Bluetooth Phone Calling - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

Hey all,
Its been a while when I couldn't make any phone calls using any bluetooth devices, non work; car, headphones, loudspeakers with mics even with the phone toggle on in bluetooth settings. This started before the first beta of P, sometime after purchasing the device.
I know that there are some bluetooth problems with some people on the pixel and Android Oreo and Pie but couldnt find any information if these problems are solvable or not.
I installed the official Pie update today and the issue has not been fixed, does anyone know if there is a solution to this or should I wipe the device clean and start over?

I have no issues. I'm using the pixel 2 straight from Google, on verizon. Make sure to do a clean wipe when upgrading to Android P, not a dirty flash.
I downloaded the factory images (not OTA), flashed the update script in Windows which wipes everything by default. I then rooted using Magisk 16.7.
I just took a phone call using phone speaker with no issue. I then used my sennheiser momentum wireless bluetooth headset to call my voicemail. No issues, and sound quality is great.
So yeah, make sure to do a clean wipe on the update. I recommend the latest factory images and not the OTA. Perhaps maybe your radio and/or vendor images are mismatched? The latest factory image will make sure everything is in sync.

Can't hear any audio during an incoming call

I am using a non-rooted stock rom based Moto G 2015, XT1550.
Sometimes when i accept a call, I can't hear anything but the caller can hear my voice perfectly, that is the mic is still working.
This occurs only once or twice during the day and only when somebody calls me. Unfortunately the 30 day return/replacement period is over so I can't return the phone and my network receptions seems to be ok.
Theses are the steps I have taken to try to resolve the issue on my own but without any fruitful result:
1.Tried factory resetting the phone.
2.Wiping cache partition
3. Rebooted the phone
4.When this issue occurred tried plugging in the headphone, switched to the loudspeaker,
placed the in-call volume to the maximum but none of this produced any audio output.
5. Tried testing the earpiece using the service mode *#*#2486#*#*, worked OK.
When I faced this problem I wasn't listening to music or using any apps(like if the audio was routed to the headphone port and not switching back to the earpiece).
6.This happened before and after the recent stage fright update.
7.Disabled OK Google detection.
8. Moto assist was also off.
My data and bluetooth are always off, I am not using any new or unfamiliar apps that might cause this issue. Could this be a hardware issue? Please advise me on how to fix this issue...Really need your help :crying:
If I could find any fix I will update this post soon.
Try flashing the stock firmware, maybe that helps it.
(Warning: downgrading can cause problems)

xt 1541 audio issue

Hi, i recently update android to 6.0. After update audio works just fine, but then someday i decided to turn off whatsapp notifications. From then I was unable to hear audio in the phone: video, phonecalls, etc. Audio still works when using speaker in phonecalls for example, but not in videos or other apps, even in phone calls only works speaker. Another stuff: I received a phone call via whatsapp, i had the bt connected to the car stereo, since then i can't hear BT audio anymore!
I erase all apps settings, wipe cache, wipe data, restarted phone without any apps, but the problem still there.
I don't want to send my phone to the hospital!!!! :crying:need some help! thanxs in advance.
If you got some time, flash the stock firmware images(found on this forums) it will wipe your data though so make sure to make a backup

I just flashed a new 6.0.1 rom XT1541_OSPREY_RETEU_6.0.1_MPI24.107-55_cid7 just fine. Before flashing i made full wipe, but audio still not working: ex.: notifications and speaker in phonecalls works, but not the earphone or audio in videos (not even in speaker). Any idea? thanks, hope i made myself clear.
Weird.. you tested it without any app installed other than the system apps?

when i just restar the phone after installing new rom y made a phonecall, but the earphone was dead, only speaker. Audio in videos is dead in any platform: yt,fb,web.
Any idea? thanx!
Sorry I can't help you, it doesn't seem like a hardware issue so maybe it can still be fixed
Sometimes I have audio issues, like the speaker get dead, and only have audio in headphones (calls, ringer, multimedia). But I slap the phone in my hands a couple of times and the audio returns. It seems to be a hardware problem in my case.

How to flash device driver binaries? Fix Pixel Mic/Audio issues?

I want to know how do I flash any if the files found on Google's developer site. (https://developers.google.com/android/drivers#sailfish)
It gives *.tgz files.
The reason for this is that my pixel has been cursed with the dreaded mic issue. I hope that flashing a driver image could help restore some functionality. It has now even spread to my speakers, the phone can't produce audio and videos and audio don't play unless through a Bluetooth device. AUX is not functional.
First it was just the mic giving issues and I good just reboot the phone and it would work again for some time. But now rebooting does nothing and now I can't even hear sound to play a video or game. Please help.
Just to give more description I want a way either via fastboot or adb or through the Recovery to install these files, if possible. Would it solve the issue?
Other issues include not being able to swipe to answer calls and the phone freezes if I do. Apps crash sometimes if they require audio output.
Same issue here (Searching for a used dead phone - 2017 manufactured, maybe screen cracked, body damage etc. So that I can replace the mobo as most of them say this is the way to fix it).
I saw some comments in Google forums that ''Android P beta builds'' fixed the issue for some. Wanted to try that, but I am not able to find beta links (As beta is over)
Installing drivers is worth a try.....Even I would like to know
So anybody has any ideas yet? Anything software wise at all?
Try flashing some custom roms and kernels
**FIX** unlock BL, twrp3231, pixeldust 9.0 ROM, magisk 18.1
Hey friends I was having same issue after stock to 9.0 update (with all patches up to today 3-9-19) on my pixel, first it wouldn't read a Sim and I unlocked the bootloader and used adb to fix that by resetting the modems, then less than 24 hours later it dropped the mic and then sound all together (probably with one of the first updates).
So I updated the phone completely and still no mic no audio. Checked xda and only found this thread. Tried 4 times to download the Google fix and every time it failed so I can't say if the adb sideload fix works but I had already prepped the twrp room and magisk files so I proceeded with that after 24 hours and no solution I could find.
Much to my satisfaction as soon as the rom was loaded (pre magisk) i heard audio. Continued to root and came out with sound and mic and mobile data finally! Pixeldust is very nice so far, snappy and lots of options though maybe a more mellow graphic designer for the stock wallpaper is called for!

Microphone not working...

My Google Pixels microphone randomly died after some point in its lifespan, but happened recently. First i updated version to Android Q Beta 1 (and it was working all right on that version) but when i updated it to Android Q Beta 2 (microphone stopped working and whole UI experience was buggy, some apps not working, random restarts, etc...) but then i got it back on Android Pie, and it worked for few minutes into boot and died yet again... Then i installed custom ROM (Pixel Dust) with TWRP recovery and Root, but nothing of those helped, then i got it back on Android Pie via adb sideload OTA. That didn't help either... So i don't know is it the software problem (because it seems to work first few minutes after i boot it) or is it the hardware problem. I use my phone mostly for phone calls and now because microphone is dead, it lost its functionality... But speaker was working, earpiece and 3.5mm jack.. Any suggestions??
i'm having a similar problem at the moment. Since the April OTA update, phone calls stopped working. Even when using a BT headset. I tried reverting to Full Recovery Image from february, but that only helped a bit. Also, any other audio app was not able to use the speaker. With the Feb version, youtube and google music were back working, but phone calls are still not possible, causing the telephone app to freeze. I was thinking about installing some custom rom too, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. Did you try to wipe the cache in recovery?
Update
found three possible workarounds for people having the same issue, perhaps one of those helps. I'll go through them today evening.
You could try enabling the "Disable USB audio routing" in developer options and see if that works for you. It did work for me

Maybe is a kernel error..but definitely is not a hardware problem. maybe try changing kernels. o downgrading to 7.
since none of the above tricks worked in my case, i booted TWRP to clean the caches. Didn't bring any good result. So i flashed ElementalX Kernel and now i got some kind of a better result, even if it's still weird. Everything works now except incoming calls. I can actively call other persons, use whatsapp or facebook audio calls and all is good. Only if i receive calls, still mic is muted.
I will try everything from above, and hopefully something will actually work and get my Pixel back in life. I will get you updated guys.
Thanks for the support.

None of those helped so far, i'll try flashing some kernel then...
I discovered that when i try to record with my camera video, it says "Can't record audio. Another app is using the mic." Also when i try to record audio message on Messenger app, as soon as i click on microphone icon it says some error.
Update, my sound and video won't record, both on Youtube or Instagram or any kind of video audio playback.
Update
I flashed ElementalX kernel and same stuff happened, phone calls and microphone was working for first 30 minutes then it got back to old days, not working as usual. Now i think this is hardware problem

have you tried chaging vendor image, or getting a vendor image from a working pixel?
I installed lineageos 16 without gapps and is working good for hours until installed gapps.

Microphone works for recordings, but not calls or CIT

I'm at my wits end:
I recently tried installing vanced youtube on an unrooted Poco X3 NFC. Afterwards a few permissions were reset, but everything seemed fine, except that somehow during calls no one could hear me anymore. I reversed the whole setup, but the problem persists that no one can hear me during calls.
Recording apps or voice recordings in WhatsApp work fine though. Recordings are clear.
I tried Simple Caller as well, but the same problem persists.
CIT tests of Main Mic show low volume coming in, but never to full volume, even when I blow into the microphone hole.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? I was thinking it might have something to do with the MicroG installation, since MIUI (as always) doesn't play nice with any software hacks.
Enter test menu to double check hardware is not a problem. Just dial * # * # 64663 # * # * and do all mic tests.
If you running Magisk, disable it completely on its settings, so no module/other will change system files systemlessly (on "fake/mirror" system) after a reboot and test again all mics.
Besides that I suggest to flash again the ROM you are using and try it. May be a dirty flash if using some custom ROM....just to be sure actual system on system partition files are not touched.
Another 2 points to consider: have you been playing around with flashing Firmware and/or Kernel? This can be affecting hardware access. If so, then consider to flash again newest available that known to work fine for your very specific variant / Android version.
As a last resort a full flash of newest stock ROM (MIUI v12.5.1+) by fastboot + factory reset afterwards can be interesting to do a final test.
Just to remember: voice recording, whatsapp call (VoiP)....this is not processed as same way as a regular phone call (PSTN), the hardware that deals with the voice processing (after mics; DAC) are different. For instance you can skip (and also test) this when putting a regular call by using a bluetooth phone/mic...the bluetooth device will do the voice process this way.

I did do the CIT tests. Main MIC recognizes some input, but the "speedometer", never passes the third marking (of 10), no matter how loud I am. Same is true for the Top MIC.
The phone is still locked, so I don't have Magisk or anything else installed. I'm on Stock ROM with newest version (MIUI 12.5.2 (RJGEUXM))

While you replying me I've edited my message. Read it again, please.
And now knowing those additional information I'd suggest you to BACKUP your data and factory reset device. And test again with it clean. Specially if have updated MIUI recently.
You can also test it before and after factory reset with a bluetooth mic. Put regular phone calls using bluetooth.
It would be nice to also try your SIM card on the other SIM slot or better test another SIM card on your mobile (both slots). Or at least test your current SIM card on an old / third-party device.

Thank you for your quick reply. It's quite interesting to know there's a difference between phone calls and voice recordings.
I connected my bluetooth earphones and tried call and recorder again, but it yielded the same result as before - call: the other side couldn't hear me; recording: perfectly fine.
I'm afraid a factory reset might be needed. I'm just trying to get around it and it's baffling to me, that the microhpone works perfectly everywhere else - only not at all during calls.
I tried switching the SIM card from slot 2 to slot 1, but it didn't change anything either.

Your bluetooth not working to call in fact are good news: this suggests more a software problem and not a DAC/hardware problem on mobile mainboard. And this does happen, my girlfriend has a Samsung with this kind of problem and I've also read similar others.
By the way I've read a few weeks ago in a local Poco X3 Facebook group of my country a guy with exactly same problem as you. He started to have the problem after upgrading MIUI v12.0.x to v12.5.1 if I can remember, but preserving data. After he tried everything that I suggested he endup factory reseting and this finally solved his problem. At least in his case seems it was some kind of data getting corrupted/incompatible when updating MIUI.

That's good to hear. I may have to factory reset it tomorrow then. It's the phone of a friend, which is why I tried to get around it (the whole backing up of stuff, etc.), but it does seem to be the only solution. Thank you for your help. I'll report back if it worked, if I do it.
Short update. Somehow the thing fixed itself over night. Next day the microphone worked again. Idk why, but this meant I didn't have to factory reset.
