calendar widgets still not working on mate 9 - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

guys has anyone experienced same issue? i tried several widgets and they all freeze at some point in mate 9 emui 8, only stock widget works without any issues. any suggestions?

If you can get an unlock code, the solution to this problem is to dump EMUI and use OpenKirin:
https://openkirin.net/download/
I recommend Carbon but any of the three ROMs won't kill your widgets.

thanks but will prefer a solution without messing with roms if any

It'll take tons of time and even more nerves.
My advice is:
- go to Battery - Launch - find all your widget apps and set them to MANUAL optimizations, select all three options available.
- then, go to Apps - Configure - Special Access - Ignore battery optimizations and set all your widget apps to ALLOW.
Reboot for good measure and try again.

tried that didn't work even switching to nova launcher still same issue

as i have read yesterday in a German android forum, the Business Calendar 2 app widget refresh work well on Huawei/OREO!

Apps that lose their settings after reboot

I have the Sprint Hero, and this is my ROM history throughout the month I've used it...
Stock --> Fresh 1.0 --> Fresh 1.1 --> Full Wipe --> RUU Stock 1.56 --> Gumbo 1.5b --> +Gumbo Kernel beta
I have partitioned the SD card with each ROM to FAT32+swap+ext3. Apps2SD appears to be functioning fine.
I've noticed that I have a couple apps that lose their settings after every single reboot. This hasn't changed across any of the configurations I've been through, except for on stock. It behaved the same on both Fresh ROMS and still does this on Gumbo.
The 2 apps in particular that annoy me the most with this issue are Weather Widget 3.5 (I paid for the official app), and GTalk Quick Status (I paid for the official app). I'm more interested in these since I keep them both on my home screen. They function perfectly after they are setup, and are very useful apps.
But sure enough, every time I reboot the phone, they have to be re-configured (or widget removed/replaced) and enter the settings again for them to work.
The apps creators and other customers have provided no other feedback of anyone else seeing this issue, and I'm believing that it is something on my end.
Would anyone have any idea why some apps do not retain their settings after reboot? And any advice on what I could do to fix this issue?
Weather Widget is an incompatibility with Sense. If you stop using Sense and use the vanilla home screen, it remembers its settings. Very annoying, but it's the developer's fault.

Weather Forecast v2 and MoreIcons are two widgets I know of that have started to add an extra configuration to their setup screens to workaround the Sprint Hero widget bug.
With the fix in place though, you can only have one instance of the widget running at any given time. Makes the MoreIcons widget somewhat useless, but at least some devs are acknowledging that the bug exists and are doing what they can to make it easier for the end user.
The problem does seem to be with the Sense UI only though because I'm using the SweeterHome UI now and don't have any issues.

Nexus 5 - widgets sync issues

Hi all,
I have had my Nexus 5 phone for a few weeks now and I love it.
Before that I owned a Galaxy S2, running on CM10.2 with Dorimanx Kernel with Nova Launcher.
I really love the N5, it really is a beast and answers most of my expectations.
However, I have recently been confronted to a problem : my homescreen widgets are not syncing/updating anymore...
Not much of them though :
- Beautiful Weather 4 x 2
- Stock Agenda 2 x 3 redimensioned at 4 x 3
- Today 4 x 2 redimensioned at 4 x 3
Before that I also tried on my N5 : Dashclock + Widget Locker and some extensions for Whatsapp, Google Music, Hangouts, Gmail, etc...
Lockscreen widgets worked fine and were correctly synced and updated.
I have noticed that my homescreen widgets are only updated once : when I set them up or when I turn on my device. After a few seconds they stop updating. Even the update button in some widgets does not work.
This is really annoying as I really like my N5 and this is really bothering me.
I have searched through all the web and through the forum and I have not found anything useful. I have tried uninstalling all these apps and reinstall them. I have tried installing them one at a time and it does not work.
I have seen your N5 homescreens in the forum and it makes me jealous as they are really looking good and rely on synced widgets.
Has anyone got a clue ?
Thank you all very much.
Marc
Hi all,
Just a quick update : I have installed Nova Launcher 2.3 Beta and all my widgets seem to be working fine in Nova Environment. Well synced and updated.
Has anyone kept the default Nexus 5 launcher (Google Experience) and observed the widgets are not syncing ?
I have tried to reset the Launcher by going into the app details and stopping the app and resetting the cache and data. It still does not work.
The weird thing is that I seem to be the only one experiencing this issue as I really have not found the problem stated elsewhere. Or maybe for other devices and particular widgets but I have tried all the solutions and none worked.
Are you running Google Experience on your N5 and are you having these issues ?
I do like Google Experience feel and is there another way to reset it ?
Do you have any clues on how to debug this ?
Otherwise, do you know where I can post this problem and find help ? Is there any Google support for this Launcher ?
Thank you all so much for your help !!

Same issue here...
EDIT
After fighting that problem for 2 days without any luck (tried restarts, reinstalled beautiful widgts, widgetoid etc.) the problem is gone now after posting yesterday into this thread.
Nice.
The only thing that changed since then is that i deinstalled tapatalk - but I can hardly reproduce the problem or solution...
Really a small chance but maybe the OP has tapatalk installed too?
Hi licht,
Thanks for your feedback though you are right, I don't know how I can reproduce your solution.
And by the way, after a successful day on Nova the problem has appeared on Nova now !!
So I guess this isn't launcher related...
There is a pb with Kit Kat somewhere...
How could I debug this ? What is the process responsible for updating home screen widgets ?
Thanks to the community !
OK I've had this problem too.. Very occasionally.. But it's happened in holo launcher..
A restart fixes it..
And I do have tapatalk installed too though am not sure it's related

Hi letmedanz,
Thanks for sharing.
I have done the restart, of the widgets, of the launcher and of the phone...
I just don't get why it works and then just stops working...
I wish I could find the process responsible for the update and my monitor it.
Thanks anyway.
Having the same issue, i guess it's only a few of us. Have you tried reflashing stock img? i might give that a go.
Actually, on Nova it runs just fine. I think I'll just keep Nova. I'm too lazy to reflash...

Hmmmm don't care for nova, unnecessary memory usage. I thought you said earlier it wasn't a launcher issue?
Will try to solve it tomorrow, perhaps it is as simple as wiping cache? Will keep you guys' updated.
You are right to point that out because I thought it was also not t refreshing on Nova. But it actually did, and for some time now it runs fine.
Thanks for trying it. I'll be checking your results in here.
The only modification i have done is installed AdAway other than that i am stock. Oh i also have gravity screen off installed.
I found out I had this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=spinninghead.talkingstopwatchlite running in the background still doing a timer, so many hours! =]
Exited it and now my widgets refresh. Can anyone explain how this app would get in the way of the widgets updating?? =\
problem solved
My nexus 5 block sync all widgets:
The solution is, deinstall phone weaver!
Sören
What is Phone Weaver ? Is it a specific program ? Because I don't have it.
I thought it was the stopwatch app i had running causing widget freezes, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Widgets are still refusing to refresh. Will flash 4.4.2 (clean install) hopefully that helps.
Issue is well documented here http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=28216
See if this works for you guys https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/nexus/uu27aDrcwFs/9L9JRo6kXqkJ
Vladimir Vakhromeev
I've found solution which works for me. I hope it could help others as well.
all that I did is ran in CMD:
adb shell am start -n com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardTestActivity
after this nexus asked for locale and name again. Then I've put back my widgets.
I had no problems about a week.
Please, notice that it could be done at your own risk!
I tried the above and it seems to be working so far. Post your results =]
So i have found a temporary fix without needing to reboot.
I used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.systempanel.r1 to kill all processes and tasks, the widgets start to work! The bug will occur again most likely.
Now when the bug does occur again i just have to go kill the process/task 1 by 1 to figure out which one resets the widgets, probably google search (launcher)
This must confirm there is conflict with ram! any insight?!
Anyone figured out a solution that does not involve booting, restarting the phone or manually running an app? that is no permanent fix. and this is extremely disappointing.

[Q] Impact of Themes and Google Now

Hello everybody!
I'm interested in buying the Mate 8 but still have a few question I weren't able to find answers to.
I currently own a Nexus 5 and like the clean look of stock Android.
First questions are in regards to themes.
1. Do they still apply when you change the launcher or this somehow linked to the EMUI stock launcher?
2. Can you change the dropdown menu (notifications and quick settings) with these themes, too, in order to make it more like stock Android? Screenshots of the dropdown menu are rarely given.
3. How easy is it to create themes by oneself?
All in all I'd like to have a clean stock look as especially these bubbles around the icons are a pain to my eyes.
I would prefer to NOT have to flash a custom ROM.
The second part of my questions is in regard to Google Now.
1. Do you have the Google Now cards available?
2. Is Google Now on Tap working?
I hope you guys can enlighten me
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:

1. Do they still apply when you change the launcher or this somehow linked to the EMUI stock launcher?
EMUI themes still apply when you change launchers. You can set your custom icons on the launcher desktop, but the themed icon will still appear in other places like the recent apps screen or in notifications. So you will still see ugly rounded square or circle boarder with your icons outside of your launcher desktop. Fortunately this can be solved by installing custom EMUI theme with stock icons, which you can find here: http://foerster.io/hack-huawei-enable-pure-icons-with-no-borders-backgrounds-etc/
2. Can you change the dropdown menu (notifications and quick settings) with these themes, too, in order to make it more like stock Android? Screenshots of the dropdown menu are rarely given.
Themes can change the dropdown menu to a certain extent, mostly changing the shortcut icons. I've yet to see any theme that can make the dropdown menu look completely stock, I don't think it's possible because they operate differently. To me the EMUI dropdown UI looked decent enough (albeit in a different style) so I don't mind it so much.
3. How easy is it to create themes by oneself?
Don't know, never tried it myself.
1. Do you have the Google Now cards available?
I have the international version of the phone (L29), most google services are pre-installed including google now cards. If you get the Chinese version you'll have to install google services yourself, which I heard is a fairly easy process.
2. Is Google Now on Tap working?
You can turn on the now on tap function in google cards settings, but it doesn't seem to work when I long press the home button.
Please note that I'm still on an early EMUI build (B103) and have not yet received any OTA, I don't know if later updates changes anything.
Overall I did get a fairly decent looking UI running on my mate 8. Some UI elements will remain in EMUI style (most notably recent apps and notification dropdown and settings screen) as you can't change those without a custom ROM or at least some root hack, but I don't mind those too much, in fact I liked some of the EMUI design. The worse part of EMUI 4.0 is the launcher and the forced icon background on 3rd party apps, but like I said earlier these can all be averted with 3rd party launcher and custom theme. If you're a diehard fans for the "stock-look" who won't accept any non-material design element then this may not be good enough for you, but it is good enough for me.
@beachletter
Thank you a million times, Sir!
So did I get this right and you also tried to achieve a more or less stock look?
If so, could you please provide screenshots of your dropdown menu and maybe of your homescreen?
Did you own a Nexus phone before the Mate 8, too?
Regarding the dropdown menu of notifications: if I understand it correctly it's more or less working like a timeline, not like on other phones. This can't be changed, can it? I guess I know the answer as themes are supposed to only change the look and not the way things work, but yeah...
This is what my ui looks like after getting custom launcher and material design icon theme.

I like stock icons and stock recent apps screen, but for notification and quick settings drop down I actually liked EMUI's implementation. I used CM and other near-stock rom in my previous phones.
See the post above for screenshots.
Alright, thanks again!
Now I have most of the information I can possibly get to make the right decision. Hopefully I will
Okay, so I've bought a Mate 8 to test things.
While it is really well designed, is nice to hold and snappy as well, I still can't get myself to like the software that much.
I have tried to apply the theme @beachletter provided but it somehow doesn't apply correctly and therefore many icons still have that bubble around it (e.g. Chrome, Play Store). Dialer and Contacts are still the same icons.
Regarding Google Now on Tap: this functionality was added with B152 firmware update which immediately showed up while setting up the device.
Additionally I have to say that the horizontal scrolling in the recent apps menu is even more unintuitive than I've thought it would be.

That's strange, on my phone the dialer and contacts have separate icons (although I usually don't use contacts because I can quick dial any name in dialer to search my contact list) , and I don't see any icon background/border for chrome or play store.
Maybe you should check out the newest version of the theme here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/hack-enable-pure-icons-borders-t3315731
and FYI the launcher I use is NOVA Prime
Good to know google now is back in B152. Unfortunately my phone doesn't get any OTA update above B103 yet. But at least there's no camera focusing issue on my phone, even with B103.

It's not that bad anymore. I installed Nova Prime as well and added icon packs to fit my preferences.
But with the new theme it's working, even in the status bar! Thanks for providing the link!

Actually I just switched to this theme which seems to have a more comprehensive set of material design icons:

Honor 10 LAG here and there after 9 pie update

Some lag in:
scrolling lost calls and calls (very huge lag)
swipe left notifications
swipe right a menu (note application for example)
graphical glitch when exit from software and hardware battery usage
scrolling app notification menu
Most of them gone with performance mode, but none of these was in 8.1, so I reverted back.
Anyone notice these lags?
Hi,
You are not alone. I had the same problems.
Which I did was disable some Huawei system apps including the launcher after installing Nova launcher and Fluid navigation gestures.
Follow this thread for list of app, but remember to see this one for safety. Disabling apps is much safety than uninstalling them.
After doing that, the lag has been almostly gone. You will come back to Android Oreo style multitasking cards and maybe can not use the ultra power saving mode. And, with an option in Fluid now your fingerprint also works as a home button (you still can use the scan function). I choose the option to run app from lockscreen, it helps hide permanently the navigation bar (before that it takes part of second), however the lockscreen clock will be cut parly at bottom.

does disabling stock launcher really reduce lags? I delete some stock apps, but not the launcher since I dont like oreo style, and still got the lags here and there.

Can you explain what you mean by "performance boost"? Higher benchmark score? More fluid operations? Or something else?

Everything is more fluid than before. Applications starts faster and operates faster. Not experienced any lag since the change. Before that, I had a lot. Never ran any benchmark ever, so I cannot say anything about that.

If you said higher benchmark score, I will totally skip it. But since you said a more fluid operations, I will disable that stock launcher very soon.... Thanks a lot for your info.
update after disabling stock launcher :
great news for third party launcher, disabling stock launcher will solve the black/empty recent app.
and yes, its a bit more fluid. how much? I dunno....its just a feeling, no benchmark or any other measurement.
