I recently used HiSuite to backup my honor 6x. When I backed-up the phone I chose to use a password to encrypt the files. The files are saved as .enc format. For example I have pictures saved as XXXXXXX.jpg.enc on my PC.
Here is the problem:
I lost my phone... And now I'm trying to go to the backup on my PC to recover my valuable contact information and pictures. How can I decrypt those .enc files and access my backup files?

I have a similar problem and I already bought another Huawei... I did a backup with a Huawei p20 and lost it...
Get a new p20 but my files look like a mess is not a zip file when I open hisuite and try to restore the files, the program don't open the files or anything so I really need to get access to my back up

Not sure if it will work but select the file, double click and select the option rename and then delete the .enc part. Before trying this copy the file to another location

Hi all, thanks for all your time and input. Is there a way of decrypting the hisuite backup folder on a pc and then somehow transferring that data to a non-huawei phone?
Probably not, so maybe my best bet would be to borrow a spare Huawei phone and recover to that and then transfer phone to phone, I have the password.

As the information is scattered all over, here is the latest summary of the steps to decrypt your HiSuite backup folder (thanks to all the previous contributors):
The example steps assume you are running Windows 10 64 bit and running python 3.8.6:
1. Download python windows 3.8.6 version (64 bit)
python-3.8.6-amd64.exe
or select your version here

2. Download decrypt package (64 bit and matches python version 3.8x)

I decrypted all the files as the procedure you said but images are in .tar format and every time open it shows error like archives in unknown format or damaged i tried downloading other archives like 7 zip or win zip but solved please help regarding this problem

Neither of your phones where your whatsapp is installed need be rooted.
You must enable USB debugging on both devices
You must have Android SDK, we will be using the Android Debug Bridge (ADB)
Have Android Backup Extractor ready, we will use it.
Instructions:
Connect the phone which holds your old database to your computer, and enable USB debugging.
Use ADB to make a backup of the whatsapp database
Code:
adb.exe backup -f whatsapp.ab com.whatsapp
Use 'Android Backup Extractor' to extract whatsapp.ab to whatsapp.tar
Open whatsapp.tar with 7zip (or any other compression utility) and extract the file called 'msgstore.db'
Rename the file to 'old.db'
Repeat the above steps for your new phone, but rename the file to 'new.db'
Run merjapp in the following fashion:

A pretty neat tool!
I was trying to merge two databases. It seemed that everything went okay and all with the "Done!" message. However, there seems to be no changes made two any of the database. Their filesizes remains the same for old.db and new.db.
I tried loaded the old.db anyway since you said that is the merged one. However, I am getting only the old one.
Please advise.
And you didn't use the '-simulation' flag by chance, right?

I think I have done everything as instructed above. But the phone doesn't seem to recognize the new mgstore.db backup file.
I notice that the new file isn't crypt7 as the original mgstore.db file from the internal drive. Is that causing my problems? How do I fix it?

Did you make a typo with the file like you did here? It should be msgstore.db, not mgstore.db.
No, it doesn't have to be encrypted in order for whatsapp to recognize it.

Can this app merge multiple databases...
Like if i want to merge 3-4 old databases into one? is it possible? if either one of these databases have same data, will that be duplicated?
It can merge more than one, but that's under the assumption they're mutually exclusive (in terms of messages - i.e., no message appears twice)
So if you used one phone (1), started with a clean whatsapp on a second phone (2), then another clean whatsapp on a third (3), and so on...
You'll merge (1) as 'old' and (2) as 'new', then use the output as 'old' and merge it with (3) as 'new', etc.

That's what i figured, because I was already thinking about all the other files with dates like msgstore-2014-10-12.1.db.crypt7 that i took out of the Database folder.

The output file, that I renamed to msgstore.db has "gear wheels" as an icon, but the msgstore file from the database of the phone has no icon at all. Is that somehow significant? Does that maybe lead you to my mistacke?
The fact the the output file has the 'gear wheel' icon just means Windows detects it as a database, I think it's quite meaningless...
The other files it didn't give this icon are *.db? Or are you referring to the encrypted databases? They encrypted ones probably won't have this icon.

Precisley. Nothing comes, when I reinstall whatsapp.
It is not like when I put the normal backup data back in the databse folder. Then whatsapp realises that there is a backup file in the internal memory and gives me the option to restore the history. Not so with the merged file.
Btw. I have no sd card. I connect the phone with usb. I figured that it is an unessencial diffrence? Am I wrong? My phone btw. is Motorola Moto G. If that helps
I'll check, if the old an new are mutually exclusive. I think in the progress I got a message on the new and old one. What would happen in that case? Would your program do the job, but then creat a bad "output" file?

I checked if there are any intersecting messages... It turns out there weren't any.
@namnoops: Does the oldest message in the new history have to be more recent then any old message from the old history? I mean: Is it a problem for merjapp if the timelines intersect in any way, although there are no double messages?

Can anyone please help by proving information on how to easily merge these files together in Windows 7?
Ultimately I would like to be able to view these using 7-zip.

That's normal. You don't want to merge them. They're all in a folder that is the backup

I get an invalid archive error when I try to open the data backups though I don't on any of the other backup files (cache.ext4.win, system.ext4.win etc).
I'm pretty sure they need to be concatenated together though I am not sure if this is easily to accomplish in Windows 7. Here is an other post with a similar problem that was solved using the Ubuntu.
On ubuntu I've just appended .tar to file name and it works.

Gave that a shot but it didn't work
Should work just copying and pasting them into the same folder. TWRP treats the backup for a partition to be separate and complete from another. I've mixed and matched restoring partitions from different backups and it's worked. You'll have to use your judgment as to whether the restored partitions will play nice with each other.
EDIT - A workaround is to restore the partitions that you want and then back them up into a new archive.

This "small app" has recently become broken because the source for the currency file's URL has changed.
When the app is newly installed, it pops an error at first launch:
"Unable to download currency file. Please try again later".
It broke around mid-july 2018.
What I'm looking for is the latest available currency file so that the program can at least work (even if it can't update).
It should be located at:
Android/data/com.sony.smallapp.currency/files/
If someone could kindly .zip and upload the "files" folder here, it would be majorly helpful.

I believe something in the .xml changes when the soft has successfully downloaded the .csv file by itself.

I clear data from the app and delete the .csv file from Android/data/com.sony.smallapp.currency/files/ and the app not work after i put again the file .csv and work again
and i made and one backup with Titanium backup if can help
It worked finally!
Also while the app's internal update mechanism is broken, we can update manually, here is the most recent currency database file :

1. Download the newest .csv file from: https://ptax.bcb.gov.br/ptax_internet/consultarTodasAsMoedas.do?method=consultaTodasMoedas
2. Delete the old .csv file and copy the new .csv file in:
Android/data/com.sony.smallapp.currency/files/
3. Disable WiFi, then launch Currency Converter app. It'll detect and use the newest .csv
4. Done!

We recently bought a new Smartphone for my GF - S10+. Accidently we forgot to save WhatsApp in the Settings so usually it would just sync after logging in on new phone.. the old phone is sold and we realized WhatsApp is gone. Fortunatly we did a FULL BACKUP with HiSuite on my pc before… I have already tried to look into that backup for WhatsApp but all I see is the APK and a huge TAR-file that I cannot open with 7-zip or anything.
My Question to the Pros here: is it somehow possible to restore all those damn Chats with *just* the HiSuite local backup or open that stupid TAR-file with all those files for the app??

If yes, restore from your full backup, and then try to extract the db files for your WhatsApp Messenger.
the problem is, that you need a HUAWEI phone to "connect" and "browse" that backup..
HiSuite extracted the whatsapp files and packed it with TAR - but I can't open those with usual programs that handle TAR.
Any ideas??
if there would be a way of faking an existing huawei phone connection to my pc it would be awesome. this would help me to browse the full backup and extract the files I need.

As I know, 7-Zip is free software with open source and you can use 7-Zip on a Windows PC to unpack your .tar file.

Not possible with common unpacking programs. I am asking if anyone knows what file format HiSuite is hiding behind TAR. They are clearly NOT USUAL TSR FILES. You can’t unpack them with common un-tar-programs... I have tried 7z winzip winrar and also Cygwin64 „tar“-command in commandline.
Is there really not a single one here who has deeper knowledge about HUAWEI HiSuite and their backup technologie or what format they hiding behind those TARs??

It is less possibility to restore the chats...
I had files in "Safe Folder" in Files app by Google. I accidentally deleted the Files app data. Now I can't see the encrypted files in the safe folder. I am feeling helpless.
Those files were really important. I can see all those files are in the .FilesByGoogle folder in the encrypted from. Please help me to decrypt / restore them.

Those files were really important. I can see all those files are in the .FilesByGoogle folder in the encrypted from. Please help me to decrypt / restore them.

No, that's not the case. If I reinstall Google Files app, and use the same PIN as before, it shows an empty Safe Folder with an error message: "Some files on your SD card can't be opened on this device. They may belong to another safe folder or they may be corrupted." (Screenshot attached)
Please help me to restore those files from the .FilesByGoogle folder.
Haven't heard or read that the Safe Folder folder created and managed by Google Files app can get corrupted out of nowhere.
Somebody from Google Files team over there?
