Hi guys,
I saw that there is no offical support for Dex for A8, but is it possible somehow to get it working?
I have a european double SIM variant, if it matters (SM-A530F/DS)
Thank You

A8 actually has DeX support in kernel if you check ccic drivers (in fact my custom kernel is tweaked to make DeX work with any Hdmi adapter/dock), just system hasn't the various DeX apks/services in frameworks, so with a firmware port from a DeX-ready device (S8, S9, N8 and N9) it could work

Thank You for your answer.
So at the moment there is no way, and I have to wait until someone ports a firmware?

Answer in short is yes, I would like to add DeX support in stock fw with the mod pack I'm planning to release for A8 but DeX invokes are almost everywhere and add them all is a nightmare lol. Port the whole S8/Note8/S9 firmwares would be a lot easier (tho I don't wanna work on/release a port since I still don't own the phone, but someone else will probably port it lol)
Any progress?
Hello,
Has there been any new progress on this? It would be really good to have DeX on the A8.
I have an A8 and could test whatever is needed if someone is working on it.
Is there a possibility to do it now?

The version of the xpad driver shipped with this version of the linux 3.10 kernel doesn't support xbox one controllers.
https://github.com/TeamRegular/android_kernel_alcatel_msm8916/blob/dts/drivers/input/joystick/xpad.c
The driver is about 2 years old. If someone has a custom stock kernel available you could ask them to pick the changes here I just made for latest xpad driver from upstream
https://github.com/TeamRegular/android_kernel_alcatel_msm8916-stock/commits/cm-13.0-xpad
Thanks for the reply, there doesn't seem to be any custom kernels available for the 6039y so far (atleast here on XDA), maybe that'll change in the future but I'll have to wait it out and ask nicely when one arrives.
disregard this post, information gained after a bit of lurking on Github.
Talking about Idol 3 5.5, is there any procedure to implement gamepad support?

I have a generical green asia controller which works in my Tab S. However, my Idol 3 5.5 doesn't detect it, i have read that may me because a lack in a file called joydev.ko. I'm trying to compile it with a tutorial from XDA, any idea on how to make it to work?
PD: Sorry for my bad English.

My interest in making the gamepad to work in the Idol 3 5.5 comes from this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.killig.gamepadime&hl=es, as the developer states that if the kernel has USB host mode and joydev.ko support it works.
I have found some modules here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987482 in XDA.
Please, let me know if you need some more information. I appreciate your work and effort.
Hi, I want to know if there is any ROM or possibilities for a development?
Possible Yes if there is any development going on at the moment no idea!
I know there is development for the s7 edge version
No. Not possible.
Sources not open. Ever wondered why there is no AOSP? Same reason

Not true... Sources are here : https://github.com/MiCode/patchrom
Need 6.0.1 ROM to be patched. The S6 has a very good working MIUI 8 since a little time.
Samsung officiel 6.0.1 of S7 can be patched and get working MIUI but we need dev.
AOSP is not exactly the same. We need sources from Samsung but for MIUI just patch Samsung ROM without needed sources.
I´m talking about S7 sytem sources. You need a system to build it on . and I don´t mean kernel sources.
If it was "just" patching, why don´t you try it?
Guys, I can't find any Oreo roms for my Z5.
Is it possible to build one with Xperia Open Devices Project?
yes it is but will take you a long time
XperiaDev has not updated the sources to support Oreo.
This means that you will not be able to compile AOSP.

yep, any support official (Sony) or "unofficial" (SonyXperiaDev) got abandoned,
so community needs to step in ...
There could be a way to get the phone part, etc. working from what I read (sonyxperiadev)
HOWEVER that would leave out the camera from the equation (something similar is currently happening for the M4 Aqua where burtcubbins is porting the device to 4.4 kernel)
So the thing is:
if anyone ported the device to the 4.4 kernel (which includes "legacy" gpu driver support) we would have all functionality, except camera
and probably a blazing fast phone + much extended AOSP & update support (including Android 8.0 and 8.1 and perhaps beyond)
Anyone has interest to work on it ?

How about No?
I was part of the stock based bringup for a reason. That reason was to never ever touch the SODP Kernel along with the Z5 ever again.
So the answer is No.
Absolutely Not.
No.
@Myself5 I understand you dont want to help because you have done a lot but ocasiaonly peaks and tests or edits would not hurt would it and to any developer reading this please just try

even the other devs (seemingly ?) aren't really sure what commits are needed to get the full/enhanced functionality - the basics might be there but perhaps something's missing
in any case the repo is at: https://github.com/sony-msm8994
I'm right now not interested in working on Oreo or any other matter,
I've flashed to Marshmallow again on the Z5 and do some investigation related to battery consumption and others there.
Currently not much time for flash-testing and ROM development.
I remember having seen kernels with commit changes from Nougat to Oreo but not sure which exact kernels those were,
bullhead, angler , oneplus2 - some of those must have been
We really want you guys to do it. Oreo port would be a beast of ROM <3
Not having the updated kernel sources (probably) shouldn't be a problem
since we can (attempt to) port the Oreo ROM from Xperia X and add the missing kernel changes from the Xperia X device (kernel diff)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-x/development/ub-xgen-rom-1-0-5-xperia-x-t3778738
HOWEVER
after reading the following:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-x/help/upgrade-via-ota-to-oreo-terrible-t3754928
it's rather pointless to try anything related to porting or updating to a higher Android version:
best battery for now (at least in my experience) use a modded Nougat or Marshmallow ROM with Stock kernel + Stock kernel modules,
that'll get you the best battery runtime when e.g. listening to Music, browsing, etc.
Also: I've done countless passes of different kernel releases and each time as soon as security updates, enhanced performance, etc. is added to the picture at some point (couldn't pinpoint exactly how or why, I suspect it's somehow perhaps looping inside the kernel) it miraculously starts to drain like it had a 4000 mAh battery
- this is ridiculous !
There simply isn't much potential to be gained in this device ( /me peers at the Note 3 and its improvements over time ... /sigh )
hi @zacharias.maladroit so is there still development for the z5 oreo rom or is there no point? I will try port that rom for xperia z5 just like i did for z3+ because believe it or not it actually works and i wll see how it goes
---------- Post added at 05:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:11 PM ----------
also are you developers already trying to copy to the z5 cos if so it would be appreciated as i am a noob and just discovered the files are a lot different so now i need to actually learn

Not that I'm aware of, just noticed the similarities in hardware between the X and Z5, Z5 series and did a superficial quick comparison
So not sure if others are currently working on it ...

Well, a lot of files would need adaptation, and then there's the question if the GPU could be driven ... at all
the file and folder structure looks quite different ...
vendor/ueventd.rc
vendor/manifest.xml
vendor/qcril.db -> vendor/radio/qcril_database/qcril.db (?)
msm8994 specific hardware bits / drivers, thermal (very important !, or we're relying on third-party thermal driver solutions to try avoiding any potential issues)
touchscreen (also synaptics clearpad?)
and that's only looking at the vendor folder
So guys, I saw that the Note 9 has the same Exynos processor as the Note 10 lite, does this make it possible to Port a ROM with DEX working from note 9, to this device?
Would this be possible without interfering with the infinity-o display??
On the processor side, yes it is possible.
The only problems are compiling a working kernel and make sure that the USB board can do it.

Do we need a full on developer working on it?
I just want to see the things we can do if we manage to do this, maybe Dex?
I'm willing to do any testing

You need a full on developer. I don't know how to do it. You'll have to search on the Note10/10+ or S10/10+ forums for kernel developers and talk to them.
Why would you want to do this? As they both have the same OneUI features. The only differences is in the materials used in each device and the hardware specs.
Hello all!
First time poster, just getting into rom porting and android dev.
making this thread, due to the serious lack of information / boards about these tiny china phones that are flooding wish/aliexpress and are stuck on android 6.0/7.0.
I've tried to use a few different roms as ports (where i patch select files from etc/lib and all that good stuff) using a guide found here specifically for mtk chipsets. I've only tried x32 to x32 same SoC, and patching kernel from stock rom in. This was without any kernel changes, still patching in my 3.18.19+ kernel over mostly 7.1.2 roms built for 3.18.19. I'm guessing the + makes it completely different like mt6737 vs 6737t or 6737m.
My goal is to port an MTK kernel to my current device (soyes s10, mt6737m android 6.0 kernel 3.18.19+ 3/32gb model) that supports android 7.1.2. I've found what I believe to be an almost the same version device tree, and I have ubuntu and windows and am rather well versed in both.
I'm not sure how to discern the kernel version (linux ver) of this download, but my "custom build version" is looking very similar, alps-mp-m0.mp1-V2.84_bd6737m.35g.b.m0_P81.
I'm mainly wondering:
1. Who else has some of these tiny china phones (only band 41 us support!) melrose, ifosa, soyes, unbranded, etc? I've ported over TWRP for this device also if anyone is interested. root was simple enough with mtk-su. It flashes zips but it wont boot roms. it's TWRP 3.2.1.0 or 3.1.2.0 I'm not 100%.
1a) could my whole problem be solved by porting a newer version of TWRP for the device?
2. can I port newer kernel 3.18.35 from source above?
3.MTK's whack implementation of fast charging, PE+ 2.0 support for my mt6737, they send 15w (5v3a) motorola branded charging brick with phone. but it seems to charge at random rates, not fast charging. Not sure if it's even worth it to try and find a brick that is listed as MTK PE+ compatible. anybody have any advice there? it would be a dope phone if the fast charge was reliable. maybe I can mod the kernel to force enable it in the future.
4. why won't any of my ported roms boot? I can't find a modules folder in my stock fw's lib image(s) where it should be in order to port. are these maybe just located in the root of /lib and very specific files I have to cherry pick and port over? i'm thinking android -all modules = no booting. not really sure where i'm going wrong but it's a million questions in one so if you can answer any of them, please chime in
I forgot I can't post any links, but like I have links to stuff
Thanks guys, I've been lurking these forums for near a decade.
It's nice to meet all of you, looking forward to some good learning
Nick
Hi mate.
First off, I'm really sorry -but I can't answer any of your questions...
I'm looking at the Servo S10 for myself, though ; how did you go with everything -any progress?
Also, how is the battery life? Sounds like it's not a deal-breaker. Sorry again that this isn't an answer to your questions, but I'd appreciate the feedback.
