Galaxy Tab 2 Won't Boot, HELP! Want to Backup via ADB? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had my trusty rooted Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for years. It's a T-Mobile SHG-T779. It does not have an external SD card installed.
But now, whenever I boot I get a popup "Unfortunately Google Search has stopped". The touchscreen won't respond to commands and after about one minute the tablet then attempts to reboot, but gets stuck at the SAMSUNG logo unless I press and hold the power button, then it reboots again.
Luckily I can boot into recovery, and even better adb connects fine!
I'd like to backup the contents of the internal storage but I think adb on the Tab 2 series is old because I can't get backup to work:
Code:
>adb backup -apk -shared -all
Now unlock your device and confirm the backup operation
This creates a zero-size file backup.ab.
I tried
Code:
adb pull
which saved a lot of files to my PC, but nothing from my internal storage.
Can someone please tell me:
1. How do I fix the boot problem?
2. How do I backup my data (images, videos, docs) from internal storage with adb?
EDIT: Additional Info: I recently updated SuperSU, and I have Stericson BusyBox installed.
Thanks!

Thanks, but the T779 doesn't support a custom recovery.
I ended up doing a factory reset.

[Q] Writing to interal sdcard flash (/mnt/sdcard) galaxy s i9000 not possibe

Hello !
I have a big problem with my galaxy s.
Since January i am working with my JPY firmware quiete fine. On sunday the phone rebooted without anything done by me. Afterwards my homescreen was empty.
Most of my apps are not working now. So i have done a wipe. Nothing, the same. Interesting is, that all my data was still on the device. Then i try to format the internal sd. Not working, no error message. When I delete all files and deinstalled all apps, everthing was gone. After a reboot all data is back on the internal sd as before.
OK then i tried to flash different 1 and 3 file firmware versions with odin(also with repartitioning). But no version is really working and i never get to the homescreen. So I flashed the JPY back. Then everything is like before my first steps. All data is on the phone, i can not delete anything.
I tried do delete the storage also with recovery mode. Nothing.
I tried with adb (android sdk), deleted all files in /mnt/sdcard. After a remount all data appears back.
What can i do to get my phone working ? I have found no possibility so far.
Thanks in advance for your help!

try to update it using kies or if u have latest version then try flash your device using odn flasher
Thanks for your help harmandeep45. But all this is already done. I worked on this issue little longer and can say that there is some unrepairable problem with the internal sd. I can not delete any partition neither with adb (parted /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 rm). When I do a print everything is there. I am able to mount and unmount the partitions. No problem. But it is not possible to reorganize them. Even if i write on the sdcard partition, after a remount it is as before the write. Maybe the flash memory is broken. Does anybody had the same issue? I already tried the things written in this post, but without luck : http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-845708.html
I have the same problem, i had installed another firmware on my sgs and start throwing me program errors I had before in my other firmware and when it comes to memory I saw that the folders that were there had not cleared and when I trying to delete the folders and files reappeared.
Ok, what i have tested is to flash different firmware versions. Nothing worked. I used the debug console adb to log in and tried to delete the partitions from /dev/block/mmcblk0 with parted. Nothing happens. I am not able to delete them. I don't want to send the phone to the samsung service, because there is important company data on it, like emails, banking, ebay, etc. I tried to mount it in Linux as usb memory device and used gpartet to create new partitions and overwrite all with dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb1, but after reboot everything was like before. Is there any other possibility to delete the flash???

you have to flash it with jtag box riff, but I doubt you have one, you have to find a place where they have the box

[Q] stuck in boot loop

I've got my tf300t stuck in a boot loop when i turned it on today. (Ive looked around the forums for this issue already and been able to find little or no solutions that work for me)
I'm using cm10 and twrp. last night i shut the tablet off as usual and go to turn it on today and i cant get past the white asus logo and device unlocked screen.
I can access my twrp recovery menu, wiping dalvik returns a "E:Unable to mount '/data' (tw_mount)" cache wipes fine no errors.
I'm unable to flash another rom or restore from a back up as well.
Fastboot says its working but in cmd prompt it wont list the device. (computer recognizes it and it shows in device manager as android adb interface)
If there is any other information needed I will be more than happy to provide it.
any tips or help is greatly appreciated.
thanks in advanced.
I'm not yet very fammiliar yet with TF300, but from SGS 1 and ICS I remember one trick. If you have external microSD pluged, take it out or of you don't have it plug it in and then enter TWRP.
It probably won't work but you can try anyway.
Does TWRP have any file browser? I'm using CWM so I don't know much about TWRP.

Yeah it does have the file browser, upon initial booting i can browse an sd card ( i have a few of various sizes none seem to to be having any affect) and i can browse the internal storage as well. Booting both with and without the sd card in the device still leaves me in the boot loop.
So, can you copy new rom to sd card, then copy from sd to internal and install new rom? I think only option you have is to reinstall rom.

I can and have tried but it wont let me flash with the "unable to mount /data" error. It tells that my external sd-card and whatever rom i attempt to flash has problems

Be sure your sdk is up to date.
1. If you hold volume down plus power button to get to fastboot.
2. shift + control right click fastboot folder on computer then open command prompt.
3. type devices... and if it is not showing a device there something is not right.
4. you can try adb push to apply a flash if your device is not wanting to flash from sd card.

I've tried this as well. It was my first thought. Also it states in my original post that fastboot doesnt list my device, adb doesnt list it as well. Both are recent and up to date. However device manager does recognize it and windows makes the little notification sound. In safely remove devices it shows up as fastboot when i enable fastboot on the device.

You should mount the sd card using recovery and then use your PC to copy the zips you need back to your sd card and then flash them. Some recoveries will automatically mount the sd card as soon as you connect the phone and the PC with the usb cable. In others you may have to go into the mounts (or Mounts and Storage) menu and select mount USB storage or sd card.

Try to push rom file through adb side load..
I happened to me once..
Try this..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575150
Plug her into computer
Make sure drivers are working for adb by mounting storage than running the command "adb devices" assuming you have set up your sdk. if your device shows up. Run this
"adb push ROM.zip*/data/media" in the prompt.
If your device is not recognized.
Update drivers manually using the device manager on your computer. You will need to install the drivers. That's easy. Just look up how to. That should fix it with minimal confusion

[Q] Internal memory recovery with broken screen

Hello,
I have Samsung Galaxy Core Plus (SM-G350) with broken screen (totally black) and password set up.
I want to recover my internal card data, but any of my ideas wont work.
I have already installed CWM and tried to blindly mount /sdcard by USB, but I dont see any new drive on PC.
I wanted to root it, but any of methods I found wont work (maybe cause Im running in CWM? Yes, USB debugging is disabled).
I tried also 'adb pull', but I need to mount /sdcard (am I right?) where I get 'permission denied' error - in adb shell I cant perform any command except 'cd'.
Im thinking about flashing /data by Odin, but how to create the 'script' for it?
Anybody has any idea how can I do it?
Same Boat...
I've got a broken screen on Centura Galaxy. I managed to blindly ODIN CWM on it, and now get ADB in recovery, but debugging is off so I'm stuck with there. I've tried recovery screenshot tools to try to load rooted ROM, but had no luck. I know JUST enough to be dangerous, and not much more. Just need to get DCIM folder.
@xNombre
If this is still valid, you could try flashing TWRP onto the phone, where it should mount the SD Card automatically and it should connect to the PC automatically too. Search for TWRP (either 2.8 or 3) here on XDA

No touch screen in TWRP

Hi everyone, I was trying to return my moto g7+ to stock. I had wiped all partitions except internal, ext sd, and otg. I already had motorola_moto_g7_plus_xt1965-2_lake_retail_br_9.0_ppw29.98-66.zip on my sd card, but when I tried to install it it gave me an error message. I then downloaded it from motostockrom.com to my desktop. Then I copied it to a usb thumb drive and connected it to my phone via an otg cable. When I looked for it in TWRP, it wasn't listed. I removed the thumb drive and deleted everything but the .zip file and it still listed all of the files that I had deleted and not the .zip. I rebooted the phone and when it rebooted, I went into TWRP but my touch screen didn't work so I couldn't do anything. I tried to connect to phone via ADB but it wasn't being recognized. Strange thing, when TWRP starts, I can access the internal storage and the micro SD card folders on my computer. I've read other's posts with the same problems but I haven't seen any solutions. I'm using TWRP 3.5.2 _9-0. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Can you enter fone gui? You need to revoke adb keys in dev options in fone in order to regrant them, then reboot back into twrp, and twrp adb should work, but if you can get in fone gui, and load adb, use Vysor, google it, Vysor gives your pc mouse control of your fone in your pc as if you were at the phone screen. Google Vysor.
An awfy long way to say screen dont work lol, Prob solved in 1 word.
If you cant enter gui, get back to me

I came across a post that mentioned using a mouse with the otg cable so I tried that. I was able to access the controls in TWRP. I was still getting the error message "invalid zip file format! Error installing zip file '/external_sd/Motorola_Moto_G7_Plus_XT1965-2_LAKE_RETAIL_BR_9.0_PPW29.98-111_(by_motostockrom.com) (1).zip".
Is there a spelling error, re: (by_motostockrom.com)? I tried to restore to a point that I had saved from 2020 which said that it had completed sucessfully but resulted in a boot loop. I tried to restore to the other save from 2021, but it gave an error "Cannot restore firmware -- mounted read only." In recovery, if I go to file manager, all of the entries are 20+ character alphanumeric, which I had experienced before when I tried to do a restore but my phone was encrypted.
