Force / Set OTG mode without ID/Sense pin - General Questions and Answers

Anyone knows any method to set USB host mode (OTG mode) when not having a ID/Sense pin on the cable?
Be it with some sort of "echo 1 > /sys/something" command
Or a ADB command
Or a ready made app?
Or anything?
I did find this app, which seems to do this, but it is just stuck on my tablet.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.psypeople.OTG_patch&hl=en
The reason for this request is that I cannot find any of those "magnet cables" that connect all 5 pins. Always only 4.
And I want my car-tablet to be connected with a magnet cable.
Many thanks

have same problem, is there any way activate USB HOST mode on android 7.1.1 if no SENSE/ID PIN but hardware/kernel support USB OTG?

If the device does not have the hardware to support OTG, it won't work no matter what you try.
If it has the hardware but does not have the software, it will require building a new kernel with OTG support implemented in the kernel, or if the device is rooted, you can try something like the Stickmount app to force enable OTG support(the app still requires the device to have the hardware to support OTG, otherwise, it won't work).

[Q] ADB (again)

I have installed the moto drivers and then connect my Xoom to the B port. I have debugging turned on.
Here's what I get:
E:\xoom>adb devices
List of devices attached
161c110242c015d7 offline
E:\xoom>adb shell
error: device offline
I have run clean and reinstall on the installer without any change.
Any advice?
You need to be in the folder on your computer with adb in it.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I am in that folder.
Is your device locked? As in, do you have a lock password/PIN that you need to input first?
Try a different cable.
Different cable no help. Any other ideas?
Just an idea... are you using a USB hub or one of the USB ports from the front of your PC? Sometimes these ports don't provide enough power to communicate with certain devices. Try one of the ports on the back of the PC.
Other than that, reboot your PC and the Xoom and try again
I'll be darned! I plugged it into the back (USB port on motherboard) instead of the front and voila!
You are the man!
Now that you have answered that question so well, please answer this one!
I am trying to run adb install xxxx.apk but it just hangs. I have the Xoom set to allow installation of non-market applications.
Any ideas?
Never mind - a reboot all around fixed that. Thanks for everyone's help.

Oh, I had this problem before. You can connect a mouse to your phone, and use that to control your phone. Just buy a micro usb to usb cable adapter, and connect a usb mouse to it.

Does your phone has been rooted?
If yes, adb shell into your phone as root and dump out all the partiotions on the phone on your SD card and then finally pull them out.
All the partitons can be seen with "ls -l /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name".
If your phone has not been rooted then try to have the SuperU boot.img and boot with to gain root privillege and dump all the partitions out as describe above. ( ATTENTION, I said BOOT with and NOT FLASH it)
Good luck
Cheer.
I was able to reboot in recovery by using key combo and clear the security key thru adb. With that, I have taken backup using titanium backup thru VNC client

access my broken screen phone lineage OS

I have an LG g3 with the latest lineage OS, unfortunately the screen broke and I can't interact with it. I saw an app called vyzor but I can't install it, wifi closed, no touch, and I can't ring how to install an app using adb in twrp. The usb is enabled but the device is in "charging mode" and not mpt so I can't use adb while the device is open. How should I tackle that problem?
Ps: I can't find a single store with otg USB in order to use my pc's mouse

Assuming that you've got USB debug enabled you can use PC using a tool found on our beloved forums, not sure if it works on your phone, but it's worth a try
!!The method to enable USB debug is included in thread!!
PS: no need to be in side load to enable USB debug if you want to need just a custom recovery.

Software or Hardware issue ? unable to transfer data from PC via type C cable

ASUS ZS551KL(dark blue) failed to transfer data from PC via type C cable but charging works.
ZS551KL did not ask me "allow to transfer from PC" after connecting to type C cable as usual.
same cable works to another ZS551KL(white).
But Type C USB flash driver works well with both.
It occurred one day suddenly. All of those accessories are the same as before(cables、PC).
Could anyone help?

Thank you
I did but remain same.
If rebooting PC & phone hasn't resolved, one way of testing phone's USB-C port would be trying ADB (e.g. "adb.exe shell ls -l /place/of/interest", "adb.exe pull /place/of/interest/desired*files" following setup like https://wiki.lineageos.org/adb_fastboot_guide.html ). HTH

Android file transfer using a USB cable

Hi,
For some reason I can no longer transfer files from my Android device to my Linux PC using Android File Transfer.
I can list the device:
sudo adb devices -l
List of devices attached
????????? device usb:1-4 product:OnePlus5T model:ONEPLUS_A5010 device:OnePlus5T transport_id:2
Click to collapse
but Andorid File Transfer (version 4.2) wouldn't start with this phone. When I attach an older phone (Nexus 4) all is fine and I can transfer files without problem.
USB Debugging is enabled on the device.
On USB Preferences File Transfer is selected. Other options are USB tethering, MIDI, PTP, No data transfer.
Any help will be appreciated.
Update: problem solved - had to use root privilidges
Try another cable. Cliché but it's often the culprit. When you get the USB mode popup just cancel it and it'll decide on its own. Disable USB debugging as it doesn't need to be on. Try other USB ports, or the last one it was known working on. Failing that see if there's a proprietary software. Microsoft Your Phone Companion might help..
