Efs file problems with my S7 edge. - General Questions and Answers

I recently tried to backup my phone through dr. fone, during the backup, i believe it flashed a download through odin. At that moment my phone turned off. When i turned it back on i found it in a bootloop. Through odin i was able to flash sammobile firmware allowing me to start the phone back up. Weeeellll, according to my phone, i have no iemi, no baseband, no sim card, no ip address. I rooted my phone and found that my efs folder is intact and i have files within it. Im not aware if i have retained all the necessary files to allow it to work, or if the system itself isn't accepting my efs files in general. I rooted it with twrp supersu, used a root browser and am able to see all my efs file, manipulate them and i have plenty of backups to spare, unfortunately i only have backups of whatever happened after my phones info got all f'd up. Here's me hoping that i don't have the worlds most expensive ipod. Please anyone who can help id greatly appreciate it. I need it for work and my constant travel.
There isn't a single thing wrong with this phone, other than the fact i cant access internet, or my network data.

I don't have this device but, your best bet is to post this question within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device.

Can I CWM restore to an identical phone?

I have multiple Moto G (boost mobile XT1031, rooted but otherwise stock). One of them is suddenly going haywire after months of no issues and I can't seem to fix it. Apps crashing like crazy over and over. Unfortunately I didn't make a back up of it when I rooted it way back when. Can I make a CWM on the good phone, copy it to my PC, then restore it via sideload onto the bad phone? I started to try, but then I looked in the backup location folder for the good phone (/data/media/clockworkmod/backup/1970-09-17.10.52.24/) and noticed there are several files. I was hoping to find just an update zip that I could sideload onto the new phone. Where do I go from here? Do I copy the files to my PC, then push them to the same location on the bad phone and then do a normal CWM restore from sdcard?

No. Those backups contain device specific files that can mess your other device up.
Do you even know what is causing the apps to crash?
Unfortunately I have no idea. I tried googling the problem with no luck and I tried posting here. What kind of device specific files? The phones are the exact same model so I thought it would work. I thought I had read stuff about nandroid backups being able to be used across identical devices but maybe I misunderstood.

Do a search for how to do a logcat. As it seems you are new to this. I'll explain a bit. The logcat is troubleshooting 101.
As for the others. Can it be done? Yes but not without issues. Nandroid contain things like IMEI files and device files. Flashing them can cause things like no network connections, wifi and gps issues.

features not working on galaxy S3 after screen/frame swap.

Hello!
I have a SCH-I535PP that has a bad screen and a SPH-L710 that has a good one. I stripped them both down to the "frame" of the screen and replaced all the SPH's innards with the SCH's, besides the front facing cam because the screw is stripped out.
The problem with this is that the pcb is not meant for this "frame" and I have to leave a screw out so that it doesn't sandwich the pcb that connects the upper and lower sections of pcb, possibly un-connecting something as I screw it together. I also had to leave out the black screw as theres no hole in the SPH's frame.
So, the features I'm missing is the camera, vibration, wifi, and the home button. However I'm not sure if the home button worked on this frame so. But if that's the case (which is might be because I can't get into recovery) then I can't clear cache to see if that would fix the said hardware faults.
Worse comes to worse I just need the wifi really, but having the rest of it would be great. Any suggestions?
Thanks so much!

The Digitizer Assembly is compatible between the two models but, not the specific electronic components.

Great, so I have a phone that barely works. Least I got my data off it. Still though, there's got to be a way to fix it. I don't care about the vibration and home button but the wifi and the camera are crucial. I still get cell reception and bluetooth, but why don't I get wifi? Doesn't make any sense. It goes to turn on in the settings and turns off. I swapped over the antenna after using the doner phones one, is that what caused it? Using the older phones one? Or is the wifi section directly on the pcb? Maybe it got pinched somewheres or unplugged? No idea.
Thanks for the help!

Alrighty, good thing I have a home button emulator app and terminal emulator I can add su and reboot recovery. However I'm not sure which modem driver I should use? I have the I535PP, not sure where I'd find the file I need to flash in the samsung recovery. Also I got the phone a while ago, it has android 4.4.2. I did a factory reset when I got it, however I've been using a work around to get around the activation screen. I was told if you act like you're going to use the phone with a different sim they'll activate the phone, should I try that? Or should I try and flash a different software to it? Also I've heard of a thing called knox sensor? Will that go off and brick the phone if I try to flash a different version of w/e to it? Also I should add that the phone was rooted with kingroot.
( I've got a sdcard I'll put it onto, it's a .zip right? There anything else I should know about? )
Also, my basebrand version is: I535PPVRUBNF5
Thanks so much!

I believe that the NF5 is the last one released.
I really can't give you much more information than this. I've never had the Prepaid S3.
If you need the Stock Firmware for the I535PP NF5, i do have it on my File Host Account. I uploaded it for another member a while ago and kept it there.

Okay? So should I make a backup and restore it with that firmware? That's basically the same as doing a factory reset right? Should I try to do a factory reset first? I'm new to all this so what should I use to backup? Just the standard android thing (if there is one). Restoring from that backup wont bring my issues back will it? Or is the whole firmware thing just essentially "drivers"? and doesn't reset the phone? I'm confused.
Also could I get the link to said firmware? Again, thanks so much!
I also found this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga.../rom-tw-4-4-2-i535ppvrubnf5-deodexed-t3427237
Seems to be a modified version of the OS/firmware. Idk if it'll work for my phone though. I need a modified loader or something? Any suggestions?

First of all, here's the link for the stock Firmware (it's zipped up so all you need to do is unzip it).
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120750115
That other link is a modified stock Firmware. It's basically the stock Firmware that's debloated and other modifications that's outlined by the developer.
Since the device cannot be unlocked for a custom firmware, that is basically the stock Firmware that's modified and only has what's needed for the devices recovery to think it's the real deal.
I have an S4 that can't be unlocked but, it's got the stang5litre firmware that's modified the same way.
I hope i explained it okay via text...

Well with you saying it's not unlocked, when I first boot the phone it says custom with an unlock padlock? Is that what you mean? So am I set to try and flash that de-bloated version and try it out? It says there that I need safestrap. No idea what that is but I looked into it some, should I try and use it to flash that version or use the standard samsung recovery? Or will it not work that way, probably not.
Also the link you sent me I got a "504 Gateway Time-out"
EDIT: I rooted it with kingroot and I'm fairly certain that it made the custom bit appear. Did it disable the knox sensor or something, and make it to where I can flash custom roms or w/e?
EDIT2: The site was temp down, got it now.
Alright, I downloaded the file you sent me. Going to copy it to my sdcard. Is there something specific I should name the file? Also I want to extract it so it's .MD5 not .zip like you said? Also what option do I select in the recovery mode? Apply update from external storage?
Thanks so much!
Well I can't even connect my device to my PC. It wont show up. I had this problem before and I can't remember what I did to fix it... Keeps showing up as a modem. I've installed the correct drivers though. wtf... Then tried samsung keis, didn't work. Tried samsung smart switch which said my device was supported but when I went to connect it, it decided it wasn't..... I'm trying USB driver version 1.5.14.0, but when I connect my device windows update installs more ****. Is that the problem? It keeps installing the wrong driver? Idfk starting to get annoyed now lol, going to take a break from it and see what you say tomorrow.
(it's not the cable either, I'm using the data/charge cable from my logitech g700s)
Thanks again.
Edit: I'm on windows 7 x64, and in the devices menu it's showing as a modem.
I've been looking into it a little more. I found a loader called TWRP. However I can't find the specific I535PP version, again, or is it this one?
https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxys3verizon.html
So if I installed that, I should be able to install that custom rom? A de-bloated version would be great, it runs a little slow, and gets pretty hot playing games. Plus a little change too, but I still need to backup all my data and some game saves. I just need to be able to access it from my pc >_< I've format'd my pc since I had it working last
Edit: The rom install instructions say to use either safestrap or flashfire. I'm not sure which one to use, or if I should try to use the TWRP. Or if I should try neither of them because I might brick my device? Idk, can't wait to hear from you. Or should I just forget about all this and try and flash the original firmware you sent me?
Edit2: I also made a thread here asking the same questions.
Thanks!
Unfortunately I still can't get it to connect to my pc. There's a bunch of other threads I've looked at but trying different things haven't made it work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
wtf, even booting into download mode does nothing when plugging it to my pc. I have no idea what's up with this phone... It says the following up at the top left:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I535PP
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
BOOTLOADER RP SWREV: 2
It's also stuck in download mode now, and just says "Downloading... Do not turn off target !!" Wtf is it downloading???
It's great that I have an overcomplicated flash light essentially, or if I restart the device possibly a paper-weight. I'll give it a little longer and see if it'll shut off by the button, if not I'll pull the battery.
Edit: It was fine, but still an overcomplicated flashlight. I guess you normally get out of DL mode by holding home which doesn't work for me, but removing the battery was fine.
Another unfortunate thing is that I can't enable mtp mode because of the weird way I have to get into the phone. My notification bar doesn't exist at the top, when I was first using the phone it would randomly pop up and work out of the blue, but if I restarted the phone or hit the home button it would send me back the activation screen, therefore having me to go into settings and enable standard home screen mode and a couple seconds later it pops to the home screen or lock screen if I don't type my code.
Any idea what the number is I have to dial specifically for the I535PP? By VZW? I've tried them all
Hope you haven't forgotten about me @Ibuprophen xD Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks and look forward to hearing from you!
Also I just found this video
https://youtu.be/9LLOmoE-tp0
So from what this vid says do I just click AP on odin while my phones in download mode, click the file you sent me and let it go? I don't think the same would apply to the other flash install, as it isn't compiled into a .md5 format.
But again I still haven't been able to back some files up off my phone. Only if my pc had bluetooth, because that surprisingly works on the phone. Might just get a usb bluetooth adapter if I have to... So annoying, idk what I did last time to fix it...
I really do apologize @Sokoloft for not responding to you lately...
I've just been getting a bit swamped with various items regarding my current developments, unreleased developments, various other XDA responsibilities and my personal responsibilities at home.
After a quick review of your posts here, i am not sure exactly where you are at now and even what your trying to do now exactly.
I did notice a question or two on other posts and, though their not bad questions in itself but, they are actually reflecting (to myself and others) that your not really reading the OP's nor are even searching the threads themselves for previously answered questions from other members that match/are similar to your question.
I'm not trying to nor is it my place to lecture any member but, I'm just providing you with a reflection of what I, personally, am viewing/understanding.
I just want to quickly add that if you're that lost in what you're doing, i can only recommend/suggest (in a friendly way) to do your homework by looking into and understanding what you want to do, is it possible to do and how those actions affect your device.
With that stated...
I just want to remind you of 2 things that I've stated on a previous post(s).
1) I don't have/never had the Prepaid S3.
2) There's no way to unlock the bootloader of your specific prepaid device.
The post regarding that customized version of the stock ROM is a good alternative as well as (i think it's available for the S3 Prepaid) the stang5litre that's also a customized version of the stock ROM.
If you can respond to my other questions (above), I'll try to provide you with some help the best way i can.
Thank you very much for your time, patience and understanding with this!

Okay, so where I am at is that I cannot connect the phone to my pc. It registers itself as a modem still no matter what driver I've tried. I can't transfer files from it that I need, plus I can't get that md5 file on the sdcard if that's what I have to do to flash the file you sent me. Or do I have to use ODIN? Regardless I'm not even sure if ODIN recognizes the device. At one point when I had tried samsung keis it almost established connection with the software, but nothing in windows explorer.
I'll get back to you more on this later tonight.
Thanks again.
EDIT: I had this problem when I initially got the damn phone, and I can't remember wtf I did to fix it. This is immensely frustrating...
EDIT2: I also need the number to dial for VZW I535PP to enable MTP mode as I can't get to my notification bar. That might help? Every one that I've tried doesn't go into that menu. Could it be because my phone isn't activated?
Essentially @Ibuprophen once I can connect to the device I'm going to back some game data up and some photo's and then flash the file you sent to me. Do I use ODIN to do that or put it on my sdcard and use the standard recovery? Or can I not because I have a locked boot-loader? Or can I because it's modified to look like the original? I'm confused...
Currently contacted samsung support, I'll see what they say about it not connecting. This is crazy though, it should just plug up and work without all this bs.
Thanks again, hope to hear from you soon.
I haven't forgotten about you @Sokoloft...
I plan to provide you with a brief tutorial on restoring the Stock Firmware using Odin for your device.
In the meantime, i just uploaded the Stock PIT files for your device. PIT is short for "Partition Information Table" and is used with the firmware file in Odin to tell it how and where to re-partition the internal memory for the factory firmware installation. The PIT file isn't typically needed but, in some cases, it is needed.
The following link is to the PIT files but, be sure to grab the one that matches the amount of internal memory of your device.
The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 Prepaid devices were released with 16, 32 & 64 GB of internal memory.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=225361
I'll be back with some more information for you.

T-mobile Note 8 unlocked with minor problem

Good evening. My name is Chad and I am not the best when it comes to doing things. I mess things up more than I fix them.
Today I was trying to wipe my Note 8 and reinstall the TMB firmware. I also had to switch out my sim. Like a dumbass I had two sims on the table and without remembering or looking I grabbed an older sprint sim I had in my iphone7plus. I installed it and it began to provision and do updates based on sprint. I removed the sim and tried to reflash, but everytime now it will not install the tmb firmware. I put in the correct files in odin and when it is all done, it restarts, says its updating firmware and then I get dead android at 32% every time. I have tried with OYN_CSC and it erases but when I restart I am left with the same OMADM from Sprint. I tried BK disabler but that wont work, never activates. I have to go in every time and force stope the app. Does anyone have any suggestions or help for me. Sorry for being such a newb and a dodo bird. Had I checked the sim, none of this would have happened.:crying:

k50-t3s/t5 imei number lost after format all+download (help needed)

Problem: After flashing stock ROM a bunch of times using SP flash tool and ending up with no luck (black screen) I thought the problem was stock ROM messing each other up so I did a format all+download which worked and my phone booted but after flashing lineage os and resurrection remix and putting in my sim card I realised there was no service. After putting it in and out and a bunch of resets I realized the imei number got wiped and further searching it was because of format all+download. After using every tool from sn writer to read&write I always got an error or nothing happening. Most of the errors were either timeouts, wrong md1 db or ap dp files (I've tried at least 5 different ones for MT6752) and error 36 for the read&write tool. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I'm in no rush because I've still got my old phone. If you need any more info to help me just ask below and I'll answer in 24hrs.
Thanks to whoever decides to help
EDIT: I can restore my imei using imei changers but those go away after installing resurrection remix and I'm not going to use the bloatware filled stock rom and also I live RR for the choices for every little thing

Thanks for the reply but I've already tried all of them. I'll make a list of what works and doesn't.
Can change IMEI through stock ROM using IMEI changers: YES
Can change IMEI through Custom ROM using IMEI changers: NO
Can change IMEI through PC software (sn writer (error is ap meta mode failed), maui meta (never goes yellow), read&write tool (error 36) and a few other had an error and timeouts: tl:dr cannot change IMEI with PC
What I'm looking for:
Software which permanently changes IMEI for MediaTek MT6752/K50-T3s (I've got the K3 Note OS installed form this link: https://firmwarefile.com/lenovo-k3-note)
An app for a phone which can change the IMEI even if a custom os is in use (I don't mind un-permanently changing it as long as it works.
MD1_DB and APDB files for the MT6752 (I might have gotten some bad ones which don't work) or a tutorial which shows how to get BOTH files (already got MD1_DB file APDB seems to stuff me up)
Anything else which I might have missed
Thanks for any help given

LTE Loss, Unable to Recover w/o Factory Reset - with Several Protections in Place

Greetings,
I've been racking my brain and fighting with this for weeks now, but I'll try and keep this short:
GS3 d2vzw
Unofficial Lineage ROM 14.1 (Nougat 7.1.2) and OctOS-N (also 7.1.2)
With, and without, Xposed Framework/XPrivacyLua
AFWall+ (firewall)
When I go into a cell dead zone, I lose LTE and never get back. I'm always stuck on 3G with a little 'x' in the bottom-right corner of my 3G/Signal icon. However, the little 'x' can go away depending on the AFWall settings (i.e. allowing phone services out, or kernel, etc).
The only way I've been able to get LTE back is to backup the ROM, Factory Reset, and then restore the ROM...and even that doesn't always work. It seems to depend on if I do a Factory Reset or Wipe the device including the data partition. Also, this technique seems to only work when I restore an OCTOS Rom. The LineageOS ROM has NEVER recovered LTE. However, the LineageOS ROM still has Xposed installed.
Online, I found a recommendation to "Reset APNs to Default", clear cache, restart. This also has never worked...plus, I don't know what 'cache' they're talking about. I've tried clearing the Phone cache and/or Dalvik/cache from recovery...neither have worked.
I don't believe the problem is with the SIM or HW as a factory reset has always brought back LTE. I also don't believe Xposed is the culprit as I've had the OCTOS ROM without it. This ROM I can factory reset to get LTE back and restore an OCTOS ROM which will then still have the LTE. LineageOS I have yet to try to see if removing Xposed will have any effect.
I was leaning toward the problem being AFWall+ as I block a TON of stuff. However, when I disable AFWall and restart the phone, LTE still does not come back. It's almost as if the radios are somehow dropping to 3G and then unable to recover w/o factory reset...but I have no idea what "factory reset" is doing.
Any and all help would be appreciated as this is my only phone and constantly factory resetting/restoring is not practical simply because I drive through a dead cell zone.
Thanks!

UPDATE: I adjusted the firewall settings a bit and was successful in restoring the LineageOS after Factory Reset to /keep/ the LTE. Still doesn't solve the recovery if LTE is lost though.

Just a suggestion...
Do you have the latest Firmware Modem installed as reflected on the following thread?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3735628
The Firmware Modem updates are specific for devices to Update the Modems Only without having to flash the whole Firmware to update them (typically for devices with Unlocked Bootloaders).
Keep in mind that Custom Firmwares doesn't update the Modems and leaves them alone. Modems has to be updated separately by the user.
Good Luck!

Non-Odin Flashable?

Thank you! Turns out my modem firmware is from 2013! So yes, I would like to flash the latest modems, but these files all point to ODIN. Does anyone know if /heimdall/ under Linux can be used to do this as well??

The ones from that thread are customized with only the Modem Update files.
Those modem updates are only flashed in Odin per the OP instructions.
You don't need to reset, recover, etc... your device stays the way it is with an updated Modem. You just flash it via Odin, it reboots and your all set.
That's my DevDB Thread and I tested all of those Modem files to make sure that they worked.

Bummer. I don't have a Window box for ODIN. I did extract the .tar and found the NON-HLOS.bin file and some research shows Heimdall can flash those to the modem partition. However, I also found this site: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2791801
Which says it will lock my bootloader. Now, granted, the file provided is a full modem+ROM flash which is something I don't want to do. However, since the flash name used "VRUDNE1" is the same as the version number listed on your modem list provided by your link, I thought I'd ask and verify: Will flashing just the modem file affect the bootloader in any way? The last thing I want to do is risk locking my bootloader.
Thank again for all your help.
BTW, I downloaded the full 4.4.2 update for the GS3 and figured I'd look for the "modem file". I found this page that shows there are 2 files, one for the LTE modem and one for the 3G modem. Thoughts?
I just want to be extremely cautious about this since I don't have a Windows box and I don't want to lock my bootloader.

I have a TWRP flashable ZIP of modem NE1.
Get it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i15enyq8wm759z9/d2vzw_MF1_firmware_NE1_modem.zip?dl=0
Flashing this file will NOT do anything to the ROM or Bootloader.
