What is the best white balance setting? - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

Need to know what you guys think is best in terms of white balance for the screen (red, green, blue levels) and on which option, sRGB or Standard or super vivid.

Each screen have its own white balance, so no one can give you a perfect white balance for your phone, just adjust it until you like it

Android screen white balance App.

I made a screen white balance adjuster for android screens (with a few other adjustments, e.g. tint and brightness)...
Some phones are lucky enough to already have these, like the Xperia seriese, but they you have my Moto X that has a yellow tint for some reason!
If you want to give it a go, it's here.

Ha, yes, well, this app corrects it!
I have updated it to adjust the contrast as well.
I also have a Moto X and looking for a way to get rid of the yellowish tint. I tried the app but I can't find a way to make the colors colder or change the white balance. All I can do is set a tint/filter and change the strength of it. Changing color modes between tind and white balance seems to do nothing. (Version 4.0)
Is it even possible to change the yellow tint with the free version? I will not buy the paid version unless I am sure that it can do more and it's what I really need.
Also, what are the downsides and the effect on pixel longevity, battery and performance? I tried chainfire's cf.lumen (which requires root) and it has the nasty habit of applying its filters twice when switching between portrait and landscape. I guess your app does also just overlay a transparent, tinted image over the whole screen?
I really don't want to get used to a new calibration and then find out that I have to switch back to the old one because of a drawback.
my N6 has yellow tint too...but only on the bottom part...how can i adjust only the bottom part ?is there any possible way to do it ?if i adjust my whole screen with your app there will be a difference between top and bottom ..i have this stupid yellow tint on white and grey background..on grey it is soooooooooooo bad

Are your whites on the yellow side and warm?

Overall my device is good not much decolouration. But I've noticed what's are very yellow and warm. Want to know if it's a general thing or I have a device that has a much yellower screen than it should be
Look into the display settings, screen mode
Yup on cinema. Basic and photo are even more yellow
+1. I'm used to the whites being more on the cool blue side on amoled screens.
Check the reviews (say Displaymate), you will see that the whites are more neutral around 6400K. Since mostly displays available now have a more cooler white balance, S6 will appear warmer in comparison. Adaptive Display mode should give a more cooler, but technically less correct white balance.
Good to know

Reading mode ISN'T GOOD at blocking blue light, a small research vs. Night light

I have been always using Night light before going to bed which makes the screen warmer. This is good for you before going to sleep, as blue light will disturb you. If you are new to this, search this topic up in the Internet.
So, recently I thought about using Reading mode (which converts the screen to greyscale) for night and what I found in the Internet is that this mode as well as Night light helps to fall asleep. However I was confused, as greyscale includes just shades of black and white, whereas white is the mix of red, green and BLUE. I conducted a little research using my phones and a macro lens.
I wanted to find out which colours are really being displayed when using Night light/Reading mode. I shot some macro photos of the OLED screen (OnePlus 7 Pro) and I did one shot of the LCD screen (Xperia S). Here are the results:

Night light:
#1 As you can see, on the first photo not only are red pixels involved in Night light but also the blue light is reduced.
#2 On the second image the difference is more subtle when the change concerns white light, however when taken as one the difference is noticable.
#3 On the third image there is the same story. The bluish colour is now dimmed and some more red is involved.
#4 Here I was viewing blue and red colour. After enabling Night light the blue colour dimished strongly and the red was even more punchy.
#5 This one is taken on the LCD screen - the same trend applies.
Reading mode:
#6 Here I was displaying pure red. After applying the filter, the screen turned into some shade of gray, which is the combination of red, green and blue. Thus, blue pixels got involved here.
#7 This is again a mix of red and blue. After using the filter, they turned to different shades of grey. So on the blue side the red pixels turned on, and on the red side the blue pixels turned on.
According to this, my guess is that Reading mode doesn't really help much when going to bed, as blue pixels are still turned on when viewing any colour (apart from black on OLED screens). What are your thoughts? Am I right or do I miss something?

Question Any way to tweak the color temperature/RGB levels on these things?

I got the 2021 oled version. Screen is crisp, but I'm used to the vibrant greens and reds of Samsung AMOLEDs with blue light filters on... this thing seems to be red and especially blue-heavy, with pretty weak greens.
Can this be tweaked?
You can make some changes to the color settings-≥ display -≥ color mode

Question Screen temperature adjustment

I've seen a few threads here about changing the screen color but they seem to just be about boosting saturation. Is there a way to make the screen less yellow? I have root so there might be a few more possibilities.
Hi!
I might ask a stupid question, but do you have nightlight always on?
Because if this is off, the display does not look yellow .
(Settings - Display - Nightlight)
I find in my case that the whites on my screen change hue depending on the picture I choose for my home page. The one I am currently using makes the whites appear more yellow while another one I like to use makes them look pure white. Try to change images on your home page and check your whites after each change to see.
Can't say I've ever noticed a yellow tint on whites with my screen.
Quick tip on adjusting screen saturation on rooted pixel
I always found stock pixel color saturation to be a bit washed out. I prefer the look of more saturated color palette. Even choosing "adaptive" color on display options is still not good enough for me. If you're rooted and want to increase...

He doesn't want to boost saturation. Just tweak white balance.
I'm using Color Changer Pro, mostly to adjust saturation, but also to balance whites. Without it the tint on my screen is pale yellowish

Yes, with the app cf.lumen you can really adjust the RGB value (I suggest lower green by -8-15%).
More details here.
