How to enter to the recevoery? PX5 Oreo JY-UOS01P4 - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

Hello,
i have Joying px5 with fabric Android Oreo with only touch buttons and RESET and POWER switch, and still can't get into the recovery.
I try all of these ways:
3. How Do I enter into recovery menu?
Depending on the HeadUnit, the entering into recovery process could vary.
Reset Button Procedure (You need a needle to access that button inside the Reset hole)
Applicable to:
HeadUnits with no physical buttons on Headunit (just capacitive buttons) [Brands: Dasaita]
1. Press Reset and hold until button light blinks (15-20secs)
2. Release Reset and press again. Hold it until you see the Marshmallow logo
3. Release Reset and wait for the Recovery menu to appear
Power Button Procedure [Brands: Dasaita]
Applicable to:
HeadUnits with physical power button on Headunit [Brands: Dasaita]
When none of the above procedures worked:
1. Disconnected all power from the unit... ACC & BAT disconnected
2. Prepared 12V power supply with on negative and two positive connectors
3. Connected negative to GND & one positive to BAT
4. Connected USB keyboard
5. Press right ALT (ALT GR on some keyboards) and PrintScreen
6. Connected the other positive lead to ACC (unit does not work if both BAT and ACC are not connected)
6a. Start pressing repeatedly on E (not holding E pressed, but press...release... press... release..... rapidly)
7. The boot logo shows (MarshMallow...etc) and after a few seconds the unit reboots itself
8. Release right CTRL & PrintScreen and continue to repeatedly press on E.
9. The Recovery shows on screen.

After i making so many combinations i can do only the black screen with Joying logo counting 5...4...3...2...1.. and it reset, when i make combinations reset+pwr or keyboard pressing "e" it do it again - only counting.
I think when it's countig it is the time to press something to enter to the recovery, but which key?
Thanks for your suggestions

Button combination to enter recovery mode on Xtrons HU

Does anybody now how to get into recovery mode on an Xtrons HU? I tried every combination I could find and I've already been in there but can't remember how I got there. Xtrons support is horrible. They just sent me a video showing a factory reset procedure when I asked for the combination.
I have that one:

In my device also dont know how to enter recovery mode. So installed ROM from settings

You installed malaysk new ROM for our MTCD units via the settings menu or another ROM?
malaysk rom
1. downloaded his rar file
2. unrar
3. copy .img file (dupdate.img) to my sdcard for maps
4. in settings clicked check update (rom is installing from recovery after auto reboot)
btw. Have one problem (i think that its problem with I cant wipe data and cache) u can find it in malaysk thread (last my post).
I have an Xtrons HU as well. I'm not sure the exact buttons to press to get into recovery, but I have done it, so it's possible. Try holding down power button until it totally powers off, then keep holding it until it starts to reboot, eventually you might get in.
On my Xtrons, it doesn't like dupdate.img name, and preferes update.img... but for whatever reason, it gets an error during flashing malaysk's rom, and reboots back to stock rom. I need to look more into it... it seems like it is flashing rom, but at some point an error flashes by too fast to read. I only tried it once so far, will again when I get more time to play.
On my unit, I tried the combo power/reset without any success. Before I read up on this, I did however get into recovery once by accident with just the power button. So after playing around with this more, I can get into recovery consistently doing this:
1) Hold power button until unit turns off and (on my unit) light flashes.
2) Let go and then press the power button again. This somehow shuts off the unit since it would normally just reboot after releasing the button it seems.
3) Press the power button again to turn it on. It should hopefully go into recovery.
I have no idea if this works on other units, but I have not seen a description of this in any of the posts/videos I have seen.

same to me. XTRONS HU, got into recovery by the same method but then, cannot flash. The unit is a GS.
Did you make any progress?
da_anton, did you ever get into recovery mode? I have the Xtrons PF75ATTA which looks the same as yours. After changing the /system directory to read write and adding 3 lines to the build.prop file. The unit only showed the car navigation lollipop screen and the android/car logo.
I have tried almost every combination of power and reset button. How did you do it in the end?
Thanks

Yes I managed to do it. First I would recommend you have a really silent place. You can hear some very quiet sounds at different stages. At least I could.
I managed it that way:
press the power button till the unit is off. I can hear a sound like a "plop". But very quiet. That is my indicator that the unit is off now
release the button. You should now hear another quiet "plop" when the unit is turning on again.
wait maybe 1sec or even more to press and hold the power button again.
the unit now enters recovery
It took me a while to got it working so you have to try it a couple of times.
Thanks, I managed to do it, took me about 20 minutes. I have to say I couldn't hear the noises you were referring to but just knowing the process worked only on timing and the power button narrowed down the possibilities. Thanks again

It worked on a Xtrons PB76FSFAP-S.
Thanks.
Just installed Oreo on my px5 Xtrons unit. (Mine doesn't have physical buttons minus the reset button).
From any point...hold the reset button for 25 seconds, let go of it...when you see the boot animation press the reset button again (not hold).
You will have to use the reset button as the method for going down through the menu...then hold reset button for it to choose the item.
Worked for me.

Xtrons PB7646BAP Recovery
On the Xtrons PB7646BAP:
I tried everything mentioned in this thread. Nothing worked because my unit does not flash lights or make a "plop" sound. As long as the the car ACC is on, the lights on the unit are on. There is, however, one way I can tell if the unit is on or off after pressing the power button -- by the hissing sound from the speakers.
1. Hold power button down until you no longer hear speakers hissing. Then release button.
2. Not fast, and not too slow: Press then release the button. Then press and release a second time.
3. Unit should come up in recovery. If it doesn't, repeat above.
This sometimes doesn't work. Sometimes because I press too quickly or too slowly. You will have to do it a few times to get the feel of the rhythm you should use.

The seller is no good. Only problems with him. I am in dispute with him becouse the screen is cut of almost 1cm at the botom.Ifvyou have any other seguestion i am all ears.
I wrote this in another thread, but you can try this method.
1) Hold power button to turn it off (about 5-10 seconds).
2) Let go and shortly afterward (1-2 seconds) hit the power button again. This should keep the unit off and prevent it from automatically restarting.
3) You can then hit the power button again to turn it on, and it should go into recovery

If your unit is anything like mine, the rst (reset) button does nothing to get you into recovery. The post by vnamee (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67552738&postcount=6) works for me. My unit does not have a recessed power button, it's just the volume knob.
Also, ignore step 3.

After many attempts its works thanks.
To save thread space: (I came across this when I wanted to get into recovery mode but it didn't have my info)
I have a Joying RK3188 2-DIN 1024*600 unit. It has a power switch on the side (push the volume dial) and a res button recessed in a paperclip hole.
You don't actually need to use the RES although perhaps that's another way to do it.
To get into recovery mode hold down power. After ten seconds you'll see backlit keys blink three times quickly. Continue to hold the power key for three more seconds (I counted 1 Mississippi. etc because it's a little tricky there) Then release power and press it again normally a single time. Don't hold it this time.
Wait for the recovery mode to come up. If you see the joying or car icon you've booted too far and you need to retry. The three seconds after the blink seemed to be the key to it.
Before your flash I would practice rebooting and getting into recovery a few times so you know you've got it down in case something goes wrong.
this worked for me as well on my unit for chevy cruze. I just had to put my key on accessory. then 10 secs , 3 more seconds then push power one time.
I have a HotAudio MTCD unit and this has worked for me everytime.
Turn on your lights so that the hard key lights are on. Hold the power button for approx 10 sec until you see all of the buttons flash 3 times. Keep holding the power button for approx 3 more seconds, then release and immediately just press and release it again once. It will then boot right into recovery.
I have no idea why they made them so complicated to get into recovery mode with the 5.1.1 versions. All the old 4.4 versions it was simple as reset+power, let go of reset and hold power button. These new ones are much more tricky and you have to get the timing just right to get it into recovery. Usually takes many attempts for me to finally get it into recovery mode because I do it so rarely.

I can't create new thread but have similar problems with Opel/Vauxhall Astra J headunit.

MTCD GS 5.1.1 rk3188 Recovery problem

Hello guys!
I have an MTCD GS V1.34.1 rk3188 on android 5.1.1
- First thing I can't get to the recovery mode.
I tryed with RST button and Power button together, after 5 sec released the RST and 2 or 5 sec after released the Power one but nothing always booting the android system... I don't know how I can do it ...
- Second I seen on the forum someone have the 1.6 GS MCU version but I the download link dosen't work anymore. If someone can upload it again it will be nice.
- Third, I want to try the Malaysk rom, is this ok with my system?
If you want pictures or anything else, just ask.
Thank you
P.s: sorry for my english. On the picture you can see my system version and behind my HU.
I answser to myself and for others in the same situation :
I tried like vnamee way:
1) Hold power button until unit turns off and (on my unit) light flashes.
2) Let go and then press the power button again. This somehow shuts off the unit since it would normally just reboot after releasing the button it seems.
3) Press the power button again to turn it on. It should hopefully go into recovery.
Didn't work too....
I tried on rebooting and holding the power button, didn't work too.. Everything I've tried didn't work.
So I tried to update from settings ... and it worked !
But I don't know if the MCU will work by this way ...
And like I said, I don't have the 1.61 version, I just found the 1.49 for GS but I'm a little afraid to try it ...
Now I have just one or two questions:
-How can I install maps or GPS app at the GPS Card? Because when I install it (Navigon or TomTom Go) I can't choose to install on gps card or external card ... I only have Cancel and Install.
-And second one, I'm living on France, so I want to know if I can have native app. like Autostart and stay in french or english because it's in Russian ...
Tank you
P.S: Always sorry for my english
so you just used the system update button in the settings? That's how that Joying BoyKa guy does it in the YouTube video, but that was for a Joying build. Wondered if it would work for another ROM Too
Exactly.. It was the only way for me. Now I have some truble with TomTom and connection problem ...

based on the "GS" I assume yours is not a Joying model, but I read on the Joying forum people were having problems with Tom Tom too
Yeah it's not a Joying ... It's an unbranded I think.
I bought it on aliexpress (

For tomtom I found a way on the forum to get it work.
But now I'm trying to move it on the GPS card ...

In my personal experience with a Joying MTCD 5.1.1 unit, the only way to get into recovery is this method, the reset button does nothing. Additionally, the third step does not work. Performing only steps 1 & 2 allow me to access recovery.
So:
1) With unit ON and at least booting, press and hold the power button (in my case, this is the volume knob) until the lights on your unit turn off (if they were on) or flash. Once they flash, keep holding the button for another 5 seconds.
2) Release the power button, and press quickly once more (within 1.5 sec) do not hold.
3) Wait. The device should boot into recovery. Do not press any other buttons during this process.
Hopefully this works for you, otherwise you may want to check some other instructions involving a reset button.
It finaly work by this way ...thank you
Hold the power button in until the lights on the buttons flashes. When the lights stop flashing, quickly release the power button, then quickly press and release the power button again. After about 5 seconds the unit will boot into recovery.

EDIT2:
Slowly I think it's because of the Android version, or better said the manufacturer has no idea, I wanted to make an adjustment and crashed again. Let's see how long it will take me to fix everything up, I hope that an experienced developer can get in touch here in the forum and make the software usable. Thanks

I have noticed the following (as driven by 1st answer above) :
While powered on, hold the reset button until the screen goes off and the buttons start blinking
Then release, then push once more (the buttons color will change, blue in my case)
Then just wait ?
As written on the recovery screen, cycle menu by pressing the reset button, activate the entry by long-pressing the reset button. Touch buttons are useless
If I do the same while powered off, it just reboots
Hope this helps
Erisin Recovery instructions
Erisin Reset Instructions. Erisin 7886 PX5 Head Unit (LM Model MCU)
Note: All actions at Own Risk ! All Care No Responsibility.
For Erisin 7886 unit (but instructions may be useful for others)
Note: Power Button is on top LH Side of panel.
Reset Button is a micro switch within a recessed hole on the top RH side of the panel and looks just like similar recessed holes in the other corners of the panel which is a confusing PITA.
A plasticised paperclip (slightly thicker than a normal paperclip & easier to grip) with one end twisted out at a right angle to form a handle with the other end forming a reset pin works best – accessing the reset micro switch is fiddly and seems rather fragile so I found the paperclip better than a mobile phone reset key etc. for easily triggering the switch without mashing it or fumbling about).
Note: For any PX5 Reset on any device it seems you have to press a combination of power / reset keys 3 TIMES in the correct sequence to trigger the Recovery mode – the combination of keys seems to differ between models (some posts indicate 3 presses of reset keys, some 3 presses of power button, do a Chicken Dance, etc. the Erisin 7886 PX5 uses both Power and Reset keys – Go Figure) - but the 3 Times Press requirement seems to remain the same.
For the Erisin 7886 (and probably some other models)
• Hold the Power Button until Head Unit buttons & Panel Lights start Flashing – (I found this can be done with black (bricked) screen or on start/restart or while head unit is on and running normally with no ill-effects).
• Release Power Button as soon as lights STOP flashing (about 2-3 seconds), then Immediately after (within 1 second), Press the Reset Button using Paperclip and hold down for 1 Second, Let Go of Reset Button, - wait 1 second then Press Reset Button Once Again for 1 Second, then release Reset button.
• Wait. System may go blank for about 2 minutes or so, or even longer for a bricked unit trying to recover. Go away and have a coffee. Do not press any other buttons. It should then go into Recovery
Mode.
• If you have an SD or USB card in the slot the unit may go into a weird multicoloured recovery screen looking like something out of The Matrix. Do not panic, remove the SD card and it should then go into recovery mode. It appears to be trying to reboot off the card but removing the card will allow it to resume its’ normal operation.
• Experience is that if does not restart, then button press timing/sequence is wrong, (i.e. released Power Button before flashing sequence completed, took too long between button presses or held too long, pressed extra buttons afterwards – anything like this can upset the sequence) - or the machine needs an opportunity to reset by having the power removed altogether for a while. Turn ignition off - pull keys out to completely remove power from the unit (often remains on ACC if keys are left in) and wait for ½ hour.
Appears Head Unit retains memory for some time and re-powering just resumes where it left off in its’ stuck state if it has not rebooted/recovered or left off for some time.
Hope this helps - Good Luck.
I also have the same issue with an Erisin Stereo , its a PX5 so perhaps a different thread is necessary
I remember getting into recovery mode when I updated the original stock firmware by simply holding the power button until the lights flash on radio knobs ( there is no reset switch on this model - as far as I know )
However suddenly my unit is stuck on a bootloop , simmilar to the OP of this thread , after using the Hal9K android 8.0 Rom for some time .
I have contacted the Erisin for some help with the issue , to try to go back to stock .
Attached is an image of my device

hi
the email you enclosed has instructions on how to reset to factory settings.
1. Press the power button and the reset button simultaneously (with a paperclip, for example), and hold for 10-15 seconds.
2. Release the reset, but continue to hold the power button for another 5 seconds
3. Release the power button
after this the device goes into recovery mode
If anything, messaging me on Telegram at @Ruslan_73

I have the same problem with
Erisin ES7908U 7" 1 Din Detachable DAB+Android 9.0 Car Stereo (rk3368)
but now I have the problem, since I logged in at the PlayStore that it has a bootloop, I tried some combinations from the manufacturer (10-15 sec. On/Off + Reset, then Reset release and On/off then 5 sec. On/off) but nothing helps. I hope someone can help me.

*EDIT
Anyway, the radio started. But still it would be good to know how to get into recovery.
Device INFO
EDIT2:
Slowly I think it's because of the Android version, or better said the manufacturer has no idea, I wanted to make an adjustment and crashed again. Let's see how long it will take me to fix everything up, I hope that an experienced developer can get in touch here in the forum and make the software usable. Thanks
EDIT3:
I found this page and will see if I can get firmware or help there. If someone can speak Russian here from the forum I would be very grateful for the help.

I'm Stuck in Recover Mode Menu (PX-5 MTCD)

I installed "Quick Reboot" application from Google Play Store and select reboot in to recovery mode. My MTCD device rebooted in to recovery mode and i can see the menu. Problem is buttons are not working in this menu. I tried every button. So I can't exit from recovery mod menu.
If I turn off the engine and lock the car and wait some time, after that I enter the car and turn on the engine and i saw see recovery mode menu again.
My main concern is if this device is stuck at recovery mode menu is it cause my car run out of battery after some time?
What should i do?
Did you try to push reset button ? It's navigate in recovery menu...

Nope, it won't.
What physical buttons do you have?
What other threads have you read about this issue and tried?

My unit is Android 6.0 version of "https://tr.aliexpress.com/item/32857277792.html". It doesnt have any physical buttons except the one which car already has. "https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Ok_J6oQRLQw/hqdefault.jpg"
I was able to control selections in recovery mode the last time I upgraded to another firmware(If I long press the power button it was selecting an option, if I short press the power button it was changing the selection). And than i updated newest version of MCU. I think new MCU broke this.(My device is from Witson, and i was used MCU update from Witson.) But today, if I press the power button in recovery mode it's turning screen off. If I press it again it's turnning screen on.
My device has a small hole in front of it. (I thought its a microphone.) I tried to push a needle to it to check if its a reset button. Nothing happened.
I think I should disconnect the battery of the car and reconnect it so my device will reboot to firmware normally. After this i will revert back to older MCU and I'll enter recovery mode again to check if buttons are working.

Edit: I will try to push a needle from that small hole. It looks like there is something behind that hole. https://pasteboard.co/JheL6Ck.jpg Red thing in the left side of screen.
Solved. I disconnected battery from car for 1 minute and reconnected it. Device rebooted in to firmware without any problem.
