Quick charging issues. - Nokia 7 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

I've had this issue since I got my phone around the 23rd of April, it installed 8.1 when I first ran setup. If I connect the charger wit hthe screen turned off, it turns on lock screen and I see the message shift between "charging" and "quick charging" repeatedly until the screen turns off. When I turn on the screen again it mostly says "quick charging" but sometimes only "charging" and I'll have to plug the cable in again until it actually quickly charges. I had the same problem once on a Samsung device and that was because of a faulty power cable. Dunno what causes this on the Nokia, anyone else had this problem and any solution?

No problems here with my 7plus charging. Always shows fast charging. But then I'm still on 8.0 1 Feb security patch.

The cable is faulty. Replace it with a new one through Nokia care.

Tried different cables and still the same issue. When it showed Charging Rapidly, the phone would overheat. But on 8.0 and Android P, it shows charging rapidly. So my guess Nokia disabled fast charging because of battery issues.

Nokia support said it's an issue related to the Android One release and to contact Google.
If you install Android P it will bring back fast charging.
I also found an article which is kinda relates to the issues.

Thanks for the info man. It's great to know it's not a hardware issue and can be remedied through software updates. Still, the article is two months old and the issue seems to be 4 months old. I hope something is happening soon.

yes same issue with my phone after yesterday's update.

I just got N7+ yesterday and here is what I have noticed.
On original charger all is smooth and no problems noticed.
However (as you all) I got some other chargers at home and here is how they worked...
Samsung (the one I got with A5 2016 - with support for quick charging) - N7+ keeps lighting up the screen every 10-15 s. with a sound "charger connected" and switches between Fast and normal charging...
Sony charger (I got it left after my Z5 with Snapdragon Quick Charge 2.0 support) - same issue, very annoying...
Samsung Travel Adapter - EP-TA10EWE ( I do not think it supports any kind of fast charging...) - no problem again, and (surprise! surprise!) from about 55% N7+ said it will take exactly the same time to get to 100% on both this and original charger.
However I am unhappy with constant sounds and screen light coming from N7+ on other, standard chargers.
I do not expect fast charging to work , but I do need quite time when phone charges slowly...

I guess it's a heat reducing measure. The device will charge normally if you use it while charging but will use fast charging when you won't use it while charging.
Edit - While screen is on, the current rate is around 1000mA while when screen is off, the current rate is around 2000mA
Sent from my Nokia 7 plus using Tapatalk

Got this too only noticed it yesterday, so must be after the May update, phone doesn't seem to charge as fast now. I'm one of those who likes to plug it in while I'm in the shower so I can get to about 89%

2hrs for full charge

Here are the charging rates when the screen is on and when the screen is off. This behaviour is shown after the may update. And I feel this was done on purpose. They just didn't mention it in change log just as they didn't mention about dual volte and may security patch.

I returned mine to the carphone warehouse and I demonstrated the issue to them and they accepted that it was an immediate fault and was unsafe to ignore. So I exchanged it for the Honor 10. If you cant hold on for Nokia to hopefully fix the issue with an update and your within your exchange period then I would recommend the exchange.

The one and only

Just to confirm, last night charged my phone and charging works fine. I used the original Nokia charger.
Charged from 10% to 20% in a bit more than 5 minutes (screen off).
No sound for charging connecting-disconnecting.
Completely charged in less than 2 hours.
So far, I am happy with it.

Battery dying !!!

I have a lot of battery issues lately... For info I have my xt720 for 1year and 3mouth i buy right after motorola release it
So if that can help someone...:
This is my first post with my first battery "blackout"...
My phone is dead !!!!
i don t know what to do!
It don t want to charge anymore
This morning i notice it wasn t fully charge after going out but i came back before it die so I plug it i had about 10% left
5min after it make me some no battery alarm ( 3 or 4) like if the phone was not plug anymore i replug it. it works but without moving it it stop charging
It reboot but with 5% battery and die
Now i can t boot anymore
Sometimes my led light but it never boot...
I hope it s only my usb cable or my electric plug that is causing it but i don t think so since i don t touch it when it stop charging...
I don t know what to do!!
It was my only phone...
The next day:
My phone come back to life after one night without battery...
Don t ask me why but this morning it charges like always....
I think its a motorola ota update... loool it s time to change !!!
The evening of the same day i plug it as always (it works well all the day) and not any problem
but this morning (the next day morning) my phone was out (black screen and not any reaction when power on or when pluging it...)
I remove the battery about 10minutes then i plug it and it works (it take about 1hour to start but the battery was totally empty so this is normal)
I m not sure what i m going to do right now...
I think the battery is the problem but i can t be totally sure.....
I hope the nexus prime will be release soon and worldwide...
I m going to try the new Mz CM7 and a battery calibration but i don t believe......
just get a new battery from ebay or Deal Extreme
only $3 + free shipping
i've got a few of those for spare, and they work great!

You re kidding!
I will search for this tomorrow thanks!
(If you remember the sellor......)
So I remember this from another thread yesterday and I had a similar problem. However my wifes is a bit different. Riddle me this. Her USB port is either not reading or not connecting. I checked her pins and plugged in my phone (works fines). I even went to /system/app/usb.apk and reinstalled. I even jiggled it softly, then wildly and then softly again to no avail.
Any ideas? We can take it in to CBW but man I hate that place with a passion. Would love for it to be something I can fix myself. At this point, i have to charge her battery in my phone and then swap them out until she either gets it fixed or replace the whole damn phone. I spent most of the night backing up her stuff last night (for some reason cannot do a nandroid of /system, data, cdrom, cache, cust or ext. Not sure what is the problem with that. She has 2.1 with app2sd script (much like ESB only not app2ext but rather app2sd)
This has happened to me a few times and freaked me out a little. Rebooting the computer (not the phone) worked, though. I think the USB stack on the desktops/laptops must get confused sometimes. It was even phone specific. One phone would work and the other wouldn't. After reboot both worked again. I feel myself becoming more and more superstitious.

Only other idea I have is swapping batteries to see if there's a chance the problem is there... that sucks. Sounds like what happenesld to HM.

Did that. Actually swap hers into my phone to charge it up and then put mine back. Sucks b/c she is a stay at home mom, so she needs her phone. Seems to me to be a hardware issue. Maybe something connecting the usb port to the phone. Short or bad wire or something like that. She's going to CBW to day to do battle.
if it's really a USB port problem, or lose contacts in the USB of the phone
you can always charge it with an external charger

Our carrier replaced it with a Nexus S, so I might be hitting you up for some suggestions. Easye420 mentioned that you turned him on to some things over there. I'll root it and unlock the bootloader tonight and check it out, then probably PM you.
The problem with ebay and all the internet sellors is that i will have to wait for 2 or 3 weeks to get it....
I will have to quickly go to Paris during the lunchtime (i hope i will find one)
For the info last news of my dying battery...
Now it can t boot with out being plug....
But when it s on then the battery always stay at 0%(I never see the 0 before my battery issue) even after 3 or 4 hours of charge
but a little bit fun when i plug it i have the battery charging animation and it show me that my battery is fully charged...
The end of the story...
I just get my new battery (a standard motorola the same as the stock) (cheap and very fast to get if there is someone having battery problem on Paris... let me know by pm)
and I think everything is coming back to normal...
I m not sure yet cause the battery% is acting weird but i think it s the calibration
When i first plug it it show me 50% after a boot it shows 0% but it was charging...
After another reboot it was at 90%....
My moto is making fun of me!!!
But i think everything will come back to normal after a full charge and discharge...
I will let you know

So you change it???
Did you make it work with charged battery???
I changed my battery and my phone don t boot anymore again
The first day i changed the battery it worked well i fully charge it and to calibrate it well i fully discharged it (until the phone shut down)
But now it don t want to charge again!!
When i plug it was booting at the beginning but after the boot it show 0% of battery and shut down after 10seconds
I test it 4 or 5 times and now it don t boot anymore
When i plug it sometimes it show me the animation with 50% of battery but it never move and shut down after max 5minutes (and now even this never happened)
I was asking myself about buying a battery charger like you say allgamer but i m not sure if that will work or if it s really broken
Now it don t have any reaction no matter what i try........
I don t know what to do i was waiting for the nexus prime but it will not shown up until at least 2 mouth (maybe more in France)
I think i read one time a guy who connect the power wire of an usb cable directly on the battery to charge it... It was a milestone battery i think (but its the same for the xt720)
Someone know something about that???
I m trying to recharg it only by connecting the wire to the battery...
We ll see... I don t have other solution for the moment (I try it before buying a battery charger)
I did this (bottom left)

After 1hour of "this way" charging
It seems to have charge but just a little (even if i plug it to the charger and not to usb. It is a lot faster when charging the phone)
I can boot it but it still don t charge (i was hoping it will charge again after the battery get a little more juice)
I have plug it another time i will let it charge for 3 or 4 hour it should let me boot and use it a little more i hope....
I had the same battery problem.
I did the same trick to boot up to flashing mode, and flash back to stock sbf.
After that, battery manage to recharge.

Mine don t want to....
I charge it for 3 or 4 hours and it boot without a problem (even if it show 0% battery again) I was able to go to bootloader or recovery but that s not my problem i just need to charge it and it don t want....
I think i m gonna buy a external battery charger. But that sucks it s about 50€ (i already spent 20€ for a battery...) and i m not sure that it will work...
What ROM do you have installed? I think some on the recent CM7's replace the charge_only_mode with a reverse-engineered non-motorola one.

I don t even try this.... It really seems to be a hardware problem
I m backing up my old 6.3 right now...
edit i hope you re right but it don t want to charge even when in the system... I mean after the boot i can play a little bit before the system shutdown and it don t charge even when it s power on...
It s still booting (i hope i m not in a bootloop i don t have the battery for...)
edit 2: the battery last enough to boot but it s the same...
Im gonna buy an external battery charger tomorrow.... I don t have any other choice...

Battery always in charge ?? (even when not !)

Really strange problem guys...
My phone is always "on charge" , the icon in the notification bar is the charging one, even widgets are displaying the "on charge"...
the fact is that it's unplugged !!
i've tried removing the battery and the phone didn't turn on, so i put it on charge and it finally did turn on...
After unplugging it again it still shows "on charge". So i turned it off again and this time it showed the battery loading screen, but I can turn it on this time....
Suggestions ?
the phone is working fine now but i smell a major hardware fault....
Sounds like what I had recently.
It started by simply smoking out the USB connector when I plugged the phone in to charge, then it displayed similar symptoms: did not accept charge from the wall wart, the USB-cable worked, but no data transfer was possible. It did show as charging, but the charge animation continued even when I unplugged the phone from the USB, so I assumed it was bogus.
When turned off, it reacted to the AC charger similarly: battery displayed, then the displayed stayed on when I unplugged it.
The repair shop accepted it under warranty, and fixed it, but the repair slip was left unfilled, so I'll never know what they actually did and what the diagnosis was. All I know is that the motherboard was not swapped out, as I retained all my data.
check with Samsung, if you're still under warranty!

Clean the usb port with a dry tooth brush and some compressed air mine does this from time to time as well as others. Also I believe ics has a small charge animation bug or something like that

I've done some cleaning (man, the USB was dirty as hell !), now everything is working fine again except for one thing
when i turn off the phone, it shows the "in charge" icon for about 10 seconds, then it disappears...
could it be an ICS bug ? i'll be relieved if it's just a software bug...

Bad News,
i'm back at square one....
The phone is still showing "on charge" even when unplugged...
And now when i plug the charger in , the phone charghes to 100% in about 5 minutes....
Obviously it goes from 100% to a normal level in a matter of minutes...
I hope it's a battery issue and not a USB fault... gonna try a new battery in the next few days...

[Q] [E] Battery down to 0%, phone doesn't charge

Hey.
I got the dreaded GSM bug on my E (running CM10). The battery was down to 7%, and I was being told to sleep. I did the foolish thing and turned it off, hoping I'd turn it on tomorrow and flash stock. Next morning, the phone didn't turn on; the red light issue. I managed to turn it on, but soon as it turned on, it complained about lack of battery and turned off - the battery symbol didn't say that it was charging, it just showed an exclamation mark. When the phone turned off, it didn't turn on; I never even got the red light back.
It's charging right now (or so I hope) with a 2A Nexus 7 charger and Sony's stock USB cable. Even after charging for about two hours, it still doesn't get a red light. I can't take it to Sony cause it has CM10 and I can't flash stock as I can't get it into Flashmode.
Help me? Please?

Do you have an external charger? Probably not but it is your only shot! Or you need to find another Xperia E and charge your battery in that E. There is not much left you can try. Sorry.
Have you tried to plug it in your your PC? You never know...
This just pops up in my head: if you have enough micro USB cables, try to cut one open very delicate with a sharp knife.
Then try to insert them in your USB port to create voltage. This can't be stopped by the phone, it's a fully automatic process. Perhaps you can find a tutorial or so on the world wide web? Or do you have a very technical friend?
These are my suggestions. Can't think of anything else . Sorry.
Have a nice day and good luck!

Thanks. No external charger, plugging it into the laptop didn't do anything last night, my mother would kill me if I put a cut-open cable in my phone, can't find anything on the WWW, and I am the techinal one in my group of friends.
I left the phone to charge overnight and then tried to power it on. A red light occasionally blinks, but I can't turn the phone on. It's still connected to the charger, with me hoping for a miracle.
Try using one of those 'universal chargers'. They're really cheap, and availability shouldn't be a problem when you're in Delhi. But those are supposed to be kind of dangerous-might fry your battery. But then , it could give your battery just enough juice it needs to enter flashmode!
Best of luck! May God be with your E!

Like I said in PM,universal charger should do it.
Actually one of my friend using miro had this issue, what he did was charged it by universal charger for a considerable time[like 20 minutes]
and then put in the battery in his phone and connected it,the battery was around 17 percent and then he continued charging the phone by sony cable.

What, exactly, do you mean by a "universal charger"? I thought all microUSB chargers were compatible with all microUSB phones. Or do you mean a charger that charges any phone, by using separate ports?

They mean an universal AC/DC battery charger. You can get those for 10 euros/15 dollars(don't know in rupees). They can be found in any tech store.
Have a nice day!

Thanks - I had one lying about. Just put it on right now, I'll try and report back in about an hour.
Yes! It worked! @NeoTrix, @KDB223, @MatsPunt, and the universal charger who doesn't have an XDA account, thanks a lot!

Next time you may experience this, try putting out the battery for 10 seconds, then put it back in and turn the phone on. Make sure it's charged enough to make the test. Had the same battery problem with you, did this and it worked.

Ah... that was the problem, see. It wasn't charged. I'd tried what you said many, many times.

Help me? Please?

I also had the same problem, but worser because I cannot charge my Xperia J either via PC USB or the main power. Is the universal charger is the only solution?

You can find somebody with the same model phone like you and ask them to charge the battery for you.

Cannot boot into any Rom. Phone is restarting.

This issue started yesterday. My setup at that moment was as following:
Multirom : Installed
Primary Rom: Lineage OS 14.1
Secondary Rom: TugaPower 48.0
I was using TugaPower rom. I opened music player and the phone got switched off. I tried restarting but into the middle of the booting process, again it shut down. I tried booting into primary rom but the same issue happened. Then I connected it into a charger and it booted normally. Phone's battery level was >80% at that moment. I unplugged the charger and kept it idle, it stayed on. However, if I try to perform any action like opening an app, it switches off if not connected to a charger. So, I kept the phone on charge entire day to use it.
Today I thought of fixing the problem by wiping it clean. So I wiped everything in the phone including Internal Storage. Then I flashed Lineage OS again but the same issue is there. It won't work without a charger despite the battery being full. Please note that TWRP was working fine without a charger so I don't think the battery is faulty. Anyway, I decided to flash COS 13 using fastboot. The issue was still there. then I flashed TWRP again but this time it is also getting shut down in the middle of installing Lineage OS. I plugged it, but still Rom is flashing fine but in the middle of Open Gapps flashing process, it shuts down despite being connected to charger. Now it won't boot to any rom. Just shuts down when it starts to boot.
So now I have a dead OPO with working TWRP(?) and fastboot. Another thing I noticed is that when it is connected to PC via MTP it does not show the available space it used to. Just Internal storage

I am not able to identify the actual issue. Is it a hardware problem? or any partition is corrupted?
Are the days of OPO are finally over?
EDIT: It was the battery all along! Thank you everyone for your feedback and helping me sort out the issue. OPO is still running fine.

Ok now you are telling that also means the battery is the main culprit..
Should I buy a battery from ebay ir contact OP service centre?
Now even twrp won't boot without power!

Yes...i know this problem first hand cause i'm one of the first that have this problem 1 years ago...when a phone required a constant power from charger to boot normally then it is a clear sign of a dying batteries...don't be fool the with batteries percentage while you connect the phone cause it is not accurate anymore...
if you have OP service center nearby then i suggest you buy new batteries from them but if there no service center then buy new batteries in ebay, amazon or etc but you might get OEM's batteries instead of original batteries if you bought it online....still using OEM's batteries can give you around 3-4 hours of SOT depend on how you use it....

I was getting around 1.5 - 2 hr SOT so I think OEM batteries will be fine too. I will still contact oneplus service center to inquire about battery replacement cost. I have seen some videos on youtube. Do you think changing battery by myself will be fairly easy?

I can confirm it is a problem with the batteries because I had almost the same issue on my one running RR.
Just got mine replaced 30 minutes ago and its running smooth. Just need to do few power cycles for calibration.
Good Luck!

Try reflashing an older version of TWRP/ modded version and if that doesn't work, try an AOSP ROM. I had the same problem and got OMNI and AOSP 8.xx to boot.

Now TWRP shuts down in the middle of flashing rom so no other ways. Sorry I was busy these days and OPO was lying dead. I just ordered one battery from eBay and will update once I replace the battery.
Well, I have the exact same issue & coincidentally or not, I was also running Tugapower 49. Phone will boot only with the charger connected. So, battery issue is confirmed.
I'll join your club. About 3 weeks ago had a similar problem but managed to get the phone to boot after an over night charge. The battery was around 13 months old. Ordered a new battery from ebay. Fitted it two days ago and flashed an updated lineage rom last night. My oneplus 1 is now stuck in a boot loop. After flashing and leaving it over night to update, it was still in the boot up logo this morning. Held in power button to kill power. Numerous attempts to boot up the phone failed. Only twice have I managed to get it to boot to TWRP recovery. Both times I have tried to resort to flashing the previous ROM, but still get stuck in the loop. I'm waiting to let it get to a full charge, then I'll try a fastboot method and pray that that works. I'll update if/when I get sorted

Well.... had phone plugged into laptop charging. Wrote the above post. not 10 mins after, booted into Recovery first time, reflashed and got it working again........ wish I knew what was going off here but, its working now.
Had the same issue 4 months ago and I'm 99% sure it's the battery. Change it.
Replaced th battery. But in the process something messed up. First, touch would not recognize. Upper connector was loose. Now reconnected that and flashed lineage os. Having ghost touch constantly on "wipe" button position of twrp. This just started after setting up lineage. But the main issue was battery!

There shouldn't be ghost touch problem after you changes the batteries unless you disconnect other ribbons and didn't reconnect it properly...dissemble the phone and disconnect all ribbon and reconnect it again for further test....

Oneplus 6 | stuck in battery too low | soft brick | recovery help needed

Oneplus 6 is rooted with magisk (but magisk hasn't been updated)
Able to charge and connect to pc as a Qualcomm modem

My Oneplus 6 phone randomly after charging went black and was stuck in a bootloop, after a while I was able to escape the bootloop. Shortly after the screen goes black and now I am prompted with "Battery is too low" screen. After trying many other things of trying to recover the phone, such as: Fully draining the battery then charging it again, charging it for over 24 hours, to "trickle" charging the phone. I wasn't able to bring the phone back.
I don't really know if it this is a battery coordination error or an actual battery error. My goal is to try to recover the phone with no data loss, I've been looking around other forms trying to see how to recover data using QFIL of writing the storage then writing it back to the phone. I have also purchased a 64gb Micro SD card in hope of being able to recover the data using TWRP which I do have on my phone, but I am not able to acess recovery mode, because I am stuck in the "battery too low" screen.
Any help is appreciated. My current last resort option would probably be trying to "unbrick" the phone using MSM downloader tool. My goal here is to try to reserve the data on my phone and be able to hopefully revive my phone, because I don't believe I am in a hard brick.
I had a sucessful operation using MSM tool upgrading the os with "enchilada_22_J.50_210121.ops" but is still stuck in battery is too low.
it may be a stupid solution but have you tried pressing the power button for a while?
another solution can be addressed in physically removing the battery for a while. You'll need the glue or the new adhesive tape at least

From the photo you provided, your phone enters Emergency Download Mode (EDL mode)when connected to the computer so you may search for related data about EDL mode.

Sorry i was busy with an exam.
I've had a similar issue on a Sony Xperia Z2 and a Sony Xperia Z3 and after disconnecting the battery I've managed to solve the problem.
the oneplus 6 it's simplier to disassemble but i would suggest you to change the battery as said by @LR7875, just in case.

Replaced the battery but the same problem still persists. I was searching online and appearently oneplus phones have a chip to lock the phone from charging. Is there any way to bypass this?

Usually using a low Ampere (<1A) charger would solve the issue. Leave the phone connected in charge for 1h and let us know.

I don't know what to say...
You can try this last thing...
1.Remove the battery.
2. Unplug anything from the phone.
3.Using a paperclip or something made out of metal connect the positive and the negative battery connectors ON THE PHONE for a few seconds.
4. Reconnect battery.
5. Reconnect 1A 5V adapter.
DO NOT SHORT-CIRCUIT THE BATTERY! IT CATCHES FIRE AND EXPLODES!

My Phone was charging for a second when connected to my pc, but this was during my time off of the PC. If I were to recall the events to the best of my knowledge. I believe my phone was just plugged in (old battery), for a long period of time (1-5 hours) then after I turned off my pc for about (2-4 hours) and when I turned it back on it was charging but stayed at only 1% and unable to restart or anything. I wanted to try to recreate this with the new bought battery installed but I was unable to recreate this. I believe this confirms your theory before of charging it with a low ampere for an extended amount of time.

Alright, so please do the following:
-Unplug the battery for 1h (it will allow condenser to discharge).
-Plug-in the battery (the new one)
-Plug in the low-amp charger for one night (8h or so)
You'll have to try many times: even changing the order of the last 2 passages however it's not recommended to plug the charger first but in my case it worked.
NB. If it starts charging let it plugged until reaches at least 20%, boot the phone and switch with a 1A charger then power it off with the 1A charger.
