WiFi high latency and/or frame drop? - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I'm trying to make my Samsung Gear360 2016 camera (https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/gear-360-2016) work with my OP6 128GB/8GB updated to the latest 5.1.9 stock OS and rooted with Magisk.
I'm using a modified application (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-samsung-gear-360-manager-device-t3400383) that makes the Samsung-only 360 camera available to any other relatively powerful Android phone. This camera was one of the motives behind me buying my new OP6.
I've tested the camera with older phones, including Blackberry Priv, Samsung S5 and LG G4 and all of them can display a live view at a useable frame rate.
Unfortunately, there seems to be some issues regarding the WiFi on the OP6 (I don't think the processing power is not sufficient enough for the camera which requires a phone at least as powerful as an Samsung S5).
I've tried connecting through the camera via the access point the camera creates, and also via WiFi direct.
WiFi direct yield a frame rate at the order of 0.5fps, with a burst of 20fps every 20sec or so, and a latency of around 3sec. WiFi AP is completely unusable, as it yields a frame rate of 0.1fps and over 10sec latency (!).
This behaviour gives the impression that the network may be the culprit here. As such, I've flashed other kernels, including blu_spark (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/kernel-t3800965) and flash kernel (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/op6-flash-kernel-1-00-t3801652) both of which allow the modification of the TCP congestion algorithm (via Kernel Adiutor: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grarak.kerneladiutor&hl=ro). When I change from the default Westwood to for example Reno, the live view springs back to life and the frame rate shoots to ~20fps, albeit for a short time (in bursts of ~5sec every ~10sec), while in the rest of time the view is still frozen at 0.1fps.
The same behaviour is present on a stock nonrooted OP5 with the latest updates.
At the moment I have no more ideas to try to make it work. What else can I modify on the phone that may affect the network functionality?
Thank you!

I'll try and remove the encryption and/or install a custom OS.

gps testing, puzzling results

i went on a few drives today to test out my gps, the odd thing is i couldnt get it to misbehave in a significant way. i am using eugenes ginger clone and da_g's update.zip using his own jupiter.xml. i chose his control plane version. i also used some files from jj4 not because i thought they were better but because i was experimenting with the jm9 "FIX" files but wanted to revert back and grabbed the wrong ones from my computer.
my lbs test settings were:
Sesssion Type: tracking
Test Mode: s/w Test
Operation mode: Standalone
Start mode: Hot start
GPS Plus: OFF
Dynamic accuracy: OFF
accuracy: 50
Logging: OFF
supl settings:
server: supl.google.com
port: 7276
secure socket: off
agps mode: control plane
"use wireless networks" in setting>location and security, was not selected
i ran several my tracks trying to recreate the situation described by Da_g where the gps position jumps around and locks are lost when mytracks is in the foreground and lbs in the background but is accurate in the opposite situation. i wanted to see if any "fix" would help this situation, be it a modem file or gps library from other rom but could not create the unstable situation observed by others. this bugged me because i have had serious trouble with google maps acting erratically while all my stationary tests come out fine. the problem is i never used the gps on this rom and did not know if it suffers from this problem in the first place.
it appears this rom does not have that particular problem or the problem is not predictable or can not be caused at will.
i ran a few my tracks with jm9 files. the results were mediocre at best, did it help? nope
did it hurt? maybe, not sure but probably not.
then i ran the test with jj4 files. did it help? maybe but probably not, tests did appear slightly better but were not free of imperfections
did it hurt? nope
on each test i ran one my tracks with mytracks in the forground and lbs in the background then another with lbs in the foreground and my tracks in the background.
observation: phone did not lose gps signal upon starting any app or switching to any app like others reported. tracking results were too close to call. i used similar routes with clear skys and the accuracy was similar when compared on the same road. with lbs up front i could watch the reported accuracy, it mostly jumped from 10 to 30m occasionally hitting 5, and spending more time at 10. average was about 15meter accuracy.
then for s's and g's i ran my tracks behind maps navigation to see if navigation would aggravate the bad behavior. well it didn't. perfect results! this is both reassuring and disapointing. while i can be a little more confident in my gps which in the past has been good except when using google navigation it also make me wonder if maybe the gps is just plain unstable and cant be predicted.
did samsung get it right in the base rom that eugene worked from? did using control plane fix it? did i just get lucky today with different results tomorrow? does touchwiz somehow cause the problems(not likely but who knows)? eugene did a pretty good job of removing touchwiz from samsung sources, not true aosp but it would fool most.
did i stumble on a unique combination thus fixing my gps? im sure the answer is no. it is either in the control plane settings with da_g's mods or in the rom itself.
the jl3 modem seems to get a slightly better signal but is certainly not a "fix"
will you have similar results? dont know, try it. but be warned that the rom is giving me some funny battery reporting and the standard recalibration isnt really working. i also had some random shutdowns when i used juice defender(maybe a bad install on the app) it also is not likely to work with samsung widgets and the video player wont play those weird media hub files.
i do believe that axura was built off the same base rom (im really not sure about this, just a hunch) but i had no luck with gps on that rom, i didnt use axura long enough to try fixing it but others report it as being very good.
i wonder if anyone has looked into available ram as a cause? eugenes rom seems to have a small memory footprint and i often have over 200mb free! could minfree be killing a service when ram runs low? could a setting in other roms be killing a service when exiting some gps apps for the sake of ram/battery usage?
im not a dev and would have no idea where to start on this. i also know that much files that control gps are proprietary and cant be fixed by the community, we can only hope to identify the problem and employ a workaround to prevent problematic situations assuming that the proprietary files are infact more or less functional. will samsung employ a fix? well i think with the number of identified problems with the gps that the galaxy s was released prematurely. samsung likely rushed the release to get a bunch of ooohs and ahhhhs without doing enough testing. it appears that they are incrementally improving gps performance over several builds and it may continue to get better, maybe over several updates. untill then ill use eugenes rom. i also think that if froyo builds did not help you then you may have an antenna issue!
ill attach the my tracks file when i have time.
i would like to thank clshortfuse and especially Da_G for there efforts. Da_G i hope you find a solution that we can all use regardless of rom, or maybe you can cook up a rom yourself, people would definately use it..

Please Help: HP Pro Slate 21 AiO Touch 2 Closing App & Returning to Desktop (Reboot?)

Please Help: HP Pro Slate 21 AiO Touch 2 Closing App & Returning to Desktop (Reboot?)
I've got a unique situation as I use two of these AiO devices as security camera monitors and this has worked fine for months now. I bought two of these and have them in two different rooms and I have IP Cam Viewer set up on each one to display the cameras that I want to view from that room. I also have installed IP Webcam on each one so that I may use the camera built into each one to monitor the area in front of of the monitors. This worked fine for months and I hadn't updated any firmware or anything on them because they worked fine as they were so I had no need to change anything. Within the last couple of weeks I would wake up and both of the monitors would be on the home screen with the apps both closed. I don't know if it's rebooting the entire unit or if just the apps are crashing or what but it's a real PITA since they're mounted up high and require getting a step stool out to reach them each time. Since I started having issues I upgraded the device's firmware since there was an update available thinking it might fix my issue but it did not. I thought maybe a notification was causing the issue (even none of my other Android devices close out the apps when I have a notification) so I disabled the notifications for some apps that default to have them enabled since I'm not using them but it's still happening.
I dunno what to think here.
Anyone have any suggestions to fix this?
Bumping this up & hoping to get some help. The problem still persists and I haven't been able to get any closer to a solution. I've noticed a couple of times now that I will get an error that may or may not be related. The error says:
"unfortunately, com.wolo.service has stopped"
Now, I don't know if this is the causation of the issue because there has been times that the screen going black (from basically a security monitor) has caught my eye and when it comes back on to the home screen (about a second or so) there is no error message. My guess is that this is the behavior most of the time. I just thought that it might be related or help to solve the problem.
To recap, HP Pro Slate 21 running whatever version of Android came on it and I quite literally have two apps installed and ONLY two apps installed: IP Cam Viewer & IP Webcam which I run exclusively 24/7 and nothing more. It worked fine for months where IP Webcam would allow me to access the webcam on the monitors as an extra security camera and then use the display to display 9 of the security cameras as a monitor. Then, without any notice or any changes from me (I wasn't even updating any apps or anything since I had no issues) the monitor crashes several times a day. This requires me to launch IP Webcam again to allow access to the camera and then launch IP Cam Viewer to display the security cameras as a monitor. This works fine for about 1/4 or so of the day/night but then, inevitably, it will occur again.
This is SO annoying from a device that should just work w/o any input.

360 cam problems

I received my 360 cam yesterday and updated/installed the software for it but I still can't get it to work. The app opens fine and will connect to the camera but will either say it is unavailable or will display the image from the camera before closing and going to the home screen and saying it's unavailable. It also won't recognise the micro as card I put in that works perfectly with every other device I have used it in.

Had these same problems with mine. Oddly enough fixed it completely when I uninstalled my VPN adblocking app... disabled the adblocking didn't work, but uninstalling did. Very strange.
This camera still sucks though as far as I can tell. Apparently it's not compatible with Google Cardboard... like.. seriously? I haven't found any way to view 360 degree videos in a side-by-side manner to support Cardboard. Your options are apparently just moving the phone around in a non-VR fashion, or buy LG's own headset....?

Phone connects to device (Bluetooth for initial connection, then WiFi direct). Makes sense that VPNs would cause issues
Anyways, the workflow is kinda weird... if you mount the camera/SD card and download the raw video, the Raw video consists of two circles with no optical corrections(black borders around the two circles)
See photo under #1 for an example: http://mediashift.org/2016/05/6-things-i-learned-about-shooting-360-videos/
If you download the video through the app/WiFi correction(very slowly, 1MB/s), you get a optically corrected/merged video (no black bars)
First screenshot in link below
https://havecamerawilltravel.com/photographer/360-video-ricoh-theta-facebook
Video #2 plays properly with the lg app(and other cardboard apps). Video #1 doesn't...
So this means I need to download videos from device very slowly (to get the optically corrected video) instead of dumping the raw video via microsd/cable, to watch it on my phone, or postprocess on my computer
Thanks for the replys. I am using ad blocking so I play around with it in the morning.
The more I understand about LGs "friends" implementation the more I feel like they have set themselves up for a failure.
It seems like using Bluetooth or even a direct usb connection would have been a much better way to go instead of Wi-Fi for the 360 cam. Not being a programmer though I'm not sure if it would even be feasible to use a connection other than Wi-Fi.

Yeah mine disconnects constantly over Wi-Fi. Seems to be no range on it, so you're force to be in every scene. Not being a very good friend.
is the LG 360 cam compatible with the Galaxy Note 3? I have heard of incompatibility issues with other phones making me hesitant to get one

It should we compatible with any Android Phone running Lollipop or higher (5.0), but I haven't tested it specifically with the Note 3.
LG 360 Camera Connection Problem Fixed
I had the same problem, not being able to connect to my 360 camera.
Here's the solution.
Turn the camera on, do not open the camera manager.
go to wifi on your phone.
look for LG camera wifi.....
if it is already familiar with it, press forget network.
press on the network name again and try to connect, it will prompt you for a password.
the password should be 00 followed by the last 6 digits of the serial no of the CAM
it should connect
open the camera manager again and everything should be fine
I was about to give up before seeine this advice. Going to try it shortly. Hope it solves the problem.
Thank you.
I wonder whether you know about this problem.
LG 360 Cam suddenly shut down after I switched on the power button every time.. sigh... Kindly help as it is only about 6 months old...
My LG 360 wi-fi does not even become visible. I can see its bluetooth but it won't pair. The LG 360 Cam Manager app cannot connect to the camera either.
I'm running the latest firmware and have the latest version of LG Bridge. I've also reset the 360 cam a number of times but not luck. It's basically a paperweight at the moment. Any ideas?
Try to check the w-lan visibility of your 360 cam with your router or an other smartphone.
Maybe the problem happens only to your phone.

Thanks. For whatever reason I can see the LG's wifi signal on my phone today. My phone can connect to the wifi but when I open up the app it is unable to connect to the 360 and eventually disconnects from the wifi signal.
Progress from yesterday but still a mystery why it no longer connects.
Is it me having user error or stupidity of lg... When connected to the camera via WiFi direct I have no data connection. ( You can't use wifi and mobile data at the same time) so how in the hell do I check for updated software?????????

It is because of LG. I understand why they did it that way and I'm not sure if there is another way they could have done it without a tethered connection. You use the "LG Friends" manager app to do the updates.
Thanks! The other thing that would have made this thing awesome is a physical switch or button to change between 180 & 360

Like I said look at the the LG user manual.
You short press the button on the side to change modes.
http://www.lg.com/uk/support/guides/mobile/g5/360-cam
I only took about 15 seconds to search Google and find this.
No need to be rude... I've read the manual and mine does not work that way..

Android 12 DP1 anyone?

Anyone flash it?
What's working and what's not list can go here as well as discussion.

Would be nice to know if Magisk Canary is working with the Developer Preview (on Pixel 5).
working pretty well as a DP so far. i dont believe canary is working yet, as it throws a boot error when you flash a patched image, yet you can fastboot boot a patched image.

Curious about 5G and eSim. Have you tested either?
I've got a nice long 3 day weekend, starting now. So I'm going to give this a go and run it through its paces to test 5G, Wifi speeds, Bluetooth connectivity with watch/headphones/car, smart home control, notifications, various apps I frequently use etc.
Will report back soon.

No 5g in my area, and my Verizon anyways doesn't use esim.
Initial thoughts...
No issues discovered, yet.
- Wifi speeds are on par with the February Android 11 build (see screenshot)
- T-Mobile 5G speeds (Boulder, CO) are also on par with what I was previously seeing (see screenshot)
- No issues sending/receiving texts/phone calls/Emails/Slack messages
- Bluetooth connection and functionality with my Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Watch Active2 are solid
- Google Smart Home device controls are working (HUE lights, Nest cameras, Google Home Hubs, Nest thermostat etc.)
- Camera quality for photos & videos don't appear degraded
- No noticeable stuttering or hiccups (yet)
Still need to test:
- Android Auto
- Battery life
- Longer term snappiness/smoothness (this tends to degrade over 1-3 days on previous developer previews I've tested)
Side notes:
- I was able to enable the developer flag for the new One-Handed Settings UI but I'm still trying to track down the flag to enable the new larger brightness slider layout.
- Possibly a placebo but notifications tones are much louder/crisper than they were on Android 11 (even at the same volume slider setting). This was a persistent annoyance I had with Android 11 that I attributed to the new speaker setup of the Pixel 5 vs my previous Pixel 4.
Do you did new install or updated ?
@sn0warmy Thanks, great review. Boulder 5g sucks. Denver by Lodo has the high speed one and some other areas nearby. I'm really wondering if we will get eSim + physical sim and 5G. As of now, even though there is a commit that has been merged, we only get 4G if we use both sims. It's obviously not a hardware limitation and I'm not sure why it hasn't been pulled into a monthly other than they are waiting for 12 to enable it.

38mbps is plenty fast for me when I'm away from the house. Though, I will say that 5G signal in this area is definitely hit or miss. I often find my signal falling back to LTE when I'm out and about.
I'm sure it will improve, over time.

Finally managed to flash magisk to pixel5....
However I am only able to boot the patched image (fastboot boot boot.img), if I tried to flash the image(fastboot flash boot boot.img) it won't boot saying "failed to load/verify boot images" which means I lose magisk every time I reboot.
I am fine with that although it's not perfect.
BTW exposed doesn't seem to work for now and the safetynet-fix module is bricking my device.
I ran into my first bug. If I try to change the notification tone in any app other than 'Phone', notification settings force closes. So I'm stuck with all the default notification tones for everything except the system wide default notification tone and ringtone.

Yeah 38 is very decent. Have you tried it with 4G for comparison? I have dual sim so I only get 4G unless I temporarily disable a sim. When I test the 4G is faster. I agree, it will improve once they start rolling out mmWave.
All functions of Android Auto confirmed working.
flashed and running for me.. 5G working on Verion. I updated (no clean wipe).
Battery may be a tad worse but that's because I'm used to being rooted and optimized.
Havent come across any hard crashes and reboots. I'm making an install video.. then later one on features, sharing experience (after using it for a while as my daily)
Tried dp1 earlier today. Found 1 bug I can't stand which is media playback won't hear in my Pixel Buds 2, I guess it'll be the same with other bluetooth earbuds?
Tried rebooting the phone to see if it resolves it, no. Tried also forget the Buds and redo pairing still the same. I can hear notifications fine but media playback, no. Just silence.
So flashed back to Feb 2021 public build.

AT&T LG V10 Upgrade Options

This phone has become a problem because one after another, things have stopped working on it. It's currently at the latest android release from AT&T 6.0, with the stock firmware. I did a factory reset this morning just to verify that it wasn't some of the things I have disabled, and it didn't change the way it worked (the auto brightness doesn't work at all anymore), and I'm having more and more problems with apps like the Geeni camera app that just don't work any more.
My question is, is there any upgrade path to a newer (10 or 11) version of android that might help me out? I'm basically ready to replace the device, but I've put a display on it recently and it's in otherwise good shape.
I'd like to know as well.
My wife's phone has been having issues with apps, camera lag, and browser slowing down, over heating etc. Android 6.0 maybe too old to run some apps, and probably more load on web browsing is causing the issues, but the specs are still on par, imho, with other phones that came years later in the game - 4G of ram and a great camera, good device storage for app loads. Hard to let go.
