SideSqueeze on OnePlus 6 - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Anyone managed to get the SideSqueeze app working on the OnePlus 6?

I don't think it's gonna happen because it lacks hardware components on the sides of the phone, how do you want the phone to detect squezes if it doesn't have sensors??

OnePlus 6 does not physically have flex sensors mounted to its sides to support this function!

OnePlus 6 does not have a barometer sensor which sidesqueeze uses to measure the pressure difference after a squeeze so, unfortunately, it would not work

[Q] ipad 2 proximity sensor like function

Hey I was just wondering if it is possible to gain the same function as the iPad 2 has with its proximity sensor with our gtablets since we have a light sensor?
I'm not sure if it has already been asked before or if the devs are working on something similar but to me it would just make our already amazing tablet even greater
I'm not 100% sure, but I think a proximity sensor requires both a transmitter and a receiver. I assume IR.
I think iphone & ipad use light sensor to make a trick on the proximity sensor, if the light get completly darken it will assum that the device is close to a hard surface, ie: the face in the case of the iphone, so i assume that it will be posible to do so with a little software trick ... btw, anyone know which ROM take the advantage of this light sensor setting in use? don't see it on Vegan ..

Advice on Pixel 2 or Huawei P20

Hello,
In my country I can get the Pixel2 and Huawei P20 at around the same price, P20 being a bit cheaper, depending on the deals.
Now I am aware that Pixel 2 is an older device but it has it's pros.
What I like and dislike about p20:
+ lcd screen without Pulse With Modulation
+ modern design
+ dual cameras
+ fingerprint scanner on the front, making easier to unlock when on my desk
+ fingerprint scanner gestures which allows disabling the nav bar
+ software with customization
- notch, but from what I've read it can be disabled easily
- no stereo
- back glass which can be broken and is slippery
- updates my come slow
What I like and dislike about Pixel2
+ another almost 2 years of updates
+ metal back
+ stereo speakers
- amoled with PWM
- design
Usually reviews tend to be for the P20 Pro, especially long term ones so the P20 is a bit shadowed by it. I do not root or use custom roms. I do like to read on the phone, that is why no PWM comes as an advantage. I also need it to take great pictures without too much config. So if anyone owned P20, can share the downsides compared with Pixel 2? How are the cameras in comparison ? Are there any downsides of Pixel 2 in terms of hardware issues?
Thank you for your time.
Pixel 2, no contest. P20 may be a better device on paper, but it can't stand a chance next to the Pixel 2. My colleague has one, and we've compared the cameras, the Pixel 2 beats P20 in every shot (except maybe zoom on some occasions).
Software wise, ugh. EMUI on the P20 is just garbage and feels like Android KitKat and iOS 7 had a baby. Just no.
So from me, get yourself a Pixel 2 and enjoy.
I love my Pixel 2. I only wish it got some better battery life. It's actually the best size for me. I don't mind the bezel because of the dual stereo speakers.
Thank you very much for your answers.
I use the Pixel 2, owned the p20 for a few months.
It is a tough call, but i would go for the pixel again no question about it. But it depends on what you value more.
The camera on the pixel us much more reliable always good shots . software experience much better. I use gestures on the Pixel ( Fluid NG app).
For me the P20 was better on battery and screen size.the fingerprint gestures are great as well. The speakers better on the pixel of course.
@icstrim1 you mention that the camera on pixel is more reliable, does this mean that on P20 you got bad pictures some times? Or does the P20 require more adjustments before taking a picture? Also the software isn't more customizable that the one on pixel?

On the auto mode with Huawei i got bad pictures sometimes, oversharpens a lot especially in rock walls or buildings. Also folliage backround detail looks more realistic on the Pixel.
I couldn't get rid of the oversharpening on the Huawei, there seem to be no real cure for auto mode.
If you take photos of children or landscape, the Pixel is a better choice in my view.
I prefer the clean Android, much smoother , almost addictive. But emui is not too bad.
Thank you o much @icstrim1, very helpful information.
One last question, the P20 has a screen without Pulse With Modulation, while the Pixel's amoled has around 245Hz PWM. Do you notice any eye strain/tiredness or other issues on the pixel's screen vs P20?
Thank you again for your time
You are welcome.
I actually like the oled more, no issues with eye strain.
Let me know if you have other questions.

Fingerprint is same??

Is there any actual upgrade on the in display fingerprint sensor?
Should be Gen 2, so definitely faster and more accurate than the 6T :good:

Should be faster being Gen 2.
Should be disappointing due to still being an optical scanner.

6T has been pretty good for me so if it's even a small improvement on that I'll be happy

Unfortunately ultrasonic fingerprint scanner are much more expensive than optical even Huawei and P30 Pro got with optical and not ultrasonic.
I've heard that in Galaxy S10/10 Plus it's the second most expensive component after the OLED panel.
So in order to not increase much more the price of 7 oneplus deside use optical again but would be better implementation than 6T both accuracy and speed unlocking.
I would expect to be on par with P30 Pro and Oppo Reno performance.
On the other hand since BBK group having invest more than a year on optical technology evolving each generation every few months (We are now on 6th generation like on Oppo Reno has) I really doubt will ever use ultrasonic sensor near time soon unless become much more affordable to oneplus(oneplus 8 maybe)
But don't forget Vivo and Oppo are working on next generation that will work all across the screen without needed light up sensor)
That would be the ultimate solution not needed specific and very small erea like today both ultrasonic and optical using.

As per the rumor Oneplus 7 will sticks with the optical sensor like an Oneplus 6t. Ultrasonic is quite expensive, Maybe in the next series of Oneplus they can use USFPS.
This time the response time for the fingerprint will be faster than the One Plus 6t.

So, In upcoming years we can expect an Ultrasonic sensor on the Oneplus or an Optical which is very faster compare to this 2ndGen.
The FP sensor has 3 lenses and 3x optical zoom.

Location of NFC on OnePlus 7

NFC (antenna) on OnePlus 7 seems to be located near/around rear camera(s). This makes it really convenient for NFC payments. Apple iPhones or Google Pixels also have NFC at the top of the phone. However even latest Samsung S10's have it located in the middle. I switched to OnePlus 7 from Samsung S7 and NFC also feels much stronger - payment terminals pick up signal from greater distance (even when using a case).

its actually in the middle of the cameras
I tried to pay on an Android Pay terminal and it could not pick up the NFC sensor. Good to know I have to aim higher.

Question Which Gimbal for Pixel 7 Pro?

Hello All,
I have been a pixel phone user for a few years now and have been using it quite a bit for armature photography. I am planning to start vlogs bit I don't want to invest heavily into any vlogging equipment as I am not sure if I will continue doing it long term. So I was planning to try my hand at vlogging using my Pixel 7 Pro and was looking to get a good working Gimbal that supports all features like switching between front and rear cameras etc., I have looked at all the major brands and it seemed like none of then fully support Pixel 7 Pro.
Do you have any recommendations for a gimbal that natively works the best for Pixel 7 Pro? If not, what is the next best gimbal option among the ones that partially support Pixel 7 Pro?
Thank you for your time.
I use the The DJI OM 4 with a magsafe case and a magsafe attachment with my 7Pro.
The issue with most clamps for gimbles and stands is the button locations on the 7, they are right in the middle where clamps been to be for stabilization.
This solution works perfectly for me

Thank you. But can I use features such as change front to rear camera, zoom while taking video, use various camera modes etc with Om 4?

Yes, there's both a trigger that has assignable functions and a thumb button on the handle that has assignable functions. It doesn't use the stock camera app, it uses its own camera in the app
