Hello so i have Galaxy S6 that does not have original firmware... surprise surprise..but i have been wondering about something.
Lets say that Samsung makes official android 8.0 oreo for galaxy s6. So how do i upgrade to it because i have custom rom called frankenstein os
...but i also have a twrp made backup of official samsung firmware that i can restore but the reason that i am not using that firmware is that its
really laggy bcs of something, i rooted the phone barely unbricked it and the official firmware is almost unusable to me...ah and yea i don't know
is it going to be able to install the update(android 8 if it comes) without the stock recovery that i also have. I am afraid of flashing stock recovery back because i had that "brick" problem where i could not flash anything through odin not even twrp. And is it possible to flash stock samsung firmware when it comes out from twrp? Like i download it from sammobile and can i just flash it through twrp? And can i flash now android 7.0 (official) from sammobile with twrp bcs odin does not work to me for some reason.
Thanks for your time
Short answer? No.
Lomg answer? You'd have to flash the firmware using Odin. Or wait a bit after it's released as someone should be able to make a flashable version of it (or even better - a flashable debloated deodexed version of it). That all is off course IF it gets released for the S6, which is unlikely, at best.
Best hope is it gets released for a phone that's similar enough to be able to port it, such as the A8 2016 - that's what people are hoping for, currently.

Also, you seem to face an error I had. When you flash a firmware using Odin, make sure to go into recovery and clear cache, as well as Dalvik, and then try to start it up.

I'm new to the whole rooting and flashing scene. However, I'm good at following instructions, generally pretty good at figuring out how to overcome unexpected problems, and a pretty quick study. I've got the hang of rooting my phone down pat, and I can flash stock ROMs with no trouble. Unfortunately though, I have yet to successfully flash a custom ROM on my Sprint Galaxy S 5 (SM-G900P). First, I thought I'd try for CyanogenMod, but the CM installer says that my device is not supported, and refuses to work for me. I know it can be done without the installer, but I have yet to locate the instructions someplace to do it manually.
After giving up on CM for now, I found Alliance ROM for KitKat 4.4.4, which REALLY intrigues me with its high flexibility. What's more, it's KitKat, which I much prefer over Lolipop. Ever since I switched to Lolipop, my apps have all started crashing frequently, even after being updated, and even TouchWiz itself has started crashing frequently. I also don't like the new drop-down menu or the new Recent Apps display. So, I flashed KitKat 4.4.4 kernal and then tried to flash Alliance ROM, but I just got stuck in a boot loop. I booted back to recovery, flashed the stock 4.4.4 image again, and tried to figure out what to do to get Alliance working. I went through the entire Alliance ROM thread here on xda, and found THIS POST describing a method to get Alliance ROM working on a 4.4.4 kernal without having to flash back to 4.4.2. After following those directions, though, I still wound up in a boot loop. Now, when I did that, I wasn't able to use the de-odexed version, and had to use the odexed one instead. After waiting 2 hours to download both versions, I couldn't get the de-odexed one to flash at all. It gave me an error message about no md5 found, or something like that. Unzipping the zip file would have given me a bunch of disconnected folders, so I just tried to flash it from the zip, but it didn't work. The odexed version, however, had an md5 inside the zip, so I just unzipped and flashed the odexed md5. Still got boot loop, though, after I tried to install Alliance ROM afterward.
So, with all that being said, here's what I'm looking for.
Either:
1.) A reliable way to install Alliance ROM on my Sprint Galaxy S5 (SM-G900P)
2.) A different custom ROM that might be better suited to my needs. This is what I'm looking for:
a.) Rooted
b.) debloated
c.) wifi tether and USB tether
d.) KitKat Drop Down and Recent Apps menus
e.) Some badass-looking themes. I really like the look of the Black Glass themes from Alliance, so either THAT or something that looks equally badass
f.) I would like to be able to overclock
g.) want to see CPU usage
h.) battery percent
i.) want to be able to turn off camera shutter sound. (Maybe this can be handled by just installing a different camera app, idk)
j.) Working private mode
k.) fingerprint scanner functionality would be NICE, but not a must. I really only use it for Private mode.
I'm sure there are probably other things that I'd like to see, but those are the ones I can think of right now. So if anyone can tell me how to get Alliance ROM working, or has a suggestion of another custom ROM that would include those features, and that will work with my Sprint Galaxy S5 (SM-G900P), and where I can find it, I'm all ears.
Thanks!
So, from what I have read here, and I skimmed most of it, is a bootloader issue. You not only need version specific kernel but bootloader as well. You're issue might be that you have a kit-kat bootloader trying to flash lollipop or vice versa. Your best bet is to Odin the Official stock tar of which ever version of custom rom you want to flash, i.e 4.4.2, 4.4.4, 5.0. Then you can reroot and flash the coinciding custom rom. Does that make sense?

Yeah, that makes sense. Where do I find the Official stock tar? Also, if I flash back to 4.4.2, then reroot and flash Alliance for 4.4.2, can I upgrade from there to 4.4.4 without having to flash again? Or do I have to flash stock 4.4.4 followed by flashing Alliance for 4.4.4?
4.4.2 and 4.4.4 are both kit-kat, so you can flash either one. Look in Sprint Galaxy s5 Android development for the tar files

Go with 4.4.2, 4.4.4 had such small improvements, you wouldnt even notice. I recommend M.O.A.R. ROM it is the mother of all ROMS. Paired up with ktoons kernal, its amazing!!!
I was trying to flash Glaxy J710FN with stock ROM using Odin. But it fails at cm.bin and shows 'Complete write operation failed'. Please do help me with this.
I am facing the same issue, I've googled the problem and Its something to do with the wrong baseband version which cannot be downgraded.
I am on supernova ROM and want to switch to complete stock, unroot for warranty.
DId you find any solution?

It has something to do with the USB cable, USB port and the installed driver versions. Update your driver to the latest version. Try using a different USB port, never use a USB hub. And that's it.

Also check whether you're trying to downgrade to a former version of Android which can't be done using Odin. Try getting the latest version of your stock ROM which you can Google yourself.
Thanks for your reply
I tried with different USB port but receiving same error.
Supernova custom ROM is on Android 6 and the firmware that I downloaded are also Android 6
I am completely clueless on how to solve this issue. I've been sitting and researching about this since 2 days now with no luck

You do have a J710FN right. Even though the downloaded one is Android 6 it has got variants as Samsung provides updations frequently. J710FXXU2APK6 is my current basaeband version. If I try to flash an update below this version it shows the same error. So do check your current version and try flashing an update above that.

Hey,
I tried a firmware of SM-J710F instead of SM-J710FN and odin worked.
I got official full stock ROM.
But issue is the boot screen when you first switch on the phone. It is still of the previous custom ROM Supernova. So it appears as "Samsung S8" Because of the custom ROM
Even though I flashed complete firmware through Odin the S8 did not return to stock
I am on complete stock with no root now
How to change the first boot image back to J7?
Thanks in advance

Are you sure you're on J710FN? The problem with the boot image would be that the ROM you're saying stock is a custom one with the S8 boot image. Try wiping all your data including David cache and flash the ROM again. If it's still the same root your phone and change the boot image.
So first off I would say I am average in the world of modifications, I know the basics. I used to run a stock Nougat rom with Magisk.
Being the clumsy fool that I am, I dropped my phone and the screen broke. I went to a Samsung service center and deposited my phone there for screen replacement and they decided to update my phone for no reason...
As my phone was rooted, after forcing an update on my phone a soft brick happened and they had to flash a new firmware which meant that I lost everything. Now I am running latest stock Oreo 8.0.
I tried these things to root my phone again:
(The first thing I did was flashing twrp through odin)
#1: Downloaded Magisk and a decryptor for getting past the locked bootloader... flashed them both using recovery (twrp works 100%), and my phone got stuck on the Samsung S7 - powered by android after a reboot from recovery. Waited for a long time. Tried a lot of alternatives on this method but got stuck..
#2 After I gave up on rooting the firmware I was given, I decided to go back on my old Nougat firmware which used to work flawlessly... so I had the nougat firmware on my computer but this time Odin gave me an error along with some red text on top right in download mode. I looked up the error and it basically meant that I cannot revert back to Nougat anymore (which is surprising as I could easily swap between Nougat and Marshmallow but I can't do the same with Oreo and Nougat)
Quote from a person on the internet: ''SW REV CK FAIL usually means that you are not flashing the most current released firmware version. Most Samsung devices will not let you downgrade. You have to flash what was previously installed or higher Android version.''
#3 I was frustrated. I tried using a last resort.. downloaded a custom rom which has root included called ''Galaxy Project''... Flashed it using twrp and got a bootloop for 2 hours. To get past the bootloop I had to download Oreo stock rom and flashed it using Odin. That worked.. I'm back on stock Oreo again... back to square one.
Please help out a stumped Android enthusiast... I have spent 2 days on this... but no solution works. My phone is not in danger of a hard brick as I can always revert to stock Oreo using Odin but having root would be nice.
I am having average experience, I know just the basics... please help me out and tell me what to do in a step by step manner.. I will try everything and report the findings till I finally come across a method which works.
EDIT: My phone model is G930FD

Hi, I am not for miller with everything and I am concerned about what I did.
I followed instructions to install Android 10 on my S6 and when it failed
I got into a panic and found this download CF-Auto-Root-zeroflte-zerofltexx-smg920f.zip
and not paying attention to 920F I installed it using Odin and my phone worked again
but the screen was inverted to the touch screen and on this forum, I found by typing in a sequence of numbers on the keypad
I inverted the touch screen back to be able to use the phone again.
few days later I tried again...
I then installed TWRP and EvolutionX_4.1.69_zerofltexx-10.0-20200331-0232-OFFICIAL Samsung S6 Firmware
and everything went to plan but I am finding my phone to be slower than before, about a 2 second delay to open things and somethings like
opening the camera can take a long time and sometimes it hangs and I need to close the App and try again & the flash only works if I tap to focus first.
My question is should I change my phone back to 920i or is my phone now working as a 920F perfectly fine?
And if so would anyone know where I can find the CF Root zerofltexx sm-g920i download I need?
I have searched and searched and can only find a full factory firmware of 1.88Gb but the file I used "CF-Auto-Root-zeroflte-zerofltexx-smg920f.zip" is only 33.4Mb
I feel I need to find this 920i download to correct my phone back to how it was. Or like I said should I not be worried about it now being 920F?
Thanks
question here is does it work correctly like this? you cannot fix something that is not broken

in all seriousness, those issues sound pretty experience-effecting, if i were you i would grab a version of odin and the latest stock rom for g920I, flash stock and eventually get yourself set up with twrp and a recent rom which works with magisk.
i do not see any need for cf-autoroot anywhere in my suggestion, but for the sake of information both cf-autoroot and stock roms should be obtainable on firmware.mobi (and if the download seems to be cruelly slow, this little tool used to be able to get much faster speeds for stock roms but I am not sure if this is still the case anno 2020.)

I'm trying to get my S7 to stock. I have no idea where it's going wrong. This all started when I went to get my phone off the charger and it looked like it took a hard crash. Im not sure why either. I can get into DOWNLOAD MODE, and I can reflash my TWRP with ODIN. Whenever I go to flash a ROM in TWRP, it freezes on install, and I have to hard reset it. Anyways, my end goal is to get my S7 back to stock. Thank you so much in advance.
I've managed to get a rom(LightROM) in.. but I am stuck on a BLUE LED and a Black Screen? Anyone got the possible solution to get back to a stock rom? I am actually having a hard time finding a stock rom as well.

Going back to stock is probably the best option, download the firmware from here selecting your country and carrier
Download Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-G930F firmware
Download the latest Samsung firmware for Galaxy S7 with model code SM-G930F. Check out our free download or super fast premium options.

you will have two csc files the csc file wipes the phone whereas the home csc upgrades the software, you would use home if you had a working rom say Android 7 and wanted to upgrade to 8. You want to wipe the phone.

well i went in TWRP and formatted/wiped everything. Would i still need a rom? I feel like something is mad corrupted. Maybe a Kernel? I haven't been successful of flash a room or getting into the OS yet. I just need to get into the phone and have it turn on.
