Got the phone yesterday, and playing with it today, I'm noticing some issues with the phone that I hope can be corrected, because I'm kind of regretting the purchase.
First off, auto brightness turns itself off constantly. Every few minutes. Browsing facebook, twitter, etc and going nowhere near the controls, all of a sudden my screen with double the brightness for no reason, and when I check, auto brightness is unchecked in the pulldown menu. VERY annoying.
Opening links in Hangouts or Google Messenger to Chrome occasionally lags the phone out completely, or the click registers and does nothing.
I'm hoping that this is either a defective phone I can have replaced, or something fixed with a quick software update, but it's aggravating to deal with. Jumping from the Nexus 5 to a non-AOSP phone has me hesitate enough, and this isn't helping.
Edit: Just remembered, I turned off Samsung's keyboard and I'm using Google's official keyboard, and the Samsung keyboard keeps enabling itself! It's not actually switching to the Samsung keyboard, but I'm literally sliding the switch to "off", and it's sliding back to the on position on it's own accord.
Can confirm, auto brightness turns off automatically.

Do a hard reset. Chances are that all of the issues will be fixed.
Touch wiz lag is awful after installing all of my apps. I'm also wondering why I have to swipe to unlock even when it's set for just fingerprint.
Couldn't say anything about Touchwiz, as I'm using Nova Launcher. Only get lag when I'm clicking links, as mentioned. Going to do a factory reset and see what happens. I REALLY hate doing this without Titanium Backup, and Helium was buggy as all hell. For the initial setup, I ended up manually installing all the apps I had on my Nexus 5, which was a pain in my god damned ass.
anyone rooted yet? just curiuos if anyone has tried?

I'm not rooting until they either confirm tripping knox won't affect Samsung Pay, or there's a way to root without tripping it at all.
So I just did a hard reset, and of COURSE there's no way to keep your storage intact when you reset (**** you Samsung), the device switcher won't work with the Nexus 5 (Again, **** you Samsung), and I had to redownload every app by hand. As much as we ALL hate Apple, iTunes backup & restore is SORELY needed on Android.

I changed my screen from Adaptive to basic, after I did a hard reset. Only been an hour but it hasn't toggled itself yet.

I did a factory reset as well but left adaptive on, so far so good.

are you saying the phone lags??? wtf...again???
Not experiencing any of this. My screen is set to basic though. No lag, using Chrome but not using messenger or hang outs. No keyboard issue either.

Not seeing this either. Restored 90+apps
Finger print working without having to swipe

I did receive a charger that didn't work out of the box though and had to get credited some money so that I could buy a oem fast charging charger
Are you saying that the phone doesnt lag at all even after installing/restoring 90 apps??

I'm not seeing much lag if at all, but I WAS seeing the issue with the Auto-Brightness, until I did a hard reset.
Battery issues are pretty bad, but it seems to just need a software update, or an updated radio. The Cell Standby drain is strong with this phone.
Of the lag I did see, my phone actually froze up, gave a snowy image on half the screen, then crashed. Only happened once, so I'm not worried (yet).
One thing that's annoying the hell out of my though: Swiping the notification shade down takes a few tries, and sometimes clicks dont register. I never experienced this before on other phones, but I've noticed it happens more when I hit things with the sides of my thumb vs touching it flat. very odd.

You really need to calm down and stop acting like the sky is falling. The first batch is ALWAYS buggy, and that's exactly what this is, and what this thread is about. Software bugs.

And to add to that, the phone hasn't even been OFICIALLY released yet. It releases in 9 days. There are obviously glitches before releases...

EXACTLY! I especially love the "T-Mobile is so awesome, look how fast they're releasing updates for the S6! No other carrier has yet!"
Uhhhh... Which other carriers have the phones in people's hands at this point in time? Oh yeah, right.

its not about getting calm, its not the first time a samsung flagship lags when they are released, we always say they will release an update to sooth everything up, but it never happens...do not try to convince your self that the phone is perfect...you have to accept facts, believe me i really, really hope they fix these bugs and lags....because as i said i am planning to get a new phone in two weeks and the S6 is the only option...

Stop making assumptions. The phone isn't even released yet in most parts of the world.

ONE person mentioned lag. ONE. Most people in that thread said they didn't see lag. but there you go saying "OH NO, Samsung has done it again!"
Again, it's not even released yet, the phone has bugs. RELAX and let this work itself out.
So, I can use the OK GOOGLE command while the screen is off AND THE PHONE IS CHARGING
But, cannot get it to work OFF of the charger.
I hate/don't want to use S-Voice which apparently does work with the wake up command, but even that doesn't work. I say my command and S-Voice never kicks in.
Anyone else notice this? Anyone have it working?
any thoughts?
I'm trying so hard to not root.

I thought the S6 would be like moto X which lets you use the google now functionality with the screen off... or is that moto own search assistant?

That ONLY works on Motorola phones. There's an app to try to hack it, but it wasn't working when I tried.

Completely false. The Note 4 & Note 4 Edge are both capable, and I believe the S5 is too. Hence, the S6 is as well.

Didn't know about the Note, because, well, I don't care much about the Note. A quick google search says you need an app to hack it on the S5 (as I mentioned), so saying "Hence, it's available for the S6" it's kind of incorrect. As for the S6, I have one in my hand and it doesn't work. It's not capable as of right now, and the only tutorial out there doesn't work.
Its not necessarily the fault of any phone. Google is to blame. In the OK detection options it says with phone locked while charging, and that indeed does work. Guess Google couldn't figure out how to do it like Motorola does without massive drain to the battery!
SVoice works and IMO is better from a locked, screen off position as it can still do some things, and haven't seen it show up at all in the battery screen nor GSAM battery monitor. I would think Samsung would have optimized SVoice for battery consumption since they slimmed down the batteries.
That said I would rather just have one voice app running and prefer Google now.

It would make absolutely zero sense for it to be included in the Note 4 but not the new flagship.
When I get my S6 tomorrow I will test it myself, but I am betting you missed a setting in S-Voice or something of that nature
I'll test the S5 when I get home

There's lots of stuff available in the Note that isn't in the S6, plus the menus are completely different. I'm not new to this.

Never indicated that I thought you were "new to this", you can stop with the defensive approach
A little research and I found out the reason in 1 minute.
The Snapdragon 805 (which is in the Note 4) is set up to have an "always listening" mode. Since the S6 has the Exynos processor, that may be the reason. So at this point, I would say you are correct, as I do not have any further information at this time.

Eh, didn't mean to come off as defensive, so my apologies. Honestly, this entire section of XDA is starting to get a little toxic, and it's wearing on me. Again, sorry about that.
That being said, in theory it SHOULD work fine, as the Exynos has that feature for S-Voice, but I think we'll have to wait for the device to be out for a while for someone to figure out a fix.

Perhaps this will work, but I don't know - at any rate, looks like I am wrong about the Exynos not having that ability

Reread the post I linked, which you were in. That link was mentioned, and we tried, and it failed for all of us. I think it WILL work (eventually, with a hack/app), but the software on the S6 is buggy as **** right now, and a lot of features aren't working as they should.
Half the time S-Voice doesn't even wake the phone, and that's SUPPOSED to be a feature.

It's driving me crazy, OK Google almost never works from everywhere. Tried on stock T-Mobile, LeeDroid, etc., almost never works even tho i have it all set up like usual. Never had this problem on other devices. Is this a known issue on the M9? I don't see too much about it..
Edit: sorry, meant to post this in Troubleshooting section..

I'm sure you have doubled checked the setting is enabled already, check out Open Mic+ it might allow you to get around this issue. I haven't used this app much so I wouldn't know the steps you would have to take, but I know that this app is well liked and has a lot of features that might help you out here.
EDIT: There is also Commandr which is a pretty cool little app to go along with this if you can get your voice activation to work.
Thanks for the suggested apps, I'll have a look. My OK Google is all set up like normal, and it works about half the time, which is a bit baffling..

So, when I say ok google, I get the prompt with "How can I help" but I coulda swore she used to actually say it. Does anyone elses actually talk and ask "how can I help" rather than just the text showing up?
IF so, trying to figure out whats wrong here...
An update removed it. This way it is now is majorly streamlined compared to the 7.1 Assistant in October when I got the phone. It worked yah, but this is smooth now.
It doesn't cut me off mid sentence nearly as much.
I am pretty sure yours is working fine if it gives audio feedback with some answers. Just a beep to start seems normal for me currently.

Today I noticed I wasn't receiving many texts sent to me.
Of course I went first to check permissions and make sure everything was on. I just happened to click the app details section taking me to Google play.
I was surprised to see it said not supported any more?? And only for the 8 series???
Any thoughts?
