Apps being killed - Huawei P20 Questions & Answers

Hi there,
is there a way to stop apps being killed?
Some of the apps, that I need to stay open, are being automatically killed in the background, even though there is enough RAM (2.2GB).
I went to battery settings or anything, but there is no option that I could find.
Any way to do it without root?
Regards

It's done differently on EMUI 8 devices.
Settings > Battery > App launch
Select your app, turn off the toggle so you get a pop-up called Manage manually. Make sure the three options are enabled (blue) then press the OK button.
This will stop the operating system from closing the app.

Might be Doze doing that then. Try playing with those settings:
Open the 'Settings' app
Select 'Apps and Notifications'
Select 'Apps'
Press the 'Settings' cog at the bottom of the screen
Select 'Special Access'
Select 'Ignore Battery Optimisation'

Did not know about that, will try it out, thanks!

Done this, app is still being closed, even when I opened it the evening before I went to sleep. It is an app that will alert me when someone is having a hart-attack in my neighbourhood. Quit annoying.

For EMUI 8, tried everything on mate9, any setting is useless to stop closing apps in background, only can do:
1. swift to apps using push notification
2. downgrade to EMUI5.0
3. rooting if possible.

What I have found is that if you lock the app in the open app manager window it won't kill it.

[Q] How to make your phone's screen turn on when a message is received?

Try the NoLED app from the Market, and set it to light up on GTalk. I use it on my SGS4g, and it works great.

I am sure you could do this with Tasker. You would also have to get "Secure Settings" from the Play store. Also you need to be rooted. It will probably take some research, but when I did a Google search for (tasker "screen on"), I got a number of hits that looked like they had the info you would need.
Also, Tasker is great for automating many other tasks on your phone so it is worth the $6 and change it costs.

Want the screen to wake up on getting notifications
Hi guys.
I'm using a Motorola defy plus with Gingerbread. What i want is, my screen to light up when I get any notification like sms, email, whatsapp etc.
I tried the app LightFlow which does the job quite well, but its consuming a lot of RAM. Same is the problem with Popup Notifier. I dont even need popups, I can perfectly live with the status bar notifications. I just want to screen to light up, in the locked state.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the reply.
However, I'm not looking to pay for such a minor functionality. Also, using two apps will consume even more RAM than what the other two apps i tried did.
Please suggest something in the free domain.
Thanks.

Buy and download Tasker by CRAFTY APPS and download Secure Settings by INTANGIBLEOBJECT
Make sure that under your phone settings, accessibility, services that Tasker is ON.
Go into Tasker and make a new profile. Select Event, UI, Notification, select the "Owner Application" as the app that you want the screen to light up for when a notification from it is received.
Then, as the task, click new task, add an action, click Plugin, click Secure Settings, configuration "Edit", click Wake Device, select the things you want it to do and for how long, then click the save icon in the bottom left corner. It should then work then.
Tt should work now. Thank me if it does, let me now if it doesn't

"Service Provider Apps" - How to remove notification?

Like many others, one of the first things I did when configuring my phone was to remove as much bloatware as possible.
No, I don't need your crappy music app, or your ad-infested games. Uninstalled.
Now, on day two, I have an un-dismissable notification: "Service Provider Apps".
Clicking on it returns a menu: "Select apps recommended by your service provider."
App Name: "Amazon Prime Video" with a check mark that can't be unchecked.
Can't dismiss notification. Only option is "Install" when clicking notification.
Long press doesn't allow for blocking app notifications, but did allow me to force stop it, killing it for the time being.
I seem to remember there was a way to disable some notification to permanently stop receiving those messages.
Any tips?
With the whole Bixby debacle, I'm not surprised that they're trying to force even more junk on us.
Package disabler pro on market will disable it... Or long click and choose never display notification

just installed Package Disabler Pro and can confirm it does stop it, if anything changes i'll update here. as for long clicking on it to never display, this isn't an option.
Go to Settings-Display-Status bar- activate Show recent notifications only.
You will never sed thst notification again..
Good luck!
Still there, that setting was already enabled

1. Click on the notification,
2. On the new screen, click on the "Service Provider Apps" header
3. This takes you into Service Provider where you can Force Stop the app AND tell it to stop all notifications.
Good luck!
For me this worked:
- goto Settings/Apps
- click the menu icon (top right hand side of the screen - 3 vertical dots)
- click 'Show system apps'
- locate 'Service provider update' in the (long) list
- click it
- click 'Storage'
- click 'Clear data'
But this did the trick temporarily. The notification came back the next day. Now looking for a better solution
- click 'Delete'

must have apps for unrooted ?

Hey all, since we don't have root or custom ROM's yet, what are some of the must have apps to add additional functionality you find missing from your favourite roms? Things like additional tiles for the notification tray, etc. I'm looking for whatever you can't live without!
@mikeandjaimie
Immersive mode is cool, especially for video/games:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/razer-phone/how-to/tip-immersive-mode-root-required-t3714812
An Ad blocker is #1 on my list, whether rooted or not.
For unrooted,I go with Block-This:
https://block-this.com/
Real easy to use:
1) Choose whether to have auto-start on boot
2) Whitelist on a per-app basis

Holding on the settings icon does nothing for me. As soon as I let go it just loads the normal settings menu.

Are you sure you're bringing down the notification center from the status bar?
Bring that down and hold onto the top right settings icon. You have to hold down for 5 seconds

Yes, that's what I do. The phone vibrates but nothing happens.
I'm on UK 3 branded, so maybe it's been disabled in some way.

Didn't open anything but "settings" for me but then when I scroll down the menu ,it is above "about phone" and below "developer options"
Also I noticed my settings icon also has a wrench on it. I held it again and turned it off just to test, then I was able to turn it back on and even got a toast pop-up saying congrats it's enabled...

Nope. It works for me im using the three branded. When it vibrated there should be a toast notification saying its active. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the settings and there should be an option called system ui

Delay receiving notification or not at all.

As title, there are certain apps that my device wouldnt receive notification until I open the apps. Most of it are the games apps.
go to battery, launch, select app, disable manage automatically and tick all three options.

Tried the steps above but still not receive notification on time. Especially games apps.
Is this happening because of emui 8.0?

It's an app, so you can disable the system notifications from notification settings or just freeze the app.

I tried to disable the notification in settings but it says System Update these notifications can't be turned off, do you know the app name so I can freeze or remove it from system app/priv-app?

"System-Update"
Wow, this is exactly the question I wanted to ask.
Regarding method 1 (disabling the notifications), I can't find System-Update in Settings / Notifications / All apps.
That leaves method 2 (freezing). What tool do you suggest to do that?
I uninstalled Greenify because its hibernation was incompatible with Fingerprint unlocking (even with the 'slow method' enabled.)
EDIT: this seemed to work, is this a recommended way to do it?
- Open Titanium Backup Pro
- Tap the Backup/Restore tab
- At the top right, tap "Click to Edit Filters"
- Uncheck "User", check "System"
- Tap the green checkmark at the top right
- Scroll down to System Update 2.0.etc
- Tap Freeze

You need to enable the view of system apps within 1st method, otherwise only user apps are shown.
Freezing within TB works this way
Wow, fantastic. So I see that at the top right, there is a menu that lets you see system apps.
Awesome, thank you very much!!!
Well, I have found a new way. Using any root explorer, just go to system/app/OPBACKUP/ and rename OPBackup.apk to OPBackup.apk.bak and you are done...

Thank you! You helped me back with op 6. Any idea for op 8 pro, Android 11? They must have renamed the app, thank you!
You can use Titanium Backup to disable the updater...
