Just tried to unlock the bootloader for james / Moto E5 Play and Motorola currently isn't allowing the bootloader to be unlocked.
James uses the same msm8937 SoC /msm8920 baseband as the E4, so I pretty much had TWRP and the Lineage devices trees ready to go...but can't do anything without unlocking the bootloader.
Just passing on some info...bug Motorola. I'm good to go.
Damn, I was going to try tonight. I got the Boost mobile variant. Guess you save me the headache of trying. Thanks.
BL Unlocked
Try again I just unlocked mine. Got it last night at Walmart

So you are confirming bootloader unlock on the Boost Moto E5 Play?
Yes sir I am. XT1912-5 is my model #
Im also confirming. It wasn't until after I did everything through out setup it ungeye the OEM unlock switch. BTW exact same with the g6 play. And the xt1922-7 is the bomb.
What steps did u take to unlock. I entered device info into Motorola website and it can find unlock code for bootloader
I tried today and it finally let me unlock it. Will get TWRP working tonight (Hopefully).
What's the method to unlock the bootloader? I've been recommending this to all my college friends
Go to Google and type in Motorola Bootloader unlock. Click on any of the first 3 links and follow each step exactly as it says. Don't skip anything or mis read/jump paragraphs
I tried this but I got a bad key error. What should I do next? Mind you that I triple checked the key was correct and yes, it was
Following for info.

All the Moto devices say "bad key" when you unlock the bootloader. That's probably normal.
The Cricket Wireless variant, XT1921-2, does not qualify for bootloader unlocking according to Motorola's web site. Fsck.
Boost e5 play unlocked. Got bad key error as well then just powered on as usual
The "bad key" error when flashing the /recovery and the /boot partitions, as many of you probably already know, is completely normal and will not cause any adverse issues other than the annoying nag during boot. When the bootloader is in an unlocked state, and the /boot or /recovery partitions are flashed with an image which is not digitally signed by Motorola, a qFuse is blown during the /aboot boot chain and /tz sends the "bad key" notation to the /logo partition. A workaround to this is to flash a custom boot logo with a light color near the top which effectively hides the nag.
Don't know if confirmations are still needed, about a month ago i was denied a unlock key, tried last night after seeing all the success here, unlocked easy as pie. Boost mobile e5 play. Will be watching for some custom ROMs, hopefully someone can hide from Safetynet once again
Can anyone confirm if Moto E5 Play actually has treble? I know it ships with 8.0 but I want to be absolutely 100% positive
I also have the cricket e5 cruise and the moto website is not letting me unlock no matter what I try,.

I know that you can go to Motorola's site to unlock the bootloader on the Motorola version of Moto G. Does the Google Edition of the G automatically come with an unlocked bootloader? Several sources have different specs. Engaget reports that the Google version comes with an unlocked bootloader, a few other sources say no. Can anyone clear this up for me, I just ordered my Google Play edition because my area has the new 1900mhz coverage.
Update: Here is Engaget's quote" Lastly, the Google Play edition will come with an unlocked bootloader straight out of the box, in case you prefer to play around with different ROMs. (You can technically unlock the bootloader on the original G, but you have to go through the proper steps to do it.) I will get mine today, and report back with the results.
I would think it is locked?
My nexus 4 from the play store had a locked bootloader.

I don't see any reason to doubt what Engadget says. I assume that they have checked it as they placed a handson video: http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/16/moto-g-google-play-edition-hands-on/
GPE devices don't come with a unlocked bootloader. But all it takes is one simple command line to unlock it.

You're thinking of Nexus devices. GPe's still need to go through their respective manufacturer to unlock the bootloader. Like the HTC One GPe. You could unlock the bootloader, but you still needed to go through HTC's Dev site to do it.
No you don't. The regular HTC One needs to go through HTC Dev (like you do with the G) but the GPe One works with just 'fastboot oem unlock', no token or anything.
Does the Moto G Play Store Edition show the same warning if the Bootloader is unlocked when powering on?
It's probably have a open padlock on bootup like the others
is there any real difference on these two devices aside from how the bootloader is unlocked?

Hello,
The bootloader on the Moto G play store edition is unlockable simply with the $ fastboot oem unlock command. You do not need an unlock code from the motorola web site to unlock it. You do need to read and agree on to the disclaimer on device.
After unlock, the experience is akin to the nexus experience, and the power-on screen will just show the "Unlocked" icon (open keylock)
Thanks

so the method for flashing roms and everything is identical afterwards? no messing about flashing kernel via pc like with htc devices?
So if the GPE version can be unlocked without any token it would be fine if we could use the GPE Bootloader on the normal Moto G and make a backup of the existing one. Would this help us to make a workaround for the warranty problem? Is this possible?
Should be, yes. As long as a complete image comes out for the GPe.
They've done it on the HTC One.

But that was a HTC decision not a Google one in guess, however, hope this theory will become practicable.
It is itching in my fingertips to unlock since i have this device ( exactly 1 week). Now i'll wait definitely longer.
Curious to know what comes up.
What I mean is that users of the HTC One users have the option to use the GPe bootloader, thanks to S-OFF.
With the G you can flash other firmwares without unlocking as long as they're signed, so it should install no trouble (as long as an image is found).

Update: I just got my Moto G Play Edition, first..I love it. upgrading from a Galaxy S II, much better display, works great. The bootloader is locked.
Here is an update from Engaget: Update: it turns out that the Google Play edition's bootloader is just like the standard version -- it's unlockable, but not unlocked directly out of the box.
I will wait a few months to see if other Roms come out for the "G" before I unlock the bootloader and root the phone.

I have the same problem
hopefully someone is going to help us
I have heard it mentioned that you can temporarily root the ATT/AIO/Cricket XT1045 on Android 4.4.4, but not permanently (yet). I have no idea how, though.
Can someone help us out?
I had an hour or so long talk with an AT&T employee who actually knew what they were talking about. I believe due to restrictions in ATT tech chat, he was unable to post either links or straight out tell me how to do it, but he said that it is very possible.
Perhaps people should try logging into their AT&T account and using the tech chat to see what someone can come up with.
Has any progress been made on this? I have XT1045 from Cricket Wireless (owned by AT&T) and the bootloader is not unlockable using the conventional method.

OK. Here I go. Sorry I'm kind of new to XDA. I too have a xt1045 and I just unlocked the boot loader and I too am on ATT.
I bought my phone from Motorola unlocked, idk if ATT or cricket or whatever carrier sells them unlocked too. That may affect bootloader unlocking since you may need an unlocked device to see unlock boot loader.
Now down to the bootloader code.
Make sure you are copying the code correctly from the command prompt. I think the first time I tried to unlock bootloader, I may have copied wrong or something like that. Also, I have heard reports of people retrying, have their devices verified, and getting a code to unlock bootloader. Hopefully that is the case for you guys and unlocking is a viable option.
Hope I helped
Feel free to ask me question about unlocking the bootloader.
I haven't rooted yet and I am getting ready for that.
FYI: you we're able to unlocked your bootloader only because you purchased your device directly from Motorola. The rest of us who purchased from a carrier are F*CKED.

Yeah except i was only replying to him saying if you got your moto G from a carrier it's locked always your f**ked , and that aint so ..
And I didn't say carrier unlocked uh I got it from a carrier new , so yeah soon as I opened the box and entered bootloader it said unlocked yes and no warning screen upon boot either saying this device has been unlocked .
For you guys with At&T-XT1045 or any try this k , Lemme know if it worked
1.) Unlink your Device from motorola ID which means dont be signed in from your device in settings menu -unlink it & don't log in with your google account neithaa dawg.
2.) Unlink from motorola site if needed if option is there
3.) Sign into website and drag the entire policy bar to the bottom (like you read it in entirety) click I agree and check for key eligibility again
4.) Try again with IE 11 if you haven't used it already
5.) recheck your string letter for freakin letter removes all spaces make sure you include # signs try one more time.. There are 4-5 spaces when you just copy/paste the string so paste the code into notepad with any extra spaces deleted please.
See here from about 3:00 on -->> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjsO7t5ulhw
6.) If all that failed spend $25 get http://theroot.ninja/ ( for only 5.01 or lower - doesn't work on 5.02 I heard)
7.) If all else has failed head to thee motorala-forumwhere they are informing moto G owners to send email with their fastboot oem get_unlock_data + fastboot getvar al, and they should be able to accomodate you..
8.) Proceed to adb Sideload or Flash This Total Sauciness Either Way Moto G 2014 Owners

You might be able to flash if you are able to unlock your bootloader, which i believe you should be able to. 1 get your self adb and fastboot tools , along with moto drivers if you need them (windows). If i was you i would just taste out some roms instead, cricket and verizon firmware come with locks on em.
I myself am stuck i can no longer even get factory images to flash over in my phone fastboot responds with bootloader would downgrade so it flashboot fails. I have a recent zip from loli dated jan 30 2019 and current bootloader on my supra is from july 26 2018. Anybody else having problems with their supras?:crying:

I would assume you might have not followed the flashfile.xml in its complete form.
particularly:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
From my limited understanding that section flashes stock but also recovers the phones internal/protected/hidden identifier information into the appropriate areas to work with newly flashed stock images.
Mainly posting in hopes it helps someone, partially in hopes of clarification of my limited understanding. >

HHello, I wanted to consult something before getting into a problem. I have the moto g100 with the challenge channel, since the Android 12 ota did not come out for this channel, I decided to install the Android 12 retail ota, Everything worked correctly, but now I want to install my original firmware which is RETAR and block the bootloader, so my question is the following, can I flash my original firmware and lock the bootloader?.
Yes if you flash ORGINAL ROM (Android Version) for your device you can LOCK bootloader for your device.
Lock the bootloader at your own risk, this forum has a thread full of people who have bricked their device after relocking.
Phone wouldn't boot into the system after bootloader locking back...
I wanted to help someone whose phone wouldn't boot into the system after bootloader locking back, phone hangs on a red warning. And in the process of experimenting myself got confused and got into the same situation. Unlocking the bootloader...
forum.xda-developers.com
The stock roms found on lolinet won't boot after relocking and you'll loose the ability to flash anything else. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Also, you can't downgrade the bootloader. What this means is that if you flash older Android 11 stock image it may result in bootloop.
I have a G8 doha that was hard bricked a few years ago.. It did not show up in device manger at all, no matter how i tried. Not even the Qualcomm mode. This did happen after locking bootloader or change slot A/B. (Don't remember, sorry). The phone was totally dead, so it was just "archieved for later use".. Then one month ago i found a description on how to wake it up to qualcomm mode by shorting two points on pcb. I tried, and it did work. Phone showed up in device manager, and i flashed blankflash. After that i flashed stock rom. Phone is now working again. I had to do several tries to get it up running. The description on how to do it was not accurate, but i found a sequence to start it. Unfortunately i don't remember exactly. It is something with pushing/holding a button when connecting USB or shorting points on pcb.. Youtube link show how to do it..

Yes I relock my bootloader on the Moto g100 the North American version. Right after I did it I tried to set up my phone and it wanted my last four digit Google pin code and if you didn't do it fast enough it kept rebooting so for a half hour I tried everything under the sun Google kept asking me I want to try another way. But I have two step verification on my Google account so it couldn't send me the code over my telephone number so after a couple tries using the recover my account option underneath which asked you like personal information like your name and everything it finally gave me three options of three different Google emails I have. I got my unlock code and unlock the bootloader without using a PC or a computer. I used bugjaeger. The premium app is well worth the $10 it works super easy and super efficient

Is the Motorola website not working properly for unlocking the bootloader on devices? Every time i try to request the unlock key for it a page that only says "There has been an error with your request." appears. What can i do to unlock the bootloader even with this error?
Where did you get your phone? Some bootloaders are not unlockable.

If the previous owner possibly still owes money on it then you can't unlock the bootloader. You'd have to get the unlock app from TMO and they'd have to authorize it to make it unlockable bootloader, which TMO won't do if there's money owed on it.
You should be able to unlock it. The exception is if the previous owner relocked the bootloader. In that case, the bootloader cannot be reunlocked.

the Device Unlock app says that its permantly unlocked
Edit: the seller i bought it from said the IMEI associated with the phone was clean and said it had no problems having to do with not being paid off
I am also having a problem. This seems to be a problem with their website. I tried different browers, computers, and connections. Get that error every time after submitting the device key.
I tried with my new G100, and I have the same error. Any idea of a workaround?
I am having the same error with my Motorola G Stylus 2020 it has to be with their websites ive tried different browsers, computers, they need to solve this issue!!!
same error, i pray their system is down temporarily, G100 with different browsers.
I tried all methods that involve the motorola website I found on the forum but none work. I contacted motorola support, I'll keep you posted if I find anything.
Same here. I called and finally got level 2 support which said they couldn't help. They sent me to the motorola forums where I've asked about it. Will post if I get a reply as well.
Here is a link for the motorola unlock bootloader thread. Post your device ID there

I asked support and they told me the site was down and should be up in a few day. I re-tried now and it worked. I got my code. But the OEM unlock option in the developer settings is still grayed out. Apparently I have to wait which is stupid, I'm very close to just return the phone.

Ok, for reference, as there are some different things scattered alongside the forum.
I have a G100, german model (I'm in switzerland, but it's considered german).
What I had to do:
- go here <https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a>
- contrary to what customer service told me, the global portal works, even with a german model
- the website was down, but it's up now, if it's down for you, I guess you'll have to try again, customer support did not help me
- BUT, to be able to use the unlock code with `fastboot oem unlock <code>` you need first to activate "OEM unlock" in the Developer settings.
- To access this settings, you need to activate the phone. Some says it works on wifi, but I used LTE for the initial setup, just to be sure. After the setup, I did a few calls, I don't know if this is significant, but the first call took like 5 minutes to connect (I say this because you might be tempted to turn the phone off right after the activation). I applied all the updates, left my phone on my desk, and after 72h this settings was accessible (not grayed).
- After toggling the setting, you can use `fastboot oem unlock` and proceed with lineage installation
I just successfully bootloader unlocked a Moto G 5G (2022) using the website. It took them about five minutes to email me the unlock code after I submitted the string on the website.
Keep in mind that you are referencing two different things: network locks, and bootloader locks. The device may have a clean IMEI and be network unlocked (you can use any carriers SIM in the SIM tray). This doesn't necessarily mean that the bootloader can be unlocked for purposes of flashing custom ROMS. You'll need a phone that is both network unlocked and has an unlockable bootloader.
that's why wiko is better........
I'm having the same issue but with my xt2131-1 model. I received the unique code via email and it says failed to validate code.
