You'll never get any good shots with the stupid potato camera on what otherwise is a great device. But if you insist, then go with OmniROM. The last build is five months old now, but it's the most recent rom with ColorOS blobs, which are considered to be the best.

I know. But if he cares so much about the camera, then why not go back to Nougat? Also, no Oreo roms have ColorOS blobs yet. The best we have for Oreo is Sultan.

If you think he care about camera why you dont suggest Marshmallow such as darkobas or jgcaap cm13. Best camera and battery compare to laggy Omni 7.1.2. Also oppo camera plugin work great on 6.0.1

Dirty Unicorns with Thunder kernel absolutely. Amazing smoothness and battery life, the kernel also supports any kind of customisation so you can fine tune it to your liking. I tried a lot of Oreo ROM and definitely recommend DU + Thunder kernel. You can find everything you need on Dirty Bacon Telegram group, ask me in PM if you need the invitation link.

I've been reluctant to try out Oreo on the OnePlus One due to stability concerns, but I saw this reply and I love Dirty Unicorns roms, so may I ask how is the stability? Does everything work?
Also, what is your screen on time?

Hi everyone!
i also prefer roms with ColorOs blobs because of the long exposition, does anyone know of a way to avoid the upside/down videos recorded on roms with ColorOS blobs, fv-5 camera has a setting to "invert" on photos but i've been unable to find a setting on its "sister" app "cinema fv-5", has anyone managed to solve this issue?
Is it possible to have ColorOS blobs on sultan's lineageOS 14? if yes, which version of lightning kernel should i install? i know i could use darkobas or jgcaap roms but on those roms the playstore wont let me install some apps like gps or photo/video apps, i could use something like aptoide etc but i would prefer not to.
For me the best roms are the "sultanized" roms for video recording, for photos i recomend the ones with coloros blobs

There are no major bugs, everything works or, at least, everything I tried (WiFi, mobile data, Bluetooth, microphone, camera, GPS, hotspot, you know, basic stuff). About stability I can tell you that I had some freezes and app crashing now and then but my OPO was undervolted so it's almost certain that the problems came from that (I gave up undervolting today so I can update you about stability in a few days). My SOT is actually insane given that my battery is at 80% of its original capacity: more than 4 hours on 3G with really bad reception and screen brightness <50%. Mind that as I said in my first answer I'm not using ROM's built in kernel but Thunder kernel (from the same developer) and I achieved that SOT using battery saving profile set in Spectrum (no lags or bad performance in everyday use anyway) + Greenify + Amplify (both in free version).

I'm glad to say that After updating for the new build omni rom (12.08.2018) getting more battery efficiency and stable.

Best ROM for OPO - camera is a priority

Hello, As stated in the topic, looking for a good and stable ROM. Version doesn't matter - camera is a priority.; also I hate lagging and so may want to avoid Android 7. Will the official build (Oxygen OS) be the best?
If another ROM like Lineage is good, what would be a good and stable kernel?

Camera wise, the difference is unnoticeable.
Slim7, plain and simple. Doze works well. No lag.
Candy7, just like slim7 but with more customization.
Carbon, overall fantastic. No lag. Good battery. Weekly updates.

I forgot to mention legend ROM
If you want the best camera and stability sure goes to jgcarp cm13 its literally the best rom with colour os camera and performance also are good highly recommended
Camera is a priority. Well, Sultan's Lineage 14.1 build is the only valid answer. ColorOS camera blobs and some other optimizations. Front camera full hd recording, very fast autofocus, high framerate video recording etc.
Also you are getting fresh Nougat rom, not old Android 6.0. Strongly recommended.
Thank you all. I have installed the Sultan's unofficial Lineage OS. I haven't installed the Google Apps yet, and so far the system is fast. Not sure I need Google Apps, as this phone is intended to be used as a media consumption device + camera.
EDIT: Probably YouTube would be required on the device, hence Playstore and Services would need to be installed. Let's see how much it impacts the performance.
best camera you can get is from cm13 jgcapp recomended build is 15th October build

Sultans rom doesnt have color os blobs mate it uses its own which to be fair is much better than the standard cm blobs, i find color os to be the best though ! I'm personally on aospextended sultanized because its PERFECT and on linage, however if you dont mind what android your running i suggest jgcaaps cm13, i lasted nearly a year with it !

Afaik unmodified color os blobs don't allow 4k recording.
Thanks all, yeah Android version is not very important for this device. Is jgcaaps cm13 / color OS better in the camera department than Sultan's? And I don't use 4K video recording - files are too big and storage space is limited. Videos are mostly 1080p and sometimes 1440p.

Nougat roms do not support color os camera plugins ( 50mpx eg.) .
I also use a lot the camera. My sweet spot is marshmallow resurrection remix with color os camera, since it allows me to shoot long exposure , raw , 50mpx.

About camera quality is only a question of different opinion. I'm my opinion, is the best camera from nougat ROMs.
See SS about plugins working on onmirom
About performance, you just have to change CPU governor (interactive for example) because default governor doesn't give the best user experience.

[ROM] [UNOFFICIAL] [7.1.x] Resurrection Remix for the Shield Tablet

Hello everyone,
With LineageOS 14 finally going stable (or at least official) on the Shield Tablet, I decided to compile Resurrection Remix for it. It's my favorite ROM, not having it on my Tablet has been frustrating me for months now. So after compiling, why not share it?
I'll will make a normal full featured thread when I have the time, for now this is it. Might be in a DevDB form.
Download from AFH
Gapps: Opengapps.org
Root: (Since 4 februari build, disabled by default). I do recommend flashing any root solution, since some RR features require root, but the build in solution will be out of date much too fast.
Also, this new build most likely wouldn't have happen in 2017 without the help of the great @Gibbothegreat, thumbs up to him.

Hmm...
It looks like "everything works fine". Gps, cameras...
Flashed with aroma gapps(upside down - I think bug from twrp).
Colour calibration, temperature, hue, contrast are a little different than 2 hours ago.
I've been looking for a month the good custom rom.
Keep it up!
Maybe you can add colour calibration to the kernel?

So far, it's running perfect. Sometimes the memory management glitches are noticeable, but not breaking functionality.

Thanks for your input. I'm using lineageos as base, so kernel is the same as LOS. In the future distant I'm not going to add anything to the kernel.
First releases will be update-only, later I will try to fix soms bugs and after that I might try to understand the kernel a little. Maybe try the kernel by @BitOBSessiOn?
This btw also means that the RR optimisations are less battery friendly then LOS itself.
Second, a question. What do you mean by colour calibration? Is that a stock RR feature that's not supported by the kernel? Or is it done by an externel app and you just want kernel support? Anyway I will look it into it .
Stock MM/N have some colour settings in system.
Stock & BitO kernels hasn't any kcal inbuilt.
On my phones I'm using RR & other kernels with kcal added.
I can set f.e. DeepReach as here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/general/kernel-adiutor-kcal-color-profiles-t3382086
Thanks. @nathan-96
Totally happy with this ROM on my Shield. No problems. Just youtube is pixelated and green on occasion. A few restarts/random reboots and occasionally X has stopped Y has stopped. Great battery life!
Thanks for new build. I have to reflash stock 5.2(or blob only) and will try tomorrow.

Hey, using this rom for about a day on single sim It's near perfect !
Everything I want to use works.
Battery life is miles better than your LOS builds from what I experienced so far. Used it for work all day with Waze and Spotify streaming to a speaker, and still have 40% left.
So far so good! Keep up the good work.

Hiya,
thank you for your reply. the pictures in this example is a controlled environment, and at close range, and in artificial light conditions.
I used the Mokee rom some time ago and thought that its camera was quite good. but in more testing i found the post processing on the stock images to come out clearer.
I use my camera in alot of different settings espcially in Dark or night time environments, or very sunny days. and i've noticed that the mokee camera (being based of LOS) had more rough artifacts at higher megapixles.
I'll give this rom a test run in a couple of days when I have time to flash.

The OREO rom you prefer and why

with the recent new Oreo roms i am finally thinking of changing to Oreo build roms but i cant make up my mind and i dont have the time to test all of them intensively as i take very long to have my setup in new OS and it would be very helpful to know opinions from you guys
what i am looking for is a rom with regular updates, good camera and stable performance
A lot of them are quite good. At this point, I just want one which will provide me with a stable experience that will keep my device up to date with security patches. Therefore, I am waiting for official lineage but in the meantime I'll stay on RR which is quite good.

With WiFi but without it, there appears to be quite a lot of drain, for me.
Many of the rom are similar, i liked aopsextended the most. But there are common problems to all 1. Receiving call with dialer button swipee is too difficult 2. Delay in connection with hidden network. 3. Problem with using share it or any apps using wifi 4. Some random reboots. I found good battery life in most of them. I got back to nougat.

Is there any 8.1 rom as of yet that supports camera shutter speed ? (oxygen os blobs and oxygen os camera hal required)

You can test by using this app. If the pro mode shows up and you can set shutter speeds pls report back.

Suggestion: wich custom ROM?

I have under my hands a brand new S7... and basically after seeing 1.5GB ram is busy without having installed any app (so at the moment only deafault apps) and without having done nothing special (navigate in menu, check the camera, open some options) I started searching for decent custom ROM, preferibily 8.0 based.
So, any suggestions considering I'm searching for
- great battery management (I suppose it could be done with a custom rom)
- great camera management (eh...)
- no issues with bluetooth, GPS, wifi
- ... clearly the phone works to call in & out
Thanks for everyone can help in this hard decision
(the fact isn't I'm lazy... honestly I don't have so much time to test several roms)
THANKS
hey.
Didnt test this ROM ony my Galaxy s7, but with my Galaxy s6 and my Note i was on this ROM.
I was very happy with that.
Small, many features and i would say : easy to use.
U can give it a try, if you want...
Before : do a full System backup via TWRP and if you didnt like the ROM, u can easily Restore your old Firmware .

??
it is a beta, maybe something stable is better
Non-working/partially working features:
GPS
Wireless Display
Wi-Fi Direct
Possibly other things not listed.
I don't recommend Resurrection Remix, because it is EOL (End of Life, which means it doesn't get updated anymore)
I've used LightROM and The Galaxy Project.
I tried them both and they both were stable. I tried LightROM for a couple of weeks en currently I'm using The Galaxy Project. I've installed a lot of apps and I'm using a good amount of them each day. Never had any problems with RAM or battery with these roms.
The most stable roms are always roms that are stock-rom based.
Roms like LineageOS for example have some bugs and always will have. Last time I checked there were still some minor bluetooth calling issues, calling over loudspeaker introduces echo, volte isn't working, camera isn't as good and probably some other small things. Doesn't mean that LineageOS is a bad rom for the S7, it definitely has some advantages but if you are looking for really stable roms and you don't have a lot of time for testing and reflashing then you are safer with stock-based roms.

The galaxy project with morokernel v4.6 gave the best battery and ram management and it was a very stable rom.
Actually I'm on resurrection remix 6.2.1 the last one released in October, it has fixed a lot of bugs and it's so smooth and the battery is lasting a lot more longer than stock roms, you won't find this version on xda but on github even if he stated it was EOL but he gave it a last shot and forgot to update his thread. Good luck

It's hard to say which rom is the best, but at this moment I like The Galaxy Project the most. But this is just based on using the roms, not on stats.
Both roms run smooth and didn't give me any problems.
Flashing is for both roms are basically the same. There are some small differences but both roms describe how to do the installation. Both roms have aroma installers, so you're able to tweak your installation a little to your preferences.
The Galaxy Project offers just 1 flashable zip, which includes the rom and additional apps in 1 zip.
LightRom is split up into 2 flashable zip files, the rom itself and additional apps are separated.

Thanks again... will start with the galaxy project and maybe try flashing the morokernel v4.6 (due to the fact it seems this rom is using the TGPKernel to 6.10.5

Thanks, will try The galaxy project also with morokernel v4.6.
About the RR or other roms I'm guessing how the camera is managed... I mean if these roms are able to manage the camera better (or equal) than the stock one

The last version of RR has a good camera preinstalled, but if you install the moded Google camera with HDR+ (you can look for the thread here in xda... Gcam for s7) you'll get amazing photos waay better than Samsung stock believe me

Using TGP I used to get 4h to 5h on SOT and with RR more than 6h with same usual usage. For more better and smoother experience you should change the animation scales in developer option to x0.5 use it for 2 or 3 days and come back to say thanks

Look for RR 6.2.0 final here in s7 forum and check page 20 (the developer posted this last version in a comment instead of updating it in the thread) it was a last fix for bluetooth issues and many little bugs
