Bluetooth problem with 5.1.6+ (5.1.5 was fine) - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

When I got the phone, it was 5.1.5 and it worked perfectly. After 5.1.6 - it's a mess.
Issue:
When you have a smartwatch that can act as a Bluetooth phone (make and receive calls through the phone, as a BT headset would),
for example, my Huawei Watch,
and then you get into a car with a BT car kit or just activate a BT headset,
it connects as "Connected (no phone) , and you cannot use it as a phone.
Alone, the car kit or headset work fine.
Long story short:
Watch - works
BT headset - works
Watch + BT headset = fail
Disable one or the other, and the other works fine.
This has been an issue with Pixel phones since 7.0.2 OS update and to this day. So it's a Google issue.
This has never been an issue with Samsung phones - they know how to fix Google coding incompetence.
This was not an issue with 5.1.5, but was introduced in 5.1.6+.
Is this fixable in future updates... please?

I know you have 5.1.6(+) listed, but have you installed 5.1.8 yet? Just curious. I don't have this issue nor can I test it, because my LG Watch Urbane can't receive calls on the watch

Yes, I have 5.1.8 and it's broken still. I think the issue is having two devices connecting that can do Bluetooth phone functions - the second one fails with "Connected (no phone)." I had this working fine on S6, Note 7, then Pixel XL had it working but broke with an update - never worked on P Xl again. Then I checked it on S9, and it was working. Then this phone with 5.1.5 was fine too. Then 5.1.7 update happened (skipped 5.1.6) and it broke again.
The workaround is to go to BT settings, click on the watch and disable radio button for phone audio. So you can never receive calls on the watch or initiate calls on the watch and use the watch to talk (the audio goes to the phone.)
This kinda works but also sucks, because you know how it used to work so much better.

Idol 3 Bluetooth + Wifi while driving or changing Wifi

While driving bluetooth stops or some time lag voice if wifi is on. same issue noticed without wifi enable also but very less.
It seems whenever wifi changes to different network or connects or disconnects bluetooth is loosing or lagging voice.
Where as if i put it on speaker i can hear sound from speaker. I tried 5-6 different bluetooth and having same issue. i got replacement of phone also but same issue with new phone also. I could verify with older phone and it seems issue is only with Idol 3. Is any one else facing similar issue?
I tested this using a Bluetooth headset, and I am unable to replicate it. Turning WiFi on and off has no noticeable effect on playback via a the Bluetooth headset. Unfortunately , I have no way to test this while driving .

This issue is mainly happening while driving. It seems like while driving phone tries to goes from LTE to different modes and same with wifi as it tries to connect to different wifi. In this process it starts to lags voice on bluetooth and in few cases sound get disconnected.
Are you listening to music on your phone or streaming?
I haven't had any issues while driving using both Google music and slacker. Those are the only two streaming apps i use tho. I leave my Wi-Fi on all day. My deck is a Bluetooth pioneer unit, though the model number escapes me at the moment. I'm on T-Mobile BTW.
I don't drive anymore but I stream Rhapsody overnight onto my BT speakers and it never has conked out on me yet. There was one time I did lose the BT connection to the speakers before I did the factory reset but no issues with the BT since.
Issue is not with listenting music, it is during call through bluetooth while driving and having wifi and bluetooth both on.
OK I'll test that later on today. How often/with what frequency does it happen to you?

Almost 2 out of 3 attempts i am having this issue. even now in home i started call on bluetooth when wifi was off, then just put wifi one during call and voice from bluetooth started to get blurry and then other party could not hear me. and i had to disable wifi and then disable bluetooth and then on bluetooth again in phone.
Seems like issue is happening when phone is trying to connect to wifi and call is on bluetooth...

I do not have Netflix - but I tested with HBO Go - and YouTube - with airplane mode , WiFi and Bluetooth - And I am not seeing any audio lag - or audio interruption when switching from speakers to Bluetooth mid session. I am using Arctic P253BT headphones.
Alright I did a call today. It was only 5 minutes long but didn't notice anything. I'll try doing what you did starting a call in my driveway and turn WiFi on/off repeatedly at various time intervals.
I got replacement, but i can still see the issue with new phone also...

Sorry, my testing is put on hold as I had to send the device in to get a new screen (cracked). I couldn't get it done before because my wife kept stealing my car
I'm having kinda' the same problem. The thing is everytime I connect/disconnect there's a general lag in the phone! after one minute or so, it starts working ok

It's possible the bluetooth is unreliable because the phone gets busy as you indicated...I posted a couple of apps in the idol 3 apps section that help reduce lag and may help this...
Something I've done has made my bluetooth totally unreliable....whether linked to car or home phone system I can answer...talk for a few seconds and then it transfers the call back to the cell instead of the bluetooth device. I'll have to go back through my backups and find a version that doesn't do this.
I have demonstrated the same effect with my bt device (lg). When switching wifi networks bt microphone stop receiving so other party cannot hear me and the audio begins to break up and lag. I can switch off bt then back on and am fine till next wifi switchover. I was hoping the update from Alcatel would address this, was not the case. ;(
I also had the same kind of issue while listening music in car using Bluetooth, strangely it is happening when the WiFi try to connect to open WiFi available. And when that open WiFi is not able give internet accesses, then the phone just get stuck for some time. I have these issues frequently I need to restart my phone
I just purchase Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 and and am having similar problem. I had a Plantronics M50 connected and people complained that I was breaking up and they couldn't hear me and it happened on my end sometimes too. When I'm calling someone, the ring will be normal at the beginning of the ring and then it will fad out at the end of the ring. Store rep told me this was normal. Has never done it with any of my other phones. Bought another bluetooth to try to determine if it was the bluetooth or the phone. Bought the Plantronics E50 and the same thing happens. Alcatel says it's the bluetooth and Plantronics says it's the phone. Betty at Alcatel also says the Plantronics bluetooth are not compatible with the Alcatel, however, the store sells the Plantronics Marque II to use with the Alcatel. Anyone have any suggestions or having the same problem?
I'm having the problem in car on bluetooth where the caller sounds like they are underwater and garbled and I'm told I do too. It comes and goes, very frustrating. I tested another Android and no problem.

There's a problem with the phone. It happened after the last Android update. My bluetooth was fine until marshmallow. It's so bad I went back to my Galaxy S4. I loved the Idol for just about everything, but horrible bluetooth. People can't hear you, it's a deal breaker.

bluetooth no call audio pixel

I used to be able to hear calls and media whilst connected to bluetooth in my car. one day it just stopped working. media still works but when i make a call or receive one, there's no audio. calls ,audio, and contacts are all checked in bluetooth settings. i've forgotten devices, rebooted, reconnecting, and nothing helps.
bluetooth connects to everything fine, but no call sound over any accessory i try. got a new car and it won't work in there either. i'm on android 7.1.2 .
searched all over and plenty of people are having these issues but none of the posts i've read solve my problem. any help would be appreciated
Hey hey, I have a 128GB pixel with the same issue. I actually opened a case with Google support today about it. about 3 months back, only phone audio stopped working in my car. I was hoping the 8.0 update would fix it but it did not. I have a 2017 Honda Civic LX. I tried everything on my phone - even factory reset. Media audio works, I can play Spotify just fine but when i get a call, I can not hear the other person and they cannot hear me. The phone indicates it is connected via bluethooth... I'll try to update this post with what they find.

128G pixel here. This happens with every Bluetooth device I connect it to. 2 car stereos, 2 speakers, and a headset. All worked fine and suddenly one day... Didn't. I was hoping O Would fix it with all the Bluetooth bug fixes and changes they implemented.
Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
Darn, so the issue is a bit different. Mine works fine on a couple of other speakers I have.
Did anyone ever solve this? I've got the same issue, but it effects *all* my Bluetooth devices, but only when I am switched to my secondary user profile.
I've reset the phone app but no dice.
My phone will say it is connected to the Bluetooth device for the phone call. If I switch to speaker or phone and then back to Bluetooth, it works. Anyone else have similar?

Hi!
After hours of Googling you are the first I found who has the same error.
I have a Lenovo TAB4 8+, my kid wants to use Zoom and his Bluetooth headset but only the speaker and mic on the tablet works. I tried fresh install, without luck:
There are 4 type of users:
- Owner (primary - this is the only profile which works for calls on bluetooth headset)
- Standard Users (secondary - bt headset only supports listening: Spotify etc..)
- Child (bt headset only supports listening: Spotify etc..)
- Guest
The bluetooth headset is working with other devices, but not with this one. Unfortunately I have no other android device which supports multi-user.
Moreover, there was an hour when bt call worked from secondary user, but couldn't find out what is the problem.
Can anybody help me on this?
Best regards,
Karoly

bluetooth audio not working with my car

Hello,
After the Oreo I had issues with my bluetooth syncing properly to my car. I drive a 2017 Corolla iM and never had issues with my music bt audio syncing before. My phone calls with my b.t works just fine . But music apps like Spotify / Google music doesn't work. I found a workaround using my aha radio app that came with the car and played my music with b.t through there just fine. So I know it's not the music apps problem . My girlfriend iPhone 7 bluetooth with Spotify works just fine, and it syncs into my car. But I don't know why mine stopped working.
Thanks,
N9900229
You're not alone. I too am having the problem. I hope Google fixes this soon. If not, sad to say I am probably never buying another Pixel because this is ridiculous.

Hey, I found a workaround. Basically using my old nexus 7 tablet with Spotify and my pixel with hotspot for my tablet and then listening onto the n7 device. both bluetooth are turned on with n7 for music and my pixel for phone in my car options. You can use any other devices as long as it's not Oreo.
Would flashing a custom ROM fix this?
It's very annoying. My Volkswagen Golf (with RNS 510 Version S) will connect automatically with calls, but to get bluetooth audio streaming working, I have to manually disable bluetooth and then reenable before it will be seen by the car.
Prior to 8.0 this worked automatically.
At the moment, I have A Sena 20S for my motorcycle and an Plantronics headset, and if I activate Google with either one, using the buttons or just hitting the google MIC button, no audio is heard by the phone over the Mic.
really causes and issue for me. Any idea if there is a fix, I also made sure that Bluetooth Headset is set to on. No go. Frustrating, I ahve 30 days, if this is not fixed, i will need to send it back ..
IM sure its just a patch, but when?

bluetooth oreo issues

I thought I read somewhere that people were having issues but I couldn't find the thread.
Issue is that after update, the Bluetooth in my car won't sinc over the artist and title anymore. It plays fine, I just have no clue what song is playing. Haven't had a call yet, so can't vouch for that as well.
Anyone experiencing issues with Bluetooth on Oreo?
I believe it a Google problem have the problem on 6p 8.1.
Mi Band 2 worked flawlessly with Nougat and suddenly after the Oreo-update, I have to reconnect it a few times in a week manually or it won't send any data to my phone.
It works great in my car
Just switched to Oreo and now my Garmin watch will not stay connected. Drops in an out or just does not connect at all
Wifi & Bluetooth not turning ON
Hello, Im having problem with my mate 9 MHA-L29C636B191 it somehow disabled wifi and bluetooth,
I thought at first it was just the update to B191. Last night i got the Oreo update using Data and succeed upgrading but still my Wifi and Bluetooth is not turning ON. Should I go to a service center and request for a replacement Wifi &

Bluetooth connected to car. Audio works but on calls only I can hear the caller

Hello all
I switched from OnePlus 5T to the 7 Pro. So far everyting is very nice but one thing is very strange. When I connect my phone to the car everything seems fine. I can listen to music and it feels like always. But Yesterday I received a call and noticed that the caller couldn't hear me. I heard him but thats it. I tried then to call someone else and the same problem appeared. I saw some workarounds with delting the devices and check if Audio is marked in the settings but everything is fine on this side. All options are marked. Any inputs and help from your side.
I am currently on Android 10
Cheers
Same issue. Only workaround i currently use is to click on previous connected device and it connects the car to the phone everytime. Just takes 2 secs, but it makes you wonder if anyone actually tests these updates fully before release
