Hi, I want to know if WiFi AC (5 GHz) is working on the Huawei P20 before buying it because I had an awful experience with it on the Mi A1. Also what link speed are you getting.

It's working fine on my P20. Just the one thing I noticed is that the phone didn't see the network on first boot and it needs to refresh networks to see it sometimes. (I might try to switch channels and see if it gets better) But overall I'm running on 5GHz all the time and had no issues, it's blazing fast.

Has anyone been able to exceed wireless n speed of 65 Mbps on their Captivate?
My computer reaches speeds of 135 Mbps but with my captivate right next to the router, I don't see anything above 65 Mbps.
Edit: I'm just using the speed it tells you when you click settings->wireless and network->wifi then I just tap the SSID and look under speed.
Also I set my router to only use the 40mhz band. I just want to know if even 1 person has seen anything over 65 Mbps, so that I know whether it the phone or the router.

Dumb ? Is your computer using dual-band?
Edit: also, the Cap might be operating in 20mhz bands intead of 20/40... (nasty technical details)
How did you test this? ALso usiong no encryption helps....
Also I didn't know captivate have N band 2.4?

I am thinking the driver has some issues in general.
Random loss of connectivity and need to disable enable wireless to get connectivity back.
Slow 802.1x connection speeds (11mbps max from what I can tell)
N only connects on 2.4Ghz band and not 5Ghz.
So, yeah, my guess is driver is gimped a bit.
I have no issues with Wifi. BTW, iPhone 4 also uses only 2.4 Ghz band for "n". As I understand, 5 Ghz would require additional antenna.

Was disappointed when I saw my Captivate which is advertised as having wireless N just barely connects above wireless G speeds. Both laptops easily gets 130Mbps from the same router.
N speeds on a 20MHz band will be 65Mbs. Your laptop and desktop most likely have a 40Mhz bandwidth antennae which allow you to get up to 135Mbs. The Captivate has an antennae that will only work on the 20MHz band which is why you only see a max of 65Mbs. I remember reading about why this is and I can't find the documentation any more.
Anyway, while this does seem "barely higher than G speeds" it's actually a big difference. The wireless N standard added the function of Multiple Input and Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna's which increases the signal throughput. The wireless G standard does not have MIMO function in it. The increased speeds and the addition of MIMO antenna's makes the Captivate's N wireless much faster than a G wireless even though the Mbs are close together.

And, just to answer it in case someone is thinking it .....
Having your wireless on 5GHz vs 2.4GHz will not increase your Captivate speeds above 65Mbs. This refers to the frequency of the signal which is different from the signal bandwidth. The 5GHz range was added with wireless N to avoid interference from other 2.4 MHz devices such as wireless keyboards, wireless mice, home telephones (people still have these?), wireless gaming controllers, etc.
While 5GHz is nice, as it is a separate frequency to help avoid interference, it actually has a shorter broadcast distance since it's a higher frequency. It will also have a harder time broadcasting through walls and other solid objects since it's a higher frequency.

With some of the leaked GB 2.3.x builds, I have gotten 72 mbps when my router is set to N only mode, locked to 40 Mhz width, WMM enabled, WPA2 personal "AES only" encryption, with all options for "neighborly" radio turned off, and standing within 6ft of the router.
65 mbps was the highest I ever got on CM7 or Froyo and even the GB builds don't hold at 72 mbps for long.
My Captivate does connect to 2.4 Ghz with 40 Mhz width. 5 Ghz won't work though.
Ya my internet doesn't go over 2 mbs. 65 would be a dream.

Humm, I've never gotten anything higher than 65Mbps even on 5Ghz. However I've never tried it on 40Mhz width as I thought it wouldn't work. I'll have to test this out and see.

Try messing with the settings on your router. I spent nearly an hour one day on my wireless N router and was able to get further reception. Never messed with the speed as too its not really an issue. 65mbs is WAY more than enough for a mobile phone. But if its that important to you I think it really won't matter how much faster you make it because the speed at which the sdcard can write data can't keep up with the data speeds of a high speed home data connection of about 10-20m anyway. Already I'm able to download at about 1.2mbs on large files which is the same speed as my computer when downloading large files.
Point is... no matter what you do to increase the wifi speeds on your router or your phone won't make a difference

Computers connect to the router at 150+ so I'm pretty sure it's setup correctly.
I know it will only effect in-network activities, but I was just wondering if there was a reason I couldn't get it to go past 72.
The photon supports up to 150. You could try going into your router settings and change the rate from auto to 150 turn your wifi off then on after your router sets and see if you get the 150 connection. It may also have to do with the rom. The photon also supports 5ghz wifi connections but on cm9 we are stuck using 2.4 because the setting to change the frequency is missing

Lol oops forgot I'm on the inspire thread. I'm not sure If the inspire supports 5ghz frequencies. Go to wifi, then hit menu and go to advance settings. There might be an option to switch between the two settings. Also on your router mess with the channels. I have had better luck on 9 than 11 with getting over 72. Also make sure the channel width is 40mhz only. The 20mhz can support up to 150mps but if your phone don't need it it will not force it. The radio on nearly all smart phones are automatic which means it will do what it thinks is best for your phone. Some roms I have seen on other devices have forced settings for wifi which gives much more control over how the phone reads from the router.

It looks like a limitation of Android device since I have 2 devices max out only 72Mbps.
There are a number of limitations that stop extra fast speeds on 802.11n.
1) Antennas
1 antenna = max 150 Mbps
2) Congestion
If you are in a busy area (like suburbia, 2.4 Ghz is used by more than just WiFi too) you will not get the 40 Mhz bandwidth for 150 Mbps, it will drop back to 20 Mhz bandwidth which means 72.2 Mbps maximum.
3) Guard Interval
If the distinct transmissions between between both units are not making it through, the Guard Interval will be doubled from 400 nanoseconds to 800 nanoseconds. Maximum now possible is 65 Mbps.
Most people will never see more than 72 Mbps on one antenna.

I've noticed very poor performance when using 2.4 GHz wifi on my G3 when compared to other devices. I can have my Nexus 4 and G3 sitting right next to each other on 2.4 GHz WiFi and the G3 is consistently slower when doing a speedtest like speedtest.net or iperf. Usually the G3 gets around half the speed of the Nexus 4 or worse. On occasions i've seen the G3 start getting below 1 Mbps or nothing at all and the the only way to fix it is by putting the phone into airplane mode and taking it back off.
When the G3 is connected to 5 GHz it is pretty much on par with the Nexus 4 when doing speedtests. I've also not seen any of the strange slowdown issues that require a reboot or airplane mode toggle on/off when connected at 5GHz.
Makes me wonder if i got a defective device or if anyone else is experiencing the same issues. I'm still within my 14 day return window but i'd hate to go through the process of swapping out the device and tweaking everything back to my preferences if this is an issue that will likely be fixed with a software update.

You select the frequency when joining the network. If you have a dual band wireless router and have both frequencies broadcasting, the option to chose which band will appear when you are searching for wireless networks.

Just curious who is your ISP ? 20 mbps up is awesome and I wish I could get there lol. I run 45 ish mbps down and 4.5 megabits per second up on suddenlink cable ISP on 2.4GHz

Verizon was nice enough to recently upgrade all FiOS customers with symmetrical bandwidth. Your upload now matches your download and in my case exceeds my download for no additional charge.
Not quite as fast as Google Fiber but Verizon's highest package is now 500 down/500 up.

Is your bluetooth turned on? If so turn it off and re run Speedtest.net. I have had a few phones that do not play well with bluetooth

I still have 2.4 GHz issues with the bluetooth disabled.
Rate this thread to express how you think the Huawei Nexus 6P's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?

Works pretty good. Pick it up outside in my car from my parking spot. Not strong but still connected.

I don't know if it's my router (I just bought it 2 days before my phone came in) but my download speed is not very good. I have a 50mbps down and 25mbps up, but when I run speedtest I get anywhere from 1-30 down and always 25-30 up (normal). My upload is always fantastic, but down varies greatly. I don't know if it's the router or if it's my phone. In all situations I am less than 10 feet from my router.
Can anyone run speed test on 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands and inform me if they see odd download speeds? By odd I mean jumping up and down a lot.

Couldn't agree less, the wifi reception on this phone is worlds better than my 2014 Moto X, I'm getting 2-3x the bandwidth at the furthest distances in our house.
Substantially better range and throughput than my N6.
Find my wifi is good. No better or worse than all my other devices. Picks up where i expect it to and loose it where i expect it to. Again speed is on par with my other devices
Wifi on 6p is much better - get full 118Mbps download (cable limit) with Nexus 5 typically doing 80Mbps download at same time frame. Connected to router at 585Mbps but I have seen it a 7xxMbps rate to router but effective internet still cable limited.

I also am getting faster WiFi performance by a good amount WHEN I do .. reason saying that is that the results are very variable. I would like to attach a screen print I saved but do not see how.
Great throughout with alright range, wifi drops at less range than my Note 3 and S4. This based off two N6P, first device I returned as the auto rotation was broke.

My WiFi has been significantly better than my s4 so far with better throughput, latency, stability. My home connection is consistently above 500 Mbps.
First image 5ghz, Comcast 105-150mbps depending on time of day. Second image is 2.4ghz
WiFi is infinitely better than my previous phones, and 5ghz AC works better than on the iPhone 6s plus in the same spots. Signal strength on 5ghz AC is always 5-10db weaker than 2.4ghz. Plus, I get my full 90mbps everywhere in my house with 5ghz. 2.4 caps around 50-70 because of no free channels. Huawei did something right with the antennae, because I have no issues ever with signal/speed.
I'm getting lower pings and faster throughput on my 6P than my iMac 5K!
Of course, the position of my iMac may make a difference - but, regardless, that's bloody impressive. Huawei has always been pretty good with antenna design, and the larger size of the 6P presumably also helps?
In a test just now I got 9ms, 7.6 Mbps down, 1.1 Mbps up on my 6P (connection 526Mbps) and on my iMac 19ms, 6.8, 0.8 (connection 527Mbps*).
(* bit odd that one is 526 and the other 527 - maybe a rounding issue as I assume they're fixed increments?)
I'll second that WiFi speeds are noticeably faster than they were on my N6.
I haven't done any actual testing, but the primary thing I've noticed is that transfers to my local server are typically 20-30% faster.

On 5Ghz I got 72.2Mb down and 19.6Mb up on a 72/20 connection, so its running it flat out. This was through the speedtest.net app.
The signal on my 6p is significantly better than my Oneplus one. I tested both where wifi signal is lowest and tested both 2.4 and 5ghz bands. Pings are almost identical.

Constantly drops Wifi. Then often forgets networks and even can't see any while scanning.

I got it to work now with 5GHZ but I wonder since I get the same speed does it use a lot more battery with 5GHZ ?
I am the only one in my house that use 5ghz so it is a lot less noise, but I get the same speed with 45 Mbit on both bands, but since it is less noise on the 5ghz it might perform faster, atleast I feel web browsing goes faster unless it is just a placebo effect
