This is Rain, an LG Home+ theme for your LG G7 running Android 9. This theme is a premium quality theme like no other Home theme+. What you see is what you get and that is quality and attention to details! Rain is a dark theme with some bright gradient accents throughout. The Dark Notifications compliment the ui and battery life! The app icons have a slight gradient to them, with some more noticeable than others. This theme does not support adaptive icons as some of the key features of this theme are blocked by enabling the adaptive icons. If you'd prefer adaptive you will need to use a third party launcher like Hyperion or Nova.
No need to run a third party theme system any more, just use the system theme chooser and you can enjoy all the benefits of an advanced theme system.
To apply the theme simply go into settings/display and select themes. From there select Rain, and push apply! then reboot and then reapply the theme again. It's a bit more in depth than other themes but given the complexity of this premium theme it is required for all elements to be themed properly.
That's it! Simple, easy and quick.
This theme is also meant to run at the highest resolution, with the lowest stock setting for the actual display size. Larger sizes may cause some elements to look slightly off. If this happens please lower the display sizes of the iconography.
Also for the power menu to be themed you have to reboot and reapply the theme. Sometimes you may have to reapply it more than once. This is something with LG's software and not within my control.
If you run into any issues please send me an email directly instead of leaving a poor rating. Often I am very quick to reply and great to solve any issues. The review system is not meant to be a support channel!
Thank you so much for your support and I hope you enjoy this theme. I've worked extremely hard on this and by far it was the most challenging and time consuming project I've ever made!
Now for the stuff people actually care about.... Screenshots!!!

Pixel Experience
This is the Pixel Experience. For those who want to enjoy a lighter theme with minimal, subtle changes that want to be able to set it and forget it without having to worry about constant Google app updates and be able to enjoy the Pixel look. This is for you and you're gonna love it! Like Alpha this theme will be updated regularly and will continue to grow as time goes by. Enjoy the clean and refreshing look and experience the Pixel!!! #WhiteUiMustLive
Now you probably didn't bother to read that crap above so let's just post some screenshots shall we?

Pixel Experience (Legacy Theme)
So since not everyone digs using substratum I decided that Pixel Experience should be a regular (Or as I call them "Legacy" LG Theme). No computers, no additional apps in order to use it... You can just set it and forget it! You will get all the features from the Substratum version and then some.
Here's a pic of how this theme looks!

Pixel Experience Dark
Welcome to the dark side. This is Pixel Experience Dark! Including dark notifications! I'm really proud of this and how it turned out! Please take the time to read the app description as there is some important information in there for your benefit which will help you get the best experience out of this theme! Also in the description are optional patches which are theme specific!
So go get it and please drop me a quick rating and if you'd also be so kind to give this a quick share too that would be great!
Screenshots!!!
Since this theme pushes the boundaries of the LG Theme system it retains adaptive and dynamic icons on stock launcher. Due to this you will have to select your navbar color in settings, display, home touch buttons. By default it may show you have selected the dark option, but the navbar may still be white. Simply select the white and then select the dar one again and you should be set. It's a bit odd but that's just how it has to work. Unfortunately there is one app that does not show the navbar as being dark which is the LG Music app. it demands to stay white due to this. I realize some people may not like this so I've also made another patch for users who want it to match. This however will kill the adaptive and dynamic icons so decide which option you prefer because unfortunately due to system limitations you simply cannot have both. Like the previous patch just install it, reapply the theme and reboot. If you use a third party launcher this patch should most definitely be used. link to patch:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tDOIM4dKssw3oOMm6clEBROlGEoOgGt3/view?usp=sharing
I've also included a patch for Light notifications because some people mention that they're having difficulties with some apps like whatsapp or telegram where the user name is black on a dark background or that they have a light shadow around said text to make it somewhat readable. If you wish you can install the patch and the entire theme will remain as is but the notifications will be light and you won't have any issues at all.
How to install the patch: First update the theme to the latest version. Then download the following apks (link below). Next change to stock theme. Then install the apk patches. Then after you've installed them apply Pixel Experience Dark. Next reboot and you'll be all set. If you experience some force closes that is because you didn't revert to stock theme and installed the patches while using Pixel Experience Dark

Twilight
See bottom of description for Quick Settings Add-on Patches!!!
This is Twilight an LG Home+ theme for your LG V40 or LG G7 running Oreo only (Pie is not yet available on my devices and therefore not yet supported!!!) This theme is a premium quality theme like no other Home theme+. What you see is what you get and that is quality and attention to details! Twilight is a dark theme with bright gradient accents throughout.
***Third party Quick Settings Icons:
Some apps allow the user to add a shortcut activity to the quick settings panel. This is not supported by this theme whatsoever. If you decided to add any icons to your quick settings panel they will not show up. They will be 100% transparent. They cannot be added. If this bothers you then in a future update I will make an add-on quick settings patch that will add usability back for them, however it will sacrifice the creativity of the current structure of both styles of available quick settings icons. It will be more minimal and all the icons will be the same color like how most themes are. Due to the complexity and advanced nature of this theme this is something that I am aware of and have embraced 100%.
To apply the theme simply go into settings/display and select themes. From there select Twilight, and push apply!
That's it! Simple, easy and quick.
Please note that refunds will not be given for installations on non LG V40 or G7 Oreo Devices. As the title of the theme clearly indicates which device this is for and this app description does specify which OS version is supported..
This theme is also meant to run at the highest resolution, with the lowest stock setting for the actual display size. Larger sizes may cause some elements to look slightly off. If this happens please lower the display sizes of the iconography.
If you run into any issues please send me an email directly instead of leaving a poor rating. Often I am very quick to reply (unless I'm sleeping and you're in a different time zone) and great to solve any issues. The review system is not meant to be a support channel!
Quick tip... Search and install the app "Quick Shortcut Maker" on google play. Install, then long press on your home screen and select the 1x1 quick shortcut maker widget and drag it on your home screen. Then in the activities tab, scroll down to"wallpaper & themes" and expand it. touch 1st option at the top of the list that doesn't have and upwards arrow. Hit Create" button at the bottom and now you have a themes app shortcut you can place on your desktop!!!
Thank you for your support and enjoy theme!!!
This theme as you can see from the screen previews shows two different styles of Quick Settings icons. This is because I designed both styles and had a tough time deciding on which ones to go with so I decided to make them both. The minimal icons are default. However if you wish to change them simply download the corresponding patch to the style that you want. After you've downloaded the patch, apply the default LG theme. Then install the patch, reboot and reapply the theme then reboot again. You will now see a different style. If you wish to change back the original style you can repeat the above process using the other patch. I've uploaded and clearly labeled both patches. They can be found here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=288986
For dark notifications it takes 5 add-ons patches.

G Theme 3
Click me for Video Promo
t's back!!! This is G Theme 3. Why G Theme you ask? Well I think you can figure that out when you use it what it's all about. This theme is a premium quality theme like no other Home theme+. What you see is what you get and that is quality and attention to details! G Theme 3 is a dark theme with beautiful colors and designs throughout it. The Dark Notifications compliment the ui and battery life! This theme supports adaptive icons and I recommended choosing circle which is unlocked as a feature and can be accessed from going into the settings application and then going into display, home and choose the icon shape. Due to this the music app does have a light overlay at the bottom which is a bug that LG should address!!! For real LG fix that will ya.
Now this is the important part. This theme is only for LG devices running UX 7, Android 9.0 pie. If you are running a different LG UX or android version this will not work and if you upgrade from the above this theme may not work properly. It is presented on an "as is basis". I do my best to try and update to allow for the theme to function on all devices as best I can and as soon as I can. However due to LG's interesting update cycle sometimes one device may update prior to others.
To apply the theme simply go into settings/display and select themes. From there select G Theme 3, and push apply! then reboot and then reapply the theme again. It's a bit more in depth than other themes but given the complexity of this premium theme it is required for all elements to be themed properly.
That's it! Simple, easy and quick.
The theme comes with a coral wallpaper but if you'd like to have it animated simply grab this add on and set it as a live wallpaper and you'll be all set. Since most Lg Devices don't support seamless wallpapers just download this and install it and set as your live wall and enjoy!
Live Wallpaper right Here!!!
Please note that refunds will not be given for installations on non LG G7, V35 UX 7 (running Pie) Devices.
Often I am very quick to reply and great to solve any issues. The review system is not meant to be a support channel!
Thank you so much for your support and I hope you enjoy this theme. I've worked extremely hard on this and by far it was the most challenging and time consuming project I've ever made!

Instructional video on how to apply Alpha, see below
You will need ADB installed on your pc: Right here
You will also need the substratum app as well as the Andromeda app and the Desktop client for Andromeda
This thread is for support and feedback for my LG Substratum themes and legacy LG themes. with the update to 8.0 Oreo substratum is now supported without rooting your device. Due to the capabilities with Substratum all previous LG themes will be referred to as "Legacy themes" and the primary focus has shifted to Substratum. Since substratum can provide everything that an LG theme can provide and more it makes the most sense to evolve and transcend into the more advanced theming system.
So this is my first theme "Alpha". It has a double meaning and I feel is appropriate for this theme. Let's stop with the chit chat and post a few screenshots and if you're looking for a way to pass the time then keep reading! I promise you the literature doesn't get any better, but have at it!

Oh hey everyone! Again, I didn't see ya there. You just snuck right up on me now didn't ya bud. Well it's that time again. Another new beautiful LG device is upon us and I had to get it. So it must mean it's time for another fun theme discussion and feedback thread. Now I must get this next bit out of the way to make it clear what the purpose of this thread is. 1: I am not here to sell my work whatsoever and that is not the purpose of this thread. Posts regarding updates, screenshots or other communication are strictly for the purposes of obtaining feedback on what I do. and to see if users are pleased with said changes. 2: I will never post a direct link to anything I make that is paid as that is not allowed and I expect that as users you will not post links either.
My V20, G6 and V30 threads are absolutely fantastic and I encourage you all to check it out at some point if you wish to see how I interact with people. I cannot thank you all enough who have supported me and given me feedback and interacted with me in any way to discuss things theme related. Don't be shy about commenting or giving suggestions or feedback provided it is constructive and is done in a mature and professional manner. Feel free to joke around a bit and have some fun. That's what it's all about anyway. It's a very positive and fairly active thread. Users often give me feedback which is incredibly valuable and also post pics of any bug fixes. That allows me to quickly address issues.
First things first to any mods who may be peeping it is important to note that I am complying with xda rules and there are zero paid direct links posted anywhere in this thread by me. So there are no rules being violated. Rule 11 states that I can use xda to get user feedback on paid applications and that is what this thread is for so I am well within rule 11 which can be found here:
11. Don?t post with the intention of selling something.
Don?t use XDA to advertise your product or service. Proprietors of for-pay products or services, may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or a free version of their product for XDA users and to offer support, but not to post with the intention of selling. This includes promoting sites similar / substantially similar to XDA-Developers.com.
Do not post press releases, announcements, links to trial software or commercial services, unless you?re posting an exclusive release for XDA-Developers.com.
Encouraging members to participate in forum activities on other phone related sites is prohibited.
Off-site downloads are permitted if the site is non-commercial and does not require registration.
Off-site downloads from sites requiring registration are NOT encouraged but may be permitted if both of the following conditions are met:
A) The site belongs to a member of XDA-Developers with at least 1500 posts and 2 years membership, who actively maintains an XDA-Developers support thread(s) / posts, related to the download.
B) The site is a relatively small, personal website without commercial advertising / links (i.e. not a competitor forum-based site with purposes and aims similar to those of XDA-Developers.com.)
Be sure to follow me on google plus to stay up to date and get additional theme information regarding updates and other testing and feedback.
So this thread is for all those who are using any of my themes where we can come discuss things, give feedback and post screens etc of what I've been working on. I will continue to add new themes and post screens of my work here and interact with all of you. Remember, I ask that you be civil to myself and other members and keep any feedback constructive.

Reserved for theme 9

That's right... I'm taking the whole page!

Nice. Didn't think you'd have XDA action but sweet. Alpha purchased. It's gonna be a day or so before I can do the Andromeda thing but I'll report bugs, etc on here man. Nice work as always @MARK Bencze

Thanks! Installed and working great!!!

Looks like you need to sort out a few things still. That doesn't quite look right. Check the lg system resources option and settings overlays. Your icons are a bit off in settings. They should be centered
I have a feeling that when you get lg system resources that your 3 dot menu and search icon might have readability issues if you select the same accent color as the theme color. I'll check this too. If so I'll add it to a list and correct it. Normally the first version when adding a new device we find a few surprises so I'll probably wait a day or so and explore as well as get feedback from people here and then see what I can do.

Thanks. I didn't notice. I'll check out a few things on my end tomorrow when I have the chance.

I will add then when I followed this instruction (in the play store description)
.....Then once all the overlay's are build go back and select them again and select "enable". I found 9 times out of 10 this is the best way to apply them and I experienced fewer issues. Do this from the "Themes" tab. The "Manager" tab really wasn't needed and caused me the most headaches......

it didn't quite "take" for me, so I enabled from the "Manager" tab, and all was right with the world.
fwiw, I also read through your instructions posted here too before doing anything:

Nevertheless, awesome theme!!

Glad to see some mods coming along for the G7! I do have a question though: is it possible to change the statusbar icons to AOSP icons with your mod? I absolutely despise the fugly icons that Samsung/LG/every single OEM except for Google use on their devices. I also would love the option to be able to see p.m/a.m after the time on the statusbar too.
Sorry if the question sounds silly, I'm just not sure what you can do without root/unlocked bootloader on Android phones. Thank you!
Either way, thank you for your contributions

Sold! I've been able to get the nav bar and the status icon to stock Pixel and am loving it! Just need to figure out how to reverse the settings since it seems a bit buggy. Don't really need a "dark" theme but I'm sure some people do.

Great useful apps with hideous UIs or Icons...

Hi...
I love Android...however, one thing I do hate, is that a LOT of Devs seem to lack any sense of style and design in the market...(also if u look at the Post ur Screens thread you see this horrible sense of design permeates throughout the user-base as well)
Anyways, I figured I'd ask you guys...what apps on the Market, that you thoroughly use do you feel have hideous and/or tacky, UIs or Icons?
Me I'll list 5:
OI File Manager....SERIOUSLY? Still using 1.1 Folder Icons? I don't think it'd take too much to sexify the app...it's useful, and is called by a lot of other apps on the market, it'd be nice if it looked good...which it does not, I know people will defend it, but no, just like Android pre 2.0, OI File Manager is absolutely hideously designed..sad for such a useful and widely called app.
DroCap2....WOW...super useful, and the in app UI is great and simple and will work with any theme...however that ugly ass icon...and the notification icon...I emailed the Dev asking to design him a new Icon with no answer...but seriously, I can't imagine someone making that and being like "Yes, THIS Icon is the business...upload it" Hopefully he eventually gets back to my email but being that it's been a month, I'mma call that unlikely...
NYC Subway Map....this one is just an icon (and I wish they'd implement the pinch to zoom API in the map simply for WOW factor) but yea...the Icon looks like a 2 second rush job to create an Android 2.0+ icon and failing miserably...it's horribly rendered, tragically mis-sized, and that sucks as that is one of my most used apps especially when I am in NYC...
APP UPDATED IN MARKET, LOOKS GREAT. Look for NYCMate brought to you by DenseBrain in collaboration with Episode 6
Root Explorer...Come ON man...From the old purple Android pre 2.0+ Folder Icon with the root on it to the hideous file cabinet with the root on it to every single icon inside the app, this is one of the UGLIEST Android Apps out there...and like the others I've listed, it is absolutely useful and simple...I bought Su File Explorer and I don't even use it because Root Explorer does everything I need, without the bloat. (I'm sure this "bloat" is needed by others but in my opinion for my needs it is bloat) But seriously, the entire design is hideous. I actually went and replaced EVERY Icon in this apk as I just couldn't bring myself to use it as it was, especially the way it clashes with both stock android 2.0, and ANY theme.
Bettercut - THIS ICON AND UI WERE HIDEOUS FROM THE GET GO...update people...seriously.
honorable mentions (Decent UIs/Icons, but eh)
Astro File Manager...I just don't like the iconset...I figured at least the most widely used file manager on Android (citation needed) would follow the Android tenets of design in a post 2.0 world...It does not...the 3/4 view Icons with the faux gloss, too much "eye candy" not enough design...love the app however (my first download before Android started auto restoring apps) but I feel the design needs to mature along with Android itself.
A LOT OF GAMES...seriously...a lot of games have the worst icons...and not even by far...simply a slight resize and maybe a border with a faux bevel and matte finish...wouldn't take a lot but I figured at least game icons can be consistent with the design tenets of the UI....they are not. usually 100% square too...sucks cause a lot of great games on Android.
Engadget for Android - HORRIBLE Icon...nuff said.
Speedtest - just change the angle on the icon...front facing would work fine. that slight 3/4 angle is just slightly pet peevish to me...
K-9 Mail...horrible Icon as well, especially for such an amazing app and great UI (well since I last used it)
Please add to this list, and don't let your love of Android stop you from being subjective.
______________________________
Rant:
Android is a great UI, and is maturing nicely, and hopefully with the UI/UX refresh planned for 3.0 it becomes attractive beyond attractive...however I noticed a lot of the best devs don't seem to have any sense of design, and having been to a developers lab in NYC I can assure you that design is the last thing on their minds (or was) judging from the business cards I saw. Post I/O 2010 I saw a fireside chat (or whatever) where they were discussing UI standards and Icon standards...and it was a good lab subtly suggesting (and REAL subtly begging) that developers start unifying the experience across apps which unfortunately is an Apple tenet (not just iPhone) and one that works...I only hope Android gets such a consistency amongst itself...with the freedom to change and theme and etc that we've come to know and love.
Sadly the iPhone is the defacto standard, and despite their systems shortcomings to me (I hate the general UI for one, sea of icons? no bueno) however I love their developers commitments to staying consistent (probably because apple has a proverbial gun to their heads) and providing a cleaner UX for the general consumer...if Android devs got this consistency...imagine our UX...It matters guys...and as much as any of you want to dislike apple overall (and I'm with you) there is still a LOT they do right...so we should do better...period
Please add to the list and feel free to share your thoughts...I already know at least one popular themer and a few others members here feel the same way...so I know it can't be just me.
OH and any "WELL JUST DON'T DOWNLOAD THE APP, ANDROID HAS OPTIONS DOWNLOAD A DIFFERENT APP" will not be responded to. At all...

I like the engadget icon. =-D
I agree to some extent - programmers tend to be not great at ICON & UI design (me included). Perhaps you should post alternatives here (Before & After icons) to show them/us how it should be done. Also, include tips, a quick reference to googles recommendations & maybe even some templates (GIMP / PSP / Photoshop / Paint.NET) to encourage devs!
I look forward to some samples.

And I'm going to do both DroCap and NYC Subway Map app Icons for examples.

good job sir
Dialer One's icon is terrible, it looks like the WebOS dialer and is completely out of place with the rest of my stock icons (thanks FolderOrganizer!)

.....................
Beautiful Widgets:
Beautiful (Smaller) Home is great.
All the others don´t fit to eclair & froyo style, too big & oldfashioned.
-> Beautiful Vibrate, Silent,.....
NOTE: This app has been updated in Market and this problem does not exist anymore, I am keeping this post up though to see what a little thought can do for an app Icon.
here are 4 quick NYC Subway Map Icons I just made (basically one icon, I just added the MAP text to the other and some alterations in shadowing) Borrowing the theme of the subway icons (FRACKING DUH!!!) and using a similar font to the subway signs on the icon (Helvetica 65 Medium - Bold)
They can use some work obviously, but this is what 5 minutes with a moderate sense of design gives you.
I'm reaching out to all devs with ugly icons...if your app is for free, I will do my best to make you an icon...FOR FREE.
However UI design is not my forte, but do not be afraid to ask people...we are a community more than willing to help and we have some VERY talented designers here.
Dialer One:
I don't know why they didn't just mimic the new icon for Android considering it is meant to be a replacement for the Android Dialer...so taht's exactly what I did...except a color change. Negating extract, PS load, save and upload time, about 20 seconds of work..
Fits perfectly with the stock theme, is distinctive, and simple...
you don't really have to be too fancy, just go with the flow of Android...it almost seems like Devs are fighting with the OS...work with it...seriously.
(same goes for some of the icons in say, ChompSMS and Dialer One and other apps that use contact icons...why use a new custom icon for the contacts with no pictures when you can simply use the one Android uses...it'll create a great degree of continuity and flow.)
ALSO, there are a LOT of royalty free icons out there that fit, or can be slightly modified to fit the Android UI...don't be afraid to use them.
NOTE: App updated in Market so these issues no longer apply, I am keeping it up though to show what a little UI management can do for the UX of an app.
Modified App Design: NYC Subway Map (Sorry if it seems I'm picking on the app, but it just came to me watching that Android video) I haven't made a home page yet, but judging from their one now, it won't be hard to make one like Twitter and Facebook have.
Before:
After:
Links to Home (which may be redundant as the graphic/icon to the left is supposed to default to home as it does on Market, Facebook and Twitter) The Bus Map and a Greyed out Subway Map since we are there already....Simple, Sleek, and just that addition alone would make the UX much better.
Tunewiki is just awful as well.
androidVNC, Gmote
I had a friend replace androidVNC's icon and I renamed it "VNC". It was just too useful an app to let it go on like that. I'll upload the edited app if anyone's interested.
I think that there are enough designers out here that love to help dev's to make android apps more UI friendly. They can always ask here on forum (didn't see that much people asking).
maybe if some volunteers can step forward and put their names here so developers can contact these people, just a idea.

Great idea. I'm volunteering. We need this thread to gain more exposure and anyone who feels a certain way about a certain app should email the dev and direct them here. This is important for the future of android overall.
The problems is not developers. it is Google.
The whole android scene is so much similar to Win Mo 6.x. The operating system is solid, but it lacks cohesive UI. Also, the OS does not provide with attractive default shell and thus developers, who are very good at programming, decide to do their own UI, only to fail miserably. look back at Win Mo 6.x apps and compare them to apps in market. They both just look out of place on the phone.
iPhone OS gives a beautiful cohesive UI shell to programmers and that makes a huge difference. Not all programmers have style of sense..so OS has to lead with an example.
Also, the launcher icons look ugly because android does not do anything to make them look cohesive in the launcher. If each icon is using it's style, it looks chaotic. Samsung Touchviz does a good job of putting a square background behind each app icon. Things just look more organized. little touch can go a long way.

That's true too. Though google did provide a design aesthetic with the latest I/O which I linked in the OP. I like the current icons though pre Android 2.0 was pathetic. I really hope this palm dude works wonders with 3.0.
Also. Whoever approved of the orange highlight color should be fired.

I fully agree with the orange, android is green so why orange? look at HTC the green looks solid
My number one is Astrid to do planner. Great app, very good features but childish icon.

[APP][16/11] Clockr - Text-based clock widget [UPDATED][v1.5]

What is Clockr?
Clockr is a simple home-screen widget that displays the current time in a readable text format.
While it is simple in design, it is packed full of customisation options to make it look just the way you want it to.
Why did I make Clockr?
I have always been a fan of minimalism. I like to have a clean home-screen. Since there was no other widgets available that presented the current time in a way that I wanted it, I decided to make my own widget.
Will it work on my device?
At the moment, Clockr is supported on all current devices running 2.1+. Soon I will have support for earlier versions of Android, but I haven't been able to test this yet. It was designed with a 480x800 screen in mind, but this isn't to say it wont work on other sizes (again, it is something I haven't tested).
Where can I get Clockr?
Clockr is again available as a free download from the Android Market. You can find it by searching for "clockr".
QR code, its click-able if you are on your phone (thanks to Wallla and excedio for helping me out):
I hope you enjoy my widget!
Thanks
- xaffron (One More Clock) for his help with services and his nifty notification trick.
- zappatilias (BattStatt) for the initial inspiration and for the Color picker suggestion!
- ralfoide (24 Clock) learnt a lot by studying his code.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How do I use this widget? Every time I click the icon it just brings up a stupid information screen.
A: Scroll down to the next post, I have provided a simple guide to installing Clockr/Clockr Evolution on your Home screen.
Q: Why does a clock need permission to read phone state?
A: Apparently it doesn't, this has been removed in the latest versions available on the Android Market. If you are being asked for this permission by my app, you are using an older version, please update. - Thanks zappatilias
Q: Some other clocks don't use a service, why does yours?
A: Clockr will only use a service if you enable "Force Update". If you are having problems with the clock going out of sync, you might need to enable "Force Update" as most people suggest this is the best method. In fact I have tested Clockr against other similar clocks using Watchdog real-time profiling and I have found Clockr (With Force Update enable) to be one of the most efficient of all of them in regard to actual CPU usage. I encourage you to test this yourself, you will be surprised at how little this app uses.
Q: Why does it put an item in my notification bar if I select "Force Update"?
A: Since Android 2.0, there have been changes to how services are handled. To keep a service from not being killed by the Android OS, you need to set it to run in the foreground. Since a clock widget needs to be constantly updating itself every new minute that passes, we don't want the OS to kill it off at the wrong time. Now, by setting itself in the foreground, it doesn't mean it's actually working any harder, it just means that when the OS decides to kill off services, it will leave it alone.
In the old days (pre-2.0), it was possible to start a service and flag it as "foreground" and that was it. To do the same thing now, Android requires that a notification is shown to the user at all times. I've hidden it as much as possible (thanks to xaffron for his suggestions), but if you don't like the idea of a notification sitting there, you can switch "Force Update" off.
Q: When will you add this feature...
A: At the moment, I am working on including many features. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them in this thread but I can only work on so many things at once, I am only human!
Q: Why don't you respond to my complaint in the market.
A: While I do read every comment on the market, if you have a bug/issue, it is best to write about it here or even email me via the email address on the Clockr Market page (which is: [email protected]). Please try to provide as much information as possible, I'm not psychic. If you can include what phone you have, which rom (official/custom) you are using, how did the bug occur, what were you doing, etc... it will help me greatly to find the problem.
Q: Will you be adding support for App2SD
A: No. Please stop asking, you're making yourself look silly. App2SD does not and never will work for widgets.

How to install the Clockr Widget on your homescreen
NOTE: This isn't the only way to add widgets to your Home screen, but it is one way that is easy to explain.
FIRST STEP
You need to start from your Home screen. This is what a basic Home screen looks like:
It has widgets and other things that you can move around.
You need to make sure that you have room for Clockr to be installed (It does take up a whole row of space).
SECOND STEP
Press the "Menu" button on your phone so that this pops up:
Now you need to select the "Add" option (the one I have highlighted).
THIRD STEP
Now this dialog box will pop up:
Select the option to add "Widgets" (highlighted in the image).
FOURTH STEP
Now a list of available widgets will appear:
Select the Clockr widget that you wish to install.
FIFTH STEP
If you followed these simple steps, Clockr will now be added to your Home screen:
If you tap on the widget, you can then change any of the custom options to make it look how you want it to look.
Hope this has helped you, if you are still having trouble, let me know!

Added some mods. Uploaded to here, and on my blog's downloads section
Zehro and Hollywooder thanks for all your efforts!!
looks like an awesome app, just now added to my screen its much better than tjam in my opinion!
Looks cool, I'll try it out later.
Oh, how about localised versions? One thing that always bugged me about Tajm is that it is only English and am/pm, I'd very much love a widget like that that reads e.g. "ZwölfSiebenundZwanzig"

I hope to be able to add this soon.
I'm still very new to Android Development, just learning my way around. At the moment, I am working to provide a configuration screen that allows you to change font size, font color and also add a background image (similar launcherpro dock). After this, I think localisation will be my next goal.
Man, I was totally lurk-stocking the Nexus boards waitin for this. Great work man, thank you!
Freakin' awesome! I use it on my EVO and it looks nasty! I love it!
You know what would go good w/ this? "Dater" "tuesdayNOVEMBERtwenty-fifth"

it would be cool if it were possible to install all three mods as separate widgets rather than having to replace one after the other when trying to switch between mods
Thanks for the comments everyone! I'm glad people are liking it, hopefully you will like it even more once I improve it!
The reason it updates a bit slowly is because I didn't want it to be a big drain on battery life. I can always change it so it updates more frequently, but for my first android app release, I didn't want people screaming at me because my app is killing their device. =P
Tonight I have been trying to workout how to get this configuration page to work properly. As soon as that clicks in place, you'll be able to switch font colors and all the other things easily.
I do plan to make other widgets in a similar style (I like the idea of dater, but the name... sounds a bit like a dating service! LOL). Right now, I'm just trying to focus on getting this configuration screen working and then it will be easy for me to apply my application to other ideas.
For now, I gotta sleep. Its after 2am here and I have to work tomorrow! >.<

but would it drain the battery too fast if it updates every minute? been using tajm and batt stat for awhile and didn't notice any drain though. but anyway, thanks a lot for releasing this.

I'm New to Android - How to Theme

Hello everybody!
I recently left my "Apple Bubble" and caved in and bought the Galaxy Note 8.0. Now, i've had an Iphone for years, and i would consider myself to be accustomed to jailbreaking. However, ever since i picked up the Note 8.0 and researched on rooting, I've come to notice that not only does it seem more technical and risky, but also the bar for learning at a grass root levels is high! i've looked through forums and youtube videos of people to explain it in the most layman terms, and even though i learned enough to get started, its like walking through a forest trying to find a direct answer for a topic.
So, here is my general question to the community:
1.) How do you add custom themes made by people for the Galaxy Note 8.0? A step-by-step process would be much appreciated.
2.) If i need to root my device, can you recommend a root for the Note 8.0 that wont disable my S-Pen features?
3.)How do i change the system sound and boot logo of my device? Does that require rooting? If possible, can you provide a link to where i can download some?
4.) Any suggestions for must-have apps for a new android user like myself?
I really want to learn how to use android devices, just so i can trick my tablet out with the most slickest looking themes. Any advice or arrows in the right direction is much appreciated!
1.) How do you add custom themes made by people for the Galaxy Note 8.0? A step-by-step process would be much appreciated.
You don't need to root for that. Basically you replace the default launcher with a third party one that supports themeing etc and there are many available on play store free as well as paid. for starters you can try go launcher or buzz launcher and try few themes etc to get hang of how it all goes.
2) If i need to root my device, can you recommend a root for the Note 8.0 that wont disable my S-Pen features?
Root won't disable your s-pen features, what you do after that can. like installing a different rom etc.
I have not rooted my device yet, but read and look about cf-autoroot as that is most used and high success rate, make sure it's applicable for your device model.
3.)How do i change the system sound and boot logo of my device? Does that require rooting? If possible, can you provide a link to where i can download some?
System Sounds, perhaps you can select different sound files for notifications and stuff. but anything more you'll need to be rooted for this.
4.) Any suggestions for must-have apps for a new android user like myself?
its a very subjective and objective thing as many apps exist to accomplish same tasks.
but here are a few I can't work without (on this device) :
1.ES-File explorer. (complete file management with lan/ ftp access. share files/folder among devices on same wifi network.
2. A Third party Music player (I have purchased both poweramp (very good for most) and neutronMP (for audiophile quality and Network mounts)).
3. Google keep (notes and reminders)
4. Pocket (read later)
5. Diskusage
6. Antivirus (I use avg)
7. Sketchbook pro
These along with what already comes installed is the bare minimum (along with book/pdf readers) for my needs from the device.

Already partially answered in 1, look into different widgets etc and combination of a theme and widgets should get you there.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've checked out both launchers, and to my surprise, they work just like Dreamboard for the iphone. But if you dont mind, there's some more questions I would like to ask...
1.) Are there any themes for Android that changes the UI for the tablet?
2.) Any suggestions for some kool looking or productive widgets?

1.) Are there any themes for Android that changes the UI for the tablet?
If by changing the UI you mean chaning the internals look of menus , settings etc,
then i don't think there are any apps that would do it.
You would have to root and either change to a another ROM that allows some tweaks in there or would have to edit / flash resources into system which depending on how much and what they affect can cause issues with s-pen or other things,if touchwiz (samsung's skin and rom) specific options are not accounted for.
2.) Most of the widgets I have are come with their respective apps themselves. The only widgets I use for looks are
1: GIGANTICON, allows for different sized icons for apps on home screen.
2. Dashclock which has large amount of plugins, based on needs.
Dude if you want to theme... Wanam is the go to hands down, simply install xposed from xda and get wanam from The play store. Wanam offers literally everything you can imagine for customizing your stock 4.2.2 and higher touchwiz. I've themed with other methods, but wanam is not only the easiest, most strait forward method, but also the most stable method I've ever seen. I've pretty much quit flashing roms after I discovered wanam and only flash custom kernels now, since I can do everything a rom could offer with one simple app.

Yeah, I just started using Wanam. and it's pretty good, but I wish there was a way to implement a complete theme on my GN8. Nova and Wanam get me part of the way there, but thene are still artifacts that take away from the complete aesthetic experience. For example, I can't get the items indicated by the yellow arrows below to take the changes I've made in Wanam (Notification Title text and background), and there seems to be no way to change the separator lines between Quick Settings tiles. If anyone has a solution, I'd LOVE to hear it!

Also, is there any way to change the system font for Touchwiz? Xblast tools allows you to change the font for toast notifications and the status bar clock, but that's it. I would like to be able to use Roboto light system wide.

TIA!

Yes download a text pack, and side load it in the system with root explorer.
You can theme the panel your pointing at... its notification title bar in wanam theme setting.
You can also change the black background of notification panel and settings background in wanam with soothe pictures or colors, by using system holo dark theme, and notification panel.
You can theme nearly 100% of your device wroth wanam and 100% between wanam and xblast

Yeah, I saw the notification title stuff in Wanam, but as I said in my post, any changes I make to those particular items don't take. I've changed them in Wanam several times, and rebooted after each change, to no avail. As you can see, everything else does. Might be due to the ROM I'm using (Civato's Flex-Beam).
In search of this elusive "near 100%" theming you mention, can you please tell me what you use to theme the rest of the Touchwiz UI, such as Settings pages (which I see you did), progress bars, pop-up dialogs (modal or otherwise) keyboard suggestion text, ui controls, quick settings divider bars, etc? These all go towards that 100% theming I'm going for, but I couldn't find any of these items in either Wanam or xblast tools. I'd be very appreciative to you if you could please point out what I'm missing. TIA again!

Dude you can see how heavily themed my setup is right. Here's the thing, there's no trick I've told you already...I only used wanam. There's no secret or anything to it I simply did all the selection, making sure you switch the on toggle at the top and hit aapply for each different part you theme. Don't do 50 at a time, change a few, reboot change a few..There is no grand secret I'm hiding from you lol just trial and error and you'll figure it out.
As for font change...use the search man there's prolly 15 different guides on xda alone..

The Steam mobile app is definitely due an update, the last update was released in March 2012, but I don't see that changing for a long time.
The current interface for the Steam app is terrible, low quality images all over the show, it's a direct port from the iOS app, and that most certainly
does not follow the Android design guidelines. If Valve won't fix and update the app, who will?
I will.
This App is a modification to the official app from Valve on the Play Store. This mod completely changes the user interface from the ugly interface
that is currently in use, to a more pleasing interface known as "Holo". The visuals of this app follow the Android design guidelines as closely as it
possibly can without having to recode the entire app.
As well as this app being a visual update, the app also comes with speed increases, stability and general smoothness all the way throughout the app.
The standard app uses images for the text input box, send button and many more features of the app; using images for assets such as this contribute
to slowing down the speed of the app due to there being more files to read from. I have removed the need for many images in this app by moving the assets
from using images to using official Android code (Assets such as chat text input and the send button).
Every single visual asset of this app has been changed and rebuilt using the Android guidelines. The action bar is no longer an ugly bar with diagonal pin stripes
with a gradient overlay, it's now a single colour Android action bar. The chat bubbles are no longer obnoxious low quality bubbles, they're now high quality boxes
similar to that of the boxes used for Hangouts. All these visual changes and more in the app.
On the official app, scrolling through web pages (such as people's profiles) was painful, scrolling would take forever with a huge noticeable lag on every scroll,
making tasks such as viewing your games list unbearable.
To install this app, you must first of all uninstall the official app from the Play Store if you currently have that on your device.
Once the app is uninstalled, you can then install this version.

Looks great! Really needed this, I couldn't take much more of the default app's appearance.
If only Valve would do something about it sooner
Would it be possible to drag the side panel menu in from the side, and hide it away with another swipe? Similar to the new Play Store style?
Other than that amazing job!

In the current state the app is in, I cannot. However, I am working on a separate app which will replace this, that app will be full holo and be on the Play Store.
How exactly do you modify an app like this? Is there a general overview/tutorial somewhere?
God I would love this done to the Rdio app.

There are various programmes which will decompile an app, once you've decompiled the app, you will be left with the apps source code.
Once you've got the source code, you can start modifying images, XML files and Java files. Once you've done, you can recompile it, usually using the same programme as the one you used to decompile, although the signature will be different

Oh my god oh my god oh my god THANK YOU! I have been waiting for such an update for aaaages. I've posted the link for a few of my Steam friends and they're testing it out - here's what we discovered.
I found a first bug and a thing or two which can be reverted:
- If you have pending messages, touching the number near the name doesn't open the chat. I need to touch the name, then touch chat.
- The message boxes used to be gray and blue, now everything is white. If you can add alternating colors, it'd be great!
Suggestions for expanding features (which may be impossible since decompiling doesn't give the original source, but asking can't hurt!)
- Do you think you can fix the notification system? Steam somehow doesn't push them like WhatsApp does.
- Steam group chats is something the app has lacked for forever!
- Ability to clear history of certain chats while leaving others untouched?

The bug with tapping the chat button not working is a long standing bug in the normal Steam app and is completely random whether it happens or not, I will continue to look into a fix for this.
Alternating colours were a thought while developing, however in the end it was decided to use completely white. The white is much more appealing than alternating colours, it also attempts to mimic the Hangouts chat boxes.
I assume you mean to have the notifications to include what the message is?
It would be incredibly hard to add this, but I may attempt this in the future.
This you already can, just enter a chat with a certain button, press on the overflow menu and press the button that drops down.
Is it possible for you to release the source code or is Steam's license prohibiting that? Just asking since my Steam account is too valuable to be put at risk. Now, I am not saying that OP is out here to steal peoples login info, but there's always a risk involved when you are logging in through a 3rd party app.
If only Valve would man up and update the damn app. It's been what, over 1½ years since they updated it, yes, it looks horrible, it's slow and barely usable.

The chat button not working problem just appeared for me for two people I usually speak with, didn't happen before, but I think that's a coincidence then.
If you could include the option for alternating colors, it'd be great. Google design choices aren't always perfect either and I like to see who's who at a glance.
With the notification, I mean that the notifications often don't get pushed but feel like they get fetched, since they often don't notify while the screen is off and when the screen is on it suddenly notifies again, having like a 20 minute delay. Though I think it's just Steam not using the Google Push Notifications, and this might be impossible for you to fix.
Attempting sounds great! Sadly I think you'd need cooperation from Steam somehow, I don't suppose there's a clear API and messing around in decompiled code isn't exactly very structured .
The clear history option was requested by a friend, they wanted to batch-remove some histories, though I can't really see the point of it. Might be that they have a lot of messages from lots of people.

[R&D] oZoP support and compatibility

I am creating this R&D thread for a project I've been working on for most of this year.
The project named "oZoP" is an All-in-One mods/themes/tweaks for the phone.
The plan for the project is to make it a universally compatible for ALL stock based rom (AOSP is not and never will be supported or compatible)
I will probably release oZoP ConTroL as a stand alone zip mod that will do most of the work and include most or the options.
Eventually I will release the full Aroma oZoP (One Zip One Place) that will include a full rom with all bloat files (all optional of course), along with various other tools needed to build you phones setup the way you like it.
The reason for this thread is to receive valuable and needed user feedback, recommendations and requests.
The feedback will be used to build "OUR" project into a bug free, totally stable experience that will have something for everyone!!
We will get into more detail about what info is needed and how we can get it all put together.
I will add more details as I update this thread. There are A LOT of mods and a lot of info so this will take time.
If you are really that interested and just need to know more, you can always take a glance at some of my other projects,
Most of these projects are simply just sections of oZoP that have been pulled out as a stand alone mod.
Here are a few samples of the mods during the build phase (some features may or may not appear the same or make it to the initial public release)

As you can see from what I have in the previews above There are a lot of options and configurations possibility and that's only about 1/5th of what is actually available at this point today.
With all those options come lots of possible conflicts with the various devices and variants that are planned to be on the list of compatible devices.
That brings me to the reason for this thread... I have the H918 Tmobile and may or may not need several users with other devices to be the support section to check compatibility!
To be clear, I have been building this project since March and have recently finished running clean install testing for the past 10 days to ensure all the defaults are set properly and that there are zero bugs that I can detect with my setup.
Again, just because everything works as it is intended for me with my model phone, carrier variant and app and setting setup, doesn't mean it will be the same for everyone.
This thread will hopefully eliminate any possibilities of this not working for everyone and ensures a wonderful experience
You may or may not have seen the following projects. They are in fact sections of oZoP pulled out as stand alone mods.
They have been sort of "silent" compatibility tests that have passed with flying colors. There has been no reports of things not working.
oZoP Modz - Full-screen Caller ID
oZoP MoDz - System Animations
BOOT/SHUTDOWN ANIMATION CHANGER
The next test is being announce as such and is starting taking place right here right now.

Report bug properly to get my support
Of course there are many way to properly report bugs and ALL of these ways have one thing in common, THEY ALL REQUIRE VERY DETAILED NOTES of the issue!
I'm moy goimg to go deep into how detailed you could get because lets face it, most people that report improperly are the ones who don't read and probably are going to read this! HaHaHa...
To get support from me I only ask for some simple things
1. What device, and rom you are running
2. What is the issue (no boot, fc everywhere, fc only certain app etc...)
3. Which option did you select
4. Did you get the install log
5. Did you use the restore.zip option to get back running
6. Do other choices share the same effect
That looks like a lot, but it really is the minimum amout of info need to troubleshoot!
Provide me that and I'll do my best to fix things and make this fun for everyone.
If you post things like
"Doesn't work", "bootloop" or anyone other similar post that have no value and help development is no way, actually these kinds of post only put development behind amd slow progress die the fact that anyone who cam help has to waste their time reading it!
If these kind of post ever come up, its best to ignore the lazy person and not clog the thread with flaming replies as that too slows development!

Just curious I could have missed it but will the ability to turn off the annoying battery full notification be included in the mods? And any chance the ROM could include WETA like abilities to modify what is on the second screen (ie: 3min clock)?
Thanks for sharing all this by the way. Exciting times for our V20!
I noticed today that if I do a bulk execute on the second screen mods work on weta. But if I try to just modify them under ui mods individual it causes the system ui to crash. I'm on Verizon weta 5.1 #2

For the clock I have mod native built with control of many thing which do include layout position. I also have native build battery controls including the option to switch between stock modded or 3 minit batteries.
I have stock battery position left/right, but so far it doesn't work right for second screen so the battery will be in the stock position on the right for now.
The reason for this thread is for suggestion, recommendations.
That being said, i currently do not have a switch for the full battery notification.... Currently... I will be adding that and you can expect to see it in the official release!
Thank you

For the 3 replies about having compatibility issues, I want to say this does not come to a surprise and I can assure you that this will not be the case with the official release.
I suspect the reason for this fc issue is because WETA is a very customized rom and some of the mods are probably pushing files the the sysui which I modded and the old files are conflicting because they do not include the referances to the edits I made for the animated home button etc.
This will not be an issue when all the oZoP files are in place.
So i also want to clear this up...
Once the official oZoP is ready and gets installed on to your rom, it will override ALL current mods of your rom. The mod includes most core system files that devs mod.
Don't worry though, i am pretty sure that ANY mods you currently have will be available with oZoP.
If we find out that there is a mod which I haven't included, just let me know and i will definitely do what i can to add the feature.
Sorry for the inconvenience. I will make things more clear for the future as well as add a restore failsafe to the zips.

I think it would be cool to have a working color coded battery bar for the second screen especially for the AOD part as it's easier to read than a small white battery icon and even the 3minit battery is still pretty tiny when trying to see it at a glance. Not sure if it is do-able
2nd screen is awesome on this phone just wish there was more ways to customize it. Be nice to force it to max brightness as well as being able to increase the time it displays notifications like text messages and stuff.

Again, thank you and this is what this thread is about, getting things we all want in one mod!
So for battery bar in SS, i already have the options for top/bottom placement, regular (left to right) or centered style, charging animation on/off, size and colorpicker for any color. I do not have it color coded, I assume you mean by percentage of battery remaining?
I can definitely look at adding to my code, but that may come in future updates...
As for the other battery options, stock battery is only white if you choose to leave it that way. The battery icon has color optiins for background, foreground and in-battery precentage colors. The icon has several styles including hide, circle and dotted cirlces. 3minit is 3minit, no need to go into that one.
As you can see, there are currently options that could hopefully satisfy your battery needs.
I totally aggree about needing more controls for SS options like brightness and screen notification timeouts.
@Zacharee1 and I have been looking deeper to add options for pulse and text color controls, but again this one may have to be for future updates as well...
Thank you for your interest and participation here.
Thanks for taking time to clear up as to why we're having issues. Your mods are awesome. And I commend you for putting the time in to do this for this phone. ?? ?? Im sure everyone in this forum with this phone is extremely grateful to you for doing this, as we don't have many choices for roms and such for a phone that is a year old. It amazes me, my old old HTC desire and galaxy s4 are still getting roms released yet this phone is all but abandoned. Lol anyway thank you immensely and I look forward to the finished product. (I will also beta test any releases you push if needed)

Do the math, its basically unlimited possibilities!

I need to write them down because I can never think of stuff on the spot but it's always whenever the problem arises.
Most of my suggestions pretty much center around the 2nd screen as there is just a disappointing lack of customization for it considering that is the biggest defining feature about the V20.
I was hoping LG would add more stuff to it after they talked big about focusing on the 'V' series as their main contender with the G series taking a backseat compared to it but with the V30 coming out sans a 2nd screen I have a bad feeling that if anything they are going to abandon any 2nd screen updates completely or just streamline it (i.e. neuter it with less features but make it look prettier) for the Oreo update if this phone ever gets it.
I also have a bad feeling that Oreo is going to be a long ways out for this phone so your timing with the mods and ROM are perfect ?
I'm extremely interested in this ozop rom. Thanks for puting all you time and effort into this. Will this work for the sprint ls997 model? If so which rom will we need to be running?

I remember a certain game company used that slogan for their Jaguar console. :silly:
Jokes aside thanks for answering my questions earlier. Looking forward to the ROM when it comes out.
