Legit Root Method? - OnePlus 6 Guides, News, & Discussion

First off, I'm not trying to offend or discredit any DEVs or the original author of this Guide. I'm only trying to verify if this is legit or not PRIOR to me sacrificing my 1+6. I treat XDA as the holy bible for all things Root related, and have not come across this Guide on here. So I'm not sure if the TWRP they are mentioning is legit or not.
Here's the link to the article: https://thedroidarena.com/root-oneplus-6-install-twrp-recovery/
TIA!
To clarify, the Root method is verified as they discuss Magisk method. I'm trying to clarify if the Recovery (TWRP) is legit. Thanks!

Legit? It's only unofficial, i think it's not about legit or not, it's about warranty and risk that may come imo

Wow I can't believe your asking this. Both of the TWRP and root methods in that article are taken straight from XDA.

Sorry for the stupid post, I didn't see any source credit pointing back to XDA. And the article never states that the TWRP being installed is "Unofficial" or not. So I just wanted to play it safe by asking the pros.
It's been so long since I've rooted/ROM'd any phone and to be honest reading the processes to accomplishing this on the 1+6 seems a little daunting.
MODs please delete or lock thread if you wish. My apologies for wasting everyone's time.

Refer this... Rooting HTC Desire is very easy if you follow this.
Considering that:
1. Tutorial already exists.
2. Stupid people will always ask stupid questions.
3. You made it.
... You're just promoting yourself. Clever approach, I must say.

Yeah I agree tutorial exists but in pieces. I just kept everything at one place so that New people could get some help. I know the pain of searching web for help while device is in middle of rooting process, stuck and no where to look.
in pieces? are you new here? at this point I see you have posted 29 posts already and you dont know this forum?

[Q] 3.18 Root Please Help

Hi guys, i just made an account with this website and may i say that this site is huge and full of amazing knowledge. I have been reading up on how to root my HTC One X AT&T version for about an hour now. The thing is i cannot for the life of me find a Step- by -Step procedure that thoroughly explains the process. If anyone here would please show me a link to one i would GREATLY appreciate it. I'm sorry about starting a new thread but i really cannot find an extensive write-up.
Thanks for the help. :good:
First off, this should be in the q&a section, not general. Secondly, the root method can be found in this very section you posted in, so you must not have looked very hard.

Sorry man. The thing is like i said, this will be my first time doing this. I've done jailbreaks but never a root on an android. Thus i need a Step -by- Step link which i could not for the life of me find. All i find are things like: 1. Do this on boot loader 2. Install this. 3. You're done
You should have a look at this thread, it's a resource thread so it has links to many useful topics. You should also Google something like adb/fastboot for beginners, you'll definitely need that.
If I have any advice to give, it is to read, read, and read some more. Knowledge is your friend. Jumping into something like this head first without having a working knowledge is very dangerous and could lead to you bricking your phone, and we don't want that.
Also, stay on XDA, don't get information from anywhere else. Other sites don't properly distinguish between our model (Evita) and the international One X (Endeavoru).

Yes an other noob questions

...
If your phone model isn't listed as an option, don't install that ROM. It will be the end of your phone. If you visit the Skyrocket Q&A forum and the dev forum for, well, any phone, there are loads of tutorials on how to flash safely. Please read them first and follow their instructions, along with the ROM instructions, or brick.
Unless you want to prove how 1337 you are. Then, by all means, install the ROM and prove us wrong.

Yea definitely seems like a better idea to follow the instructions for the specif ROM. Any recommendations on one? not looking for anything fancy just wanna get rid of the stock one and because for some reason my phone is currently on version 2.3.5 and i am not being able to install anything from the marketplace. so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Read the Skyrocket dev forum and decide for yourself. Recommending a ROM would be an insult to all the other devs who've put time, effort and sometimes money into designing their own.
im sorry i am just going nuts now with all the stuff ive been reading and i think i gotta take some steps back to make sure i got everything right.
i have clockworkmod 5. something and from what i was able to read i need the to update to the most resent version. So i found a copy of 6.0.4.5 but i am unsure on how to update it. Tried to put it in my sd and run it by booting into clockwormod recovery and installing the zip. it says it installed successfully but it is still in version 5.
Any help with the would be much appreciated

Seriously, dude, they're at the top of the page in the Skyrocket Q&A forum. I know you're new and I'll avoid verbally thrashing you, but if you don't learn to search (or, at a bare minimum, read the stickies), you're going to hate it here.

Looking for a detailed root guide for the s8 plus

I see tons of youtube videos but there is a high chance of those beeing outdated. I have a g955f model so im mainly looking for a detailed guide on installing twrp and magisk with all the latest links to everything i need for the rooting process.A guide will probably help me from bricking if i dont know what im doing halfway through.
Try searching here. There's already a guide and a thread about this.

No. Search for it. Theres a search box on the forums. Not trying to be a jerk, but forum rules state you are to search before asking a question. And, honestly, if searching for a thread is too much for you, the rooting process may also be too much for you.

It took me literally 30 seconds to find the thread here by searching. You can do it. I have faith in you.
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, snd he can find threads on his own on XDA.

Uh...okay. so you're just going to wait for someone to spoon feed you, rather than taking time to find the information on your own?

I guess asking for more information is spoon feeding to you eh? I was atleast informed enough to know i need twrp and magisk on a exynos model.

Asking for someone to write you a detailed guide when a whole thread exists regarding your question is asking to be spoon fed. Follow XDA rules, use the search bar, and do your own research.
Its selfish to ask someone else to do all the work for you, if you're not willing to put in the time to search and read the pre-existing thread.

Sorry to jump in here but the guys right, there is a search button and two rooting guides for both versions of the device on here all you have to do is search. . .
The Devs of these methods provide concise instructions for you to follow and apply to your device, its all done at YOUR own risk, Im sure he'd be very happy to help you if you get stuck and you PM'ed him but considering you've not even bothered to read the thread for rooting your specific device is enough to know not to get involved as other users wont appreciate being hounded because you've buggered something up.
people who have been rooting devices for several years will tell you all about the time spent getting the files and installing the correct drivers and software to achieve this and still be met by boot loops and or bricked devices that require RMA's back to specific OEMs or days spent in limbo trying to resurrect their devices.
As he already stated if you can't search and read through a thread that is rammed with tips and instructions rooting is possibly not worth the risk for you and your device
its always worth typing this into google "root samsung s8+ exynos xda"

I just looked at the OPs other posts. In his very short time here, he has already established a habit of asking questions rather than searching for the answer and then getting pissy when someone tells him to search or research.

If you can't find a root guide then i don't think you'll be able to follow it either...
In time it took to write all the messages in this thread, you could have rooted the device 3 times over

you could have checked the only twrp thread on this sub. its in development. progress is slow but steady since the kind devs have things to do so the final build will be released when its ready to be released. for now, all we can do is used fastboot for flashing and other things. btw, the thread is HERE.
thanks for the information. sorry I don't generally ask questions.
Mate, wrong place to create a thread.
Yes I have been made aware of that. I don't think I have authority to move it.
A lot of dickish replies here.
