Best Android phone I bought ever - OnePlus 6 Guides, News, & Discussion

I sold my iPhone 8 and Mi6 to buy OP6 and she didn't disappoint me

I am myself thinking of moving-on from my iphone-7 . Just wanted to know if the phone is too to use in one-hand as iphone is a very small device...

no. OP6 is more bigger than iPhone 4.7'' version. i use one hand to handle the phone and another hand to tap on the screen

Depends on your hands, mate!
I've switched from my beloved OP3 to the 6(midnighht black, 8/128GB) and I can still use it with one hand most of the time and my gloves a usually size M. Actually the navbar is even better to reach with the thumb as on the OP3 because of the missing FPS.
I've installed Nova Launcher pro and with a few additional gestures for notifications and quick settings there is no need for a 2nd hand anymore. I've also installed an app called SwipePad which is an overlay launcher with app shortcuts and other things displayed when I swipe from the right.
This way I have the most important apps, contacts and so quickly and easily accessible.
Still only with one hand!
The 6 has also an alternative way to navigate based on swipe gestures which also works fine. But needs some time to internalize the gestures.
The only thing which ****ed me up is the FPS on the backside! An invisible one below the display would be hell lot cooler!
But thats like crying on a high level because the rest like camera, display, performance and user expirience is top notch and it feels incredible speedy with absolutely no lags till now.
To to be honest, I got it yesterday morning and I did not even found enough time to unlock it till now, lol! But I've played with it for around 10-12h or so from setup wizard, applying my settings, copying music from pc and the rest was a bit gaming, two benchmarks, some camera tests, aso. ... Unlock & root is a weekend job and will be done tomorrow
For 576€ incl. international express shipping it's a pretty good deal.
Unfortunately there is no Bullet v2 or wireless Bullet headset included like mentioned in the international press. But there is a free TPU case...

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S6's Touch ID/Fingerprint Reader is Garbage!!!!

Does anyone else have this issue?
OK, so I have had an iPhone 6 so I have had a chance to use Touch ID on an iPhone and it works flawlessly. Even if you don't want to use Touch ID on an iPhone you can still use your 4 digit PIN. The Galaxy S6's Touch ID is always saying "No Match." Sometimes my fingerprint works but the majority of the time it doesn't. I followed the directions and put it in right but it's just garbage. Then as if that isn't annoying enough when using the Galaxy S6's Touch ID if you don't get it right you have to put in a password, not a 4 digit pin which would've been easier a password which I think has to be a minimum of 5 characters and a number/special character. So that's pretty annoying. I just took the security off my phone, but I am not going to lie when I had my iPhone I got used to having the Touch ID as my security and it was nice!
Another huge issue I have with this phone is that it has 3GB of RAM and it runs at like70-90% of RAM used all the time. So this thing is a RAM hog. The good news is that I have already rooted my Galaxy S6 so when custom ROMs come out that should take care of the RAM issues, but the bad news is that there are no custom recoveries or custom ROMs available for it yet so I am awaiting that anxiously. Hopefully a stock based custom ROM cause I do like a lot of the features but it is too bloated. The only time a droid is better than an iPhone is a rooted droid with good custom ROMs available for it.
Other than that the phone is good. Camera was a little hyped up. I find it to be right on PAR with the iPhone's. Depending on lighting sometimes it takes better pictures than the iPhone sometimes it doesn't. The display is nice but really on a phone anything over a 1080p is overkill. Multitasking with Windows is cool. I wish they integrated S-Voice into a button push but you still have to press the app or say your command which is a hit or miss. It's a good phone, come on custom recoveries and custom roms!!!!
thats fine for the ram, unused ram on android is pointless.
you can use google now instead of S-voice. (works even with the screen off)
with the s6 camera you can do things manually, idk if the iphone camera has that much customization

Well it seems you are the only one with the this issue. ALL of the tech reviewers have said the fingerprint scanner on the S6 is as good or better than touchid. I have an IP6+ and touchid works great but not perfect.
Ram issues coming from a apple fan. Now that is funny. Do you know how and what ram is used for? Unused ram is wasted ram. Unused ram is a wasted resource. Your phone should use most of the available ram and then swap out apps as needed.
The camera has been reviewed as better than the iphone 6 camera. It has OIS and more MP. You can crop and zoom and not lose much.
After reading your little rant one has to wonder why you got a S6 at all? You are obviously an apple fan. No problem with that they make great products. But why the rant? Just to set the record straight.....my Note 4 (non rooted) is better and faster and more functional than my 6+. To each his own........
Because your device unit has a problem with the fingerprint sensor you decided that on all S6' will be rubbish? Considering the fact that you are the ONLY ONE who speaks of such happenings (honestly, I never read before about something like that), I'd recon you got a faulty phone. Try and return it.
But rereading your post I have one suggestion - sell the S6 and stick to the iPhone 6. The Galaxy is not a phone for you. Plus it is more than obvious that you are an Apple fan (nothing wrong with that, but you can be more subtle about it in the S6 forum, because as you might have guess already - here the majority don't like them for various of reasons) so if you stick with the i6 it is two kills with one shot - you get the better phone for you, and you are still loyal to the brand you like
Probably need to set your fingerprint up again, with all angles you think you'll press the button, not just the same one over and over again. Give it some options, and it will be nearly flawless.
Cool story bro. My fingerprint scanner works just fine.

Yup me too... just as good as my iPhone 6.
OP I can totally send pics proof that I do indeed have an iPhone 6 /s
Yeah, what another person already said:

opposite here ive had a bad time with my note 4, so ive been using my 6+ more.
im upgrading to the S6 to hopefully get a decent android phone.
Only 1 comment:
I never needed an App like clean master. Not on the s4 not with the s5 and I can hardly believe I will need it when my S6 Edge will arrive.
That's it. Strange to see so many Apple Fans here...

LOL... I'd say the only reason the iPhone sensor feels better is because of the recessed home button whereas the S6 it poping out making alignment a slightly larger issue.
Both are equally good for me though.

Yep......i love touchID on my 6+. From everything I have read the fingerprint scanner on the S6 is just as good. Can't wait to et mine on friday!
I like the home button on the Note 4 because it is thinner and longer allowing for smaller bezels.

The S6 has a taller not as wide button like on the S5. But it is just hardly enough for the reader. I couldnt see the Note button being used for this sensor.

I'm calling it - this is the best android device money can buy right now.

Four things have made it a done deal for me;
1 - Screen/Camera are well within the spectrum of 'good enough'
2 - A native, very quickly accessible, one hand mode
3 - The BATTERY LIFE. I am at 6.5 hours of screen on time with 23% left, while being unplugged for almost 48 hours.
4 - The Performance. There is something very pleasing to know that my device is currently #1 in the antutu benchmarks.
BUT, there are caveats, and here are my "must do's" to make this a damn near perfect device;
You absolutely have to flash the international version of the ROM if you bought the Chinese version. Unless you are Chinese and/or in China, the Chinese version of the ROM is full of Chinese-only language modifications. Also, the Chinese version has a permissions blocker built in that will make life a living hell.
Install a third party launcher. Google Now Launcher and Nova are good options. Personally, I don't mind having no app drawer, but my issue is more so with the icon layout. In a screen this large, the icon layout should be at least 6x6, and the native launcher will not go that high.
Use the "Smart" power plan, under settings, advanced settings, battery manager. Then, white list apps that you want to run while screen off, by adding them to "protected apps".
Under settings/display, set the view mode to "small". This is a personal preference. I don't buy a large screen device so everything is bigger, I buy them because I want more screen real estate. That option effectively lowers the DPI giving you exactly that, more real estate.
Schedule power off and on times. This is also a huge feature for those trying to save battery life. I have mine set to power off at 12am and on at 7am. Though you should only lose about 5% at night anyway, gaining that 5-10, even 15% back over the course of 3 days makes a difference.
Add the floating dock button to you quick settings drag down. This is similar to PIE controls found in custom roms or xposed modules, except the button stays on screen. Very useful for one handed operation on a 6" device.
Enable the one hand UI and use it. So far this is the best native implementation of a one-handed mode that I have seen in an android device. Why stock android doesnt include one yet is beyond me. But this is about as quick and simple as it is on the iphone... just swipe the nav bar right or left to shrink the contents of the screen to the right or left side (a-la samsungs one hand mode, just with a better gesture).
Configure the double-tap-volume down button to snap a picture in the camera settings. It won't be the best focused picture in the world, but its very useful and if the picture sucks, you can just take another one.
This is obvious, but use the finger print reader. It is the best one I have found on an android device yet (I beleive it is the same as the 6P). Very, very quick and touching it unlocks the device without the use of a power button. Also, enable the finger print reader snapshot feature for selfies in the camera.
The only real down side I have found to this device is that permissions can still be a bit annoying, even with the international ROM. It seems to block permissions that I never got prompted to allow or block, and I have had to manually go into the permissions section of the settings app and allow permissions that I was never prompted for. One other frustration is that, even with the sort of odd SoC configuration they sued, you still can't use "Ok Google" from screen off. Other than that, the device is fantastic, even with the EMUI skinning (I actually like the notifications panel on it). Some of the "Smart assistance" features are nonsense (knuckle stuff? come on), but they don't have much of an impact on the user experience... especially since you won't use most of them.
nice sum up and i agree, this device is absolute awesomeness lets just hope the devs will get on board at some point...
this device just like the mate 7 is great hardware wise but software wise....... no! the good thing is the MM kernel has been released so congratulations to you guys!
I would love to get this device if it didn't have the price tag of a premium phone withiut premium specs (camera and screen..). The lack of third party developers is the nail in the coffin. I wan't a device that can run the latest and a clean version of Android 3-4 years from now and for that this seems not to be the the device to get.
I might get a Nexus 6P even tho it looks like a pile of boiled cr*p.

I agree that it's the best device I've owned so far. I have no problems with the Chinese firmware. There is nothing left in Chinese after I play around with it. The camera could be better. For some reason the gallery sharpens the photos and they look great until you view them on something else like a PC and they end up being slightly washed out and blurry (photoshop fixes it most of the time though) The speaker has more bass than my Mediapad X2 but at the highest volume it kind of distorts but at least it's loud. The screen colors pop almost like an AMOLED and the screen is very bright. The battery is sick, one could easily get ten to twelve hours of screen on time in power save mode. I'm getting around 8 in performance mode. I move all my installed apps like email, textra and LMT launcher to system/app so they stay open and give me notifications all the time. All In all this is a great phone. If they fixed the camera (it has to be software related) this would be the perfect phone.

I have to differ. In my opinion, while resolution and camera specs look great on a peice of paper, anything over 1080 or 13 megapixels will go almost completely unnoticed by 99% of users doing 99% of daily tasks. I have a z5 premium, which has a 4k display and a 23mp camera. The z5p is literally the biggest spec whore on the market right now, and I would take the mate 8 over it any day, hence the mate 8 is now my daily driver. The mate 8 has the smoothest, most responsive, and lag free android experience I have ever had.

I like to play around so 1080p is not so good for VR and the 1080p is not the best for motion tracking.
But I might buy one if the prick drops a bit and if there will be any devs for the phone.

lol! but at least with the kernel source being available there is hope of a custom rom. cm13 will make any phone spectacular! well...... almost any phone.
funny timing that android 6.0.1 was just released for the frigging galaxy S2 just a few days ago via CM 13
its true that the stock firmware is definitely not ideal, but it does include some nice functions and with a bit of tweaking around one can already achieve a near-perfect experience
also, to all of u 1080p haters out there: take a look at the actual mate 8 screen before u judge! its absolutely brilliant, both in sharpness, vividness and (subjective) color accuracy! ive had some slight doubts towards 1080p as well, especially since i was considering to get the 6P before. but let me tell you: even on the 6 inch screen its absolutely impossible to discern individual pixels, the image is super sharp! this especially in contrast with my previous Nexus 5, which basically had one of THE best screens around when it came out...
Screen is brilliant I had s6 edge plus before this and I like this screen better .

I have exactly the same case. Had S6 edge+ before Mate 8 and have absolutely no regrets changing it to M8.
I find Mate 8 much better to handle than S6 Edge+
Really recommend this phone to everyone loving big screens and great battery life.

Just bought a Pixel!!

Just got myself a Google pixel yesterday and restored it from my BlackBerry dtek50. So far I'm kinda OK with the phone. The BlackBerry hub integration isn't as good as dtek. No double tap to sleep function and battery percentage is not legible at all as it's inside the icon. I'd all of this on my dtek which costs half of the is phone
One question.. I really don't know what the default wallpapers are. I see a lot of walls under earth and live earth ..are they the default ones that come with pixel? Since I restored mine it had my previous settings which have all the walls from various apps I'd before.
I hope to keep this phone and not all it and get back to my BlackBerry..

To answer your question, those are the default ones that come with pixel. Live earth, live data, new elements, sky high, earth, landscapes, cityscapes, life, textures... Of course, most people (I think) just download/use their own.
Other than that, I don't think there is a double tap to sleep function, but 7.1.1 updated some things so you can have your phone go to sleep when you set it down.
Battery percentages... find an app/widget. If you want it in your notification bar, there are apps for that, but if you want it to replace the current one you might want to look at alternative launchers, or if you're really tech savvy I might look into the world of Root & ROMS.
It is a great phone. But [email protected] from BlackBerry dtek50 for a business user I can't justify the price increase other than the camera and fingerprint scanner. Hub and email work a lot better with dtek 50 which is the most important aspect of a smartphone for me. I don't notice any performance difference in normal use (I don't play any games on my dtek). So I ended up selling it after a couple of days!!

I'm kind of confused. You almost seemed happy you have a Pixel. Only to basically double back to wanting your blackberry.
I feel like the Pixel is going to shine more for people who use their phone to the fullest. If you rely on ONE app for a smart phone, maybe this isn't for you? I can tell you right now, I use mine for business and am constantly flipping through Sheets,Docs,Drive,Gmail,Chrome,etc.... (Yes, I've googlefied my job) and my G3 and 5X before it can't come close to how fast this phone can multitask. It's made my job not easier.... Just better.... more fluid. No more standing in front of a customer waiting for something to load so I can show a email or something.
I dunno. If you don't feel pleased with how much you paid, I don't think you ever will. After everything I paid 848$ give or take, and I don't regret it one bit.

I see your point. I do see my phone a lot but manly for business - talk, text , email, browsing and little bit of whatsapp.
Things I missed eight away on pixel when I had it for a few days:
BlackBerry calendar - when I have conference calls , I have an option to dial in directly from calendar with one click. No need to dial in and out conference id etc
Swipe gestures - regardless of which app I'm on in an always get back to the hub with one swipe. It's priceless for my work
Double tap to wake and sleep - I think pixel has only double tap to sleep option
Productivity tab - easy access to calendar events, email etc
BlackBerry keyboard. Simply the best virtual keyboard. The predictions and swipe gestures are so good
Plus obvious the cost - my dtek costs half of pixel
What I don't like on dtek is the camera it's pretty average. Battery life could be better.

Red magic 3 after a few days my opinion.

So I have a Note 9. Got into Call of duty and decided it was time to get something to play it on sice I was just beating on that battery. Looked at all the gaming phone's and ended up getting a Red magic 3 256gb, with 2 cases, dock, controller, screen protectors everything mind like new for $455. Not a mark on the phone.
First impression. This does not come packed like a cheap phone. You get flagship level packing here.
It's a big phone. But with the case on it. And my text 22 case it's just a hair bigger then my note 9. But it feels great in the hand. It's thicker but you can't tell it hides it well. I haven't felt a phone like this since my Droid DNA. Build quality is great and I was shocked at he nice it really was. I keep looking for that catch. Why this is not a $1,000+ phone. You can't tell. I wish the phone did not have the red accents on it and the logo on the back but since I got a case a little black vivid automotive vinyl and it looks amazing. The diamond camera lenses lets you know this is not a typical phone. The red switch on the side is a hint that it's packing some serious power.
Display. This can make it break a cheap phone. The display is 90hz and is butter. Play 90hz then play 60. You will then hate 60hz. Scrolling is smooth. Does it have the horrible cheap AMOLED display color shift? Nope looks great! Is it note 9 and 10 great? No. But it's a great display and not really trailing far behind the best.
Camera. Stock app is meh. No ois and all that. But the sensor is good. The foundation is there it just needs polish. Gcam app pics look great. Not the best but more then enough for the typical person. I will say the slow no blows my note 9 out of the water. The note 9 looks like trash why this phone looks very clear. That 1920fps is no joke. But I did notice my orange was a bit bighter and the note 9 was more accurate in color but looked grainy where this phone was extremely clear. And the difference between the 940fps and the 1920fps is amazing. Some of my slow mo videos look absolutely amazing and are so crisp and detailed I was blown away. It does 8k...low fps but it ties into the gamer aspect of my phone does 8k..at 15fps...what's your phone do 8k at? Mine doesn't... exactly. 15fps is more then 0.
Android. Is pretty much stock but with some tasteful additions. They respected Android and did not over do it. Runs smoothly and is what you would expect from a pretty much stock Android. Flip the switch and the game space starts. It pick games up automaticly and it's easy to add apps to it. Screen recording is very easy and works great. Settings are easy to adjust and mapping your shoulder buttons are as easy as dragging them to here you want them. Game space is great.
That fan tho! It works. It's not loud but some times you can hear it. If you screen record with the mic on you can year it in the video. But most of the time you won't notice it. I found my temps playing games and heavy benchmarking never hit over 40.6c even after a few hours of call of duty. It works great
Nubia is a name I never heard of. But Nubia is now on my list of phone's to watch. I will take a serious look at the red magic 4 and if they improve on this I will buy one. This phone is that good.
I really hope they offer an all blacked out version. With just the red button. Clean look till the RGB comes on. I love the look of it all blacked out in my case and the RGB on.
And for those who have Verizon. I have Verizon and not having band 13 sucks but I have always had 4g. I did notice that its slightly slower then my note 9. But still pulling good 4g speed and no issues. Put the Sim in and it worked great.
And those worried about updates. Most phone's don't get them anyways so who cares if they don't. I'm on Verizon so it's not like my phone updates have ever been fast.

Can some one confirm I selected the right phone based upon this thread? I thought THIS phone was it but now not sure. Might be close enough to run by Tmo (USA) and get a second opinion.
Why do these phone makers market a phone to a country with not enough coverage! (rhetorical question)

T mobile you should be good. I don't know what bands they use but on on Verizon with no issues so you should have even more band support then me with t mobile. Usually phones don't work well with Verizon

Works for me...
Ordered by RM3s last night. Excited and nervous at the same time.
I paid the extra $6 to have it shipped faster and arrived in 3 business days. I ordered LATE on Black Friday 2019 and had it in my hands on Wednesday.
First, let me provide a bit of history. I'm play PUBG a lot. I'm not on a squad mainly due to lack of the ability to setup a schedule to play with teammates to learn behaviors and work out strategies so I'm forced to play solo. I have been playing on an iPhone 6S plus. The phone did fine on I was hoping that a larger screen would help and WOW what an improvement the size makes (yes, size does apparently matter). The screen of the RM3s is larger than the entire screen and bezels of the iPhone 6S plus. I understand the brightness is only like 400nits or something like that. It's plenty bright enough for me. This was a concern previously but not now.
Buttons: The buttons have a solid clicky feel. I like them. The lock button and the volume rocker are close together so I keep hitting the volume down button. I suspect this might be an issue when my wife calls me and I've accidentally turned down the volume. My iPhone only had one button along the right side of the phone so the extra buttons will take some getting used to.
Face Unlock: This is new to me. With my wife's Note 9, she can lift the phone and it'll detect the movement and unlock. I THINK with the RM3s, you have to push the button on the side to activate the face scanner. Doesn't bother me but it might someone else.
PUGB Mobile: The bootup times for PUBG are effectively the same between the RM3s and the iPhone 6s Plus, we are talking millisecond differences. The iPhone is 4-5 years old and I bought it new. Not sure if this is a testament to Apple technology or not. As I understand UFS 3.0, you primarily see the benenfits when loading large files. My guess here is PUBG has a lot of little files so the performance benefits for loading times of PUGB are a marginally improvement over UFS 2.0. I mention this as I was considering the Samsung S10+ but the screen is smaller than what I wanted to buy.
First MINOR Gripe: Just to prove I'm being objectionable here, I would like to have had the charge port off center like the headphone jack is. I love that the ROG2 can be charged using the side port. When playing games in landscape mode, the cords would be balanced in your hands. That said, there is a freaking 5000mAh battery in this thing so I an easily play several classic matches and not have an anxiety that my battery will be dead before I get home.
Speakers: this was not a big factor for me as when I'm gaming I'll have on headphones but I like to play music or watch YouTube while cooking dinner. The speakers do not disappoint. Are they the best things on earth? Of course not. Are they an improvement over the iPhone 6s Plus? Oh hell yeah. While I am not an audiophile, this speakers are pretty damn good. They get loud. At the volume level of zero, clicking the volume up rocker once makes the speaker loud enough to listen to while working at your desk (w/o a headset). Any louder and my wife will immediately come tell my to turn it down. While the ear piece doubles as a speaker, the volume balance between the two is pretty good. The OnePlus 7t (the other phone I was considering) has a dedicated speaker so I'm sure it sounds perfectly balanced. If I want a higher quality speaker, I'm going to rely on a dedicated unit. Same goes for my TV, computer, or media center, etc. Use the right tool for the job.
Size and Weight: I don't think the phone is big but rather it is long (and I like it "tall" - using tall here for obvious reasons). It does NOT feel heavy and actually feels lighter than my iPhone 6s plus (plus case weight). I will be ordering a silicone case for the RM3s but I doubt it'll had any significant heft. The phone feels solid and not cheap but any means. Perhaps the lack of rear glass and the use of metal cuts down on the weight?
Air Triggers/Bumpers: In a word, "FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC!" They are better than what I had hoped for. Before I found out about the RM3s, I considered getting the OnePlus 7t and ordering button attachments from Amazon. The air triggers/bumper buttons respond immediately and without any lag. The finger unlock can also be programmed for a 3rd button. No clue yet what to use for that except maybe the revive button but since I primarily play solo, I'll probably program it for the scope or the exit button while in the vehicle. The beauty of the button is I can stack the icons in PUBG and the center button will activate the applicable button (in a vehicle, the unlock sensor becomes the exit button, outside of the vehicle, it activates the scope or perhaps the reload. So many choices. The placement isn't super easy to tap during extreme game play but after developing some muscle memory, it'll end up being a great addition.
It came with a pre-applied screen protector. I had heard mixed comments about whether or not it would come with one. As a result, I did order one with the phone so I guess I'll put it in a drawer. Of course when I need it, I wont be able to find it, I'll order another one, and then I'll find the one in the drawer. :/
The LED on back is pretty slick (albeit a gimmick but I like flashy lights). You can configure it for a multitude of things, There is an app with the phone to control the LED behavior. I also really like how the LED can flicker when playing music and for notifications. When playing music, I place the phone face-down so the sound from the speakers are bounced back from the counter which amplifies the sound (and you an see the LED).
Storage Space: Mine is the 128GB version. After signing in and before installing any apps, only 11% was used. No complaints there at all. I activated developer mode and then enabled OTG support, connected my OTG adapter and then attached a 512GB jump drive. The phone had no issues reading the contents. If I end up filling up the 128GB, it'll be easy to off load data so no concerns for me here.
Charge: When I unboxed the phone, the battery was around 80% (this is very normal). I placed on charge while I ate lunch, came back and it was 100%. 5000mAh battery. Awesome.
UI: My wife has a Samsung Note 9 so my experience with Android is limited to the time I've used her phone and the Samsung UI (can I say I hate curved screens? They look great but the usability is severely limited IMO.) and her phone feels heavy. I don't know what "bloatware" or "stock android" looks like but I've heard that the UI of the RM3s is very close to stock Android. I like what I am seeing. In all honesty, I like OnePlus's UI better visually speaking. I know you may be saying you can install Nova Launcher but the RM3s launcher cant permanently change to use a different launcher. Even if I can't install a 3rd party launcher, coming from iOS, I'm used to only effectively being able to change the wallpaper so I'm already have more customization options now. The stock live wallpaper is pretty cool.
ROOT: I do not have any plans to ROOT the phone or unlock the bootloader. I also thought I'd never leave iOS but I've seen the errors of my ways so we'll see what happens. I did see in Developer Options there is a slide switch to unlock the bootloader. Nice!
Phone: I stuck my Tmobile sim card in an Tmobile immediately detected the phone needed some carrier updates. After applying them, I made a single call. It connected quickly. I did not pay attention to if it was connecting using VoLTE. After the initial test call, I removed the SIM. My case hasn't arrived yet so I'm waiting to use the phone. Once I make the official switch, I'll add a reply on the phone call since no one on YouTube mentions how it works as a phone. ?

I'm using Nova launcher prime with zero issues on my 3 and 3s.
If you wanna chat get the USB port location for gaming you can pick up a dock for the phone from RM. I got one the added a micro SD card slot to it. The dock is pretty nice overall.

Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled and now have the option. It wasn't there before.
When I'm back at the computer, I'll update my original post.
Thanks for the feedback to the dock. I almost ordered it but wanted to the try OTG adapter from my wife's Note9 first.
Thanks guys!

Nice! Really great phone. I don't understand the complaints about buggy sw. I have zero issues. I did enable aod(root). Wish I could add the weather on the aod too.
Assuming AOD is always On Display, is that only on when charging (screen saver)?
No issues with bugs here either. It's been very stable.

No, not screensaver. It's always on. There's a substratum overlay to enable it.
This is the closest I could find to AOD.

Looking into buying phone... need advice

Does this phone work well with US carriers? Mainly ATT? And how does everyone like the device? I'm coming from the essential phone ph-1 and would love to hear input on the 7 pro.
Thanks!
Been using this phone on AT&T (Boston area) since last June and it works flawlessly. Just put my SIM in, and it worked without a hitch. Pretty much the same experience with my last phone, which was the OnePlus 3T, which I had for 2 years.
7 Pro is a great phone. Really fast and smooth with the (at the time it was released) top of the line Snapdragon processor and 90 Hz screen. You get flagship performance for a much lower price than a Samsung or iPhone (okay, XDA users aren't really the type to buy iPhones - but you see where I'm coming from). The camera on those other phones might be a bit better. But really, you're getting 95% of the phone quality for a much lower price.
Just as important, the OS is really clean. Close to a stock Android feel, with a few (mostly useful and inobtrusive) added features. OP devices tend to be root friendly, and enjoy great developer and community support here on XDA.
One quibble is the curved screen edges. More flash than function. I feel like OnePlus was trying to make it look like the Samsung screens. But it occasionally makes it difficult and awkward to tap on things near the screen edge. It's a pretty minor thing. But enough to make me wish the phone had a flat screen, instead of curved edges.
Another minor comment (can't even call it a quibble really) is the pop-up selfie camera. It does allow the screen to be completely without any camera notch or cut-out. But some folks have been concerned about long term durability. Unless you are taking tons of selfies, I don't see it as much of any issue. Although if you use face unlock (which I do), you do have to wait for it to pop up and down. It happens pretty fast. But face unlock takes maybe a second (perhaps less) longer than my old 3T due to this (since that phone didn't have to pop a camera up). If you use the fingerprint unlock, this isn't a thing at all, of course. And the pop-up camera does make for a good party gimmick!

This phone works fine
I'm using a OnePlus 7 pro Tmobile brand
I used a international rom which allows 2 Sim cards and I believe unlocks it to be used with other carriers
The device is very snappy, before the international rom flash it would boot in like 2 seconds
After I unlocked it the stupid integrity warning slows down the boot by like 10-30 seconds
The phone has one of the best benchmarks for any phone if not the best still.
Camera pop up is pretty fast and snappy
Updates were frequent until all the fuss about cornavirus started.
Issues - currently blackscreen when opening several game applications including
Clash of clans
Old school runescape
Cod mobile
And others.
But on earlier versions it was fine.
Other complaints that shouldn't effect much on the use of the phone.
System is locked making debloat ING harder then needs to be (Google apps are trash 99% of the time)
Custom Rom updates seem to be slow
Magisk roms seem to not always work
Wiping system makes the entire phone useless until you use the msm tool to re-upload your phones software
Could have Alot more tweaks and functionality if OnePlus added them (navigation bar specifically is limited, I don't use recent button I use it as a menu button)
Bloatware by Google. (I'd prefer to install what I want not be forced to use what they implement)
Overall I give this phone a 8/10 rating.
Would be 10/10 if they actually lived by their motto.
Its Alot to read but worth the time. (unless I don't make any sense then sorry)
I'm using my US unlocked model with Visible and Google fi. I was using VZW until I changed to Visible. No problems.

I have the 7 Pro 5G, running on Sprint, bootloader unlocked and sim unlocked, definitely the best phone I've ever owned, I came from the LG V40 immediately prior, and the Pixel XL series before that, I also did breifly own the Essential phone,
-the 90Hz display is downright the absolute best screen I've ever had on any phone ever.
-256 gigabytes of storage is more than enough for me
-I have yet to encounter any tasks that caused any small amount of lag even.
-the cameras arent amazing, but they're decent, better than the essential.
-the pop up camera feature definitely is better than a notch and it's also just fun to watch it go up and down.
Overall this phone is 10/10, Just wish they cared more about the 5G variants and updated them faster...

I'm definitely gonna buy this phone when I get the cash, but noticed there's a few variants. Chinese, international unlocked and US. The US one is the one i know will work in the US but what about the international unlocked? I just don't want to have to spend the extra money if I don't have to

I can only speak for the version I bought, which is the US unlocked version.
