Dual simultaneous 4G/3G - 3G on second/voice SIM - Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) Questions & Answers

Can anyone confirm that while using one sim for data on 4G / LTE can you have the other sim for voice on 3G? I know that this (as every other phone in the world) is a dual stand by smartphone.
If you need further clarifying: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/dual-sim-simultaneous-4g-3g-capable-t3370632
I will appreciate if anyone could confirm this along with firmware version and model version, since this feature has been available in some countries in the past, but not all.
Thanks,
JP

[Q] may i install 3g uk xoom's rom to my verizon us 3g xoom to get simcard working?

hello all,
i've a 3g verizon us xoom. may i install uk 3g xoom's rom on it?
may i use a 2g/3g sim card after that?
thanks
Same Problem
Hi developers,
I have a very similar problem, except for I'm trying to use my US (used to be Verizon - but I UNLOCKED it) with China Unicom's 3G sim card. It won't pick up signal. I wonder if that is possible and what I need to change in order for it to work.
Any help will be appreciated,
thanks
The US xoom is cdma 3g and not gsm, which is why it wont pick up signal. Also the simcard slot is not for the 3g but for 4g which isn't available yet. I would doubt it would work.

Verizons xoom is CDMA and the hardware is different, the sim slot in the verizon has no hardware yet. When the free hardware update comes in at some point it will be 4G not 3G.
So in short the answer is NO.
Lordao
YES! you can use any images on your verizon 3G XOOM!
I have tried several, and they ALL work!
you WILL get your SIM working as well!! but you will not be able to use the 3G GSM network, because the images do not contain the baseband files used for the radio.
Hardware differences have not been confirmed by anyone, people are just assuming. The radio chip used multi-frequency capable hence must be the same.
One must do a baseband firmware change, to find out if the CDMA to HSPA/GSM will work!

Ok
Thanks for your responses...
I'll go back to China Unicom and ask them for the CDMA 3G, since they're supposed to have that, too.

Specs on second sim on Moto G dual-sim version

Is the second SIM WCDMA 3G voice capable or is it only GSM as most dual-sim phones out there?
I can't seem to find any information on it, and this is an important piece of data for people living in countries with no 2G GSM network.
The second sim is GSM.

In other words, useless for Japan (where all voice calls go over WCDMA and there is no GSM network).

You are right in that it is useless in Japan. However, just to clarify the issue: Both SIM slots are 3g capable, but the phone forces the SIM card that is not used for data to 2g mode. Only one of the SIMs can be used for data at a time, just as you can only send texts or make voice calls through one at a time so it makes sense in any other country...
What is not clear is whether this is a Motorola decision to save battery or imposed by the chip set used or an Android OS issue. Covia Fleaphone has same issue, and provides a shortcut to switch the active SIM (active=3g enabled SIM), so it seems to be not just a Motorola decision...

I believe it has only one 3g radio in it and used by whatever Sim is being used for data So its a hardware issue

Sounds about right... It is a real pity how bad the documentation/specifications info is on dual sim phones. Make it very difficult to pick the right one, several people now claim that the Xperia M2 works with 3g on both SIMs simultaneously, but can't verify this...
At the same time I guess Japan (where I use it) is an unusual case, most places still have 2g, and Japan only recently started selling separate SIMs...

Dual SIM U11 on TMobile & At&t (USA)?

My googlefu isn't turning much up on the dual sim version of this phone, but hardware seems to be almost identical to the standard version.
1)Does anybody know if the international version would work with TMobile WiFi calling? Volte?
2) is the SIM2 slot 2g only or is it 3g? (This would be my att sim card, which disabled their 2g network)

Same questions here. I'm interested in the international version with 128gb memory and 6gb RAM. I want to use two Sims in this phone, one TMobile and one AT&T.
I really need TMobile wifi calling to work out of the box on this phone. Has anyone been able to get an answer on this?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Dual SIM 4G+3G or only 4G+2G ?

I'm contemplating a purchase for a Mate 9 with dual SIM capability ( from Kogan Australia). It's advertised with dual SIM. For me, the secondary SIM would only add value if I can use it on 3G, while I keep the main SIM on 4G.
But in some documentation, the secondary SIM only supports 2G. Has anyone successfully used Mate 9 with 4G+3G SIM combination.

For sure....! I also think 4G+4G can work...
If the Australian version is the same as the European version it will support 2G, 3G and 4G on SIM 1 whilst SIM 2 will support 2G and 3G.

3G would be great on SIM 2. The problem I'm trying to solve is that our Australian telco ( Optus ) has severely degraded its own mobile network, to the point where we can't receive voice calls anywhere in our suburb. LTE used to work well, not any more. On the other hand, they improved somewhat on their 3G network. My wife is still in contract with cheap plan. So I could arrange a dual-SIM where SIM 1 is on 4G with another telco, while SIM 2 stays at 3G with the old telco. Things may improve for their network, or the company is going down, we shall see.
4G/3G is how it does it.
Both will support 4G but you'll need to put the switcher setting on your homescreen so you can switch quickly - you can't have both on 4G but both will support it. The other will be able to use 3G.

U.S. carrier connectivity

Having received the S8 from Gearbest , and inserting a new Mintsim sim card I have been unable to get a data connection using the current MintSim APN settings. I am not a real phone teckie but I almost believe there are no options to make (via engineering mode) changes to get the phone compatible with U.S. carriers. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Not sure if updating the modem.img is an option. I don't see too many US carrier phones using the MTK6750T processor. I just get 2g edge on t-mobile. Not a bad phone if I could get 4g.

I have considered buying one of these phone's myself as it does look rather nice
This phone supports bands
2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
3G: WCDMA 900/2100MHz
4G: FDD-LTE 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz
AT&T vs T-Mobile (Mintsim)

There is a comment about the Doogee Mix 2 regarding support on the at&t link which shares the same bands.
I do not live in the USA so cant really comment too much about what does and does not work.
