Please don’t delete this topic it’s fair warning!
I hate to be right sometimes but as I told long ago after years of testing it turns out that the best camera of Samsung was in S6 / S6Edge+. Test it yourself. Hold S6 in one hand and for example S8 in the other and take a photo in good light. Then zoom it on the phone and you will see that S6 has better details, no artificial brightener while for example S8 has it.
S6 has 16 Mpix and all flagships that came after had 12 Mpix rear camera.
I’ve tested S6 Edge Plus vs. S7 / S8 / S8+, Note8, S9, S9+ and…
only S9+ finally beat S6. (look how Samsung did bad for us from Sep2015 till March2018)
I wish I had NOT sale my S6 and bought a newer one
If You don't believe me? Ask XDA members who has S6 and a later Galaxy S model (but not S9+)
This is a Warning for You don't sell your S6!!!! or sell only if you can afford to buy S9+.
I did the wrong thing so I Warn you no to make the same mistake that I did

Midnight Comparison Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge vs S5

Hello all!
Here is my comparison test between S7 Edge and the S5 in the night comparison (completly dark).
The S7 Edge is using Isocell sensor. And the results are awesome!
Leave my comments here, what do you think about that!
https://youtu.be/A-aHbMwLbjs
Galaxy S5 is still got good camera. IF YOUR looking for a bargain
In my opinion, the S7 Edge is a lot of better. I think, that videos will be in 80% the same (because S5 have good lowlight manage too, isocel sensor and more...), but when I saw the results (how you can see on my video) I stay amazed! I don't think that differences between this two phones can be so big.

[Discussion] Who's going for the plus variant ?

Also which device you currently own and are you planning to upgrade for the new Samsung's flagship ?
I will be preordering the plus.
Spent the last year suffering through an Alcatel Idol 4S.
I know, self inflicted wound.
Currently S8+. Going to get S9+. Thought about waiting for Note 9, but the updates to the camera and ram seem sufficient for me.
Upgrading from S7 Edge to the S9+
i just ordered s9plus yesterday on clove !
now, using s8.
but i worry about galaxy X...
Have an OP5T and I'm planning to order the S9+.
Just holding off a little bit as I want to see more about it when in use.
Going from S8+ to S9+ the camera and ram and speaker upgrade is all I missed on the S8.
Sold my S8+, using a OnePlus 5 temporarily.
Will be pre-ordering the S9+ as soon as pre-orders are open in Pakistan, which is on the 2nd of March.
Currently S8 and I've pre ordered S9+
Camera main reason, but also screen size as I end up watching a lot of video on my phone.
Ordered an S9+ yesterday. Currently on an S8 - mostly upgrading for the better camera and larger screen (for books, etc.).
Considered holding off for the X, but I'm expecting the price to make the S9+ look cheap!
I have the Note8 and will be getting the S9+.
I'm confused about getting the normal or the plus version.
I had a Pixel 2 XL and now I'm with a U11+; this would be my first Samsung ever, but I'm a little bit worried about the battery life, which in most threads I have read is kind of average.
Size is also weird, feel like the normal version is small and the plus is too large, not used to this new 18.5:9 ratio.
I don't care much about the dual camera, because the normal version gets also most of the good things.
Any advice would be more than welcome.
:fingers-crossed:
Ordering the S9+ for myself. Most likely will order the S9 for the wife (not a power user) so it should be sufficient for her
Proudly S7 Edge owner and now Pre-Ordered the S9+ and waiting for it to be delivered (hard time )

I originally struggled with the same question when the S8 and S8 plus came out. I finally purchased the S8 plus and in the end was glad I did. I have no questions now, I have ordered the S9 plus from Clove yesterday and am eager to get it. The size difference is really not that great between the two phones - and the benefit of 2GB more of ram and the Dual Camera make it all worth while. There is HUGE difference between a single camera and a dual camera. I have the note 8 too and the difference in cameras and options is significant. My advice is to go for the S9 Plus, you won't be dissapointed.
Going for S9+
Currently on S7.

What about the battery?, in most of the threads I see average consumptions.
I'm not a heavy user, actually, any $100 could do the job for me, but I buy flagships because I rely on the phone's camera a lot by not having a DSLR or any other kind of camera outside the phone.
I'm just a little bit worried about the battery because Samsung has fame of not giving the best results. People starts with 5-6 SOT and they end doing half after a couple of months.

Well, I can't comment on the S9plus battery because I don't have it yet - but I can say that with every Samsung phone that has been released, the battery has been better than the phone I had previously. I have the S8 Plus and the Note 8 (the note 8's battery is the same that is going in the S9plus) I can't give you a screen on time because I don't ever look - but I know I am very pleased with how it performs and I have never had an issue. I also expect the S9 plus to do even better than the Note 8 because of the improved processors and chips they are using, which will run much more efficiently. Honestly, I would suggest that you stop worrying - and jump in - the water's just fine.

When I had my S8+, I was regularly getting 7h of SOT for the 6-7 months that I had the first one. Then on my second S8+, same results. Pretty good battery life on the plus models.

Is the S7 still a decent phone?

The S7 can be had for $299.00 now at Walmart (Straight Talk version). Is it worth buying or just too obsolete? I mainly want to know if I can still root it and flash roms, etc. Would it be better to go with a newer phone that's more budget level, around $300? Thanks for any feedback!
Hello,
I can't help you with the "Straight Talk version" because I'm in France and I don't know what models you have in USA, so I can't tell you for sure about root and flashing roms (all I know is that it's more difficult on Snapdragon CPU models than on Exynos CPU models and I think in USA you only have Snapdragon CPU models).
But what I can tell you for sure is that the Galaxy S7 is not obsolete. I bought mine last year and I'm still using it everyday and very happy with it. It runs all games even the biggest and latest ones. I shoot photos with it and I'm very satisfied with the quality, even in low light conditions. It has many shooting modes, including pro mode to make your own photo settings, it has a very decent slow motion mode, hyperlapse mode, panorama etc...
It has a good size of 5.1 inches that can almost be used with one hand (and if necessary it has an options to reduce the image in the screen for easy one hand operation). So it's very nice to hold it. The screen itself as an Amoled display is beautiful, very vibrant colors and infinite contrast levels.
The fast wireless charging is really useful and you won't have to plug your phone anymore to charge it (of course, you have to separately buy a wireless charger).
Everything runs smoothly in all the apps I use (GPS with Google maps, Chat with Telegram, video recording (I've recently shot slowmotion videos of lightnings that are super cool), photo shooting (I also bought a set of lenses to shoot macrophotography of insects and everybody I show my pics to just say "wow"), take control of my PC with TeamViewer, use it as a remote control for Kodi with Yatse, play games, watch Youtube videos, and you can even, with the "multi windows" layout, do 2 things at the same time by separating the screen in half, like watching Youtube videos on the top, and chat with any messaging app at the bottom of the screen, or surf the web while chatting, or whatever you want. All of this, without any lag or slowing down.
So, if you buy a newer phone, what will you get?
- Better camera (small improvements every year, but check online for pictures shot with Galaxy S7 and you'll see that it doesn't have to blush in front of newest phones)
- Better CPU and performances (for what? play last games? the S7 already does it. Smooth interface? S7 already has a smooth interface)
- Bigger screen (yeah, that depends on your taste, to my point of view, smaller screen like this one (5.1 inches) is just perfect to hold in my hand and still decent to watch movies once in a while).
So, yes, to me the S7 is far from obsolete, and you can go for it but maybe the matter of difficult root and roms flashing can be a "stay away from it" for you. You should look for "root Galaxy S7 Snapdragon" over XDA forums or on the web and see for yourself if it's easy to do so ; )
I hope I've been able to help you and I'm sorry I can't tell you more about rooting and flashing roms (I personally have 2 years warranty on my S7 and if I root it, warranty is void, so I wait for next year for the end of the warranty period to root it, and debloat it (yeah, like many phones, it has some annoying bloatware, some can be uninstalled, most can be disabled, but some are not able to be disabled or uninstalled, but still, there are "debloat scripts" for the S7 around here on the forums, that doesn't even require rooting the phone).
If you have any other question or want more information about anything I said, just don't hesitate to ask : ) I'm sure some other people will come to answer you about the "root and flash roms" matter for that specific version you're talking about ; )
Have a nice day!
EDIT: I forgot to mention some drawbacks. Well, to me, it doesn't have many (or else I wouldn't have bought it):
- I regret having a Micro-USB charging port when it could have had a USB-C charging port instead (but as I use Fast Wireless Charging, it's not so bad in the end, just a regret as it's a flagship and it should have had all the top of high end techs of its time).
- Speaker sound (for listening to music loudly) isn't that good, but with a headphone, it's good.
- It's easy to find a protective case for it, but it's very difficult to find a screen protector that cover the whole screen till the borders and even the slightly curved parts of the glass (the screen is flat, but the glass that covers it is slightly bent on every sides and every corners), and sometimes when you're happy because you've found a perfectly fitting screen protector, it doesn't stick well on the curved parts. After 3 different brands, I finally found one that covers the screen entirely and which sticks on the curved parts.
- Another bad point is the bloatware, but again, scripts exist to debloat it, just sad it isn't debloated out of the box. It you want to root it, it'll mostly trigger the Knox detector and void your warranty.
That's all I see for now, and if I think about some other things, I'll come back to write them.
Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is still a very decent phone.
The S7, S8, and S9 have 4gb of ram, which is good for multi-tasking.
What's different from the S7 is that both the S8 and S9 have 64gb of storage space.
The S7 only has 32gb of storage (around 20gb is usable).
With a Micro SD card slot, storage shouldn't be an issue for the S7, S8, and S9.
The S8 and S9 are faster than the S7 and have better cameras from what I heard.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 would be worth buying it for around $300 if you are upgrading away from an old phone, or don't have a smartphone yet. If you have the money and don't mind spending $600-$900, then I would personally go for the S8 or S9 instead, because they are faster than the S7, have more storage, and have better cameras.
There are 2 versions of the Samsung Galaxy S7, the Snapdragon (US version) and Exynos (International or Global version).
Galaxy S7 (Snapdragon) vs. Galaxy S7 (Exynos) Speed Test - YouTube
The Exynos version of the Samsung Galaxy S7 is less bloated, has a better cpu, and is faster than the Snapdragon Version, but more expensive.
From what I heard so far, the Snapdragon version is not rootable at the moment. The Exynos version is rootable via TWRP or CF Auto Root.
If you want a rootable Samsung Galaxy S7, then try to get the Exynos version instead, and make sure not to buy a fake one.
I have an Exynos version of the Samsung Galaxy S7, which I bought it used for $350 from an eBay seller in Japan. It took a few weeks for it to arrive, and the phone is legit, not a fake S7. I was able to root it via TWRP method. After a few weeks of using it, I decided that it's not really worth rooting anymore just to block ads, and flashed a stock rom back on it to unroot it. The only reason why I want to root my S7 in the first place was to block ads with AdAway. But with Adguard (not free, $25 lifetime or $10 a year), root isn't require. I didn't mind paying $25 for the lifetime premium.
Here are some other good reason why it's not worth rooting the Samsung Galaxy S7 anymore in my opinion:

The zoom function is not a good example for comparison between cameras. Neither is the amount of megapixel, of which apparently they decided to keep it at 12mp. for the time being.
So if you want more mp, and better photos, then get a professional camera.
As for reviews from reputable sites, those claim the s8 and up are better than their predecessors.

Should be something like regret of selling s6 for s8. Or camera s6 better than s8.

The problem is I am not a camera phone fanatic.
And coming from a op5 who has supposedly has an even worse camera and I do not see the difference.
Having that said you are ranting other people to not buy a phone because you have issues with one part of the s8(+) that is why I think topics like this should not exist.
A phone does have other things than a camera you do know that. Wanting wordclass foto's and then trying to shoot them with a smartphone
i have both and and its not true i stil have both phone and my s8 plus has way better camera than my s6 specially in low light low light pictures have lots of nois in s6 and even day light pictures s8 takes better picture when how many times you going to zoom a picture more mega pixel doesn't mean a good camera .

So how do You explain my 1000 pics expermenting S6E+ vs. the new Galaxy S devices? I did it from the emerge od S7 till the launch of S9/S9+
The purpose of this post was to warn all of ppl that DO want to use only smartfion to take pics.
I have no agenda against S8. I just know that a lot of ppl are massivly abandoning S6 cause they think that cam will be significntly better on a newer Galaxy. Out of my good heart I want to spare them the dissapointment.
Like I said if a person wants to change S6 only for pics quality reason they should buy nothing less than S9+ otherwise they will be sadly dissapointed.
You are a very bad android boy for posting this :3

I can agree with this statement. As a current ow er of an s6 edge+ I can say photo quality is lacking compared to my sister's s7 and my friend's s8. That 4 Megapixel count really doesn't make a difference when it comes to smartphone photography.
Cool thanks for that, I'll sleep better tonight

During years with my 1000 photos taken by S6EPlus from launch od S7 till launch of S9/S9+ I did it for myself cause Samsung kept on saying that that the photo quality is better in good light than previous S models. So I went to the electronics shop. I one hand I had my phone and in the other the newer Galscy version. I joined hands, pointed forward in the same linear direction and I have taken a photo with both (same options on both, for example HDR). Then I opened in both phones the gallery and I looked very intesnly with no zoom and with zoom whsat the quality was.. the S6EPlus won with all but not with S9+. But I did not have the photos from these other models troughout the years cause I was doing it for my self to check my theory that Samsung will be lying about much camera improvment.
Hence no photos. I wasnt planing then to warn everybody. I myself wanted to buy S7E and all the next phones cause I beleived that maybe the next and next model with have a batter cam. I waited 3 years, 3 generations till the emerge of S9+ that I can truely say that in good light S9+ makes better photos than my S6E+. I was planning to buy it but I didnt have enough money
This is stupid and your S6 is a crappy, obsolete phone. I'm sorry.

htc one m7 in 2013 can take better photos than your funny s6 !!!
you are in sleep or dreams....
Unfortunately You are just taking care about details(in good light).
S6 fails in dynamic range, low light conditions, color reproduction against S7.
I did compare it with my S7E along time ago.
