Moving to probably Samsung, how it is with Knox and Bootloader? - General Questions and Answers

Im currently using HTC U11 but after years of loving HTC im bored of its customer support, and mainly software support - still rocking November security patch yay!
So only ones i would buy from is One Plus(for its community development), Sony (idk, PS4 and TV are Sony) or Samsung(I admit, I hated Samsung till S8, you know..Touchwiz, but after many good talks about S8 i changed my mind)
So now i have 2 options, switch directly to S9+ coming from U11, which probably doesnt seemt to be much of a upgrade, or wait for S10, as I heard about Sammys 2-year cycle.
But one thing is bothering me, I heard a lot about Knox and its tampering, how does it work? Is it something like Xperias (where you lose some code from camera api)?
Additional Q: How is Sammy about OS updates? Do new features come on normal basis by updates or lets say no new feature for whole life-cycle?

Your Next Choice of New Phone?

What would be your next choice of new phone? I like everything Samsung offered for the S5 but the lack of openness caused the difficulty of customization/development.
Since there is still one year away for my 2-year contract to be ended, I included the possible future models. What would be your choice of next new phone based on hardware, software, and easy for customization?
Thank you for your participation!

I agree 100% RE: openness. If I could vote twice it would be for M9, then Z3

Should I have a pixel for Android development?

I'm looking at getting a new phone pretty soon here, my current one is an iPhone 5s and I'm not excited about it. Before that I had a Galaxy S6 Active that I really liked until it soft-bricked itself. I have some experience with Android development in Java and Xamarin. When I get a new Android phone, I want to get back into development as I really enjoyed it. Using an emulator just wasn't the same for me as I couldn't show off what I made whenever I want and what not.
Recently I've been paying attention to the newer Android releases and the LG V30 looks pretty attractive. I like pretty much everything it has to offer, I just hope it will get updates fairly quickly and for a while.
But then I realized that there might be an advantage to getting a Pixel. I would likely be getting the Pixel XL 2 if I were to go the Pixel route. I like most of what I've heard about it but it just doesn't quite beat out the V30 for me.
So, here's my question: Does the up-to-dateness of my personal phone matter much if I plan on pursuing Android development? Is it something that may be better to pursue once I have a certain amount of skill first? Hardware aside, is an Android One phone the same as a Pixel?
Thanks, ZachZ

Update Schedules

This forum is far too quiet, need to get things going on here Previius phone was a nexus 5x and what an active forum community. Anyway. when I gave up the nexus 5x i was running 8.1 beta, so does anyone know what the plan is for the u11 life update schedules? After all this is a 'google' phone
Haha what a funny post from you. First thing, this device is on the market for just two months now and you cant expect much in that short time. Second, you have only 74 posts overall so that hugh present in 5x forum was nothing from you. Dont you think that is very arrogant to ask for more here if you dont do it by yourself? Third, there is already a lot of development going on for a brand new device which is NO Flagship device, some of it is already published and others will come. Fourth HTC provides monthly security updates and a nearly pure Android for this device, what do you want more? You can root it you can already use magisk and xposed (even if there are not many xposed modules for oreo jet but thats not device related). If you want to know when Updates will be there, ask HTC on Twitter they usually answer quick.
Arrogant because I suggested that it was quiet here ? Strange !!!
Dont want to turn this into a scrap so will wait what others have to say

New phone

Well it's time for a new phone, wife wants one and as much as I love my current phone I want something with more developer support. While I do appreciate all the work the few people have been doing for the lg stylo 3 plus, I just eant something that will have more people working on custom roms and stuff. My wife just has a crappy 50 dollar phone and I have, as stated, the lg stylo 3 plus. We are on the Metro network so as you all know as long as the phones unlocked I can use it with Metro sim card.
So after that spew of crap, what phones does everyone recommend? I'm in no rush so if there is a newer phone coming out later this year feel free to recommend it as I would like to grab a newer model, but I'm open to all suggestions. The wifes not much of a tinkerer, but I'll change my rom 3 times a day, so the more support on here the phone has the better.

Bezel less recommendations?

Hello All,
Im looking to get a new phone and seems alot of the chinese makers are stepping up there game. I currently have the iPhone 6s+ and like the look of the new iPhone X but not gonna spend that kind of money. So Ive been looking around for a good bezel less android based phone. I really like the Elephone U Pro but im from the states and it doesnt support alot of the bands here. It will mainly need to work for ATT/Cricket. I like the Xiamoi Mi Mix 2 but wanted to see what other options are out there also. Any recommendations on some phones that will compete if not beat current flagship phones that are way overpriced? Thanks!
