Twrp + magisk didn't worked for me giving bootloop but patched boot worked fine and don't use if you don't want just use twrp + magisk

How exactly is this done? I can't get TWRP to work and for obvious reasons, nor magisk...this title is misleading.

Fastboot TWRP then while in TWRP flash the patched boot image. Reboot to system and you will find Magisk. Use Magisk app to flash Magisk and it will stick and TWRP will have disappeared unless you have flashed the installer first before the boot image.
Not misleading at all, did you bother to read the prompt to 5.1.9?

Yes sorry was tired
Fastboot twrp, if you want twrp to stay flash the installer zip and reboot to twrp (if you flashed the installer) flash the patched img.reboot
Magisk will be in your app drawer install Magisk from within the app.
But if you want twrp to stay you may as well just boot twrp install the installer zip reboot to twrp then in install Magisk and reboot.

[RECOVERY] HOW TO INSTALL TWRP & MAGISK OOS 5.1.11, OB1 & earlier

Please follow all directions carefully.
There is an excellent unofficial TWRP by @eng.stk at https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/kernel-t3800965 I have installed it successfully from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=27466#downloads using the following method:
This unofficial TWRP by @eng.stk has working haptic, brightness and MTP
If you already have anotherTWRP installed, you can install the new zip from your TWRP but remember if you had Magisk before, to reboot TWRP and flash Magisk again
NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE STOCK OOS 5.1.5 through latest OOS 9, OR ANY OF THE CUSTOM ROMS
NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER
NOTE: I HAVE NOW PERSONALLY TESTED THAT THIS METHOD WORKS IF YOU HAVE OOS 5.1.6 through latest OOS 9
NOTE: FASTBOOT COMMANDS MUST BE INSTALLED AND TESTED ON YOUR PC
NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE MAGISK 17.x ZIP ON YOUR PHONE
*** YOU MUST FOLLOW ALL STEPS EXACTLY ***
Download twrp-3.2.3-x_blu_spark_v9.86_op6.img from the above site to your pc
Download twrp-3.2.3-x_blu_spark_v9.86_op6.zip from the above site to your phone
Hook phone to pc USB with factory red cable (or other usb-c cable that you have tested)
Reboot phone into bootloader
On your pc, go to the location where you downloaded the twrp image
Type fastboot devices to make sure that you get a response showing your phone and serial number
Type fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-x_blu_spark_v9.86_op6.img
Your phone will boot into twrp YOU WILL PROBABLY BE ASKED TO ENTER YOUR PIN/PATTERN/PASSWORD.
From twrp, install the twrp-3.2.3-x_blu_spark_v9.86_op6.zip that you downloaded on your phone
Disconnect your phone from the pc
Reboot twrp back into recovery. You should now be rebooted to the new twrp.
If you had magisk installed, then flash magisk again or you will bootloop back to twrp

Is there a reason the OP says to specifically flash Magisk version 16.4 (which is a beta version)? I'm running 16.0 (stable) right now and haven't experienced any issues, at least none that I've noticed.

Hey as long as 16.0 is working for you., I see no reason to change. Just make sure you reflash Magisk 16.0 after.
I'm not good at it. I wish someone make youtube video.
FYI, I installed following instructions on TWRP Oneplus6 page. Quick and easy. I'm curious why your instructions require Magisk? It certainly was not required for me. For the record I am not/ was not previously rooted with magisk.
Thanks for the quick guide. Worked like a charm. I am rooted in first attempt. Simple to follow guide. Thanks for putting the guide together.

Magisk Root without TWRP for OnePlus 6 Oxygen OS Android 10 Open Beta 5 | OOS 10.3.1

Latest TWRP doesn't support Android Pie 9.0 for OnePlus 6, or at least for me it didn't.
So, I've made a Magisk patched boot image for Android P that we can flash it in fastboot bootloader.
Note: This is not Oxygen OS ROM, this is just a patched boot img for Oxygen OS to make root work. You need to unlock the bootloader before proceeding with anything.
Note 2: Please disable Magisk modules in the Magisk Manager before flashing the patched boot, because some modules might not support the latest OOS and your device will bootloop. If the modules has been updated by the devs to support the latest OOS you can install the modules after that.
Note 3: Sorry guys, I haven't tested the Android Q Developer Previews. Even though Magisk is supported on Q, please flash it at your own risk.
For older versions download from here: Google Drive
Folder updated with Stock boot images as well.
OOS 10 Open Beta 5 Patched Boot
OOS 10 Open Beta 5 Stock Boot
OOS 10.3.1 Patched Boot
OOS 10.3.1 Stock Boot
Flashing instructions:
Code:
fastboot boot (patched_boot_filename_here).img
or
fastboot flash boot (patched_boot_filename_here).img
Thanks @vlaf
reboot to system (if you make another reboot the root won't stick, so continue with the following steps)
Open Magisk (in settings select beta channel) and click install and install Magisk again with Direct Install (recommended)
reboot again and the root will stick even after the reboot.
The thread I followed for the instructions is here. Thanks for @b1czu

Even easier way to root without TWRP:
1. Install OTA update (Don't reboot).
2. Open Magisk Manager, install Magisk and choose "Install to Inactive Slot (After OTA)" (Now reboot).
3. Now you are rooted without TWRP and without any boot img hassles as well.
wow dude that's useful. I don't need TWRP that bad but I need root to use Titanium backups.

Easy way to install twrp is to fastboot boot twrp. From there, you must turn on adb sideload and push twrp to phone because it will not decrypt storage. After install, reboot to recover and it will ask for password to decrypt. Then just flash magisk to have root with working twrp. Also, you have to use twrp 3.2.2 or it will crash.

Android 10 - Root

Hey guys!
I have a rooted pixel 3. I want to upgrade to Android 10 if they release in the next day or so as reported. I've read they made some progress with magisk...
What is my best bet here?
I would love to keep root, but most importantly I want to keep my data and upgrade to Android 10.
I do really want to keep root too.
Is there a guide?
Thanks!
I had Q beta 6 working with current process. Canary channel still only works by patching your boot.IMG. So with twrp still not working on beta 6. All instructions say image flash not possible upgrade path. So until 10 is stable + twrp stable I don't know either. I will just flash 10 and see also. But I really don't expect data to retain, will try though.

This is a build of blueline TWRP-3.3.1 from the crosshatch tree that is supposedly working from a follow-up post.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pi...pixel-3-xl-t3861623/post79995400#post79995400
So is there no way to root just now?
I upgraded from a rooted Android 9 by downloading the factory image for 10 and removing -w from the bat file. All okay, data retained.
But there is no TWRP that works and I tried to fastboot boot a magisk patched boot image from the factory image zip file and it didn't work.

I was under the impression that fastboot of twrp-3.3.1-0-blueline could be used for certain things in 10 (possibly flashing Magisk uninstaller). Also, be sure you have the canary uninstaller.

No, you have to use a Magisk patched boot with canary magisk. Not even close to the old way. No TWRP. Lot of info on here. You might want to start reading before jumping in.
Manually patching the boot image with the canary build "works" - as in - it shows Magisk installed in Magisk Manager and can grant Superuser to apps --- BUT, you can't write to system, so things like Adaway don't work, also Google Pay doesn't work. I'm not sure what you use root for, but this makes it fairly useless to me for now.

I have lost about 6 hours on flashing 10 OB (all of my mistakes) and finally it works, twrp and root!
But I had to return to 958 patch boot of 10 and then flash 10 again..
The boot file from link above never work for me.
No problems for me with clean flash OB1
i fixed this by going back to pie, then android 10 official (using oxygen updater app), when i flashed in trwp i did oos.zip, then twrp zip then magisk zip. after that, magisk was enabled, and i can reboot to twrp

Android 11 Beta 1 (Jun 2020)

Hi guys,
I hvae flashed Android 11 Beta 1 on my Pixel 4 (not XL, i am posting here as we have more activity) , below what i have tried so far and sucessfully worked
to download
https://developer.android.com/preview/download
* Face unlock did not worked at the begining as it told me to delete the old face data first, so i hade to factory rest the phone from settings at the first launch then it worked perfectly
* the issue with Face unlock caused by Android DP4, is gone
* i have successfully rooted through Magisk Canary update, uploaded Magisk manager canary APK, once you install it make sure to change the update channel to canary and then update to the latest version
* Enable Soli worked perfectly with Magisk with v1.2, uploaded
i have no issues at all with this release, and very stable and fast.
hope you enjoying as i do, happy flashing

I'm stock rooted on Android 10. Can I simply flash the 11 system image without the -w, uninstall current magisk app, then install canary magisk?
Thanks

You need to wipe all your data. I had to flash the image with -w twice because face unlock wasn't working so i had to go to stock recovery and wipe from there (titan m wipe) and flash again

It was the same way last year with the Android 10 Betas. The betas are not considered a supported version by Gpay.
Hey anyone on 11 beta 1 and rooted , on dark mode can you share your Settings app screen because I read online the app icons are now dark instead of white but for me only the Wifi (network and internet) icon is dark but all the others are white. See here

I don't know if anyone is on Google Fi here but I noticed that after installing the 11 beta my Google Fi VPN no longer seems to work. Anyone else have this experience?

Never mind. I got it fixed. I had to delete the old VPN first. Then I reapplied the Google Fi VPN and it worked. I never had to do that before so that's sort of interesting. I hope this helps someone but hopefully no one has to deal with it at all.
my CTS profile passes, even without Magisk...though I installed cleanslate kernel which is AWESOME even without root.
