J3 2017 J330FN Bad Roms - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) Questions & Answers

What's up with the stock roms for this device? I tried a multiple of them from different websites whenever i download the rom and try to open it i get a bad file error with different file managers. Anyone have a working stock rom for the SM-J330FN in here?

Doesn't make sense what you're doing.
Why try and open with a file manager?

You don't open anything. The firmware is in tar format, you load that straight into odin.
If it's in zip form extract it first.

Wouldn't that be what the Odin files are in the "get back to stock" thread?

I dont want ODIN files. I need the files that you can readily modify in windows. i need to go through and find some files and put them in a rom.

Pretty certain Odin files are zip files. I can't check into it at work but I would guess you can just use 7zip and extract them. Otherwise, just flash your phone back to stock and pull whatever you need from there.

There is no such thing. That's why you have to use Odin to go back to stock. And I know the file extensions of Odin, however those files contain other folders/files. Which is why I said use 7zip to see them.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
You know another thing you could try is the pick n pack rom file. It is stock deodexed and a flashable .zip file. The odin files can be opened on a PC you just have to use the programs mentions. But as far as a complete stock flashable. zip file. You aren't going to find it cause we just don't have it. Best bet would be to download the mentioned programs and decompress the ODIN file.
Another thing I just remembered is the program winrar recognizes the .tar ODIN files as winrar archives. You may be able to decompress and extract the files you need with that program. But if your gong to have to download anyting I would just do the above mentioned programs as they have been proven to work.
Tap-a-Talked.
As stated above you can get those from pick and pack it is the stock rom essentially and includes all of the .apk's and files in a .zip (you'll need apktool to decompile the .apk's in windows), or you could flash stock in odin and then pull them with ADB (QTADB works well for that).
You won't be able to work with the .bin files located inside the .tar (in windows), but you can get into the .tar with winrar or 7zip. You need linux to get into the .bin files

[Q] How to extract build.prop from system.img

I have the stock rom for the Galaxy S6 Cricket variant... I am having trouble in getting the build.prop from the system.img. I have tired many methods from other threads but none seem to work. Any suggestions or working ways to extract the build.prop from the system.img or any way to open up the .img file.
I am doing this to post the rom in the ROM WIP section for the root.

Try the tools in this thread . I used them last week to extract a build prop.
Just load up the system.IMG and drag the file from the system folder to your desktop.

I got your PM. Sorry for the late reply. I'm posting here in case someone else needs the info.
Download Ext2explore.
Extract to your PC.
Run as administrator.
In app: go to file - open image - (find your system image) and open
It will display your image in tree and folder view
Use either one (depending on your preference) (but your build.prop will be in the first view as its in the root of the system).
Right click the file/s you want to extract
Select save
Save your file.......profit
Hope this helps

Problem flashing s6 stock image

Hi guys
I wonder could anyone help me. I'm trying to flash a stock ROM on my s6 with ODIN. It goes so far and then fails on hidden.img I've researched it and the solution found here seems to have worked for most people. My problem is i cant get Odin to recognise the hidden.img.tar file - it just cant see it. I've tried all sorts of ways and i rename it as described and odin just wont recognise it in the right format. Please can someone help me? Just for the record what i do is:
The main image file i open with winrar. I get 8 files. i select the hidden.img file and extract and rename it as per the article. Odin i then select ap and point it at the location and it just wont find it. Odin 3.10.7 and windows 7 and windows 10

Eh, I've downloaded it but found this file was corrupt
You can't unzip it, you have to flash it by copying it on the device

The file is corrupt. You should be able to open it (archive viewer) and see the files. I even attempted to repair the file using terminal commands, it seems that half the files are missing/damaged.
You can also get it directly from vivo: http://sysupwrdl.vivo.com.cn/upgrad...es/PD1805_A_1.15.7-update-full_1530708851.zip

Have you tried finding the full stock firmware for the device also? If you have the stock firmware file, you might find the file you are looking for in the firmware file.

Extract the firmware to access the different parts of the firmware, you can manually search through every folder until you find it or you can use the Windows file explorer's search feature to search the extracted files.
It will take some time but if go through it piece by piece, you'll find it.
There is not always a simple, easy way to do things. Sometimes you have to be willing to put in the time and the work to make things happen. Don't be afraid to do some work to figure it out.
