Excessive drain for Voice calls - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Battery drain for voice calls is very high. This doesn't seem to be normal. Is anyone one else having similar problem? Battery life seems to be getting worse with every day. 4 and a half hours and have lost 35 percent already with just one hour SOT.

Voice calls using excessive battery power

I am at 30% battery. I have made 4 minutes of voice calls today. The settings app shows voice calls taking 10% battery. Is this normal? Is the settings app battery use pane accurate?
I agree. I made four calls totaling 25 minutesone after the other. I went from a full charge to 80%. That's only 2 1/2 hours talk time.

I talked for 90 mins straight and my battery went from 98 to 72.
Some ppl have been saying the issue is with manufacture date but mine is from july 5th so dont think thats the issue. I did notice battery life get better after one week of usage.
Not sure if this is your issue, but the weaker your signal strength is the more battery you will use talking.
Both the signal strength and how you have been charging your phone will impact battery life.
If you have not been allowing your phone to reach near zero percent left and you charge it...or if you leave it plugged in unnecessarily then the battery hasn't had a chance to know what a full charge is.
And as discussed in other posts...the weaker the signal...the quicker the battery will drain.
Just some ideas.....

I have completely drained the battery 3 times and charged it to full. That should be enough to break in a lithium ion battery. I don't get great signal here. I get two to three bars. That isn't a good excuse for the battery drain I'm experiencing though. No other smart phone I have owned has used this much battery power for voice calls.
It seems like everything I do causes the battery to drain excessively. Just posting on her I lose 3to4%

I was draining my battery last night, so when the battery hit 5% I made a call to my wife's phone and set it down.. 25minutes later the phone finally died.. So needless to say, going by that time alone that is pretty good talk time... I was also trying to speed up the battery drain and doing some web browsing and market browsing as well..

She talked to herself for 25 minutes? Sounds about right.

crazy cell standby powerdrain!

Hi there. just noticed that my u11 had 16% power, even though I haven't used it that much today. Cell standby has taken 30% off ny power?! I have a perfect signal at all times. Does anyone knoe if this is a bug or if its a fix? my screen on time today has only been 3 hours.

I feel it is there simply because nothing else in terms of the OS is using battery life.
My cell standby drain was 40% the other day. Didn't stop me getting 6.5 hours SOT with 35 hours uptime using 4g

hm... okey, thanks. Do you experience some (almost) overheating during gaming?

hi, i have the same problem. 7 days ago I replaced the battery at my u11 because it didn't last that long, but the anomaly remained. there is always a high consumption of the mobile network standby item and I can't make more than 3 hours of screen on.

Cell Standby Battery Drain

Hi,
I have 4 - 5 LTE signal. When I sleep, cell standby drained the battery.
On Battery: 16 hours with Wifi.
Cell Standby %21,6 - I don't know why.
Phone idle should be drain more than cell standby. Am I wrong? Is it bug? Has anyone faced this issue?
This happens to me only when connected to wifi. Doesn't matter to me, as the total battery life still exceeds a day with 5-6 hours SoT.

Perhaps it is a bug. I was just wondering "Am I the only one facing this issue?" Thanks for answer.:good:
A lot of users have complains about this.

First 10% drains faster than the rest

Strange observation, but one I noticed on my Pixel 2XL before as well. My 3a seems to drain faster down to say 88-89% from 100 than it does for the rest of the charge. I get about 40 minutes of SOT from the first 10-12%, which isn't great. But then overall I still average 7 hours of SOT over a full charge.
Anyone else noticed this?
Also, does adaptive battery reduce or increase battery? I've had it on since I got the phone, just turned it off to see if it makes any noticeable difference.

Yes, it does and gets better with time. It takes a month or more (depending on your number of apps) to learn how often you use your apps and limit apps you don't use often.
Run a battery benchmark that drains the battery and observe the battery percentage during the process. It should be linear.
If it's not, then the most logical explanation is that the battery is not properly calibrated.

And to calibrate - drain to 0%, then charge to 100%, drain to 0% again and then back up to 100%?

Yes i have same issue, but now I'm used to it i guess it is a similar reason why iOS lasts so longer in range of 100-80 and then starts dropping faster i.e company wants user to feel like battery is lasting longer(iOS) and on pixel the battery stays longer in 80-30 region. Not sure about it just my theory about weird optimization by companies.

Battery drain

Been using the phone for a few weeks now and getting reasonable battery life on default settings. Probably over 6 hours sot (i don't game). However, during the night-time with wifi and cell internet off, it's draining at 1% or over per hours. A little concerning, as my 6T was probably half that. Has anyone tweaked any settings or used another kernel (I'm on global build) to achieve a better standby battery life?
Thanks.
Edit: looks like it's back to about 0.3%/hr idle drain now, so appears to be fixed.
