Flash Going Backwards? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note5

I am fairly new to the whole process of flashing ROMs. I am aware if you have android 7.0 and go back to 6.0.1 I will lose service, I've already dealt with that issue. If I go to a custom ROM will I face the same issues? I am not having much luck finding a ROM based on 7.0, so options are very limited if not able to go backwards. thanks

4.3 1535 - vrucml1 - Custom ROM

Hi Experts,
I'm trying to load a custom ROM.
I did the useless hting of OTA update of the 4.3
I did this ROM Changing thing long back and I even once bricked my Phone.
I have to go to a local store and get it fixed.
SO I don't want to do that mistake once again.
I have Alliance ROM, and my chances are a lot limited, if my Booklooader is Locked or something.
Can anyone please let me know if anyone found out a way to unlock the bootloader, or we don't have any options other than to go for the 3-4 ROMS that are available??
Thanks a lot for Your help.

Bootloader is not unlocked if you are on the official 4.3 OTA or higher. And most likely no one will ever find a way to unlock it. You are restricted to using one of the safestrap compatible ROMs.
I realized that the 4.3 Bootloader cannot be unlocked.
But when I'm trying to load a ROM, basic things are not working.
My basic doubt is, if anyone upgrades to 4.3, will the most basic 2 features in the phone,
1. making calls and
2. Wifi,
Will they work or not?
I'm confused here.
But my experience with Alliance ROM is the worst.
Worst Support, Very few users, useless ROM, FULL OF COMPLICATIONS.

The dev provided 2 years of support from preorder to early/mid 2014. There aren't many Verizon S3 users left, it is a 2+ year old phone and Samsung has made this phone increasingly more difficult to mod as time passed. Those of us that are able to help, basically help blindly because we don't have locked bootloaders on our phones. Your anger should be directed at Samsung not us.
Now, with any VRUCML1 rom installed using Safestrap you have two options:
1) Flash the VRUCML1 rom, choose stock VRUCML1 kernel, then flash the VRUCML1 kernel modules to enable wifi. VRUCML1 kernel modules are in the Safestrap thread. Failing to flash the kernel modules will leave you with no working wifi.
OR
2) Flash the VRUCML1 rom in Safestrap and choose Safestrap kernel. Then boot into the rom and see if wifi works without flashing kernel modules.
If you took the VRUCNC1 4.3 OTA, you need to do a lot more work because none of the above will enable wifi for you at all. Lastly to answer your question, yes Samsung crippled this phone to the point that users will have no working wifi if they do not flash the kernel modules for their respective OTA BEFORE booting into the rom.

inactive due to borked s5....... upgrade possibilties

Ok,,,,here is my plight...
about 6 months ago my s5 became unusable due to the fact that concrete and GS5's dont play well together...becoming more and more frustrated having to use an older phone (HTC ONE M7) i went ahead and threw caution to the wind and bought a new LCD digitizer for my GS5 and hoped for the best...
replaced my digitizer and VIOLA !! my phone booted and was exactly the same as it was the day before concrete and LCD collided..
after booting it up went in to check everything and all seems well....root was still good,,,just had to upgrade everything and move on..
my problem is that since it has been a while there have been so many changes as far as updates,,ROMs,,and other techniques i need to find out the steps to take and what would be my best plan of attack..
i am on MOAR v2.2 NE5 and when i installed that back when i first got the phone tripped KNOX,,but i dont think that is too much of a concern at this point...or is it ??
i have read alot of things about going to Lollipop but am not sure if i need to do anything except find a Firmware and flash it with Kies or if ODIN is a better way to go....it would be great if i were able to just jump right to MM but i know the chances of that happening are <0....
any help would be appreciated
thank you in advance
Well the latest version for this phone currently is Marshmallow, and there is a great mm n5 rom that is still a work in progress, but i reccomend downloading the full marshmallow restore tar file and using odin to update, then flash recovery, and then a rom of your choosing (currently the n5 rom or a version of cm13). But to flash a lollipop rom download the OK4 lollipop restore file (last version of lollipop 5.0) and do the same process.
hadn't heard much so i went ahead and downloaded an OK4 firmware and flashed with ODIN....works flawlessly setting up now
surprisingly enough,,,it kept all of my settings from MOAR.....hafta say that i am shocked.....gotta love Android

Restoring Cell service after installing rom 7.1.1

I was running Mokee 7.1.1 just fine on PB1 firmware... which was probably my first mistake. (not 100% sure) as of now
phone is currently G900V Kltevzw bootloader unlocked, TWRP recovery, updated bootloader to PL1 w/SS
I'm having issues getting service when I flash a new rom most of them have no service i've messed with APN settings.
I felt I was a pretty competent user, i've come from flashing and rooting back from the original Moto Droid, I'd like to know what i'm doing wrong
as of now my phone is useless :crying: with no service so i reverted to my S4 lol
I'd appreciate any help and guidance to bring service back to my phone on MM or Nougat firmware which i have been running for a month or so
i don't really know how to help you but I have the same same s5 as your and running mookee 7.1.1 and my cell service still works i dont know if its a problem with the latest update and i have not updated to pl1....so maybe that may give a hint.

I ran across this once.. not from 7.1 (forget what I did actually) .. no spc / min / etc.. Odin flashed back to stock, problem fixed itself.. flashing through TWRP wouldn't do it.. after that had to go through the steps of unlocking bl / etc again.. on CID 15

Interesting... I may have to set aside some time to do that. What stock version did you flash? Since I'm on PL1 firmware would you think that make a difference as to what stock youre going to?
I'll have to do some more research as to how I should go about flashing stock then unlocking the BL again. Not sure if I can because of my updated bootloader..
I experienced similar issues with my g900v but mine was with texts being severly delayed and crappy service.. but atleast I still had service. I just finally fixed it this morning by completely flashing back to stock (PB1) and rerooting. I used this guide and started at the very beginning: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370/
Follow it and you should have your problems fixed.

Thanks!!! I'll Slowly start doing this after I post this. Hope to have a good outcome.
If you haven't started yet, I found an easier "how to" here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...ewbies-guide-to-install-pb1-rom-root-t3481826
It includes all the info from the link I posted yesterday but also includes the steps to update to PF4, which I'm about to do right now. Hopefully the delayed text and crap service problems don't return with updating, if so I will post the outcome.

I've already ran a few different roms but haven't really found one I liked enough to stick with. I used Phoenix v15 for a few months then switched to the new 7.1 resurrection remix nougat ROM a few weeks ago. I'll probably go back to nougat unless I start having service issues again. Good luck
I'm still not getting either or one of the two data and cell service. SMS/MMS wont work. Still dont know what is wrong exactly. PF4 updated BL
Not sure if i need to flash a radio or something in odin to get service to work....

Recommendation for Oreo and maybe Custom ROM

I'm not really a very advanced user, but always had rooted devices and two that I flashed Custom Roms. This is my first Samsung, finding Touchwiz to be very different from what I used before.
I bought the S7 (930F) and had the news that it was going to be updated to Oreo, so I decided waiting for the update before tinkering with it.. But the update never came. Finally this month Samsung released the update for my region, so I would like to know which would be the best way for me to start finally using my phone that I bought for over 2 months!
My phone is still with Nougat, is it better for me to get the OTA or to flash the Firmware I downloaded from Sammobile? Any of these methods better than the other in preventing errors? I always found in PCs that a fresh clean install was better than an update, but with mobiles I don't have the experience to say.
My main objective is to experiment before doing a debloat as I'm still not sure what might be useful for me on Samsung's bloat (you are welcome to point me what is useful and what is not).
I did see that some of the Customs ROMS have different camera apps and some people were complaining about this, I particularly liked the S7 camera app and the Pro option, that's what holds me back in flashing a Custom ROM atm.
I would like to Root and I find Unlocked Bootloader to be useful to have Xposed Framework and other things that I can do having it.
As I'm a relative newbie, what would you guys recommend me doing? Please help
tl;dr: I want to have Oreo, be able to debloat, want to root and unlock bootloader, not sure about Custom Rom.
Lineage if you want basic and simple (sort of like stock Android). Resurrection Remix if you're a customisation nut (not a slam... I use RR).
If you wonna full samsung u need flash base firmawre custom roms only 8.0 android
If you dnt need samsung integration (pulsometr doesnt work) you can flash 8.1 roms try cosmic os or Lineage 15

Would a custom kernel (looking at superkernel) work on a stock but rooted firmware?

I took a break but Ive been playing around with trying to downgrade my s7 to marshmallow, despite the bootloader not letting you. I can get everything to work, except for vibration... it does a quiet beep instead. but haptic feedback is a must for me, as well as ringtone and vibrate mode
But i just wondered, if anyone has tried using this, or another recommended custom kernel, to enable full function of marshmallow samsung stock rom? did you experience any negative side effects from doing so?
Im not new to rooting but fairly new to understanding how firmware and samsungs new bootloader lockdown works... (unlocked should mean you can install whichever firmware youd like as long as its for your specific device, but thats a whole other rant...)
I enjoy the look of touchwiz and really enjoy the samsung themes, so I dont want to go pure stock at all... but if this is possible/works it may be the perfect middle ground.
Thanks
Ive tried playing with editing the stock nougat kernel into the stock marshmallow rom, but none of my PCs support virtualization, which is required to run linux in an emulator in order to finally truly see whats inside of those .img files... this is a dead end approach for me short of buying a new PC which isnt going to happen anytime soon.

You can flash any kernal to a rooted device as long as that kernal is for the exact same device and firmware. Flash via Odin, make a complete back up before, if it all goes wrong, flash the back up.
