I unlocked the bootloader, rooted the phone and installed TWRP. I then installed an uninstaller app (root) to uninstall a system app. (Email) because I use the Gmail app but I am not successful in uninstalling the system email app. What am I doing wrong?
I haven't rooted this device yet (Was all Samsung devices before), but removing system apps can sometimes give odd results. Processes crashing ect. (When I removed Facebook from my Stock Note 4, It made it so I couldn't auto rotate anymore. Needed a fix here on XDA someone found). What I would do is install Titanium Backup and uninstall it that way (Make Titanium Backup actually back up the app first, then remove)

If I go into /system/app the apps I've "frozen" with Titanium don't seem to be renamed or altered. So how does it disable them?
Im asking because Id like to get rid of Titanium backup, I don't use any of it's features other than the freeze so would be better if I could just do that myself..
I'm not sure, I haven't ever frozen an app with titanium. What I can tell you though, is that if you go into /system/app and move apps out or in, android will automatically note these changes. This means that you can blow out anything in the app folder and it will be uninstalled from your device. Be careful though, if you remove something you really need for your phone to run, you might have problems. I'd go for a nandroid backup first for this reason.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I could put the question another way..
Can anyone recommend an app to manage/disable unwanted apps to save having to go in and find/rename apks manually?
Just an update for anyone with the same problem, found the answers on the following threads:

Requiers root and USB debugging on!
App freezing requires to use the integrated 'pm' tool which hangs when debugging is off!
In any case you can check the app System Tuner which freezes apps very easily:

I frozen com.android.music.apk (Stock music player) from my Galaxy Advance with Titanium Backup. When I wanted to Defrost Titanium Backup tell me that app has been defrosted, but the app stil frozen, navy color in Titanium Backup. I tried 10 times and don't defrost. Next, because I have backup of this app I have uninstaled with titanium, and now trying to restore it. But titanium tell me "Restoring..." and don't restore, even if I let it 30 minutes with this message "Restoring app..."
So because I have rooted my phone I have tryied to put music.apk in /system/app folder, setting the permisons, the file is there and have rw-r--r-- permisions but the app is not accesible from app drawer. What can I do to restore my Stock Music Player?
Can anyone help me ?

Are you still restoring in the same ROM that you originally froze the app? The Android version is more important, but sometimes, the ROM makes a difference too.
yes, the same ROM. Stock ROM of Galaxy Advance. Only ROOT-ed.
android ver. 2.3.6
in the same ROM happened soȘ
1.Frozen Stock Music Player
2.tried defroze whithout succes. Titanium said was defrost, but in fact remained frozen, and colored in navy in Titanium, with "Defrost" option enabled. So can't defroze
3.Uninstalled with titanium whitout defrozing
4.So because I have rooted my phone I have tryied to put music.apk in /system/app folder, setting the permisons, the file is there and have rw-r--r-- permisions but the app is not accesible from app drawer.
What can i do to have it back in app drawer ?
Well, I only froze an application once in TB, and I defrost it with no problem. But, somehow another app still recognized it...so I do not know if freezing apps are helping as much as they are hurting.
But my last tip before I give up...for now. Uninstall, and try restoring only the app and not the data and tell me what happens.
And of course, if all else fails, backup data and reflash the Rom.

tried! is telling me "Restoring..." and can stay 3 hours with this message. I need to kill titanium to close this.
another ideea ?
You can also freeze/unfreeze through link2sd, which many Android users have on their device anyway.
on my Galaxy S Advance I can't unfreeze any frozen app. No with Titanium, No with Link2SD
Look! I have frozen Yahoo News with Link2SD. Now I can't defroze it. I can try to defroze 10 times. Look at this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2th5cGvOYKw
why it's freeze but can't unfreeze ? I got no error!

I will give you an Example, the software update app in my samsung galaxy phone it always run even i did not run it, if i will freeze my software updater app it will not run automatically anymore and you can't use it.. so like in video games, it's like a pause button.
I have nexus 5, currently flashed a stock image for Android 5.0 lollipop, before that I backed up my applications and data using Titanium backup application.
What's happening currently is that whenever I uninstall an application from the device, it will show it's been uninstalled, but if I try to install it again, either the installation will fail, or the application won't run properly after installation.
I did some investigations and found that the application is not removed from the packages.xml file, and the file would uninstalled properly only if I use the adb uninstall package command.
any idea what might be causing this issue?
What method are you using to uninstall an app?
From Settings, from Titanium Backup, or removing the folder/apk?
From settings only.

Don't know then, it's working completely fine for me
Normally when you install BetterBatteryStats from either apk or Google Play, you'll need to launch the app and install it again but as a System app. After that's done, reboot the phone and it'll work.
However on my OPO, all I see is this after rebooting the phone:

I've never had this issue before and I've only just had this phone recently. It's rooted and running Smoki's rom. Any ideas?
I had this issue a few weeks back. I believe that I uninstalled it, rebooted, reinstalled and it was fine. I did have to use titanium backup to uninstall, and then manually delete the all in the system/priv app folder.

Titanium Backup Pro will not restore system apps.
Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920T
Titanium Backup 7.1.2 with Pro
Stock rooted with CF-Auto-Root
Tried SuperSU v2.45 - v2.46 - v2.49
The Problem
I made backup of apps that I would like to remove from the phone. I did a test by removing Amazon App. When I try to restore app, Titanium hand at restoring app, spinner will go for as long as I leave my phone on. Kill Titanium, reboot phone and I get a toast popup that Amazon has stopped. Amazon app icon in app draw, I touch to start app and get the same toast popup that Amazon has stopped. Start Root Explorer Pro navigate to system/priv-app Amazon app folder is not there. Navigate to system/app Amazon app is located here, but not in a folder and not with any support files. I tried this with a few other apps and it does not matter if they are located in system/priv-app or system/app same result.
I have search and found older threads that suggest changing Application Processing Mode to Interactive, but no mode changes have helped.
I also tried changing Mount namespace separation in SuperSU.
When applying these changes I have reboot the phone.
Any Ideas, please help.
Thank You

Hey, im on G925F and I have the same issue. I have USB debug activated/on, rooted, tried various tricks and switching the way of app processing in TB and none worked. I cannot restore previously backedup system apps at all
same problem here!
also, converting a user app to a system app fails the same way!

I too am unable to restore system apps backed up by Titanium Backup with Titanium Backup. I'm running the latest version of Titanium Backup (Pro), stock KitKat 4.4.2 on a Samsung Galaxy Light (SGH-T399N), rooted with SuperSU 2.50+Pro. The restore process never completes but will run forever without any error messages until I kill it externally with Task Manager. Converting a non-system app to a system app behaves the same way...tries forever without completing. From the number of earlier posts in this thread it's obvious I'm not alone. The only suggested solution I've encountered that seems applicable to my situation is to replace SuperSU with Superuser. I'm loathe to do that and hoping the problem is something else.
Same here, already tried Indirect App Processing but no help. Had this problem with my old Xperia V running CM Rom never figured how to fix it
Titanium backup is not supposed to be used to restore system apps. If I'm correct even the developer of the app says not to restore system apps with Titanium.
I have used Titanium backup for years to restore purchased apps but never system apps. Never had a problem reinstalling backups of apps.

I'm setting up a new Pixel 3 (Android 9), and moving from a Note 4 (Android 6.0.1).
When setting up, Google installs some, but not all, apps from the store. The missing apps I expected to restore from redundant Titanium Backup and My Backup Pro backups.
I have successfully installed Magisk 18.1 using the Boot Image Patch method (no TWRP)
Titanium Backup Pro reports it has superuser rights. When I try to restore an app created with the Note 4, Titanium Backup hangs forever on the "Restoring App+Data AppName n.n.nn.n" overlay with the spinning circle. TiBk is unresponsive, although Android is still running and I can see home screen or notifications. Restart is required to clear the pending action. I have run TiBk with USB debugging enabled (if that is still required), but get the same failure.
I also have MyBackup Pro. When I try to restore an apk (or apk+data), it appears to run normally. MBP reports it has superuser rights. At the end of the process the status summary says: Appname: failed: cp: can't create '/data/app/appnamestring-1/appnamestring.apk': Path does not exist.
I tried using MBP to back up an app already installed on the Pixel 3 from the store, and then restore it. It gives the same error, except the place where there is "appnamestring-1" in the Android 6 backup, there is now something like "appnamestring-2fjdk56akjfkdye7dkfja9=="
Also, I observe that the app that was installed prior to this backup restore experiment is no longer present afterward. I re-installed from the store.
Can anyone suggest next steps for solving this issue?

The only way that worked for me is getting my apps installed from GDrive backup (the from settings - > security - > backup or so). Actually this only restores apps from the play store.
Restore via ADB also didn't work for me...

Thank you for the reply! It was rather quiet around here...
But seriously, you can't restore apps? Why?? What is the issue? Why can't an app designed to backup and restore, running with superuser permissions, restore an app?

I found it also quite annoying! Trying to copy apps via cable seems to be only fetching a list of apps from the old phone and then re-installing them. No settings, no data. Also - obviously - only apps from play store! So unusable.
My advise - export, backup etc. all you can from your old phone for import or so.
In regards to Titanium - there's a wayto make it work. I had this once that it got stuck: in the settings there's an option to change the processing mode - see https://www.titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-backup-kb/titanium-backup-troubleshooting.html , number 29.
You will have to ACK every app to be stored but it should work.
Not sure what I did different to you but it worked for me (titanium). Maybe try restoring app only, then data only. I think I might have done a batch restore from a nandroid originally.
