[Completed] [Q] Help with CWM partitions

Hey guys, i'm running CWM recovery v6.0.4.7. In the recovery, i see many partitions under 'Mounts and storage' like:-
/boot
/system
/cache
/data
/persist
/firmware
/sns
/data and /data/media (/sd card)
Would someone care to explain what's inside these partitions and what are the risks if i format them ? Also can someone explain which all partitions are changed when i flash a ROM/kernel etc ?? Thankyou :good:
Hi there,
This thread here ( [REF] CWM - Clockworkmode menu options & Partitions– GENERAL KNOWLEDGE) gives you a lot of the information you are looking for. Though this is in the S2 section the principles are all the same so you can ask questions in that thread.
NO hope there
That thread was last updated in May. And i only want to know about /persist, /firmware, /sns more importantly, which i searched everywhere but could'nt find. Any help would be appreciated

I would suggest asking in the thread linked above.

Please keep in mind also that the partitions you are talking about are extremely important to the device, messing with these areas could lead to irreversible damage.
Yes i do understand that these partitions are vital for the proper functioning of my phone. But i would love to know which all partitions are changed when i flash a ROM. For eg: I formatted /boot partition once, but flashing a custom ROM immediately restored the necessary files and i was up and running again. Only later did i discover while reading a post that /boot partition consisted of the kernel and the RAMDISK, which is included in every ROM zip file.
Thank you and thread closed!

Problem in creating partitions

Accidentally I deleted boot and boot1 partitions on my Mi4 while extending system partition. Could create system partitions as ext2 but I do not understand what type of filesystem boot and boot1 belong to. Could someone help in creating back the lost partitions? Thanks in advance
[update]
I think I messed up boot partition...so tried to flash rom via fastboot(since I created the system partition already). Now I can't flash recovery also. Can enter only fastboot mode.Is my mobile permanently bricked?

/data mount errorTWRP on S7 under OREO

Hello
I have installed in my S7 Oreo "SM-G930F_1_20180521110554_zhq0ffe25r_fac.zip" unfortunately along with this I received
TWRP "twrp-3.2.2-0-herolte.img.tar" " unable to mount data " invalid arguement) "
How do you get TWRP to mount "/ data" so I can root my S7?
Hello, you have to erase the DATA partition (no need to format to ext2 and ext4, simply erase DATA)
After that reboot to recovery and you will be able to flash Magisk.zip to DATA
But after the first boot it will lock again.... (but Magisk will be installed)
Hello,
It's very hard to find information about this specific problem, with S7 running 8.0 and not being able to keep /data mountable. I'm glad I found this thread.
I'm having the same issue, but I saw that there's a (temporary) fix for S8 (and Note 8?), so I wonder if there's any progress or is it planned to make a fix for the S7?
Because I cannot make nandroid backups like this... And it's quite annoying to experiment with ROMs without a clean backup. Anyone with any info?

[QUESTION] How to mount /system partition in TWRP or OrangeFox ?

I recently started flashing my Poco X3 with a new rom and some mods, but I quickly realized that when I was flashing my G-Apps package that my /system partition didn't have the free space required to install this package.
I did a bit of research and found out that with TWRP or OrangeFox recovery you could increase the partition size by going into: Wipe > Selecting the partition you want > Fix Partition.
So the next logic step was to try and replicate the same thing on my own phone, but when I went on my custom recovery, I saw that my /system partition wasn't appearing, so I tried to manually mount it by going into the mount option but that did not work, also tried in the terminal by typing "mount /system" but that did nothing saying that "partition /system is not in fstab".
So now I'm completely stuck because to change my ROM I need to wipe the /system partiton which apparently doesn't exist and both recoveries do not work.
PS: I tried this method on all of the recoveries present on the Forum.
I'm asking you guys if you have any idea how to fix this issue or if I have to wait until someone releases a new recovery that is actually fixed ? Thank you.
AFAIK you can't and you shouldn't mess with system partition in any "old standard" way in Poco X3 NFC ... for now it will can make more damage than benefits... you should flash gapps with minimal size that can be safely flashed and install the rest from Play... you want to know more? learn about dynamic partitions used in our phone, I just know that recoveries are patched so people can't brick their phones anymore...

Is it possible to switch back to FDE (full disk encryption) instead of FBE on current devices?

Is it possible to do this on devices launched with Android 9+ (using FBE by default) by modifying the userdata entry in fstab or similar, or have the current ROMs / kernels lost support to boot with this type of encryption? Are there any successful cases? I ask this because FBE is a nuisance for anyone who likes to modify their device. You need to format the userdata every time you change the ROM, consequently also losing the internal storage, different from how it was in FDE that just wiping data was enough. I have also had many problems at the device random not being able to unlock the userdata and forcing me to format it, which never happened when I had a device with FDE. Any help or information is welcome, thank you!
factory reset should do just fine, else try wiping the header / footer of the partition and format to ext4 or f2fs
