Google Hangouts 2.0.012 KITKAT version with SMS working on Gingerbread 2.3.3

Hi Folks
Feeling too happy to report that even GB users can get a glimpse of what Hangout 2.0 performs on android 4.4 KITKAT!!
First of all let me announce the device I've tested it on. Mine is a Dell Streak running GB 2.3.3 Traveller's DSC ROM.
How I did it:
1. I have my phone rooted
2. Renamed existing hangout apk so that if in case i need a backup. Mine was in /data/app folder
3. Moved and renamed attached hangouts 2 apk as "com.google.android.talk-2.apk" (without quotes) - don't know if this a useless step?
4. changed permission of the renamed apk to rw-r--r--
5. Cleared dalvik cache
6. Opened the app and enabled SMS on the prompt and allowed it to collect all existing SMS messages
7. Voila! everythings works so far.
Features:
1. SMS integration
2. More fluid (in my opinion)
3. Online/offline notifier
4. Still exploring the differences
5. Will check if this can be integrated into the ROM itself or not by getting rid of MMS.apk
Need your feedbacks and press thanks if it works for you too. :victory:
Link: here u go! My dropbox shared URL
Came to know that video chat in hangout wasn't working with only the steps above. to fix
1. Download the libvideochat_jni.so
2. Move to system/lib
3. Change permission to rw-r--r--
4. Try video calling. Should work now!
5. Let me know
*NEW ADDITION*
HOLO themed black version (via- makers of Ultima ROM) of the same 2.0.012 version here
IMP: Please do NOT update hangout or else you will lose SMS functionality.
Successful, tha nks
This worked just fine on my Samsung Proclaim with 2.3.4. I had just been trying to sideload the new 2.0 yesterday, and it wouldn't work and I was afraid I might be getting screwed here in the near future. I use google voice extensively, and with the recent announcement that google would be dropping xmpp support for voice, I can tell that it a sign of much greater hangouts/talk integration and I'm a little concerned that my numerous pieces of older hardware are going to be left out in the dust. So, I had tried to sideload the new one yesterday, and it wouldn't work, but following your prescribed steps, it's working just fine now.

This step shouldn't be necessary if embedding it in /system. Hangouts.apk works just as well. Like I mentioned in my ROM thread, I'll have to try this out. If I like the change, then I'll update Traveller DSC.
Have you attempted this with any of the other KitKat apps?
Works for me by just installing it and not pushing it as a system app. Android 2.3.7

If you don't have to add that file, you might want to check to see if your ROM already includes it.
On a side note, the KitKat version of Hangouts is apparently available on the Play Store, but only for ICS and up.

The newest one released yesterday will install on Gingerbread phones. However, SMS has been removed for folks below 4.0. The previous version pulled from the Nexus 5 did put Hangouts SMS on Gingerbread.
One thing the portal article doesn't mention is that Google does version checking on its files. If the API version isn't sufficient what is downloaded is an older version that would work at the given API version. Case in point is Gmail. The current version is 4.6, as my ICS tablet will attest. However on a Gingerbread device, a freshly delivered version from the Play Store will be version 2.3.6.
In the case of Hangouts, the version being downloaded to Gingerbread devices is version 1.1 build 12 or something similar. Only ICS and up will get Hangouts 2.0. So to summarize, it's not that certain features are being disabled (as this thread can attest to) it's that Google is sending an older version of the app to the device.

It's kind of silly really, since the 2.0 version works fine on my Gingerbread ROM. Sending texts, receiving texts, pictures, video etc. Even the holo style settings menus work. Nothing appears badly broken, but from time to time it might force close.
The API support is within the APK, because otherwise it wouldn't allow you to install it. So if google strip that away then they're doing it simply to get people to update to a newer version of Android.
The file here is 2.0.012 (884159-30). The version Play Store will install is 1.2.018 (849105-30).
In one respect it isn't all that silly. Gingerbread is a few years old now and Google wants to focus on Android 4.x. I actually can understand that. What I would like to see, but never will, is Dell going back and making a KitKat ROM for the Streak, especially knowing KitKat will work on the Streak.
I can understand that they'd like people to upgrade, but blocking a feature for no good reason is silly. The 2.0 version clearly works. Yes theres the force close that happens 2% of the time, but that's going to be a bug in the code and not an API issue, because if it were API related it wouldn't even run or it'd force close every single time.
Of course I'm due for an upgrade anyway, and I probably will soon, but it still would of been nice to see google officially support the 2.0 version on Gingerbread.
Hey it works bt always show the number.... I mean showing the number insted showing the name which I save in my phone or sim card

Yes, that is a known issue even for Nexus 5 owners. An application bug probably to be fixed in next few versions. For now few people have found changing their contacts to international format helpful (like for Indian nos changing it from 022xxxxxxxx to +9122xxxxxxxx). It didn't work for many but there is no harm in trying for now. Do make sure to force sync contacts and then switch off your phone and switch back on.
Let us know if it helps!

Hey man, can you see if the latest Hangouts update with messaging will work on Gingerbread? I'm certain it won't, but maybe you can give it a shot again.
I checked all later versions but those don't work with SMS support. May be @theos0o can help us by enabling SMS support for all devices as he did for FB messenger.

[Info] Official Kitkat 4.4.2 changelist

I have been using my N900 with official 4.4.2 for a couple of months and no more OTA updates found but in sammobile there comes another 4.4.2 release with same CSC code and different build date and changelist. I went on googling and all I can know is Samsung didn't reveal the changelogs. So people can say higher changelist number means fixes or improvement.
But what exactly are they? Im curious to know and installed 4.4.2 with higher changelists and i just want to share what i can find out from newer 4.4.2. All u guys please post if u find any changes. My findings are just only user experience level...
Newer one
Changelist: 1955999
PDA: N900XXUENG3
==============================
Older one
Changelist: 1185114
PDA: N900XXUDND1
==============================
I lists them here.
1. Kid mode installer
2. Knox 2.0
3. In notification panel, the term "Location" is used instead of GPS. (and previously location on/off toggle in the setting is regardless of GPS on/off in notification bar)
4.Camera bug seem to be fixed (of course camera works like a charm without lagging and no more "processing"message after taking a picture) not sure about picture quality bcoz my bare eyes cant see any difference.
5. Battery drain issue seems to be fixed for certain devices
(I cant make it different coz previous one i have no problem with battery and certainly this newer one has no battery problem as well)
6. No wifi issues
7. In Antutu test, score improves from 40320 to 40835 ( could be just variation)
8. Virtual tour mode in camera
9. Batter fully charged icon changed
Still need time to find out more and any one plz post if u find anything out.
So i recommend u to use this build if u are using 4.4.2 with some bugs.

I was asking lol, this feature is on the galaxy s5 and I find it useful to tell me whos calling or texting me.
I know the s4/note 3 have this but only in handsfree mode, where as s5 has it in both normal and handsfree mode.
Samsung doesn't release an official changelist, for any device. There's a list of added features for a change in Android version, but never in-version patches.
You won't find one. The changelist number is an internal registration number for Samsung itself, it's not meant to mean anything for the users. As for indicating how new or old a firmware is, that's what the firmware numbering is for. (The last three symbols of the AP/Phone represent Year, Month and revision number.)

yes that's why we can only know by users' experiences.

currently on 6.0.1. is nougat upgrade necessary?

My device: Galaxy S7 G930V on Android 6.0.1
I already know the answer most people will give here and I've considered it already ---> "if everything works as you like it, why consider upgrading?"
I was just wondering if I'm missing anything by not upgrading to nougat. Are there battery issues or any quirky bugs on nougat?
How long could I keep this phone on Marshmallow without expecting issues? I'd like to just keep it the way it is and I plan on keeping this for 2 years at lesst.

People still use phones with lower Android versions than MM
My S7 is also still on v6.01. And my S7 edge is currently on v7.0 - not by choice, though. The display on my edge went out so I had to send it to Samsung's repair facility for a warranty resolution. When I received it back, or I should say, when I received most of it back (because it wasn't really the same phone - it had the same IMEI ID but a completely different chassis), it had v7.0 on it as one would expect. So I've been familiarizing myself with that OS version and comparing it to v6.01. I didn't really want Nougat and would have held off from upgrading/installing it had there been a choice in the matter.
Some things that I dislike about Nougat are: 1) The default system font and highlight colors suck - it's just crappy looking to me; 2) The lack of defined separation in the messages on the notification shade - it's all muddled together with haphazardly-positioned, very small icons; 3) Whenever a call comes in, the selected ringtone rings the first time at very low volume and then increases - I wonder whose stupid idea that was? And I expect that I'll stumble upon many more Nougat irritants over time.
Samsung and Google seem to not only replace features that were fine with ones that are not so fine, they also attempt to force those hokey features and changes upon us with their upgrades so we have no choice but to accept them. In my opinion that obliterates certain pleasurable experiences some of us have gotten used to while using these devices. Sure, there are some cool new features and capabilities with every major release. But there are also always bugs and disappointments. Suffice it to say, I like Marshmallow much better than Nougat so far.

Is PDP back to blocking upgrades and nags on MM again? They had concealed the upgrade packages from their package list for a while so neither the nags nor the upgrade process could be avoided. I had to use note7alliance's package blocker to get rid of the nags. Can I expect full blocking from PDP again on MM?

Hmm. I'm wondering if they re-added the ability to disable the OTA updates then? In October of 2016 (or so) it was reported that Samsung made a deal with the creator of PDP to remove the OTA update packages from PDP's package list, thus rendering PDP unable to disable Marshmallow's update engine or disable the related nags. Have a look here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69347015&postcount=25
in PDP i only could disable:
UrgentFWUpdate NFC
UrgentFWUpdateSensorHub
UrgentFWUpdateTSP
no more, hope it helps

Well, I have PDP v9.8 on my non-rooted S7 edge, running Nougat, and none of those packages appear in the list. You must have an older version. PDP apparently removed the functionality by filtering their package list in the newer versions.

I don't see those packages within my PDP package list. I'm in the US. Perhaps they've removed the ability to disable the OTA updates/nags only in the US or only in certain countries?

[APP][8.0+][Universal] Nokia Camera 91.9.1130.40 with Pro Mode and Animojis ENABLED

Nokia Camera 91.9.1130.40-9558b747 with Pro Mode and Animojis ENABLED

TTSIA, and WYSIWYG.
The title says it all, and what you see is what you get.
It has enabled Pro Mode, Animojis and more features, for any device that supports Level 3 Camera2 API. Have fun!
Things I'm very aware of:
- Crashes on OnePlus devices Fixed in 91.9.1130.40!
- The Shutter Speed control doesn't have any visual effect on the viewfinder, but does work on the final pictures.
- Features like Live Bokeh, Panorama and Slow Motion work only on certain devices.
Changelog between version 91.9.1130.40 and 91.9.1130.40-9558b747:
More animojis unlocked! They shall appear now as downloadable content.
Changelog between version 8.1041.71 and 91.9.1130.40:
Pro Mode unlocked, as always, with a refreshed new look!
New AR section in the top menu! It lets you choose a set of facial stickers, Animojis and lightening effects!
Fixed Settings menu crash in OnePlus (and probably some other) devices.
New Slow Motion and TimeLapse options! (Tested on few limited set of devices)
Downsides between version 8.1041.71 and 91.9.1130.40:
Only works in ARM64 devices! Due to the lack of libraries, I can only ensure compatibility with these devices.
Minimal Android API version has been up'ed from 25 to 26, meaning, this camera can only be used in Android 8.0+ devices.
I'd like to take this opportunity to make a roll call to everyone who's willing to test this, as I want to see how many different devices are compatible.
Please, do let everyone know whether it works on yours or not! :)
Before reporting a crash or a fault, check if the ORIGINAL APK works on your device, and if it did, then feel free to attach a logcat!
If you own an older device, such as an ARM32 or you are stuck in Android 7.0 Nougat (in which case, I'd recommend you to find your device's sub-forum, if any, and install a Custom ROM ASAP), I recommend to stay on version 8.1041.71.

It perfectly works on my Oneplus 5 (and it doesn't crash at all)
On my Pixel 2, only white balance and exposure are working on Pro mode. ISO and shutter speed can only be set to Auto in the port while they don't show up in the original apk. I think there should be an option to change the focus but it is nowhere to be found in both versions. Shooting slow motion or timelapse video and clicking setting crash the app. Trying to take photo with beauty mode on gives "Action not support: 708" message and does not capture any photo as well.

Just out of curiosity, is this something related to hardware or something LG could change if they wanted to?

Lost Call recording after updating Color OS - Find X2 Pro

Just a FYI - After upgrading Color OS to the latest version i have lost the call recording and unable to play back recordings in the 'recorder app'
Avoid upgrading for now if you use this feature.
I have called Oppo and they want to send my phone to a 'service center' so they can downgrade the firmware.
Im in New Zealand, Multiple people have called reporting this feature is missing - Would advise to call up and report it if you are going to miss this feature.
Might look for a APK for the recording manager or Call/dialer to get the feature back - (can anyone help?)
