Which MIUI version to use? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

9.5.19 has anti-rollback features. I'm using version 9.5.13, should I update to version 9.5.14 or 9.5.17, or keep the version that I've got.
Is version 9.5.17 still even available? I tried updating to that using the app and select package, but I received an error saying it wasn't a verified package. I've also read some things on the internet that suggests Xiaomi no longer allow people to update to that version, but I'm not sure if that's true.

http://en.miui.com/getrom.php?r=341&mobile=yes&app=false 9.5.17 update is available in official website and you can update it using updater app... or else goto settings about phone and check for software update

I can indeed use both those options. Is there a risk that, if I allow the device to update, that instead of updating to 9.5.17 as it visually displays, it'll update to version 9.5.19 and I'll then have antiroll back protections?

If software update is displaying 9.5.17 then it will update to 9.5.17 version only....
Only risk in 9.5.19 version is you cant rollback to previous version (9.5.17)

I'm reading that it can result in brick phones and causes issues for those wanting to use a custom ROM, hence my caution.

How can I get nougat on my NXT-L09C636B191? Firmware finder app doesn't work.

Just trying to somehow get nougat without rooting or anything. Firmware finder shows an OTA available for L09C636B593 but I can't get it to go into updater.
This is a good question because I'm in the same boat
same to you

About the only way I've seen so far, is to load twrp, screw around with other files, load a custom rom.
Until the rom shows up via the stock updater, or, the firmware finder app shows something that says
FULL and not OTA or FullOTA, you and the rest of us are stuck until Huawei officially releases it.
It's not that bad of a deal though, 6 for me anyway is VERY stable.
I agree it's stable but one of the reasons I bought a huawei phone was they are supposed to be the first to update to new versions and here I am still waiting. I thought Samsung was bad but guess what the s7 is already on android 7 and I'm not.
I think I'll be going back to Samsung soon as the note 8 comes out.

from L09C636b210 you can update via Firmware Finder to L09C636b521. Then go to System Update and you will see L09C636b563 update available. I recommend DOWNLOAD LATEST FULL PACKAGE from the pull down menu.
The update came for me, but not through firmware finder. Mine came through the built in update program
in the phone.
Mine was L29C185B180, then I got 321 through firmware finder, but it never would update. When I saw someone
post that 560 came through, I tried firmware finder, never had anything, but when I checked the Huawei update
app and it showed up.
I uninstalled the firmware finder app. Nice idea, but didn't work for me.

Updating a C432

Just recently bought this phone, and after scouring this forums the past few days I found that the EMUI that shipped with my phone is 4-5 months old (Dec '16) and that there have been multiple updates since, even though the OTA on my phone says I'm using the latest version. This scares me, not so much for features, but because of potentially missing security patches.
Looking at hwmt.ru's listings, there's a lot of updates, and for my specific model the latest OTA is B181, and the latest "full" update (I assume these are whole images) is B156.
Can I download the B156 updates (basically the same way used when rooting the phone) to update the stock ROM?
And if that is correct, what are all the listings on that site under the "A" (or "Тип") column with "OTA" for?
Download the firmware finder app for android and update through it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tools/general/huawei-firmware-finder-team-mt-t3469146
You probably won't be able to update to 181 though... You'll have to test which ones you can install. Huawei needs to approve each firmware version before we can install through system update.
B181 didn't work, authentication error, gonna try the other way and work my way up instead.
Nice that someone made a tool to automate this though, even though it's a hacky way
Nevermind that, every single version gets that authentication error, even the ones older than the one I have currently installed.

Updating from MM with root+xposed to N with root+xposed without data loss

Hey everyone.
I've stayed on Marshmallow since I got this phone, but now that Oreo has started rolling out on various devices, and Xposed is available for Nougat (I can't live without MinMinGuard anymore), I figured it's time for an upgrade to (stock) Nougat. I'm currently on EMUI 4.1, Android 6.0, version FRD-L09C432B131. Can I update to B403 without losing my data and access to root and Xposed? B403 is the highest version approved for installation for my device that I found through the Firmware Finder for Huawei app.
Googling on this issue hasn't left me much wiser; Can I just flash my stock recovery and boot partitions to enable the upgrade process, download and update through the firmware finder app, reflash newest twrp and then reflash supersu and xposed from twrp once on 7.0, all without losing my apps and data? I've used this phone as my daily driver for nearly two years, and I would like to avoid having to set it up from scratch as much as possible, as that's a pain-in-the-ass process that'll take me ages.
Anyone have any experience doing this? Any input is appreciated!

You have root you will loose that , you need to flash it stock b131 as you have and go to hisuit i download the next version , after once updated go firmware finder and update new one update like c432b380 and next update is 382 you download it with FF and update and second is 391 you download id with FF and keep doing that until you reach the b403 i did that on my c432.

Firmware Finder in-app-proxy/DNS not working anymore - solution??

Hi,
I just realized that Firmware Finder can't update the device anymore as Huawei changed some protocol. That sucks as b370 was just approved for the Mate 9.
So how to upgrade the device now? Not interested in rooting and all the other junk that potentially brick the device.
Thanks
I not prepared to do this but someone on another thread said, you install HiSuite 8 onto your pc...connect your phone. Then you goto update firmware and it will say you have the latest version, which we know isn't true, but it will give you the option to downgrade to latest nougat..... This is true as it did give me this option...
Once downgraded, you can use your phone OTA to update back to latest oreo....... Phew!
Like I said, to much faffing around just to have latest firmware...

Can't update firmware after installing GSM

To install GSM I downgraded my P40 lite from Emui 10.0.1.236 all way down to Emui 10.0.1.108 using Firmware Finder, Hisuite proxy and Hisuite Itself.
Now after installing google, I want to update the phone to 10.0.1.236 again, but it says that the older version is the newest in the updates menu. I tried to reinstall Hisuite, tried to update with the Hisuite proxy and Firmware Finder and with builtin updater in the phone. But still... I can't update my system.
If someone knows some way to reactivate the updates on the phone please reply to this thread
Hi.
Was in the same situation. Tried multiple old firmwares with hisuite proxy, and they downloaded and worked just fine, but couldn't upgrade from them.
Finally found a suggestion on a German forum that worked.
Using the OTG software install method, download a firmware from easy-firmware(dot)com and install that. Be very careful what software you donwnload as you could brick your device.
This worked for me, installed version 144 for my P40 Pro Plus, got immediately a software update notification to 156. Delayed that, done the GMS install, restarted, updated to 156, and then, because I was in thebeta, updated to EMUI 11. All good.
Please be aware that the site is requiring money for the downloads, and that I am in no way affliated with them. It's your own decision what to do

Did you ever figure it out? My p40 lite is doing the same thing on 10.0.1.108 as well
OTG install a complete firmware. There is no other way.
Working perfectly ever since I wrote the previous post, upgraded from the Emui11 beta to the final without issues.

Will this remove the Googlefier install ?
Yeah, you have to completely reset and erase the phone, flash the oldest firmware you can find through OTG, then after booting stop the automatic updates from settings.
Then apply Googlefier and after everything is working fine, only then update.
I had a hard time finding the firmware files for OTG, maybe you're luckier.
So basically, I have 10.0.1.108 installed currently with Googlefier installed.. I'm not able to update the emui via hisuite/proxy, fails the install. So then I need to do OTG install of a fullota emui and then reinstall Googlefier? I guess anything newer than .108 should be ok?
Yes, but be careful, try picking an older software, or you won't be able to use Googlefier. It fails with the latest updates, so your best bet is install it on an older one and then update.
A reinstall of your version 108 or something a bit newer should work.
