I searched other threads on XDA and other sites, I found 1 or 2 other users with this same problem, but none of the steps I tried worked for me.
For the record I was using an AT&T compatible SIM before with straight talk. I got LTE service consistently.
Also, I rooted my device with Magisk, so if you have any unorthodox solutions feel free to be creative with me.
The straight talk website claims there doesn't need to be APN settings setup for the phone, but I realized that is a lie. Here are my current APN settings:

I tried changing the APN numerous times. I attempted ACCT.TF.GW6.VZWENTP, ACCT.TF.GW16.VZWENTP and TRACFONE.VZWENTP. They all give me data, but only 3G.
For the APN type, you can tell I tested it out to death. I figured maybe that is why I cannot get LTE service. For the record I can't type in "dun" as the APN type, it gives me an " does not allow adding apns of type default dun" error. I read somewhere that if I use the Tethering Enable Magisk module, but I tried that and still cannot use dun as an APN type. I'm not even sure if that has anything to do with why I don't get 4G.
I used the LTE Discovery app to see if my phone is at least recognizing any LTE towers, but nope. It's almost as if the app doesn't work.
Finally, I tried calling straight talk. No luck. They are morons.
I'm aware that very few people probably have straight talk, so I'm not expecting this thread to get attention any time soon, but anyone that does see this, help a guy out. Lol.
Thanks.
These are the settings from my wife's Moto G6 using straight talk Verizon. Some of it I have never seen before in an APN, but maybe there is something in there that will be helpful to you.

Thanks for the info.
I forgot to mention, when I try to add "dun" to the APN type, it says "carrier does not allow adding apns of type default dun"
Also under bearer, there is no submit button. I believe it's a software glitch. Because of the lack of submit button, I can't adjust the bearer settings.
Ok. Don't add dun. But I would add mms. Also, I don't recall using bearer in the last. They should stick by just checking the appropriate one's right?
Also, the APN itself should help.

I tried just using "default,mms,supl" but I still only get 3G data.
In your screenshot, your wife's phone shows separate options for bearer. Hers doesn't have "unspecified" marked like mine does
Bearer might not be the problem, but I'm troubleshooting.
Ok so first off I use three Pixel's, all have bootloader unlocked, Magisk (although that has no relevance I have learned) and two of the three are running stock (mine is running Resurrection Remix) and all are on StraightTalk working on Verizon's network.
Since 8.1 none of the three devices activate properly after wiping and flashing a monthly update. Sometimes I get the 3g most of the time it won't activate data at all.
My fix... If I need to do a full wipe then I go back to the last 8.0 version (Nov2017 I believe) and flash it, let it boot and it will activate and you'll have LTE data. Next take the most current 8.1 full version (not OTA) and edit the Flash-All.bat to remove the -w and 1 space. Save it and run it and it will update to the latest without wiping and without forcing activation and you'll maintain you LTE data.
Now recently I have wiped and loaded Resurrection Remix on my device and it activated correctly right away and have LTE with no issues. I am not a developer so I don't know the details of why that is but seemed to work for me. If you opt for this route make sure you follow the directions for loading the rom but I did mine with the sim out for the whole process.
Hope that helps!

Why do you have 3 pixels?
Well it's good that you do, because you know a little more about how Straight Talk works with the pixels.
I tried using RR. I decided to bite the bullet because Google's stock OS seems lacking. I'm now getting LTE service, cool!
Therefore it must be a software issue. When I get tired of RR I'll revisit your option of going to 8.0.0 and updating to a newer update and editing the Flash-All.bat to remove the -w and 1 space.
Thank you

Yeah the why is because we have mine and the wife and daughter both have one but since I have to manage them and the updates I decided they get to have what I use, makes it easier on me as I am not having to chase down answers to problems with three different devices.
Good luck...

That's why airlines usually stick with the same plane types. So they only have to have parts for one type.

I have no idea why, because last weekend I tried it and it told me I needed an expensive data plan. Since this is my first android device, I really don't know my way around it yet, but I spent years loading new ROMs on my old WinMo phones.
The two possibilities are:
1. The phone finally recogniozed my unlimited data plan, and decided it was OK.
2. I did install "AT&T myWireless" from the store afgter my last wifi fail.
Anyone with greater smarts of android PM me, and we can decipher what made this work right.
BB
Neither of those sound like a reason why. You cant have unlimited data AND tethering. In order to have tethering you have to go to a tiered data package. Sounds like AT&T may have screwed up your data or something. I would call them
Double checked my plan- it was not automatically upgraded to anything new or different.
I did roll my own APN to get the data plan working- could that be it?
APN=wap.cingular
Proxy=wireless.cingular.com
Port=80
[email protected]
PW=CINGULAR1
MMS Protocol=WAP 2.0
MCC=310
MNC=410
HMMMM. Looks interesting..
If you had to enter your own apn then there is definitely something wrong with your plan. Sounds like they didnt give you the right one

Just try it. Work for me too!! (BTW, I skip the proxy)
I have the unlimited plan too.
Nice discovery, just tried it myself and works for me, too. I suppose this shouldn't be too big of a surprise since the software supports tethering natively (plus HTC includes a tethering app). I imagine the preset apn requires AT&T to authenticate your account, and the standard apn you provide above does not. I'm curious if the apn has anything to do with network speed (ie. will using the above settings limit your data to 3G speeds when 4G is available)?

Does this work? At&t won't be charging us extra for this apn?

my experience has been without the MediaNet APN you won't have the faster speeds can anyone else verify? In other words if getting tethering working is as simple as editing apn then we should keep it to ourselves
The reason you can use the hotspot feature right now is that you added a new APN. If AT&T changes your plan to unlimited 4G in their system, you don't have to add a new APN. The problem with that is that it disables the hotspot feature and you get the "not included in your SIM" message, unless you get one of the tethering plans. Also, the problem with adding a new apn is that it may disable H+ when is eventually turned on.
Jus tested it and it works, nice find. Was hoping it enabled hsupa, but nope.
Still a nice find until I get around to rooting.

Can you switch back to the MediaNet APN when you want to?
Yes, you can switch any time since you don't replace the MEdia Net apn, just add another.

I set it up and it works for me too. Awesome, just like I have my Nexus one still! Hopefully this will stick around, I figure that since this is the APN iPhones are hooking to when they start supporting tethering we can kiss this goodbye.
I tried it and it allows me to turn on the mobile hotspot feature but quickly disables it. I don't get the message anymore but it disables before I can connect to the ssid. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!

I am in White Plains, NY
I used this method successfully. I noticed no speed differences between the MEedianet and this new APN. Now granted, the speed tests are sporadic as hell, but overall I see no difference. Best speeds for both MEdianet and new APN I get are about 2500 Kb down and 380 up.
Now when I tethered via the wifi my laptop got about 3000 Kb down. I also tried tethering multiple devices, had 5 gadgets hooked up to it, (It'll allow up to 8) all connected to the net at once and they all were quite usable.
Now all I need is a better upload speed and to get rid of bloatware and I'll be happy. I'm just not interested in going through that rooting gold card **** dance yet.
I'm getting the same issue as mj0528, it'll come on and then quickly turn off. Is there something i'm missing or doing wrong? am i suppose to name the apn something specific? everything is exactly the same as you guys posted it. I also have the 4g unlimited data plan.
I just got the One S, I'm trying to use the tethering function but when I connect a device it forwards me to a Smartphone Mobile Hotspot Screen and a link to buy the service. I tried uninstallen the Mobile Hotspot app but its still shows the same ****. Does anyone know what to do to enable tethering on a One S from T mobile?
I think you need to add the $15 tethering package from T-Mobile.
I can connect my G2x without it but not my laptop.

Currently the only way I know of to get tethering working without paying for it is to root the phone. Then download wifi tethering for root users. Goto setting and set the device to "Generic ICS" and enable routing fix.

Has anyone tried the non-rooted route for tethering?

Roundabout
While I don't understand the technical aspects of tethering a phone, I stumbled upon it when I installed CM7 on my HTC Glacier. Since it was located in the settings area of the phone, I assume that it was the official implementation by Google which was removed via carrier and put back by the great folks at CM. While it may seem the most tedious, if you can find a custom ROM that supports it out of the box then it'll be free (in regards that your carrier won't charge an additional fee as long as you stay within your original data allotment) and it'll probably be the most elegant and stable solution.
Also of note, is that if you tether the round about way, it might work for awhile, but eventually you'll start getting redirected to a T-Mobile page to sign up for a tethering service. You need to change the user agent string in your browser to show that you're using a phone.
Moved To Q&A
Please post all questions in the Q&A section
Think it sthe SIM
I think the microSIM APN section is locked. I would love if someone who understands the new SIM can explain.
I have the Amaze and was able to edit the APN's on it. But not on this One S and the new Micro SIM.
Don't think it has anything to do with the micro sim. My micro sim is just my old sim cut down.

This isn't working for me, both stock APNs were already set to epc.tmobile.com and I still get the redirect to purchase the $14.99 addon. I don't understand this because my previous Defy and HD2 had no problem sharing thier connection using stock apps on non rooted roms and my data plan wasn't changed when I got the One S. (I'm on the $20 2gb unlimited plus plan).
Figures that this would pop up after they bought my old phone. Given that they claim not to be able to return it, all they can do to put me back to where I was is setup the tethering addon with a corresponding monthly credit. Tech support opens in 3 hours, though I doubt I'll have much luck without loudly complaining at one of their busier corporate stores.
Way to go Tmo!!!!
Ok here is an easy Step-By-Step. You will need to buy and download SQLite Editor from the play store ($2.99). I have tried a few different free editors and could not get any of them to work. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.sqleditor&hl=en
I did not come up with this fix, I'm just detailing how to do it, with images. If anyone knows who is responsible for finding this fix, please let me know and I will add they're name here for credit.
Same always, I am not responsible for boot loops, bricking, overheating, tornados, flash floods, alien attacks, or angry girlfriends. Use at your own risk.
Step 1: Open the SQLite Editor app (approve root privileges) and navigate to "/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/" and then click on the "settings.db" file
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 2: Click on "Global"
Step 3: Click on the + icon in the upper left corner
Step 4: Leave the _id field on (auto). In the Name field type "tether_dun_required". In the Value field type "0" (the number zero). Click SAVE.
Now just back out of the SQLite Editor app and then reboot your phone!
Perhaps someone could sticky this for easy finding?
Nice, but you don't identify what the problem is and how this fixes that problem. What is tether blocking? Is this something that the carrier imposes to restrict tethering?
Yeah, what is this supposed to fix?
Does it mask tethering data?
Does this somehow hide tethering from the carrier?
On the nexus 5 alot of people on T-Mobile (sprint too I'm told) have trouble with the Wifi Tethering, either it doesn't work at all or it redirects you to the Up Sell Website to buy a tethering plan. From what I've read, Android flags all tethering data so that carriers can know you are trying to tether. This bypasses that issue and allows tethering to work. As I said though I did not come up with this fix myself, so maybe the person who did can enlighten us all a little better as to exactly what this fix does. All I know is that I could not get Wifi Tethering to work before I did this fix.
I do not know for sure that it masks tethering data, but I would assume it does since people were getting the upsell website before applying this fix, and then after this fix tethering works fine...
edit: I'm on the T-Mobile $30 a month plan (100 anytime minutes, unlimited Texting and unlimited Data)
After searching around on Google I found this information regarding the TETHER_DUN_REQUIRED string. http://www.androidjavadoc.com/2.3/android/provider/Settings.Secure.html
static String TETHER_DUN_REQUIRED
Used to require DUN APN on the device or not - defaults to a build config value which defaults to false
So it would appear that there is a special APN that your get routed through when trying to tether. Setting Tether_Dun_Required to 0 bypasses that APN and uses the normal data APN for your carrier just as if you were surfing the web (or whatever) from your phone.

I re-edited settings.db, re-edited my APN to IPv4 (I had to do it twice to get the value to 'stick') and re-booted and WiFi hotspot now works on my Nexus 4
Cheers
UPDATE: It didn't work the first time because I hadn't changed the ownership of settings.db back to system after editing it.
just an FYI https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.htsoft.sqleditor&hl=en works just fine and it is free
I've tried installing SQLite Editor a few times now and it FC's every time I open it. Are others having success with the app on the N5/4.4.2?
You could do this via command line without an app, as long as you have the sqlite3 binary:
Code:
su
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
UPDATE settings.global SET tether_dun_required=0;
Note: will only work if column already exists...
Thank You
This was very clear and easy to follow. I can now tether on T-Mobile with my Nexus 5, thanks!
I currently own an AT&T Galaxy S4 Active and planning to buy a Nexus 5.
I've always thought that the Nexus 5, IF purchased directly from Google, will NOT have any carrier specific restriction apps, including tethering. But it seems that this applies to even Nexus 5 bought from Google?
FYI, my AT&T Galaxy S4 Active is using stock ROM but I have no restriction on tethering, even though I did not sign-up for data tethering.

Yeah, I am surprised T-Mobile actually is actively pursuing this.
On my AT&T S4 Active, I didn't implement the solution provided by OP but AT&T never give me any grief, given that I've been tethering for a long time.
I just got a Nexus 5 (4.4.2) from Google (not T-Mobile) and coupled this with my T-Mobile SIM (I have Simple Plan - NOT $30 plan), I did a tethering test. Started tethering on my N5, connect my MacBook Air and...voila... it works.
I don't have to do the SQL editing per OP. Is this because I have a Simple Plan? Thought I have no issue with tethering, just wondering...

Hi All,
So I have some info that will hopefully be useful and I also need some help. I am specifically trying to flash the Boost Moto G for use on Seletel.
I have updated with current Selectel PRL (actually tried several), and have updated with my MDN and MIN. Phone just says searching for service. Any suggestions, tips, or success stories? Thanks!!
Here is some Info that is known but sort of spread all over the internet.
Boost Moto G (XT3031)
-The bootloader is unlockable via Motorola Website https://motorola-global-portal.cust...e/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a/action/auth
- Root works, I used superboot via this guide: http://www.modaco.com/topic/366771-root-your-moto-g-option-1-superboot/
- You can get your SPL/MSL from boost. Some have reported just calling them and asking working. Also they just give it to you on the last page of their activation via the boost website.
- if you need PRL's or other info, this thread by Viper32 has some great info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270191&page=7
any help would be greatly appreciated. And thanks to everyone else who has been working on these things!
Thanks!
-Cedar
outside the obvious have you updated your MEID with selectel?
what did you use to set your PRL, MDN, MIN?
How did you your get MSL code? From what I've read calling them or the activation method don't work anymore. The SPCUtility app works, though I have my doubts about why it needs network access to do so.

its whats on my main selectel phone and works fine. but I also tried several others, none of them have worked.
-------
MDN and MIN
I'm using what my selectel dealer gave me when I activated a new account for the moto g
-------
MSL
I got the MSL code from boost, they gave it on the last page of their web activation process
It works fine, I can edit settings on the phone with CDMA workshop and DFS
thanks for the reply
DIAG driver help
Would you mind share how you install the DIAG driver? I installed the MDM, but it doesnot install the driver once the phone is in DIAG mode. My OS is win7 64x. Any idea will be really appreciated. Thanks.

This worked for me also on windows7 64x. sorry for the delay in response been at work.
after you have MDM installed
make sure USB Debug is enabled on phone
boot phone to fastboot
-turn off phone
-hold vol down + pwr buttons and phone should boot into fastboot
select BP Tools from list
-phone should reboot
plug it back into your computer, if it isn't already, windows should try and install more drivers, but will fail.
go to devise manager
-right click on Motorola QC Diag
-manually update drivers
-browse for drivers on computer
-select driver from list
-manufacturer Motorola
-Motorola QC Diag Port
this should get things working, you can also change the COM port form the driver properties in the devise manager if you need to.
hope this works and is clear, I'm getting ready for work so a bit rushed. let me know if you need more info.

Thanks a lot. It works out perfectly. But I get the phone to the DIAG mode by dialing ##DIAG#.

When I try to get MSL by activatting the phone through boost in the last page without paying for it, my phone has been activated, and assigned a phone number. If you got your MSL in this way, your esn might have been set in boost database. You may call boost to deactivate your phone and release your esn. Hopefully it helps.

yeah you can get to DIAG mode with ##DIAG# as well. bit easier for sure if you already have your MSL.
yeah I was wondering if that might be a problem, but it seems like I would at least be getting some service bars from verizon towers. also after boost activated it, I activated it with selectel and they had no problems. I think that would auto deactivate the ESN with boost.....at least that's how its worked for me in the past.
but thats a good thought, thanks!
I changed some settings around and now I'm getting bars for service but my phone says "No Service". same thing if I try and make a call "Mobile Network Unavailable"
I checked to Selectel and my phone number is active and attached to this phones ESN.
any suggestions?
#EDIT#
ok I got it working! I had just messed up some of the system pref settings. running my moto g on selectel now! at least the phone part, haven't really messed with data yet.
thanks!

Good luck with data-- the boost variant has the HA and AAA key field locked down/read-only, so you're never going to get anything above 1x. No matter the password or the SPC code, those nv items are not able to be altered except OTA... at least for now.
Interesting, I haven't really messed with it yet. Others report getting 3g to work on the boost version just fine. But like I said I haven't messed with it

Let me know what you figure out with data. I know it can be done. I'm thinking of picking one up to mess around with. I wouldn't mind paying someone to flash but as much as I swap around phones I'd go broke. Rather just buy the instructions for the more tricky parts.

3g is working great now. getting good speeds and its not intermittent at all. for some reason when I only had 1x working it was super intermittent.
anyway I've been hesitant to write a "guide" because this is the first phone I've flashed and I definitely did a lot of trial and error. there are some steps where I foolishly changed several settings at once, and admittedly have no idea if they all needed to be changed or if just one of them made the difference.
also its still not 100%, I haven't gotten MMS or viocemail notification to work. haha. I'm using the apk from @Viper32 in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270191 for voicemail notification but it never worked for me. and I just downloaded 8sms from the play store and changed the settings, but still no MMS, even when not connected to wifi. so I'll have to mess with those things later.
anyway I didn't use a donor phone for data. the only programs I used where trial versions of cdma workshop, dfs, and qpst. I think the step that did the trick for 3g was using qpst to write 10.key to a new folder called DMU.
1.connect phone in diag mode to your computer
2.open qpst configuration, make sure your phone port is there and phone is active.
3. open efs explorer from the start clients menu
4.on the Left side of the efs explorer. right click and go to new > directory
5. name the directory "DMU" without the quotation marks then
6. place the 10.key file into that directory by drag and drop then exit qpst
i think those are the steps that gave me 3g after everything else was flashed but maybe others have more info!
thanks
cedar
for MMS have you tried verizon's app from the app store? I initially used it and tested MMS and it worked.
I changed the apn settings under ##data## and then tried the stock messaging app for MMS and it worked.
MMSC = http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
Port = 80
Proxy = null
as for voicemail notice. it doesn't work and I don't think its going to work. i think this has something to do with some of the system sprint firmware and differences in the voicemail notification message sent between sprint and verizon networks.
I use youmail app from the app store for voicemail.
I'm having some trouble getting better than 1xRTT data after trying the 10.key into DMU folder trick.
Do you mind posting some of your NAM/Data/Mobile IP tabs from DFS? (with private info crossed out)
Would like to understand if the options I have on/off/selected are in the ball park.
Here are my settings to achieve 1xRTT

@cpuspeed thanks for the info. good to know about voicemail notification. those are the settings I have for MMS. I haven't tried loading an actual APN file, I was just changing settings in ##data# and in the sms program itself. so maybe I will try that.
@imkey EDIT: sent you a pm with my settings. I could also post it here if people want. but I really have no idea if my settings are correct. seem to be working though.

I just picked one up at target for 79. I am going to mess around with it. If will try and put up a guide also to help out if I can get everything figured out and organized. For 100 bucks or less this would be a great phone to get a guide for to help some do-it-yourselfer's out.
I am willing to pay for help as I need this fixed right away. Paypal, Google pay, whatever. It is after 10pm (22.00) where I am so anybody that is free now would be most helpful.
I have an XT1250 Moto Maxx that supposedly has an unlocked bootloader and is carrier unlocked but it appears that the radios are either disabled or the software is not loaded. I am currently in Europe and I need this phone to work. I prefer the stock ROM, the one from Cellcom is quite clean and fast and works so much better than my Verizon Droid Turbo (XT1254) did. If I have to change ROMS I will, but prefer not to. If I can just some how upgrade or change the radios I would prefer.
I used to be much more active in rooting and changing ROMS, but that was years ago and I am quite uncertain again of how to do so. I would love to get on a chat session with someone that can walk me through getting my radios to function.
Here's the deal.
XT1250 Moto Maxx from Cellcom. Worked perfectly on Verizon. Not connecting at all in Europe (Finland Elisa). I previously owned a Droid Turbo from Verizon (XT1254) and that connected just fine here with the same exact SIM card that I am trying to use in my Moto Maxx. The phone recognizes the SIM but does not connect to any towers. In fact it claims it can't see any at all. I've tried all network types but nothing is recognized. SIM card is active and functioning (using currently in my Moto RAZR I).
Model Number: Moto Maxx
Android Version 4.4.4
BAseband Version: MDM9625_104335.118.02.54R,QUARK_CUST
Kernel Version: 3.10.40-perf-g82972e2
[email protected] #1
System Version: 21.11.11.quark_lra.LRA.en.US cellcom
Build Number: KXG21.50-11
Anybody willing to walk me though to open up the radios? I am not asking for free help unless of course that's not allowed on these forums.
Ok, my timing appears off. I need to get to sleep, so if anybody is able/willing to offer some help/guidance my email and/or Hangouts is mikieg18 at gmail. Thanks.

There should be a menu -- maybe in "Mobile Networks" or "More" -- where you can choose the type of bands your prefer to receive.
If you can't find it, you can always download one of the many "Hidden Menu" apps that will show that. I like this one:
Secret Phone Info
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kfinn3&hl=en
________
Click on "Hidden Menus"
{

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
________
Click on the Universal Menu.
_________
Go to this setting, click to open.
__________
A menu will pop up with like a dozen choices.
Your phone probably has LTE/CDMA chosen. You need LTE/GSM.
(There's many, many other choices not shown this screenshot. That screenshot just shows a few of the bands choices (it scrolls), but that's the default choice in my Moto Maxx so I recommend that one.)
____
When you choose that other setting, see if there's any "apply" or "save" setting you need to hit. After that, reboot, and see what happens.
Wow, you are in Finland and have an XT1250. You would be perfect for @Skrilax_CZ to get the info he needs to get CM12.1 working on this Quark phone.
Is your carrier CDMA or gsm? Did you do anything? Check chazzmatt post to see if that works

He needs GSM. He PM'ed me about the same time he posted this thread, and mentioned that. I just went back and quoted that part of the PM to make it more clear...
The ability to choose is still there, it just refuses to locate anything. When I choose GLOBAL, it won't even give me the option to choose a network operator, if I choose LTE/GSM/UMTS it allows me to choose a network operator but it just searches and searches to the point of locking up my device once the screen goes dark forcing me to reboot and then it gives me the message on reboot that no operators can be located.
I installed that Secret Phone Info app and here are the screenshots from that:
If I take the same SIM card and place it into my RAZR I, it connects immediately with Saunalahti (Elisa) the Finnish GSM network I use here. And I know the phone has the ability to communicate with the networks here as my previous Droid Turbo (XT1254) worked for the brief time that I had it here.
So this is why I think the the CellCom software must be blocking the radios somehow but I am not knowledgeable enough to figure that part out. I just know from what I've read here that the bootloader is unlocked so I should be able to 'unlock' any and all radios that are internal to this device. That's where I am stuck right now.
Bah, I just took the screenshots without the SIM card in there. I forgot I removed it. I'll reload and take new screenshots.

Try changing to LTE/GSM, not LTE/GSM/CMDA. Just to see what happens.
If that doesn't work, then unlock bootloader, root and try that...
Forget it, I cannot even run that app anymore with the SIM installed. It just locks up constantly searching for a network. Its driving me nuts.

If you are going into the Mobile network section and are manually searching for network, don't do that. STOP searching for a network. Go to APNs (Access Point Names) and choose the one you want.
When I search for a network, half the time it never even finishes the search. Even though I use AT&T and I get a strong signal. I just go into APNs and choose the APN I need.
But if you mean when the SIM card is in, it's automatically searching, then use the app without the SIM card. Choose LTE/GSM, reboot, THEN put the SIM card in.
I just want you to change the choice that is already there (LTE/GSM/CDMA). We know that doesn't work.
Also, besides using the app, you have gone to Access Point Names and chosen the correct APN?
