that is a no go. they do not work on blv4. failed. tried all the odins out there. raymondf and prince, none work. just fails. it is signed but isnt for the s8. someting is failing. most of the time i see it fail like it did is files are not for the right model. i am on sm-g950u originally a sprint branded, now uicc unlocked. i was going for root, but cant get this evem to flash. any advice?

Did you try using the patched 3.13 odin?

Hi, thank you for feedback. Again checked file. Installed and it's working with Baseband V G950USQU4CRE9.
You need patched Odin version.

Got it. Trying now. I have the raymondf version and prince version. Neither of those worked. I have seen this bbb version floating and did not try. I will now. Thank you.

It works. Downgrades to nougat but is permissive. Playing with it now. I have an extra s8 to use as a tester. Got it to boot into factory binary. Everything is there. Just navigating and exploring what I can do now. Trial and error now. Much much appreciated. From what I have already done, you can carrier switch, so playing with it now. Thank you again.

our factory binary will always be nougat never will have one oreo hence the FA70 7.0 FA60 is 6.0 and FA80 is 8.0
S7 had FA60 s8 FA70 and I believe s9 has FA80
root is blocked on v3 binary so more than likely no root for this one either

For CSC modify you need a G950W (Bit 4) CSC file. Only then it's possible.
If i'm wrong please tell me. =)

[Firmware] G935UUEU4API3 Odin Files & Modded Odin

I know there's another thread for this but it's an absolute cluster F*** to make heads or tails of. I wanted to simplify things.
Simply download files, download modded Odin and put files in proper slots in Odin.
This is will give you stock U firmware with the latest PK1 modem. Root isn't what it used to be so I don't bother with it, please don't ask me for root files and instructions of this firmware.

Here's the modded Odin that I used. This is from the root thread and never once failed to flash anything on any device I've thrown at it: http://d-h.st/gsDA
Thank you for simplifying this process.
You're welcome. I'm here to help.... The other thread was too much of a mess!
Thanks joe3681, for all of your efforts.
Where online can I find a list of updates or a version history for the Samsung S7 Edge (T-mobile)?
so this will work with the latest update from November? and also what are the benefits of U firmware? I haven't been able to find any good info anywhere. i have rooted and flashed before lol i just haven't been in the game for a while
U firmware seems smoother, it's bloat free. Only real downside is no advanced messaging.

No, the U firmware is still the September security patch level. It's so much smoother/faster though. Especially rooted.
Thank you so much, this was obviously 100x easier to follow than the other thread.

I followed the O.P. in the post root issues thread, doing nothing more and nothing less than what they said to do. No lag, normal temperature.
Thank you
OP thank you for the easy to follow instructions. I just bought my SM-G935T from ebay. I noticed some lag with the S7 Edge and of course all the Samsung and T-Mobile bloatware.
I flashed all of the files then did a system cache wipe. I have not noticed lag so far and now have 20 GB of the 32 GB free.
One question though. Where will the phone check for updates? Will it get updates from Samsung or T-Mobile?
TWRP help
.
I just got my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge and have been doing a lot of reading here on XDA about this device. I have had all the galaxy's since Galaxy II.
I have rooted / custom recovery / custom ROM all of them. I know there basically is not much out yet as far as ROMS go for the S7e, but I would like to instal
TWRP and root the phone. I can not seem to get a straight answer as to how to do this exactly. Each "How-To" that I run into are a little bit different and scares
me a bit. If you could help me with any answers or links to my question(s) I would sure appreciate it.
1) I would like to odin into the phone the latest TWRP but I am not 100% sure which file to flash.
2) I would like to ROOT the phone if it is fairly safe at this point in development, but again I have heard of at least 2 different methods to do this.
3) Please advise on which file to use and/or method. My phone DOES connect up with my PC just fine via USB and I have ADB working also.

@fl_gator_dad, it will check with Samsung. Mind you they dont update this as often as carrier versions release their incremental updates

Hello,

it wont work on this one ? I did a little more reading and found this

Well if you continue searching and reading some more, you will see that twrp only works on non locked bootloaders. Any carrier driven Samsung device has a locked bootloader and twrp will not work. We have the snapdragon and not the exynos. If you need to have twrp then you need to get an S7 edge Exynos version. There is no working custom recovery for the snapdragon version phones as of yet.

Thank you. That is a shame. I would think, incorrectly, that the unlocked GS7 firmware would be the baseline to build the carrier firmware.

Yeah, you'd think! The international is the one that gets everything first.
The unlocked firmware favors T-Mobile though offering T-Mobile customers features that other users don't get.

Root for Canadian S8+ SM-G955W variants (Working Root Method)

So there's quite a bite of confusion for the canadian SM-G955W variant . Was wondering if anyone can clear some stuff up for me.
Is there a Root method, for the SM-G955W S8+ ... ??
and can u link it if there is...
None of the CF Auto root **** seems to be working . any info would help.
sorry for being a noob...
*UPDATE* , ok so , Threw some research on here and on youtube i have managed to Root the s8+ sm-g955w canadian Rogers variant (rwc)
For all My fellow Canadians , follow this video to a T and it will be easy. ->
Also, Head over to sam mobile. i have linked the SM-G955W S8+ firmware for u , This is your back up , just to be safe, (nothing happend to me all i needed from this firmware package was the CSC an the systme image from the AP file) - >
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G955W/
Be sure to Follow EVERYTHING this guy does, Honestly took me 2 hours , to pause every 30 seconds to just make sure over an over that everything was correct, So , with that said, If i need to show proof on my phone that this works here yah go
Root proof SM-G955W canadian variant https://imgur.com/gallery/Tgz4o
Admins please lemme kno if im not supposed to link anything i.e. youtube videos, please delete it, i apologize ahead of time,
with that said, Theres no more confusion , the SM-G955U root method works for SM-G955W (ROGERS)(RWC) carriers, havent tried with bell or not even sure if it matters tbh, .
Cons so far :
1.The phone will not show charging nor charge when it reaches 80 % battery life, (SMALL ISSUE TO ME)
2.And im not sure if the CSC file is whats making my bixby Fudge up. But im going to try to flash the CSC file from (XAC) variant from sammobile. an see if that fixes it, or if someone knows that Bixby is done when you root , please comment so i can include that in the cons, lol
I tried messin around a little. After a few apps. One of them read this
Root https://imgur.com/gallery/ScXsQ
Im going to assume this is the reason bixby wont work either. ??
Thanks XDA staff an devs, for all the support an help when i asked. Fu*kin bangin job on this community

im not 100 percent about carriers , but the model of the phone is what matters just before you start the rooting process head over to sammobile, an make sure they have the TELUS variant, u need to match your radios, ect. youll see in the video, theres, a files you need to extract an flash to the phone with flashfire, thats the file you need for your carrier or else youll be stuck with a us variant an if that happens i think you may get hit with roaming charges , but other than the carrier bro, im positive u can do this same root method if sammobile has your correct files, btw, u may wanna start the sammobile downloads an hour before u start the root, lol , i made the mistake an the free download speed for sammobile is no more than 15mbps so even with my 1000 mbsp "gigabyte speeds" with rogers it took almost 2 hours, lol gl bro, an enjoy.. p.s folllllow the instuctions to a t bro, pause the video as much as u need, u dont want a paper weight,

Before I root Rogers S8+, has anyone fixed this 80% battery charge and Bixby
I have yet to find anything on the web Google or YouTube on my situation. I have a Rogers Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus SM G955W and I keep getting the update pop up for Oreo. I do not want to upgrade as I'm fine with nougat. I made sure before all of this in developer mode auto updates was off. One day the pop-up came up and I accidentally pressed the update button. I quickly paused it and it's at 2% but it keeps popping up to keep downloading. I have backed up my full phone but I'm looking to find out how to backup the OS so I don't have to use a computer.
I don't what to update at all.

No fix for the battery yet. As its a Samsung image file. So not sure when or how it will be patched.
Also Bixby is still not working. (I fu*kin hate Bixby) use ok Google lol.
Other than that. Once you root. You will not receive update notifications at all to update phone.

It is a very common but completely incorrect notion that rooting will trip Knox. Root has nothing to do with phones turning 0x1. The only thing that can make that happen is flashing and booting an unsigned kernel. Since that is impossible on locked bl it's impossible to trip

Yes, I have tried that ROM & its Odin flashable
Can i flash this on the SM-S550TL?
Has anyone tried this on the SM-G550T1 model?
Will someone reupload the file for a better download link? Sammobile takes way to long
Really, the SM-G550T1/2 really needs Nougat at this point since it is only limited to the India model... I really like the new UI elements. Sad.
Or if someone is really good enough to make a Android Oreo Go edition custom ROM (since it really helps on storage) or a Lineage OS custom ROM. I wish i can make one but I'm not good at making ROM's.:crying:
Edit: I was thinking of installing that same rom OP described. Will it work for my T1? Someone needs to test this before i can proceed. Problem is i don't know if it will brick my phone because it was made for Indian devices running that version.
The current device i have is as follows:
Galaxy On5 SM-G550T1 (T-Mobile)
Currently on 6.0.1
Rooted with Magisk
OEM Unlock set to ON
TWRP
I dont know also, but do i need to have my phone network "unlocked" to switch official samsung roms? I prefer sticking to T-Mobile...
Edit #2: Tried installing that firmware file, it wont let me because of a locked bootloader. I used Odin (latest) but all i get is a "SECURE CHECK FAIL: (BOOTLOADER)" error.
^tl;dr, it wont install on a US variant.

You can use sam frimware tool to download the ROM with no bandwidth cap issues. Search XDA for the tool

I found it. It is legit. I just used this to fix my phone after flashing a factory test image. TWRP 3.2.2 also works with the newer bootloader it contains, which is v4, as does root. I also have a permissive kernel from the test firmware. It could be useful. Don't know if it can boot the ARG2 firmware though. I will upload the permissive boot image if anyone wants it.

Dont use sammobile. As fullofhell or @jacksummers told me,
use updato.com as they have all firmwares, you can downgrade if you wish.

These one custom kernel awhile back but no permissive kernel that I've ever seen ! Sorry !
Thanks! and Network question
Thanks! I was able to install the rom and all is well on wifi. I am however not able to get on the virgin mobile data network. Which carrier did you test this on? Any advice for flashing to a virgin mobile phone? It seems to be on Spring but not able to get to the VM side of the sprint network.
Thank you for your time!

In search of firmware. In particular, does anyone happen to have combination firmware or eng boot file (they could link me) for the Samsung J7 2018 Verizon, binary 3 version?
Thanks in advance, a Goog Search provided nothing but scammy lookin' pay sites.

I no longer have the phone but from what I recall (and can see on my external drive), I found the firmware using the samfirm tool.
https://samfirmtool.com/samfirm-v0-3-6
If not familiar with it there's a few good guides to follow. Google samfirm-guide
Some may say it's deprecated but it still worked for me. Have used it a few times of late.
Still looking
Still need that j737v u5 combination file if anyone
update ........ https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KjiWivA3A0EUqUeVTp-lV4stGtUXslX0
change to a .tar file will work flawlessly
