Since i got this phone i sadly realized that...why is that being the case that mate 8 is a powerfull and very famous device?if i always thought i would find a rom for my device is here in xda but i am surprised for bad...the few roms that there are are most based on chinese roms...
I agree. I've spent a lot of time looking for custom rooms for my Mate 8. I used to have a Samsung and there's no lack of roms for that brand. Hopefully more roms will follow for Huawei Mate 8.
Sadly, because the phone doesn't say Samsung/HTC/Google etc...
cuz huawei their own kirin cpu is not open source.
thus devs cant make actual custom rom like aosp, los.
but mate8 oreo support treble. so it's possible to flash aosp rom on mate 8 in the foreseeable future.

Anyone with the proper knowledge to port android one rom from A1 to Mi4c ?
Seen videos that compare the 2 variants, one with miui 9 and the other with android one (same phone, same hardware, identical devices in short) and
android one is a lot faster.
Don't know if it is possible, just had an idea.
Stock android for our device is very interesting as a thought.
Any real Dev which thinks this as a good idea ?
different SoC
Very difficult. If you want to experience faster Android, you can flash lineage OS.

I am on aicp 12.1 right now no complain, excellent work by the devs, but i thought stock would be an interesting alternative.
Anyways....Different soc so not possible.
Dont know if it is possible but i also saw nexus 5x with google pixel rom OREO (same sd 808)
Maybe this is more easy to accomplish ?

Easier theoretically. But libra isn't a famous device and few developers willing to devote to it.
Hi,
I've been using Nexus phones for years, and I'm thinking of buying a phone from the P20 family. I don't really like the version of Android that Huawei ships though, and I'd like to be able to install a stock ROM. I assume that this phone will have Treble support (since it shipped with Oreo) and that, because of that, it should be easy to install a custom ROM on it.
Is all of this correct? Will it be easy to install a custom ROM on these phones, or should I go for a different phone?
I'm also considering buying a P20 Lite tomorrow, how was custom ROMs development on P9 Lite and P10 Lite ?
Judging from the ROM development for the Mate 10 series and as it normally is for Huawei phones, it is not very likely that there will be that many ROMs specifically designed for the P20 phones.
However, installing Treble based ROMs should not be a problem at all. There are several such ROMs available, including AOSP, Lineage, Resurrection Remix, CarbonROM etc. The downsize is that these are often very generic ROMs and Huawei specific features may not be available. For example, third party camera apps often have inferior performance compared to the stock camera app. Sometimes these apps are ported over though.
Thanks for your answer!

So, we can take any Treble based ROM and installed it on any Treble enabled phone, and it will work? Don't specific phones need specific ROMs anymore?

Let's say I install an AOSP ROM and use Google Camera. Should I expect it to take bad pictures, or are you referring to something else when you say inferior performance?
Probably dumb questions, but I've been out of the ROM scene for years.

Yupp, that's pretty much the basic idea. Check out the following thread for more about project Treble.

The thing here is that the stock ROM may nevertheless contain vendor specific code which is not released and may have other proprietary conditions on it. The Google Camera may thus not return the same quality as the stock one. This has at least been the case for Huawei phones, although the stock camera app has been ported over (see the thread above).
I just unlocked the boot loader on my P20 Lite, now waiting patiently for a custom recovery
Custom ROMs are not very likely in Huawei devices
Hi all
Also been using Nexus for quite some time now, and bought a Huawei P20 lady week.
1. The camera is great
2. EMUI is not my cup of tea
My goal the coming weeks is to try to understand if it's likely to see a Treble ROM and if the camera app from EMUI/P20 can be ported.
Tldr; I want to keep the camera functionality but use stock android 8.x
Anyone find anything, please post
Peace ✌?

The camera app should be possible to port. It has been done in the past for both Kirin 960 and 970. Check this out for reference. In that thread the camera is based on the one from Mate 9 but in theory a newer one should be possible.
Still unsure if I should buy Mi Mix 2S or Oneplus 6
For me a working LineageOS 15.1 ROM are essential. With Treble this should be working already but it's pretty quiet in ROM section.
Anybody has it running ?

I guess devs are waiting for this to build device-specific roms.
Some users have reported treble working with some bugs.. And there wont be any device-specific roms until the sources appear on CAF. That will happen soon.
If you need a big developer community I would go for the 1+6, if not the 2s wins (at least for me) because no notch and maybe a better camera(still waiting for tests here)

Treble device development is discussed here, some people reported that treble roms on our phones are working fine with minor bugs (screen blinking on lock/unlock, no support for second camera). I am yet to test these, since my mix 2s is still awaiting bootloader unlock.

Have seen some relatively direct comparisons and the mix clearly has the better camera.
Im also keen to see a Lineage OS build but havent seen much discussion on it or heard any devs that are working on it. I have just onlocked and rooted my phone after waiting the 15 days.
I wonder when more Mi Mix 2s enter the global market, developers have waited 15 days to unlock phones and source code released from Qualcomm that we will see more activity on custom roms.
You can install lineage via treble right here https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...evice-development/lineage-phh-treble-t3767690

Yes, I am aware of that but certain features of the Mi Mix 2s do not work with this version (dual camera for example)

It took almost 6 months for the Mi Mix 2 to get decent, stable, bugfree custom AOSP roms. Now they have plenty. I guess we will just have to be patient.
Would be nice to get some custom MIUI roms in the meantime though

If you take a look here:
https://www.xda-developers.com/qualcomm-snapdragon-845-kernel-source-code/
You will know when it will be possible for devs to start working on our device
I'm new to this treble topic and have a few questions.
Those ROMs are intended to be flashed on ANY device being delivered with Android 8 or higher, right?
I read that some functions will not work as they are not a part of the treble environment. Can anyone tell me which parts of he phone this could on our model?
Has anyone already flashed the pixel experience rom on a Xiaomi MiMix2S? Will anything be broken? E.g. Bluetooth, WiFi, camera, storage?
The kernel is already published if I read that correctly, so it´s just a matter of time before any stock aosp roms will come to our devices, right? Can´t wait - and get rid of MIUI!
Need advice!
Best regards

Main features are all fine, you will find camera not great and 2nd camera not supported, most report treble ROMs having not great battery. But it will work.
M.
Thanks for the advice!
I think I'll wait for now until the Devs work their magic and publish a stable version with all the bells and whistles!
Is there any possibility to install a stock treble rom and install the camera APK afterwards? Would this work?

It will not work. The functionality of the camera is not just related to the APK but also depends on framework and libraries.

We are also waiting for the snapdragon 845 sourcecode, when this is available (first week of July maybe) custom roms are right around the corner
That's great news. Can't wait to get a stable android p ROM for this device.

Flashed, but couldn't boot.
I flashed PHH-Treble 8.1 instead, still finding the MIUI camera or a workable Google camera.
Hey dev,
I'm looking for MIUI 10 Global for my OnePlus 6.
As the MIUI 10 Global stable rom rolled out on Mi8 and others Xiaomi's flagship, i'm asking if a dev can do it.
I think there is a lot of ppl looking for this rom on OP6, and i can't find it.
And remember guys, "GeT A PoCoPhOnE" is the dumbest awnser possible.
Thx you
Just curious, isn't miui one of the heaviest bloated skins? What would make you want that over OxygenOS?
Curious why we want heavy rom if we have Oxygen which is very powerful, clean. My friend using Mi and its heavy bugs a lot bloatware.
One word:
Flashaholic.
We love flashing and can get tired of using the same ROM/UI again and again.
OxygenOS is close to stock android, so all the AOSP ROMs looks similar to OxygenOS.
I would love to use a different UI/UX on my OP6, just for a change.
I would actually flash a stable MIUI 10 ROM, or even Samsung Experience UI
Curious to try also.
Enjoy !

Do you know of any custom ROM in the works? If not is it because the phone is not popular or not available in many regions? Or are the devs waiting for Android 11 to be released for the Zenfone 7?
I am pretty happy with this phone but have some regrets because it seems pretty dead on the xda forums.
One of the reasons I bought it was the good ROM support for the previous Zenfone 6. So I am a bit disappointed.
Or should I just be patient because development will pick up eventually?
Cheers.
I am coming from a galaxy note II and oneplus 3 and have been spoiled in regards to custom ROMs

Devs have ported AOSP to it and are working to make them as stable as possible before releasing! Most devs aren't very active on social media and stay quiet until release, though. I'm pretty sure that any custom ROMs will be compatible with both the ZF7 and 7 Pro.

Agreed.
Its a great device and yes the forums aren't very active, but there is some activity nonetheless and there WILL be a custom rom out soon. In the meantime just root and possibly even use Xposed for some tweaks

The differences between the 2 are minute, hardware wise.
So any roms will most likely work for both of them.
