Hi, I’m new in this forum and I’m a very beginner. I have a Tp-link C5 max (702C) [rooted] and I want to upgrade from Android 5.1 to 7.1.2. but there’s no official upgrade (and may be never) or customs ROMs for the device. I think that it is possible but I don’t know how.
After a little research I concluded that I need “port” a ROM or “customize” my own ROM. Is that correct? If it’s, could you help me telling me exactly what to change and how? If not, any idea to do that?
Thanks a lot

I have heard of an utility to update system software other than OTA or custom ROM. Its name is firmware finder, ff.
But I have not used that utility and I prefer OTA for my android devices. Just for your reference.

I tried to find the utility but it seems that it is only for Huawei devices. Any other idea?

I've been reading alot of the thread on this forum, about how to flash gem-703L rom to 701/702. But I'm still unsure if it's a good idea to convert your 701/702 to 703, lets say that I wanted to stay stock on my converted 702>703, will the OTA cause any problems ?
I understood that it's not possible to go back to the stock 701/702 rom, unless Huawei decide to make a similar ROM version for 701/702.
I would love to have a feedback from those who has converted their 701/702 to 703 please comment with some pro/cons.

There are no cons so far. Actually there are all pros to upgrading. You'll be on a newer version of Lollipop, you'll get Marshmallow when it drops, you'll have access to custom ROMS and you won't have those 5.0 bugs.
Ive to decide to buy this phone
So im in italy , 701L has the right bands, if I upgrade to 703L for getting marshmellow then I have problema with bands?
If yes then how I get android 6?
Thanks
I did a 701>703 Upgrade and the only con so far is the more complex update process. As far as i know, if you want to stay stock, you have to flash a Custom Boot everytime you want to make an OTA update. So flash TWRP Recovery, flash the latest Custom Boot, flash the appropriate Stock Recovery, do the OTA update.
At least thats is my own experience, please correct me if i am totally wrong.
But this is really the only disadvantage and only if you want to stay stock. In return you get a blazing fast device with the latest OS, features and incredible battery life.

For Marshmellow you have to wait some time.
As @audioralf says here, you do not lose your bands.
I read mamu guides, the first one posted work so on 701l?
Thanks
This one worked for me

I still haven't convert my 702 to 703, I'm not 100% sure about the conversion because I need google apps/contacts and so on. I'm not sure how it's done when I've convert the phone, will I be able to add a google account normally? will all my contacts/mail/calendar sync normally like on the gem 702 ?

Is there any catch at all ? I've read that someone had problem with encryption his phone, after converting to 703.
I just want a 100% working phone after the conversion, will no catch at all.
If I'm wrong in any matter please feel free to enlight me
I saw the guide but I dont have the sd card, its needed right ? I just got a fresh phone
anywway im on 701L b003, any link to guide to upgrade this firmware ?

Hello guys, I just want to get help with updating my MT7-L09C900B324 TO marshmallow I've noticed that this is a difficult procedure most of all because of the firmwares. Thats why I thought it might be great to gather the best firmwares.. And help people that are in the same situation... Cheers
That is difficult as it depends on whether it's Chinese firmware or international, whether or not it has dual SIM and what region the existing firmware is for. So many combinations.
IMO, only use an update or ROM that has an included pdf stating what versions it can update. Check this against what is installed. Many people brick through haste and ignorance.
You also need stock recovery to do it. Bootloader can be locked or unlocked for OTA or update. I prefer to unroot too, if just an OTA update. I also think it safest to wipe cache and dalvik. Start fresh.

Updating huawei ascend mate 7 to marshmallow
As far as I know it's the Malaysian firmware, I update it manually seems it was taking too long for the Ota to arrive. Of course, from kitkat to lollipop. Now, the Ota supposed to be kicking in but I got nothing.. Do you think it has something to do with the firmware that I have? I thought it was because of that, and believe if I don't change it, will never work
Hi all,
I have just got a Cubot S600 to try out Android as I have always been a Windows Mobile user.
The phone comes with 5.1 out the box, would it be possible to flash it with 6.0?
Many thanks in advance.

Official update of marshmallow is not released yet for your phone. You can check for updates in your phones settings if you want.cubot hasn't released list of phones to receive the updates either.
You can flash unofficial android 6 custom ROM if it is available
Look it up

Thanks for the reply, I understand that marshmallow is not available.
When I was cooking my own winmo6.5 ROMs I had to only have certain ROMs. I have been out the game a while, would any ROM work, or would I need specific roms ?

You would need device specific ROM or else your phone won't boot.

Hi everyone,
I m a little confuse and when I say a little, I mean a lot, about the way to go from a L29C432B582, unlocked bootloader to a ROM with EMUI 8 to Openkirin. I read than oreo isn't available for L29, so have I to flash a Chinese ROM, or something ? Some help could be great. And why not make of this tread an how to for all firmware versions to go to openkirin, but I can figurate this just by myself. Does anyone know my path ? And could you please explain the way you have proceed to go to OpenKirin, or even and other Oreo Rom, from where you come to where you are now. With link to the thread and files you had use, lot of link seems dead. It could be really helpfull for a lot of us.
I will still try to find a way by myself and update this thread, but any help would be really appreciate.
I had think in a first place I had to go to a stock rom, for reach the official update, but if I can't have the EMUI 8 for L29C432 it will be a dead end.
Best regards
You will have to debrand your phone to the chinese version of mate 8 in order to update your phone to oreo. You have the thread with all the instructions in the forum. If you dont do this, you wont be able to flash any open kirin roms.
This is the thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/discussion-oreo-huawei-mate-8-t3785320
Hi,
Thanks Leverkusen
Did you make this ? What firmware have you ? Did the update could be done OTA ? Do I have to paid for DC-Unlock ?
I know that using unofficial ROMs and firmware is always risky, but I'm wondering if this is legit. I want to update my Vivo Y51A (unsupported) to at least Android 8 (Oreo), and this website claims to have all the supplies needed for that, but would they actually work?
How to flash Vivo Y51A. Update to Android 9Pie, 10 Q, 11 | Guideroot

Edit: So it seems that the rooting apps suggested could be dubious. What alternatives (noob-friendly and free) can I use instead, if the rest of this is legit?
Thank you in advance!
Note: I am a noob, please make your answer noob-friendly
It's 11 o'clock at night, do you know where your firmware is?
If there was even the slightest doubt I wouldn't touch it... actions have consequences.

hehe true dont worry im getting help or at least trying to *oof*
Hopefully someone here knows about this variant or has a better plan for you.
My POV: rooting a phone or replacing the stock rom with a custom rom has become a pointless popular sport. At the end of the day, no better device comes out than the one you bought.
To be on the safe side only use rooting tools / custom recoveries / custom ROMs authored by non-chinese people and introduced and provided here on XDA.

Yes I really want a plan apparently LineageOS doesn't have anything for Vivo phones so I need an alternative.

Maybe a better question is why do you want to root it?
