I just bought an honor 8 and I read somewhere that it now will no longer be receiving any further updates and no upgrade to Oreo. Is this by chance 100 percent correct? Amy info on this would be greatly appreciated. If it will not be receiving any further updates from Honor then I may return it. I just am not sure what's true on this. Thanks for the help on this.
This is not true. Huawei has not officially confirmed or refuted anything. But I would personally prefer Honor 9 at this time, the price is not so much higher than Honor 8.
Yeah but I personally don't think we will ever see the Honor 9 in the US. My prediction is that we will get the Honor 8 Pro here in December before Christmas. Just a gut feeling as the Honor 8 name is already so widely known here that it just makes sense that they will feed off the Honor 8 name and release the pro model of next here. I just wonder about the current honor 8 and if it will in fact get more updates.
It Will receive further updates

That's good to know. How do you know this for sure though. It's that a definite? There is another thread that talks about the honor will now no longer be receiving updates. Was curious how you knew for sure?
Atm i'm running the B394 rom and on Firmware finder there are already B350, B351 and B135 Roma (all beta) so an update is coming soon.

That's really good to hear. I'm glad to know that. I thought it was the end for the honor 8 to be honest.
Seems like after doing a lot of research on various forums the majority of people say the honor 8 will definitely keep receiving updates for a while to come. That's a very good thing bc I just bought my third honor 8 and this time I plan to keep it long term. I typically go through a lot of phones testing out new gear. I finally decided that the honor 8 is my all time favorite phone which I do not consider EMUI to be Android at all. In fact it's nothing like Android. It's so unique and different I've said many times in the past that EMUI could easily be branded and marketed as a third major mobile software choice in the industry. I believe since they could not be connected to IOS they were forced to be thrown in with Android but it's nothing remotely like pure android at all or what so ever. In fact I find EMUI to be as smooth interface wise as apple IOS where most Android interface with skins are rather choppy and sticky. Not EMUI as it's butter smooth and very fluid. Huawei Honor has definitely created a unique hybrid software that it cannot be compared to anything at all. It's in a league of its own and as soon as they officially entered the US market full blown watch how fast they over take Samsung for the top spot. The interface of the software is a joy to use. Zero lag at all. It's as fluid as IOS so there is no doubt it will fast become the most popular in the Android world if they don't decide to Branch out and brand their own software to be labeled as the third major software choice within the mobile industry. I can't wait until they enter the US market and I believe within two to three years they will be equal too or above Samsung for the top spot world wide. It'll be interesting to watch take place. As long as they stay true to their core roots in terms of pricing with high end budget phones such as the honor 8 and leave the Huawei side as their premium flagship phones there is no way they won't over take Samsung. Huawei honor is deep with their variety of offerings with the likes for example the honor 8 which is a very affordable phone but it indeed has flagship specs and a awesome camera. I hope their next US release for honor is the honor 8 pro. It has a 5.7 inch display and would be a great media phone for movies and YouTube and such. I'd love to have one to rotate out with my honor 8. The reason I believe the honor 8 pro will be their next US honor release is bc the honor 8 is already widely known in the US so it makes sense for them to keep feeding off the honor 8 name and release the pro model next.
Why will Honor 8 not get the Oreo update? It's last year Honor's flagship, every flagship gain two next androids versions at least...
Just what I had been reading on other forums and here lead me to that. I now think it will. I excited to know this now.
I don't know if we will get Oreo. However, in regards to general updates, my FRD-L14 just received the B389 update today. I think it mainly just updates security to the Oct 5th patch, at least it is an update.

I sure hope we get Oreo. Technically we should and I really think it would be a bad business decision on Huawei honors part not to give the honor 8 oreo due to how close it is before they enter the US market full blown and officially. They don't want to enter this market on a bad note. Plus this is honors flagship phone for the US. They would loose a ton of US customer support if they choose not to update this phone to Oreo. They didn't climb up to number two in the world based off of bad decisions for their customers so I think we will get it but it will be very late to the party getting it.

Heh.
I'm November!
Me too November.
There is no update so far. They told on Twitter, at least one guy from HTC, that they like to bundle updates to a bigger maintenance update. It was a response to the claim that the HTC U11 would be abandon ware, but so far I never heard again of any announcement of an update.
HTC U Ultra - 1 February 2018
HTC U11 - 1 November 2017
Where is the problem, other brands have a security update on 1 June 2018 ?
Supports blizzards ...
1st November 2017.
I have a dream of atleast one update before 1st November 2018.

Let me complete that list:
Htc10 - April 2018
Since HTC moved(sold) almost all devs to Google what do you expect? I've sold my U11 and will never go back to them. It's a shame as HTC used to be the most fluid and stable Android experience. Well, not anymore.
The HTC U11 has Android 8.0.0, just lacking security updates, so I do not see why the HTC U11 sells, it does not have a logic. The HTC U11 is still a very good phone.

Sucks but I just do not see the value in personally dumping more money into a company that may not be in the NA market come say 2020 or even 2019. Even with the cash infusion from Google the company's financial health is poor and it does not help that reviewers for the HTC U12+ have given the phone lukewarm reviews.

I agree. HTC make very good phones in my opinion. It is not just about that is it though? We've all see the stories about getting screen replacements (costs, time involved) and if they are not making any effort to keep their phones updated with the latest security updates then people are just going to buy something else.
As much as I like my U11 I do not think I'll be buying another HTC phone because the after-sales service is literally non-existant, and if I ever do have a problem with my phone I do not want to be jumping through hoops to get it resolved.

I sent my phone for repair in January for Bluetooth issues, they blamed me for cracked screen and glass back. I refused to pay and 6 months later they offered me a brand new one. I don't want to go through that again.
Personally I had this sort of issue before with HTC and I bought the U11 which proves HTC still fail at delivering timely updates to their phones.
Mine is on 1, December, 2017

I had high hopes for the U11 and the updates were so slow.. so I have sold in october 2017... sorry HTC, you lost me.
phone was great though....
I have written to support that if it's not a month's new security update, I'm leaving HTC.
Updated to 2.42 today and Android P should be coming out sometimes this month for U11 users.

Begin to update the pacht in europa ferme in November 2017.ianto:: rolleyes:
With this finally being released, do you think we'll get the update on our devices or will we be stuck on Oreo
Sometime next year maybe.
Of course the P20 Pro will get Android 9. It would be a huge embarrassment for Huawei if it didn’t. I‘m pretty confident it will happen, maybe even in late 2018. I‘m secretly also hoping for Android 10.
I hope it does, but with how Huawei updates phones I have feeling we may not see it anytime within the next 6 - 12 months. Look at the mate 10 Pro, still no Oreo 8.1 and how long as that been out.

When I spoke to an Huawei rep they said we're guaranteed one major update so technically yes, we will get Android 9.
I got Oreo on my mate 9 one year later in dec 2017. So I presume we will get pie by April 2018.
This is their reply (UK) when asked about if for P20 Pro and Mate 10 Pro
I have verified and currently we do not have information if the two devices you mentioned will receive the Android P update

I love the P20 pro but i can't go with Huawei ever again they're just like motorola with updates its always "if or when" they decide, i can't see why they don't let us get it via a beta programme or something.
They have beta programs in China. Club.Huawei is quite an active user base and new features get tested by the members' beta program. Unfortunately, non-chinese Huawei-IDs can not enter the beta.
Here is the thread (attn: chinese obviously): https://club.huawei.com/thread-16854269-1-1.html
We'll get it by Q4 of 2018.
I have my p20 pro for three months and I have got 3 updates. One every month. 128 the day I opened it, 131 the next month and now 152. What delays?? What more to ask.??

Well,
If you didnt count a major update (like oreo to pie), i alreary update my P20 pro 7 times,
From initial .103 to .152 now. With august security update. So i guess, there's no delay in that regards.
Huawei is absolute crap when it comes to Android upgrades, even for their latest and greatest phone.
Genuinely don't expect to see anything until early to mid 2019. Just pray for ROM development is all.

But a lot of users in UK who have received the C782 model aren't getting these updates and thus reason why they are not happy about the update process. It's luck if you got the C432 model and Huawei won't advise which resellers are selling them.
Lucky we've just received update with July security fixes, prior to that we got one last month with June's update and the update before that was the update that included April's security fixes.
They should have just released one version of the phone for all markets so everyone got same updates.

I doubt their priority for updates are top of their list.. they rather pump out new phones... thats why I would never use another samsung phone... Huawei looks a little better.. updates every 2 month.. haha samsung was like 3-4 months.. almost 8months for 8.0 to come out for the S7

The Mate 10 Pro is still on 8.0 and it was released November last year and is classed as flagship device, yet only had 2 updates this year which included March and June Security updates.
So probably won't get 8.1 until earliest November and 9 sometime next year.
As for P20 Pro with the new Mate 20 imminent then we won't see an update on the device until after that is released and probably not till next year.

How long will it get updates? And wich versions - Just the normal 2 years (Android 11 and 12)?
Is Asus slow or fast for the security patches?
Thank you.
ASUS has been awful regarding updates. People complained an awful lot regarding their ROG and Zenfone 6 updates. You can just check the ASUS forums. It paints a grim picture.
This is why I hesitate so much. So much money and no support. Kind of a hard purchase.

This is quite inspiring!
Even if Asus was quite quick with android 10 and started beta for 11... Zenfone 6 won't have android 12. And, zenfone 7, will just have 1 full year of support (android 11 already available frome google).
when samsung, Oneplus et even Poco announce 3 years of support, it's quite sad from asus.
September security patch showed up on the Zenfone 6 this morning.
I'm really looking forward to picking up the 7 Pro myself, and from everything I've seen on here and on Reddit, it seems like Asus has been really good with the updates on the ZF6 so far. Also don't see it mentioned anywhere that there will only be 1 year of supported updates.
Given their lightweight skin and fast updates, I think the support should be decent.
It should be ok as the ZF6 had Android 9 out of the box, got Android 10 at the end of last year & has 11 coming at some stage either at the end of the year or early next year. I doubt it will get 12 tbh but you never know.

It will only have 1 year, you'll see. 2 major updates.
Android 11 already out, but zenfone 7 come with 10, so 11 et 12 = 2 major updates but 1 year.
The update is not slow, however the update barely give you any new features except security updates. That means the features you have in the beginning is what you have in the end.
So far so good. They've released a few incremental updates fixing things which is inspiring. Hopefully they keep up with that.
Given that two out of the last three updates arrived late, we’re not too surprised that Android 13 QPR3 with the June 2023 security patch and the next Pixel Feature Drop is not yet out.
Historically, Google releases Pixel security patches on the first Monday of the month at 10 a.m. In March, Android 13 QPR2 rolled out a week late, while the Verizon variant for the Pixel 6 and 6a series took another seven days. Despite being a more minor update, the same thing happened in April. Things went back to normal last month, but the delay has now returned.
As of 10:30 a.m. (PT), the stable release of Android 13 QPR3 has not been announced. We do, however, have the Android Security Bulletin—June 2023. There are 23 security issues resolved in the Android 13 June patch dated 2023-06-01 and 34 for 2023-06-05. Google warns that:
There are indications that CVE-2022-22706 may be under limited, targeted exploitation.
Click to collapse
The vulnerability relates to ARM Mali GPUs and has a “high” severity.
It comes as the Android 13 QPR3 Beta Program was quite sporadic. Beta 1 arrived in mid-March and Beta 2 went out after only two weeks compared to the usual month-long wait. Beta 3 followed three weeks later with Beta 3.2 being the last release in mid-May.
Android 14 might have played a role given the close release cadence, while another factor might be how the Pixel Tablet and Fold are launching with Android 13 QPR3.
Can't say I'm surprised.

They are waiting for Apple to allow them to release.
Feature drop?
Latest March feature drop brought to pixel 7 devices stunning new features.
This...
"March Feature Drop
On the Pixel 7 series, two eSIMs can be used for Dual SIM Dual Standby, and there’s also support for T-Mobile 3CA, as well as 5G for the Pixel 6a and 7/Pro in India."
And as I remember, also this small change: "Google has also replaced the battery percentage in Quick Settings with a remaining day/hour or “Until hh:mm” estimate."
Wow, I was speechless with the big amazing list of new features dropped to our Pixel 7 devices.
Now, 3 month later, new Pixel devices feature drop, and looking to latest betas, I'm able to say, Google should do a small change, and change the name from Feature Drop to Drop Feature, because, one of the new feature that arrived in March, maybe will be removed, because it was already removed on beta.
The return of the battery percentage in quick settings.
Let's see what Google bring to us!
