Hi
A few days ago I decided to, after using Batman ROM for well over 6 months, to try and break free from TouchWiz and also due to the fact that I was getting poor battery life on that particular ROM.
I decided to flash Resurrection Remix Nougat, however I've been experiencing increased battery loss and overheating when watching media in the YouTube app and in-browser. It also gets extremely hot during charging which it normally never did.
Is there anything I can do to solve these issues, and if not, could someone recommend a better ROM/Kernel to flash for better battery life and to reduce overheating.
Cheers,

Ello Folks,
I'm new to this forum and for some stupid reason I can't post within the forum I wanted to, so I hope someone can help me here..
I have been playing with Custom Roms for a long time and I have ALWAYS encountered problems regarding battery drain. I have searched innumerous times for ways to fix it.. I've tried many different ROMS and KERNELS and I always ended up with a massive battery consumption with little use. I then thought it was my battery as the device is quite old so I decided to buy a new original battery and still having the same problem.
I am starting to think that I am really dumb and doing something wrong or maybe I am just unlucky. I got my phone back in 2011 from T-Mobile UK and I am now running JB 4.2.2 Revolt JB I9100 and Dorimanx V9.33 as kernel.
My battery is going from 100% to 0% in like 4 hours. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Batter drain in 4 hours is not normal. But with heavy usage of 3g/4g it can be. As you said you got heating problems too.
So, first with the battery. Install betterbatterystats from play store. Let the battery drain off completely and charge it to 100 in a go keeping data network/Bluetooth/GPS/WiFi in off mode. Check how much time it's taking to charge it from 0% to 100%. Now discharge it off to 0% and Check the rate of discharge. If it's below 5%/Hour you are safe.
But if it is as you said before 4hours battery backup, there must be some trouble.
These kinds of drastic battery drain happens of many reasons.
1. Poor signal strength.
2. Overloading cpu ( which also cause overheating)
3. Any background running apps which utilizing a bunch a data.
4. Bad kernel (we can pick this out as you tried different kernels.)
5. Defective battery.
Or a last chance
6. A hardware failure.
So inorder to find the root cause behind this problem check each of the possibilities one at a time.
In case of cpu, change the governor and I/o scheduler and see.
In case of background running apps, check whichever programs revising maximum amount of battery.
Hope it helps..

Cheers mate,
I am well aware that custom kernels allow me to overclock it and change governors and i/o and that these kinda settings have a major role on how much battery the device will consume. But as I have never really understood the diferences btw them I for once have never played with the values so I have always left 'em at their default value.
The only real reason I've decided to change to a Custom Rom is to get new versions of the Android OS and to get rid of the hideous TouchWiz skin from Samsung..
I am not living in the UK at the moment as got transfered to Brazil for work and I have been on TIM network and they suck badly so maybe cuz their 3G sucks its whats causing my battery to drain like crazy.
But I will definitely follow your instructions and hopefully I'll get a positive result..
Once again, thank you very much.
Recently I've been experiencing absolutely terrible battery life. I lose about 1% every five minutes with the screen on - sometimes even faster - and find myself increasingly unable to last a full (work) day without having to plug in at least once. My current ROM/Kernel are LolliGPE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2716306) and Elite kernel from when I switched from stock Kit Kat back in December. It's worth noting that I haven't gotten around to updating either since their installation. I can't remember how my battery life was back in December nor before Lollipop, but I'm almost certain it was better than it was now.
My questions are:
What ROM/Kernel do you recommend for the best battery life?
Are there any apps I should check for and uninstall that drain battery?
In general, how can I increase my battery life?
Thanks!

1. Rom/kernel combinations in regards to battery life, or pretty much anything, is a completely subjective experience. You're better off trying different combinations for yourself and seeing what works best for you.
2. To see if you have any rogue apps, better battery stats probably does the best job showing what is using your battery. If an app is an issue it'll show you exactly what's causing it.
3. Best way to improve battery life is to monitor your battery stats with a battery monitor and try to control your wakelocks as much as possible. You can Google search exactly what process is keeping your phone awake and fix your problems one by one.
In my opinion, the three biggest things that truly affect battery life is mobile signal connection, Internet connection strength, and Google services such as Google now. Trying a different firmware version could increase your battery life as well as trying different rom/firmware combinations.
I'm running Adrenaline 1.2 with quantum kernel 1.25 on stock 4.4.4 firmware. I'm getting the best battery life I've ever had with that combo. Then again, in bright light where the screen has to run at full brightness and with a less than stellar signal, it will still eat through power pretty quickly. It's just the nature of the beast.
Odd I am stock non-root and see the best battery I have ever had with Android

After experiencing the same problem as yours with the two mentioned kernels, i seek for solution and found one. backup all my contacts, sms, call log, bookmarks, apps then i did a clean install of fluent rom based on sprint port cos i love lollipop and the two devices are similar in many ways. Surprisingly i get 6hours of usage with just 20% gone and at least about 3 -4 h screen on at the same time. so my advice is to try clean install.

Here are Buckmarble's own recommended settings with the Elite Kernel:
Governor: ragingmolasses
Ioscehd: fiops
Read ahead: 1024
UV: -24 across the board
2265 max 300 min
I use Trickster Mod to set these. I have heard that the frequencies don't stick, but I haven't bothered to check because battery life (running Fluent ROM 2.0) is stellar. I put my M8 on extreme powersave yesterday when it was at 100% because I'm testing a different handset and when I returned to the M8 late yesterday evening it was "all the way" down to 95%.
Hey guys, quick question. All the sudden I'd say over the last month or so my battery life has been horrible. I used to go a day and a half roughly with normal use until I had 20% or less battery life. All the sudden now with no changes made to the phone (no new apps, ROM, etc.) the battery life is terrible. I am lucky to get 16 hours with the same usage before the battery is 20% or less. The only change was that I bought a quick charge 2.0 charger (this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QTJZ3D0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 ). I'd say I used this charger for about 3-4 weeks until the battery life was noticeably bad. Is it possible that this charger has actually damaged my battery and if so I am assuming it is irreversible since it is a non-removable battery? Thanks.
I have also noticed this.. but since I hadn't left it on stock ROM but for a day or so.. I cannot say that it is the new firmware or the ROM I'm using.. I have also seen a LOT of posting about this issue.. LP 5.x.x has a few bugs that are pretty bad headaches to deal with.... hopefully fixes come out for these issues... mainly (in my case anyway) battery life and data connection speeds

Thanks for the reply. I am using CleanROM 3.0 KitKat, been using it for a long time now and all the sudden it's bad now. Like I said, no changes made, I'm stumped
hi,
I already had a thread some months ago, I was thinking qi loading damaged the battery but ordered a new battery and it changed nothing.
later I noticed that the battery runs normal while not playing. I can use the phone for 2-3 days. but while playing after 30-40min the battery ist down to 20%. (mostly hearthstone / rayman)
it's a second hand phone and the old owner had a custom rom running. right now I'm on stock. I would like to know if you could messed up something what can't be fixed by just installing everything clean and stock?
I'm not sure but the display seems also completly like new, but the backcover is messed, like he changed the display, could there be errors while changing display which cause this problem?
hi, I'm back here again.
still can't find a solution to this problem. I don't know if it's unusual because compared to some youtube videos it is.
I run antutu completly stock and got 55.3k antutu while it drained 8% of the battery doing that. could there be some permanent changes even if I'm completly stocked like changed volt table? even if the phone is flashed stock afterwards?
Hey,
I've been using a Samsung QI charger an my N5 for a while now and recently noticed that my battery has been draining faster then before. I don't usually play a lot of games in this phone but when watching videos or playing music for a while the battery dies fast.
To begin with I thought it might have been the battery bug bit it isn't, I checked the location settings that drain the battery and the WiFi scanning interval but they're both off/ not the cause for the battery draining fast. I even went as far to changing the batter to the one I have in my other broken n5 but it didn't seem to change anything and I know that battery herd a charge good.
Now I'm thinking it may be a bug in my ROM (Resurrection Remix) or too many background processes.
I installed Multirom and broken is and the battery seems to last longer so I may have fixed my issue.
You may be able to find a solution in one of the things I tried. Good luck!
PS Rayman is an awesome game!
Hi everyone,
I've been using Moto Z4 Verizon version with Visible about 1.5 years now, generally speaking without any issues with the stock ROM and no rooting or any other software changes etc.
For the past couple of weeks, I've notice the battery running out faster than the average times I've used before. For example almost %30 of the battery would drain overnight whereas it would only be %3-4 before.
When I check the system battery statistics there is no one specific installed app draining the battery, so I am not sure if the OS background is using the battery more than necessary.
Has anyone have experienced something similar? what would be good trouble shooting steps?
Thank you in advance!

Try putting it into safe mode overnight, if battery drain is reduced it's an app you installed.
