No signal/ No service little Solutions - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello, I would like to present my solution to the no service problem.
Some two weeks ago "no service"show on my phone, I tried many ways to solve the problem:
-I tried different sim cards
-I changed my ROM with LGUP
-I make ROOT on the phone
-I change modem file
-I change modem options i Hidden menu
Nothing helped !!!But today I restored the phone(H990DS) to life and I would like to share my solution.
First of all, the symptoms my phone has had:
-No service
-signal strength 0dbm 99asu
-inpossible RAT in hidden menu and network mode
-impossible to change BAND in hidden menu
My solution
In my case, the problem turned out to be hardware, although I thought it was a software
First, we take out both covers with antennas . We unscrew four screws from each cover and pull them by pulling or slightly undermining.

at this point, when I switched on the phone without covers / antennas, this one tried to go to the network and I could choose RAT and mobile network.
Tthere was a lot of dust and other **** under the covers!
I cleaned everything nicely with a brush. Then I cleaned all the marked pins on the phone and in the covers with alcohol.
Using a small flat screwdriver, I slightly raised the pins on the motherboard for a better contact.
Later I turned everything back and my phone is working properly
I think that the muck caused resistance and the modem turns off the transmitter so as not to damage it. I hope my solution will help someone, sorry for my English.

Same Problem
I've the same exact problem with the same model. The pictures in your post are not visible. May you please, re-upload the pictures or send them by email?
My phone is a brick

I found a few old photos on google drive.
After pulling the battery cover, you can see 8 screws from the plastic covers / antennas. You unscrew the screws and pull the covers until they come off. You can undermine them, it's easier to go down but there is a risk of damaging something. I do not have v20 anymore, in my case the way I described helped about 2 months. After this period the problem occurred again and helped replacing the motherboard ordered in China (the new motherboard had a problem with the zyroskop ). I hope you will have more luck, it was a very good phone if it was not for defects.

NFC fix

Hello everyone. I don't know if it was discussed earlier but I was searching on xda and google and found a lot of questions about nfc but no exact answer. It seems to be a lot of people across the internet meet the problem with NFC being either greyed out or refusing to turn on at all if not on stock then rooted rom etc. I had a problem with nfc since I bought one with cracked screen on ebay and replaced the screen. A friend of mine was complaining about nfc and scratched lens on camera of the back frame. I ordered a new frame from international galaxy s3 and it didn't want to fit perfectly but nfc started to work. Before replacing the frame I tried to root/unroot the phone, restored again back to factory mode and replaced the battery but nothing worked. First test if it's going to work for you.
1. Remove battery back cover, battery, sim-card, sd card
2. Unscrew all the screws from the back frame and remove the frame.
3. Put the battery back, turn on the phone and test nfc without the frame.
If nfc started to work then your problem is in the frame. It seems to be verizon is using a different frame from other galaxy s3 models.
All you have to do is tape the contacts on the phone at the bottom:

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And tape the contacts on the back of the frame as well so they don't short each other:
On the second picture you can see the difference of the contacts between frame from international (on the left) to verizon (on the right).
They are different and contacts shorting each other. International frame does not sit quite right and holes for battery clips are smaller also so the battery door does not properly close:
why would my nfc short out after rooting or flashing a rom

That I don't know. As I said I bought the phone broken and replaced the screen. NFC was working for a few days then every time I was turning it on it was in gray color (like disabled) but z-device showed me that nfc is in good working condition. While searching throw forums on google I found out that quite a few people did have the same problem. Most of them simply sent the phone back by the warranty. You can see that connectors are totally different for verizon version comparing to others. And it was working perfect when I switched the frame from international version but it just simply did not want to fit the right way. That's why I thought it would be nice to ask people who have the same problem if that would be a solution. Most of the time I read things like rooting from 4.1 makes this problem and rooting from 4.0 solves it.

[Q] No signal after screen replacement: Damaged motherboard?

I was doing a screen replacement on a Nexus 5 and a small part from the motherboard fell off.
3 pictures to illustrate the problem here:
http://min.us/mKOC4FQe6F0HI
Afterwards, the mobile connection was a lot worse than before. Now, 2 weeks later, the phone's connection has become unusable and it constantly shows no service. Only very rarely does it have any sort of connection (Edge/3G/H/4G).
Questions:
1)What is the part that came off? (see album above) My knowledge is a bit limited but I'm quite sure it has to do with the connection? I notice there are 3 other parts exactly like this spread over the motherboard.
2)Can I repair it? Do I glue it back on? Do I solder it on? Does it somehow click on? (I have tried if it clicks but this part is so tiny it's almost impossible to really handle
3)Based on my explanation, do you think this tiny part is the only cause? The phone still had some connection at first but it got worse. I'm also planning to order replacement antenna cables to see if that helps.
Thanks in advance!

In my case.. I had to replace the charging circuit Cuz it was 'broken' as described by the cellphone shop.. It has connections to the antenna.. Now phone is fully working.. Before that though, I tried different sim cards with different companies (bell Rogers and fido) all worked on my phone except my carrier sim card (mobilicity). After replacing the circuit I just mentioned everything works fine. Cost is 25$
Needs solder it's an rf trimmer /radio frequency. It's vital to an ariel of one type or other. If you want to risk a bodge assemble everything except the back and hold it in place with bluetack. If it works I was going to say epoxy it but don't. Get someone to solder it. It's easy to do if you have the skills.
Oh vital it's right way round and has now been turned. There should be a slot for tuning it.

[Q] Graphic problems with p5100 10.1"

Hi,
I got this weird problem and im not sure is this a hardware problem or not. For example. when using menus with white background, the background goes partly blue. Sometimes the graphic error is only blue lines in some part of the white background.
but when checking one option in same menu the background turns normal or atleast there is some change in the background. So these errors reacts only when changing options. And theyre always in the same position when going the same menu.
Also when using camera. the view is messed up a bit. there is a clear line somewhere in the picture when going dark to bright. With my english its hard to explain especially when i dont have any idea what is causing this problem.
Below are two attachments that explains the problem much clearer than i can write:

}
And before you ask. Yes, it has dropped and i have replaced the glass. But i got it with broken glass so i dont know was it like this before it dropped and the previus owner couldnt tell either.
Any possible solutions?
Thank you in advance!
Sounds like a hardware issue, just for the heck of it I would open it up and check the ribbon cable to the digitizer/screen, it could be loose.
Pp.
Checked it. Same problem. Tried to change brightness level, hard reset, rooting etc with no luck.
Its just so weird that in some situations the screen looks totally normal. only these few situations cause errors in the screen.
Hmmm, there are dialer codes that are used on phones that run a series of tests to check screen performance and output, don't know if this can be done on a tablet, but I would research it.
The only other time I heard of this was on a phone that recovered from falling in a toilet, the phone was dismantled and cleaned and assembled and it worked fine for over a year, the only glitch was an occasional color spasm on the screen similar to what you discribe.
Pp.
Thanks for the tip! Need to look for those codes when i get back home. I removed the logic board and cleaned it with denat. alcohol. No visible damage at least! trying to assembly it back later today. I decided to order a new LCD flex cable. Its the cheapest part to change.
No luck with the codes i found. after cleaning still same graphical problems. Now i can only wait the new flex cable and hope it will fix those errors.
Anyways thanks for replys and suggestions. :good:

Alcatel Idol 3 6039H - GSM signal problem

Here is what happened:
I got a week old phone with a broken screen.
Decided to try to fix it so I ordered a spare screen from eBay. After 2 Weeks display finally arrived so I changed it my self by following a YouTube tutorial.
Everything worked flawlessly except new display had 4 dead spots on a touch screen so I complained and got a new one.
I changed it again and this time screen was OK but I can't get GSM signal, so I dissassembled it and assembled once again but still no change.
Tried different sim card-nothing happened.
Tried to register network manually but it doesn't work.
Plane mode ON and OFF is not helping neither.
Phone recognise a card, asks for PIN, PIN OK but still no signal.
Anyone has an idea is there a way to improve or boost GSM signal? Or to fix "receiver"?

Update about phone:
I wondered how my friend managed to crack a screen just buy stepping on it, and now I know.
I had to screw a shelf today, and while holding a screwdriver in one hand, and shelf in other, the only option to get some light was to put a phone with flashlight on between my teeth. Same second I've "bite" my phone, I heard "crack" sound, and the corner of my screen was broken. Now I know there is no gorilla glass here, and can easier understand the price difference of Alcatel and my Galaxy S6.

How do i fix broken button solders joints? (Reviving a dead Nexus 5X with baking)

Hi forum,
a friend of mine gave me his completely dead Nexus 5X (no important data) and i wanted to see if i can revive it. I baked it in an oven according to information online and now at least it charges properly but i think i burned the (power) button solder joints. (Summary)
With dead phone i mean really dead. No lights, LED, screen or any sign of life.
Since there was nothing to lose i looked up an iFixit teardown and disassambled the phone until i had the motherboard on it's own.
As according to various online guides / posts i removed the heat cover / heat sheet of the CPU and those other elements (probably GPU? i don't know what they are), then covered everything but the CPU die with aluminum foil and heated the CPU with a normal old hair dryer for about 2 minutes.
To my surprise it actually showed the charging icon and attempted to boot once (it had a boot loop previously) but after about a minute it went back to completely dead.
Then opened the phone again and took out the board, put it on baking paper inside a glass thingy that you use for baking and put it in a ~180°C pre-heated oven for about 9 minutes.
Once everything cooled down after 30 minutes i reassembled the phone and it actually charges normally without any problems.
Unfortunately the phone does not seem to react to any (power) button(s).
From the reference images from iFixit i think that baking the board probably blew off / burned some sort of resistor (i have no idea what it might be) which you can see in all the images in detail.

Now look at one of the pictures i took:
You can view this image and all the other photos i took in this imgur album:

Here's an image containing the important close up photos edited onto the overview image so you can see details without guessing where it is on the board. I had to remove the background to make the jpg be accepted by imgur.com:

Any and all ideas and recommendations are appreciated, i might edit this post to include microscope pictures tomorrow.
