, it will be reset to the previous valid entries (Check for messages in the log area)

Can you please advise what the difference is in your fork? All I can see is that yours supports v5+ while the original supports 4.2, but I don't know why.

You mean AdAway's source ?
You mean AdAway App ?
or anything else ?
A flashable zip that can come in handy.
How is it different (& better) from adblock & adaway?

I'm not saying it's better
Differences ? Not much. AdAway is doing the same thing too. But AdAway don't have all the sources. I extend the sources as much as I can. I will add as I find and keep my mode extended - updated. You can paste these sources to the AdAway. Make this from there. But it will add commentary # entries and watermarks too...
Adblock ? AFAIK it's a plugin which ads from web sites. Hosts is system-staff. It will clean both web browsing and applications.
--------------- OP UPDATED WITH FLASHABLE ZIPS ---------------
Will check it out. Thanks for making it a flashable .zip
Feedback: Can't access Facebook and Instagram via browser. Twitter works, but pictures/media doesn't show.
It certainly does the job, but perhaps a bit too aggressive when blocking social media

I haven't seen an add blocker that can block YouTube ads since Xposed. Can this really block YouTube ads??
Also...can this work in conjunction with adaway?
Edit:. Didn't block any YouTube app ads for me....

Alot of links got blocked when using the internet, which hindered the use of internet surfing and ads in apps like youtube were still there so I had to uninstall to get internet functionality back.
The only patched youtube app I ever knew of was the xposed youtube app but exposed doesnt exist for nougat...only marshmallow.
-------OP UPDATED--------
- Made a new build -----> social media entries removed. For people who face problems with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
- New sources added, all sources merged
- Seems like hosts can't block YouTube ads. Nothing to do with this, sorry.
Thanks for the update

[APP][5.1+] TrackerControl: Control Trackers and Ads

What is this about?
TrackerControl allows users to monitor and control the widespread, ongoing, hidden data collection in mobile apps about user behaviour ('tracking').
To detect tracking, TrackerControl combines the power of the Disconnect blocklist, used by Firefox, and our in-house blocklist is used, created from analysing ~2 000 000 apps!
Additionally, TrackerControl supports standard blocklists.
This approach
reveals the companies behind tracking,
allows to block tracking selectively, and
exposes the purposes of tracking, such as analytics or advertising.
The app also aims to educate about your rights under Data Protection Law, such the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Under the hood, TrackerControl uses Android's VPN functionality, to analyse apps' network communications locally on the Android device. This is accomplished through a local VPN server, to enable network traffic analysis by TrackerControl.
No external VPN server is used, to keep your data safe!
How to get it?
TrackerControl is available on F-Droid, the most popular open-source Android app store:
Alternatively, the app can be downloaded directly from GitHub, including automatic checks for updates:
https://trackercontrol.org/
Problems?
You have another VPN service, such as NetGuard? Sorry, only one VPN supported.
You are on Android 9+? Try to disable 'Private DNS' from the settings.
You are on Lineage OS 15.1 / 16? This has known issues with VPN.
Disclaimer: The usage of this app is at your own risk. No app can offer 100% protection against tracking.

Latest version fixes some issues with Android 11!
It won't install for me on Android 11 w/ F-Droid. I just get "Error installing TrackerControl: Failed to install due to an unknown error"

No, negligible. You won't notice any difference from your normal battery usage.
HoW is this different from let's say blokada or adguard ?great tool nonetheless

The tool is meant to show you more insights into blocking (e.g. the type of tracking, the companies behind tracking, and destination countries), whilst allowing granular blocking for each app.
By default, all detected tracker communications are blocked, including google.com. This will break stuff and needs more configuration for each app but reduces unwanted and unexpected data collection.
New version comes in 8 languages!
Download here: https://github.com/OxfordHCC/tracker-control-android
TrackerControl now has its own, dedicated website: https://trackercontrol.org/
It's tracker-free.
Too bad it doesn't support custom dns addresses and requires a vpn to use. Would be nice to make it work together with Adguard.

You're right about AdGuard. The VPN solution is meant to make the app easy to use.
However, you can add custom DNS addresses and custom blocklist, auch as AdGuard's, in the settings.
New release:
- FEATURE: Add port forwarding
- Categorise more trackers, add 'Fingerprinting' category
- Fix problems with Android 11
- Clarify updating of block list in UI
- Update translations, libraries, and block list

Excuse my excelent english , i hope you understand.
Nothing's in the world is for nothing. This cost your Time, the webside cost ...
My money will traveling to you. 2 way's: donate-button or make a pro-version.
I pay for pro-version 5€. Only to help you.
lovely greatings

I'm very impressed with the usability and granularity of this app, but I need to retain the ability to use VPNs. Is there a similar solution for root user? Or is there a way for root users to "chain" VPN connections and use TrackerControl with other VPNs?

I'm afraid that this is still an open problem. Blokada offers VPN for its Pro users, but you need to pay, must trust the Blokada company with your network traffic, and will have a different user experience compared to TC.

Hi James,
This is very kind. There are no plans to introduced any payment or donation option. It's just a personal project. This will mean that updates for TC take more time, the app frontend is less fancy than for similar apps, but hopefully to create an app that you can trust.

It's not just privacy type VPNs I need, I also use VPN to access my home network and work. The best workaround I've found so far is to create additional work profiles using Island or the FOSS fork Insular. Each Android work profile has a separate network connection, so this at least allows me to use all the VPNs I want concurrently, including TrackControl. But not together on the same profile as you're aware.
I saw another post indicating that chaining VPNs together on the same profile requires root access, which I'm fine with, but I still haven't located any info how to actually execute this.
Kudos for creating a great piece of software that really fills a need. You've managed to create a package that is highly effective and reasonably straightforward, not a simple task. Thank you for your work.

I like this workaround! I've added this here: https://github.com/OxfordHCC/tracker-control-android/issues/61
One thing that I'm considering adding is automatic changing of DNS, depending on WiFi networks. This would allow to switch to PI Hole in a local WiFi network if needed.
Fabulous interface!! One thing, what's your thought on adding a quick pad for blocking url?
I.e let's say in log, I found ads.alibaba.bla and want to block. May be a option to send it so block list?
Well the app is a lot cleaner, so may be in advance options, a option with a pad where I write a url, and url will be added to block list?

Glad you like it! I'm on it!
I want to add domain-based blocking soon. Users would then be able to choose whether they like the easy blocking or want to use advanced blocking instead.
