Double tap screen to lock - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

I've always used Nova Prime as my launcher of choice and intend to stay with it.
Where as the oneplus launcher gets better and better with each update it still doesn't compare to Nova.
I've always previously rooted my devices, but I've decided with the new OP6 not to.
I'd like to use double tap to lock screen.
I've been using this option with Nova but without root, I can't unlock with fingerprint as it uses device admin to lock screen so needs pin unlock.
The oneplus launcher permits double tap to lock and then allows unlock with fingerprint sensor.
How can I get this functionality within Nova without rooting?

1, settings ->security.. -> device administrator.. -> nova launcher
2, If that doesn't´t work google search might bring you there: https://www.google.com/search?clien...ble+tap+to+lock+android+app&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8. I even tried this app before posting. And it works

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, unless I did it wrong when using this app (and all other luck even apps) to lock the screen I can't use my fingerprint to unlock it says locked by device admin and I have to enter a pin.
The double tap to look within the oneplus launcher enables fingerprint unlock.
I suspect it's a Catch 22 either root or use oneplus launcher which I don't really want to.
Hoping that the OP screen lock is an activity which I can call from Nova

Open Nova Settings, scroll down to 'Advanced' and click on 'Lock Method' (I think it's called that way in English, but not entirely sure since I use it in Dutch). Then, if you choose the 'wait 5 seconds' option, you can use DT2S without entering pin after unlocking it.
BTW: my phone is unrooted.

Yep, that works, although, do you find, that after unlocking the screen brightness is set to minimum?

Actually no. I've just tried it, with and without auto brightness...

Excellent... That'll do.. Nicely
That's the reason why I'm using Nova prime, options.

Screen Off and Lock + Trusted Device?

I've been using Screen Off and Lock forever to lock my phone using the swipe-up-from-home-nav-button (instead of the default Google Now).
After updating to Lolipop, I started using my Moto 360 as a trusted device and enabled a PIN lock on my phone. When I lock the phone with the power button and my Moto 360 connected, no PIN screen appears when I turn the screen back on.
However, if I lock the phone using the app Screen Off and Lock, the PIN screen always comes on when I go to turn the screen back on. This defeats the whole purpose/convenience of the trusted device bypassing the PIN. Anyone know how to fix this? Or know of an app that will work better?
It hasn't been updated since January so I imagine its just an incompatibility

I'm on stock rooted Lollipop and I'm running into a similar issue, but with face unlock instead of trusted device.
I have double-tap on Nova Launcher set to system lock using Tasker, and when I lock my phone using that, face unlock doesn't activate, and won't until I put in my PIN password and then re-lock using the power button.

I also tried locking my phone using Greenify instead of Screen Off & Lock, sam result. Perhaps there is a way to implement locking the phone that won't trigger the PIN to unlock? Or - and I hope this isn't the case - maybe there is no way to do this in 5.0?

I tried messing around with screen timeout in Tasker, but it doesn't let me set it to 0 seconds (for obvious reasons, I guess haha), since I noticed that letting my screen time out seems to work just fine for triggering face unlock. The lowest I can set it to is 7 seconds though, if I remember right, which is a bit too high for a screen off function.

Not sure this will be "fixed". All apps that are stating to lock the phone will actually do so, whether trusted devices are enabled or not. They act the same way as if you are on the lockscreen with the lock disabled by a trusted device and then press the lock symbol at the bottom, this also locks the device. This has been a problem forever, apps just work differently than the hardware power button.
As a fix you can try the following: Use another app to completely disable the lockscreen or keyguard (whatever your prefer) when a trusted device is connected instead of using the android built in feature.
If you are like me and want to use the new trusted devices feature of lollipop you can use Tasker as a workaround. Create a tasker task with the command "run shell --> input keyevent 26". This also requires root. Then you can use the app Home Button Launcher to set a shortcut to run the new task when swiping up. This is what I'm using and it works without any problem! I hope I could help.

Have you installed the latest superSU beta? The previous versions had problems with the new security features introduced by lollipop. If you're not using this latest version my solution won't work.

It worked! SuperSU beta did the trick.
Also, I didn't need a separate app to make a Home key shortcut, I just made a profile: Event -> UI -> Assistance Request -> add the Task with input keyevent 26.
Thanks!
Nothing against Screen Off and Lock as it's just doing what it's designed to do (and Lock after all) but this is a useful work around, thanks.

Thanks you guys. Now I feel more at home with Lollipop with my old habit. I couldn't stand that smart lock was disabled when I used other screen off apps (then again those haven't gotten an update for a while too).

There probably won't be. The app is called "... And Lock". Technically, it's doing what its supposed to.

Was searching for a solution and i found this thread! Thanks a lot!
So no hope for people like me who don't use trusted devices/places but use trusted face? Because I think even tasker can't do that with trusted face unlock.
Also looking for a solution to this with trusted faces on lollipop.

Avoid power button problems with LockScreen

As we can unlock our Nexus 5X with our fingerprint in a comfortable way, I think LockScreen is also great to lock the device from a (material design adapted) widget. And you can also use transparent widgets!
You can download it from Google Play (it's free!).
I've developed this app so, please, any feedback is welcome!
Best regards!

Doesn't work correctly on the 5X, once you have locked using the widget, you are then unable to unlock again with the fingerprint reader, you have to then use the keypad, that defeats the object of having a fingerprint sensor.

I'm pretty sure it does not... same issue with this.
Unless you create a widget that activate a root task to lock the screen, it will ask for the keypad.

Just tested it already too, does not work for me.
And it seems to be a known issue since 2 others thread are talking about it already
Maybe there's something you guys have done differently that make this work but I've done this :
1/ setting double tap on home screen with nova launcher to launch Greenify's Hibernate and Lock screen
2/ once device locked and screen turned off, puting my finger on the fingerprint. It does wake the phone but asks for the pin code which does not when you lock the phone with the hardware power button
And it's the same behavior with other launchers and apps that can turn off the screen

Any app that locks the screen, fingerprints doesn't work afterwards. It's not just this app.
Same thing happens when using Screen Off app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.matthijsvh.screenoff
mine is rooted and i use greenify "lockscreen+hibernate" widget without a problem

Nova Launcher / DT2S / Fingerprint Scanner Won't Work

When I use the Nova double tap gesture to lock the screen (using Greenify, Screen Off and Lock or Screen Off), I have to type in my pin to open the phone (it won't let me only use the fingerprint scanner). When I shut off the screen via the power button the fingerprint scanner is all that's needed . Do you guys know of a work around to use DT2S while being able to still use the fingerprint scanner to reawaken the phone?

Mine is working with Nova, you don't need Screen Off anymore, it's built into Nova for awhile now.
I noticed that but I still have to enter the pin after diuble tspping even though fingerprint is enabled. Weird.

same maybe it's something that we disabled that broke something?
So I had the same thing. Its actually greenify. Took me a while to figure it out because i was in the same boat. Uninstall that and try the built in app control. I'll still throw down between 5-6 hours screen time without greenify
I use the same exact setup and my fingerprint scanner works perfect.

It says when you use this why it does it, you'll need root to get around this issue and enable root mode in Nova Settings.
that doesn't make any sense. mine works completely fine by doing this. I never turn it off using the power button and I always unlock it with the scanner.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7 using Tapatalk
I tried it again with Greenify and the other double tap to lock apps uninstalled and set Nova to use its own lock device setting yet I still have to enter my pin when turning on the screen using the fingerprint scanner. It's bizarre.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
I have the same problem. Galaxy S7 + Greenify or Screen OFF, every time I have to enter the PIN too. It is very annoying. I hate to use the side button to shut off the screen, I need one of these apps to work properly with the fingerprint scanner.
same here, have to use the pattern after Nova's double tap lock.
I think the issue shows up if you are also using Smart Lock. I installed Screen Lock Pro and use it in the Nova gestures for double tap and it works great.

Correct. There is an option you need to select that I should have mentioned. Smart lock and Nexus imprint must be selected and then it will work. You do need the pro version.
Back on my G3 with Nova I had this same issue when I enabled Smart Lock. I also tried many apps and could not find one that worked. Glad someone on Reddit posted this solution

Cannot use fingerprint to unlock after using screen off app

Hi there,
I tried to use screen off apps on my SS S8, but when unlocking, it requested PIN numbers instead of using the fingerprint.
The fingerprint only works if we lock screen using the physical button or after timeout.
Do you happen to know any workaround for this?
I read a thread on S7, suggesting using Nova launcher with Screen Lock widget. But, is there any setting we can change to use other apps?
Many thanks,
Nghia
That's general security setting of Android. Happens to me on my OnePlus 3 when it's locked by Greenify. Simply ditch those lock screen apps.

Do you have a link to this app?
This one works for me:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gr.ictpro.jsalatas.screenoff
I tried those other ones and did not have luck.. either the app did allow fingerprint but did not turn the screen off in a reliable way.. or they required pin / password to unlock..
but just found this one and it works so far!

If this is still a question for anyone:
With nova launcher, you need to give it accessebility permission and choose in the nova settings to use a different lock screen method
The setting can be found in the nova settings by scrolling all the way down and choosing the last option in the advanced settings... Each option has an explanation for how it lockes the screen

Nova launcher/Fingerprint unlock

I'm guessing that many of you are using the Nova launcher. I'm struggling to consistently use a Nova gesture to lock the screen and then allow the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. Looked everywhere, tried Nova with/without device admin, Greenify alternative screen off, Nova screen timeout etc but the results always vary. Sometimes I can unlock using FP reader, mostly, I get device locked by administrator message.
Does anyone have a reliable way to allow to allow Nova screen off gesture and allow FP to unlock?

Does anyone have a reliable way to allow to allow Nova screen off gesture and allow FP to unlock?

You can unlock with FP only if you've root permission

ahaha imho root is always necessary
with root fingerprint unlock is working on my oneplus6.
you just need to specify the root method for unblocking.
Also, face unlock is working as well with nova.

NOT true, just set locking style in Nova to timeout, works flawlessly. I used it like this for few days, before I rooted my 1+6

Yes you're right but i don't like the "timeout" quest
I have been using nova prime with face unlock no problem all day today, just tested fp unlock and it works flawlessly too, do you have a modded version of Nova?

haha Crickets
FP unlock is working, but I needed to do the following:-
Set Nova screen lock method to screen timeout
Set Greenify to use alternative screen off mode
Lock screen set to 15 seconds after sleep
Power button doesn't lock immediately
Don't set Nova as a device admin.
Made the below tweaks to fix this on Realme X3.
1. Disabled screen lock under Nova Launcher>gesture settings
2. Enabled double tap to screen lock in device settings
3. Did a double tap to enable Nova launcher to perform screen lock using Accessibility Services
4. You have to allow Nova Launcher under the Accessibility Services
