Stylo 4 / 4+ / q stylo / q stylo+ / q stylo alpha MEGA INFO THREAD - Android General

Why does this thread exist? So I have, for the past 37 days, sent an email every 2 days to XDA to please give us a stylo 4 / q stylus / q stylo sub forum.
I have yet gotten a response back, and we still do not have a sub forum.
Right, so here we are in the stylo 3 plus sub forum. For now...
What is this thread about?I wanted a place for all of the internet to discuss development for the stylo 4 / q stylus / q stylo.
I also wanted to clear the air on all the different stylo 4 / q stylus / q stylo that exist. And which one is right for you to purchase BASED solely on what each different phone offers.
What this thread is not for you-Please do not ask questions for owners of the phone about what it's like owning it.
-Please do not post about how you wish the bootloader will be unlocked soon.
-Please do not post about other devices outside of the stylo 4 / q stylus / q stylo.
-Please do not ask which phone you should buy.
So what are the differences between the devices?Stylo 4 & 4+ aka 4 plus = for United States (so far). At no point have I found ANYTHING, as of 8/7/18 on the internet that a stylo 4+ or stylo 4 plus exist as an actual name. I have only found speculation that the name exists...
Q Stylus, Q stylus+, & Q alpha = unsure. I only know of the Q stylus+ and that one is for Hong Kong. But the names exist from LG's mouth.
Q Stylo+ = Canada.
-United States Q710AL Boost 32GB / 2 GB RAM / 1.5 octa-core
-United States Q710ULM Unlocked 32GB / 3 GB RAM / 1.8 octa-core
-United States Q710MS MetroPCS 32GB / 2 GB RAM / 1.8 octa-core
-United States Q710TS T-mobile 32GB / 2 GB RAM / 1.8 octa-core
-United States Q710AL Sprint 32GB / 2 GB RAM / 1.5 octa-core
-United States Q710ULM Amazon 32GB / 3 GB RAM / 1.8 octa-core
-United States Q710AL Virgin 32GB / 2 GB RAM / 1.5 octa-core
-United States Q710CS Cricket 32GB / 3 GB RAM / 1.8 octa-core
-United States Q710US Xfinity 16GB / 2 GB RAM / 1.8 octa-core
-Canada LMQ710WA 32GB / 3 GB RAM / 1.8 octa-core ~IP68, Mil-Spec, & 16mp camera~
-Hong Kong LMQ710YBW 64GB / 4 GB RAM / 1.5 octa-core ~IP68, Mil-Spec, 16mp rear cam, 8mp front, dual-sim & available in 3 different colors~
What I sepculate-I speculate that the Hong Kong version won't work on United States LTE.
-I don't think ANY of the United States phones will ever get bootloader unlocked.
-I think the Canada phone may work here in the united states on any GSM carrier and support LTE bands. I have not been able to find any info on WHAT bands the phone comes with from the LG canada website.
-I think that all the United States phones are also IP68 certified. I see no difference in build quality between them and the other phones outside the United States. I have also showered with my stylo 4 I bought from MetroPCS many times and no issues.
-I think the Canada phone will get bootloader unlocked soon.
-I think some phones have fm radio and others don't. I didn't really take the time to check that. Maybe they all do?
^^Side note^^ Venting here. I am confident there is someone at LG HQ that makes these names up on purpose to keep his/her job "important". In typical LG fashion, they can't just make one awesome phone with a stylus for all markets. For those of you in the USA, I believe the phone to buy will be the Canada version IF & ONLY IF I can find the bands the phone comes with to see which carriers it will be compatible with.

If anyone knows a mod or admin, do you mind having them move this thread to https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help please?
I just realized we don't have a stylo 3 plus sub forum either.

Glad to see the forum up & going, regardless of where it's located. Thanks for the updates re specs & et al.
Subscribed and keeping my eyes open. As I hear / read things, I'll post them too!

Great info, thanks. You can find the bands and other info for the Canadian version at

(edit: at least the bands for the phone available at Freedom, not sure if all are the same)

Thank you for the link with bands.
I believe it will get it because it is the "+" variant.
Stylo 3 still doesn't have bootloader unlocked.
But the Stylo 3 plus does (I own one)
Let's cross our fingers they all get it ?

Does anybody know if it's possible to flash a T-Mobile
q710ts Stylo 4 .kdz onto an unlocked MetroPCS q710ms Stylo 4 using LGUP or LG Flashtool? If so, does anyone have a T-Mobile .kdz file or know where I can get one? I've been doing extensive Googling, but I can't find any info on it, so I created an account here. Thanks!!

Very unlikely the kdz file is out yet. As I recall, the kdz file for the Stylo 3 didn't hit until the first (or maybe 2nd)update.
It'll be awhile, I'm sure

I'm a green eared LM-Q710CS owner, with service through Cricket Wireless(obviously mirroring over the AT&T network). My phone was bought outright as an upgrade from a LG Treasure (only could afford free for my first cell phone as a free man). I regestetered for every single LG membership I found during my time on my worthless Treasure. It's been just over a month since my purchase and while I'm happy with the value of the phone I bought at such an affoardable cost, I find myself wanting to squeeze this bad boy for all its worth(my insurance covers any and all damages to the phone for a $78 deductible regardless of cause).
As I browsed through my developer option menu for the first time I noticed the slide selector to activate OEM unlock near the top of the menu. I'm quite behind the times due to my local district courts appointed jury decided I should go to prison for pulling a knife in order to disarm a young man whom had just threatened to shoot me at point blank range(Since you have to deal with my most likely worn out question, I figured I'd let you laugh at why I don't know the answer).
I haven't seen any mention on any of our phones threads or forums referring to this unlock, but isn't this setting some sort of option that allows you to access the Bootlader through a fast boot access menu? The last time I touched a super user permission everyone wanted a piece of that Kit Kat code.
I've looked online all day for two days now and have not found a reliable source I would trust to lead me through the new process, since I havent seen any root access guides in our community. If any one can help me out here, or even if something about this unlock option interests you be sure to let me know. I'm willing to assist in any way towards device improvement in any way I can. Just let me know if there's any thing I can do to assist you in return.

Hello Everyone,
I got the Lg Stylo 4 Metro PCS phone maybe like a month or so ago .
And this issue has been happening randomly where ill be Typing a text and the feedback Vibration just stops , than it'll start working again .
I did multiple tests to see if it was the LG keyboard or Google Keyboard ( not them )
Downloaded a hardware test everything came back perfect
Downloaded a APP called Vibration tester where any place on screen will VIB when touched ( I go to this when it freezes and and sometimes takes a few seconds (maybe like 8 sec ) To start working again.. )
I did a fresh wipe worked for like 3 days then happened again ..
I have only basic apps social media apps and music at this point because i thought it mite have been one of them ..
but i am out of options i don't know if there is someway to look at the coding to see if something is a miss or if its firmware

Hello,
First time Stylo owner here. I picked up a Q710ULM from my local Best Buy a couple weeks ago. I was able to swindle them into price matching the Amazon variant when it was $209.99
So far I really like it. I love the display and the specs more than meet my needs. Well worth $209.99 to say the least. I do quite a bit of computer and device repair on the side. I wanted a phone with a stylus for when my customers pay via card. This is my first non stock Android device. I was sick of paying $700+ for a phone with high end specs that I would never actually utilize. I don't game on my phone at all and don't take many pictures either. The cameras on the Stylo 4 are good enough for me to take before and after pictures of my work.
Any recommendations for me? I have been watching for a stock Android theme on the theme store. I bought the unlocked version for the higher specs and with hope that I could one day flash a stock rom. A stock theme would be good enough for me.

Hi, i'm interested in this phone, the model Q Stylus with mediatek's cpu. How is the Stylus? is like writing on a paper?
The cpu is so bad?

I'm stuck with the Stylo 4 from metro, not too happy about it. Probably would feel a lot better if it had its support from XDA. Maybe some mods and so on. Can't find crap for this phone and I'd imagine it's fairly popular.

I'm thinking about buying an LG stylo 4 plus. I havent seen it sold in USA. Theres a variant called the LG stylo 4 (without the plus at the end). Does anyone know if its possible to root the plus version?

I found a link about rooting the LG Stylo 4. Will it work? Link is here:
https://www.techdroidtips.com/root-lg-stylo-4/

Coming straight from their website:
"You will be able to unlock bootloader only if the LG developer supports the device. However, at the time of writing this article, this device is not yet supported by LG Developers. The tutorial below is 100% correct & you may try the steps once the device is supported."
But has anyone been able to make any development in regards to the phone, as mine has become sluggish only after using it less than a month. Would really love to root it.

Question about the 32GB/3GB Variants

Hey guys,
So long story short, I had my trusty G3 die on me a couple months ago. I then got a hold of a practically new only ever used once G Flex for a couple hundred, and I have to say that in all honesty, it's one of the best phones I've ever used.
But now I've gotten to the point where I need more than a 720p screen, internal storage with no SD Card slot and a better camera. As well as a general improvement in specs. The G Flex 2 perfectly fits what I want in a phone, everything about it is exactly what I want...Theres just one problem.
I had the Europe/International/D855 variant of the G3, but the EU variant of the Flex 2 doesn't come with 3gb ram. Only the US one does. So I'm wondering, would an unlocked US variant work in Australia where I live? Or is there a variant that would be better suited? As long as it's a 3GB/32GB one, I don't mind.
Cheers. Hopefully going to be joining you all soon.
Tl;DR: Will a US Variant work in Australia unlocked? Is there a variant that will work better?

Samsung Galaxy A20 SM-A205U (MetroPCS) Final Thoughts - Don't Get This Variant

Well, I've went and swapped out my A20 for a higher end Moto. I've essentially went back to Moto, as much as I hate Lenovo. Why?
Because Samsung is an A1 Asshole and at least Lenovo gives you the OEM unlocking.
This variant nor the T-Mobile variant have OEM Unlocking. Confirmed by T-Mobile PostPaid Tech Team as well as Samsung. Waiting 165 up hours or 7 days ain't gonna do it folks. The feature is intentionally blocked out, and any attempts to get at it will result in the phone rebooting by itself. This isn't something Tmobile asked for - many of their variants and Metro's variants are OEM Unlockable.
This is something Sammy did all by themselves with that Knox crap.
This phone is free when you switch to MetroPCS - it's not even worth that. I also had an issue where my A20 took control and did something to my computer, which resulted in me having to do a system restore and making the final decision to chuck it. Never once have I ever done that on a phone, especially Sammy - this ain't my first fistacuff fight with the software they make.
If I wanted a phone locked down without reproach, I would have went back to Verizon.
Good luck American variants holding out the torch. I'm off to play with a real device.
I'd like to buy an A20 in the US, and want to be sure I can run GSIs on it. Which versions of the A20 are available in the US, with unlockable bootloader?
GSMarena gives the following part numbers:
- SM-A205FN/DS (Global)
- SM-A205U (USA)
- SM-A205W (Canada)
- SM-A205F/DS
- SM-A205GN/DS
- SM-A205YN
- SM-A205G/DS
On Amazon, I see lots of "unlocked A205G/DS (International Version)". Best Buy has an "unlocked" A20 with Best Buy part number SM-A205UZKAXAA (probably Samsung SM-A205U =USA), and will often price-match Amazon.
This is a good question, wondering the same...

I got the A305G international version Samsung Galaxy A30 & had to figure out the CSC is Puerto Rico (DOO) to even get close to working on 4G LTE with T-mobile... still have to use 4G LTE only app to ensure dwnld speeds...
The screen just died, and having about a bill, $100 to quickly get a phone picked up this relatively new A205U from a local pawn shop. First things first, being in the telegram group for the A30, which has TWRP, can run GSI's out the wahoo, etc... it is relatively common that others around the world flash firmwares for other countries just to get the updates that will not arrive for awhile if at all in their countries. One dev even made an aroma .zip that added CSC's, removed knox....
What I'm getting at is if there is an international version of this A20, I bet the firmware could be loaded using odin & CSC's for the USA could be placed in it. Thereby giving us OEM unlock & open bootloader.
This just occurred to me 2 days after reading in here & I have posted to the dev in the A30 telegram group on this....
C'mon peeps, this is XDA!!! Let's hack the **** out of this pos samsung served up!!!!!!!!

Chipset Exynos 7884 (14 nm)
CPU Octa-core (2x1.6 GHz Cortex-A73 & 6x1.35 GHz Cortex-A53)
GPU Mali-G71 MP2
SM-A205F, SM-A205FN, SM-A205GN, SM-A205YN, SM-A205G, SM-A205W, SM-A205U
Specs above, isn't Exynos the more dev friendly SoC? Better than Snapdragon?
Those are the other models OUTSIDE the USA that W-I-L-L have 1. OEM unlocking, which means 2. UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER....
I'm going to sammobile to get the A205G firmware now... really would like some feedback cause I not only AM NOT A DEV, reallllly cannot afford another phone currently if this renders mine useless!!!!!
Why am I the only one on XDA that thinks like this? Sure not..........

Boost Mobile Compatibility

Hi All,
Pardon if this has already been asked but I cannot find a similar topic specific to the question below. There is a lot of development around this phone and I would like to get back onto a phone similar to this.
Can any Oneplus 7 Pro phone be used on the Sprint network or is there a specific submodel that needs to be purchased?
There does not appear to be this phone or the 5g version being sold anywhere I look (GM1917 and GM1925). I am specifically looking for a phone that has 8+ GB of ram, 8xx snapdragon chipset (66x+ chpset) and decent custom roms available. There appears to be the T-Mobile Mclaren edition (HD1925) but again, this phone is a different model and is technically a different subforum. Either way, the question above is the simple question I am looking to be answered.
Thanks all for the support!
The Sprint version would probably be best.
Sent from my OnePlus 7 Pro using XDA Labs
Thank you for the reply. The issue is (and why I am posting about it) is that I cannot find the sprint specific phones online. Calling up the local Sprint store, they say have one in stock. I have the S10 and have little motivation to dump more money in a new phone. I was wondering if a generic unlocked phone can work. It does not appear that many people have the answer though.

Waiting to hear this myself.
A71 4G uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730
A71 5G uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765
Possible the same method works, but with different CPUs, not a guarantee.
I think a few other phones may be using that chipset, so there is some hope!

Was looking at this phone for the half-price promo. Enjoyed my LG G7, but it's time for a bigger screen (argh, age eats your eyes).
The G7 from TMO never got cracked, the over variants did. I'm not optimistic for a bootloader unlock on this one for that reason. Still, it looks like a great phone for $300 and tax, unlocked or not.
That would be disappointing. I haven't been on a locked device since the S2. Hoping the promo builds enough interest. So far I'm enjoying the phone.

FWIW, Package Disabler Pro works on this phone.
I know this was likely a given, but, just wanted to put it out there.
The package disabler & Good Lock options make for a great phone, whether you get it for half-price or not.
I had the S10e for a brief period & I'd take this phone over it all day long. Performance is equal to or better & the addition of 5G & a lot smaller hole-punch & this one wins hands-down.
If nothing else, order it via telesales & if you're not impressed, return it within the buyer's remorse period to avoid a restocking fee that you'd be charged if you did the same buying in-store.

Picked it up at a local Tmobile brick store.
Love it.
Excellent photos, the camera updates came thru today with the ROM version update. Very configurable, also loving popping the thing into 64mp mode for detail- there's a lot to play with. 5g works well.
This was a steal at 300 bucks (I just happened to have to add a line.)
The Mrs. just got the OnePlus 7T, and I liked it so much I thought about the OnePlus 8 5G from Tmo, but I think I'd have to get the OnePlus 8 Pro to get a camera this good.
Mostly, I've always gone for top of the line phones, mostly for the gee whiz factor. But the top of the line at 1399 absolutely just isn't worth the extra oomph to me anymore.
Yah, the speaker could be better, but who listens to music without headphones or a decent Bluetooth speaker, really... this comes great through my UE Boom.
Couldn't be happier. The fast charging is so good I don't care about wireless charging, I can't exhaust the battery in a day anyway.
Thanks for the good steer!
I've tried to flash Magisk onto the US version, but it just wouldn't work. Could be because I can't find the OEM unlock switch. Any ideas?

Whether you use the direct method (which sounds like what you tried) or use a custom recovery to flash Magisk...I think either way you need an unlocked bootloader, which we don't have yet.
I would gladly pay a reasonable sum for a solution
to unlock the bootloader/root/unlock this device.
It's a fine device for my own use, and seems to be among the higher-end devices.

Yeah, I'm annoyed I'm having to do without root. I rooted the first Android phone (G1) back in 2008 and have had rooted phones ever since.
My last phone was a Note4 that I rooted straight out of the box and kept it for 6 years.
So I'm keeping my fingers crossed and (im)patiently waiting.
It looks like Samsung phones are dead locked.
The last Samsung phone was Note 3 and no more.
The first 5G phone will be Moto Edge.
I was offered A71 but I refused it

Let's me address some of those statements there:
My previous phone was a Note 4 that I rooted the second it came out if the box in 2014....and had it for 6 years. I can personally assure you the Note 3 was not the last Samsung phone to be rooted.
The exploit required to root the Note 9 & S9 was found in Jan 2020.
And lastly, the A71 (previous non 5G version) has been rooted and instructions are available in the forum for that phone.
This one will get root, its just likely to take 4-6 months for someone to figure it out like nearly every other phone out there.
The A71 5G is a new phone only on the market a few weeks. It will get there.

And the A71 was a US model?

It was not. Europe & Asia only, but plenty of people in the US bought unlocked ones. I almost did myself since it was less than half the price and has already been rooted. But I didn't want to wait the 2 weeks to receive it and the 5G had just gone on sale.
The reason the A71 5G was introduced in the US market was because if I had walked into a carrier store in May, my choice of Samsung phones was either:
1) a flagship product with a 4-digit price tag
or
2) a sub $200 budget phone.
The A series filled in the midrange gap in Samsung products rather than forcing me to an LG, HTC, or Moto product.

FWIW, Package Disabler Pro works on this phone.
I know this was likely a given, but, just wanted to put it out there.
The package disabler & Good Lock options make for a great phone, whether you get it for half-price or not.

Holy smokes, thank you! I was skeptical on it working without root, but you're right, it's night and day. I think I have 3x more apps disabled than I have installed. The fact that you can get rid of idiotic stuff like Bixby is worth the 3 bucks right there!
I am currently looking into bootloader unlock and root method for all US Models.
I have combination firmware and stock firmware and am digging through them currently to see if an exploit is available

So have you found anything which may be a way in?
Yours is the first feedback which seems to show promise, at least on the surface.
so far all the old methods have been patched in both bootloader and boot.img so i am trying to see if i can escalate privlages on the combination firmware to be able to bypass a few CVE patchs and hopefully gain root to system or get the bootloader to unlock.
small update i would need engineering firmware for me to be able to crack the firmware and a engineering token so unless you happen to work at samsung and are willing to lose your job then unless someone more able than me is willing to take a crack at it im at an impass.

Motorola One 5g Ace - retail unlocked, on Verizon?

Verizon will sell you a somewhat stripped down version of this phone, the One 5g UW Ace, with 64GB ram and 4GB rom, vs. 128/6 on the retail variant.
I'd like to get the retail unlocked version for slightly better specs and to avoid having all the Verizon crapware that becomes permanently embedded on the phone.
Does anyone have any real life experience using the retail version on Verizon? I am especially concerned with Wifi calling, as parts of my home absolutely require this feature.
Thanks for any input!
I am using the retail version on AT&T. The wifi calling works great.

I've had the retail phone for over 6 months and it is solid in call quality / WiFi calling (I'm on T-Mo) but if pictures are important to youm it will disappoint" the camera quality is similar to a 2014 Moto G's camera.

My interest is to have a decent phone that works with Verizon and that isn't stuffed with carrier crapware. Photos are secondary...
My Metro variant 5G Ace is currently on US Mobile's Verizon network. What I did was:
1. Input another IMEI to port my phone number because the 5G Ace isn't on Verizon's "compatible" phones list (I used an unlocked iPhone in my case)
2. Put the SIM card into the iPhone to activate the card. (My 5g Ace didn't have service right after porting, YMMV)
3. Put the SIM card into the 5g Ace
Also, I'm not able to change the preferred network type and the signal bars in the status bar change to a different design for some reason.
WiFi calling works as well.

Hi Fonewatcher, I am glad to find this thread as I just bought a plan through T-Mobile yesterday, and chose another Moto (the Moto One 5G Ace). Am not sure I have wifi calling, but I would like to know a lot more about this phone. I found an excellent tutorial to follow here, but I also like to find others that use the phone & service just for occasional tips if I get stuck.
For the thread topic I wanted to check and see how to get rid of as much bloatware, T-Mobile apps, ads. I don't believe I can actually make the phone "retail" because I know some apps I can't uninstall, like my last Moto G6 from Verizon. When I closed my Verizon Acct. I still was unable to uninstall the apps Verizon put on there. I found one video this a.m. here and I think it was pretty good on clearing off but if there is more I can do I would like to learn.

Look in the guide section here. Getting rid of TMO stuff seems to be a big part of the motivation for the writers of the guides.
