My D820 has never picked up anything above 2G - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.
In november of 2016 my aunt bought this Nexus 5 (D820) from Amazon in USA and brought it here, it was brand new and factory unlocked. When I first got it I didn't flash anything on it for a few months, which means I used the factory 4.4 KitKat, and I noticed that it never picked up anything above 2G/EDGE (the small E icon). Right now I'm running Nougat and I've tested it with 3 different simcards throughout these two years and it simply never goes over 2G, I have never seen this phone with an H or H+ or LTE icon. It's either 2G or it simply drops signal.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Using the stock system
Flashing ALL the radios I found, through adb and through flashable zips
Tearing it apart to see the two antenna cables on both sides, they're there and well seated
Every single combination of Cellular Networks > 2g/3g/LTE, Roaming, no result.
I've tried different APNs, still no result
All 3 SIM cards worked with 3g right away on my previous phone, an S2
I honestly have no idea what to try next. Anybody could help?

Maybe, it's because your networks are using frequencies, which are not supported by the North America (D820) model.
See https://www.androidcentral.com/nexus-5-models-whats-different-between-two

D820 is for North America, D821 is for other countries.

The only thing that shouldn't work outside NA is 4G, my actual mobile carrier is Movistar, and it should work right away so..

[Q] Nexus 5 on Verizon (mainly about network frequencies)

Ok so, Verizon uses CDMA, and the only CDMA frequencies that would work are 2G, which is no bueno, so in that sense, I wouldn't really be able to use it on Verizon, BUT, the Nexus 5's LTE bands on the other hand are, some of them. Verizon's LTE uses the 700 and 1700 frequencies, which are both included in the Nexus 5.
So here's what I want to know, would I be able to use the Nexus 5 on Verizon, even if it'll only work in areas with LTE?
i searched google around for the similar problem and mostly they saying it wont be compatible and some sorts with their frequency and bands
Nexus 5 didn't compatible with Verizon at all.

The nexus 5 will register on the LTE network where certain markets have this band available for me Verizon does not (Hawaii). Only a certain handful of markets have this band. However Verizon won't allow the device to use the LTE network it will see it and recognize it but Verizon systems deny it.
Google and Verizon have a crippled relationship seeing the galaxy nexus slow updates and Verizon wanting to put bloatware on it and the nexus 7 LTE being denied when it first launched. I think Google wants no part in verizon.

[Q]Mobile network problem during searching carrier.

Hello i didn't find anywhere similar problem. I have N5, rooted and with stock rom & kernel, i have a problem with mobile network. In my country there is a network "Play" and it is using own transmitters or from other networks and it is working as roaming network. When i want to find other compatible carriers from menu (manual mode) searching took so much time, more than few minutes. There is a sollution for this? Or fix?
Same situation when i switch from 2G to LTE mode - same results.
Best regards g1b50n
I don't think you can just switch carriers from the network menu. You need their sim card to use them. "Roaming" is usually just automatic, if you have it enabled in setting.
You don't click on different carriers to roam. At least I've never heard of that. To use a carrier, you need their sim and APN settings.
Call your carrier and ask about it. They should know exactly how it should work.
In my country carrier "Play" allow to use other networks. I mean a problem when i want to find other carriers

Then took so much time to find other networks.
I can connect with all of them (only orange not working cause was for testing)
Just want to know why looking for other networks take so much time.
Sorry, never heard of it....so can't guess why.
It probably falls under the" it is what it is" category.

Where is LTE Band 20?

That is the W8 model they reviewed. (Canada only model)
Would that have something to do with it? I don't keep up on all the bands/frequencies that all the carriers all over use.
I really was hoping the S6 would move away from all these region specific models since they are managing the radios on their soc with Broadcom now.
You almost have to buy an iPhone if you travel internationally a lot. I don't know of any other phone that has everything covered by the radio.

The Sony Z3 sold in Taiwan has most world bands on it of LTE.
Samsung and HTC suck at this. They should at least release an international model on their own website for those who do not mind forking out full price to get an unlocked model with most LTE Bands for those travel often.
Still just GSM though right?
I thought the iPhone covered much more than that. Maybe I'm wrong..

No service - Emergency Calls only - Nexus 5 D821 in France

Hi,
Hi
A friend of mine have lost signal on his nexus 5 since Thursday 6 October 2016.
I have noticed the phone took a security update of the 05 October.
The sim is recognized. I tried with my own sim too.
The apn settings is good according to the provider website.
The imei is present.
When i search network operator, he take one minute at least and find my operator but afet that he i pick him i have the message "can't connect to this network riht now. Try again later"
I tried to flash a precedent stock version but no signal.
I tried to flash the modem too (downgrade) and no change
My last option is i have noticed that when i tap *#*#4636#*#* on the phone, i can select radio band and after that i see "usa band" but i'm in france.
In France we use GSM 900 and also LTE (4G)
I tried to flash the cyanogen last version and i see a change but still no service, no signal.
The change is i can see usa band + japan band now but no Europe band (if that exist).
It's look like those settings are decided by the rom or by the kernel (but not the modem firmware)
If someone in France or Europe can tell me if he has Europe band in select radio band, that would help me to understand better

Try this method:

If it fails, also try this one:

Thanks.
I just tried both method.
Though now i have access to euro band, the phone still stay in no service... very weird.
I suppose it's an hardware trouble finally.
Thanks anyway, i give up ^^

How to change band radio

Hi everyone,
my used xperia xz have signal/network issue: when 4G is on and i receive a call the signal is so low that i have to move around or turn off lte to have a better experience; data signal is so low and laggy, sometime havent signal indoor etc... I bought a used device, originally come with UK firmware and this specs:
Android 8.0
Phone Software Version: 1302-9157_41.3.A.2.171
Global-LTE3A
Generic-41.3.a.2.171
S1 Boot version: 1299-4832 S1_BOOT_MSM8996_LA2.0_O_204
BASEBAND: 8996-8996.gwn.prodQ-00070-40
Customization version: 1305-7307R8E
After a guide of Kuarinfou to flash a firmware i flashed an italian firmware (cause i live in italy and i thinked to could solve it flashing an italian fw) but the signal/network issues are still there. I checked the service menu and I notice that:
- in the network preference's list there isnt the option "LTE/UMTS/GSM" but only LTE/UMTS or LTE/CDMA or LTE only or CDMA only and others combinations
- in the "select band radio" (the first option after clicking the three dots at the top) there are only 3 option: Automatic - America - Japan. NOT Europe!!!!
So I suppose this could be the reason of the issue. I suppose there is a network "limitation" about frequencies.
My questions are:
1) Could be that the reason of the issue?
2) Is there a way to change the band radio?
3) Is there a way to set on europe band and disable US or other bands?
I have read the post about how to modify lte carrier aggregation, could be the solution?
I will attach a screenshot for more info.
Hope in your experience and kindness.
Anyway, thanks you for the attention
