[HELP] Trying to Root Samsung Galaxy J1 mini sm-j105y - General Questions and Answers

I am trying to root my Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini and am not having any luck, here are some details from the About Device in settings:
Details: Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini SM-J105Y
Model : SM-J105Y
Android v : 5.1.1
Baseband v: J105YDVU0AQI1
Kernel v : 3.10.65-12258773

SE For Android Status: Enforcing
SEPF_SM-J105Y_5.1.1_0073
Tue Nov 28 13:49:58 2017
Security Software Version: ASKS v1.2 Release 161011
Android Secutiry patch level: 1 November 2017
I have OEM Unlock and USB debugging enabled in developer options
I tried rooting using Kingoroot on PC and Kingroot on the phone itself, both say my phone is unsupported
I have tried to root this phone using cf-root images gathered from firmware.mobi (link https://desktop.firmware.mobi/device:483/firmware:14717 ), this comes up with the error RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING before rebooting normally
I have also tried using TWRP, but all the tutorials show pressing vol+ & menu & power to access, but this does not work with my phone either (it takes ages even to power on then just sits at the RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING until I remove the battery & reboot)
Is there any way to root this model of J1 mini? I am at the end of my tether here

I remember having trouble finding out how to root my J1 Mini.
My device info differs slightly from yours (marked in red in the quote) so I can't guarantee we have the exact same phone. I suspect it's because I have a later firmware version than you (and my phone is rooted!).
Search for SM-J105: ROOT + TWRP Fácil! and you will find the video that got me rooted (sorry I can't post links).
When I initially rooted, the video description contained direct links to the needed files. The current video description links to a site where you can scroll down to "ROOT SM-J105Y" and download the files; I assume they are the same as the files I used.
I can't guarantee this will work so make sure you have a way to restore your phone in case anything goes wrong.
It might be worth looking up Magisk as this seems to be the new way to root phones however I haven't tried it.

Thanks for the info, but searching for that just showed a load of Youtube videos, most of which just show the exact same methods that don't work for me, so unless you can post a direct link then I don't even know what I should be looking for really.
And I looked up info on Magisk, but that requires TWRP to be installed, which as I noted above I just can not get to work no matter what.
I must have the only Samsung phone in the known multiverse that can't be rooted.

Enter firmware.mobi (desktop.firmware.mobi) and search for your sm-j105y. Chose the exact type of your phone's security patch, build date, etc. Configure CF-Auto-Root (better don't modify anything), generate the pack, wait for it to be ready, download start automatically, unpack it, read instructions very, very carefully and root your phone.
I did it successfully with my sm-j106h.

I've checked the files and they are the same ones I used to root my own phone.
I have since tried out magisk and it works using TWRP from the files above.
Magisk also works and seems to be a better way of rooting but I haven't managed to get xposed working with it.

@shahinul: read my first post again, I already tried firmware.mobi, I even put a link to what I downloaded there. It doesn't work.

Thanks for the link jatan. After loading the video, I thought "hey this looks familiar" and sure enough, my comment was there about it not working.
Since my last post, the new firmware update (the one that you already had, with the same info you marked in red above) came up, but would not install (it came up something about not having the right recovery image or something, and to take it to a Samsung repair centre), after trying a number of different methods, I finally went into recovery and wiped the cache which did the trick and allowed the latest official firmware to install successfully, so now I am on the same firmware you documented in your first post.
So, since I am on the same firmware as you, I thought I'd try again, but now, even using the package you linked to, when trying to install the image file, this time it won't even install, instead coming up with
SECURE CHECK FAIL : (recovery)
even though I still have OEM UNLOCK and USB DEBUGGING enabled in developer options.
That's it, I completely give up now. I honestly must have the only Samsung phone that is simply incapable of being rooted by every method known to man.
I think if I wanted to continue, it would be quicker and easier for me to do what a friend suggested and go to a pawn shop and pick up a second hand S4 or something.

omg so actually impossible to root j1105y and 106h; i find since few day and nothing twrp work and no roms custom available too

[Q] Samsung Nexus S : boot, recovery mode, download mode, root install... problems

Dear all,
I'm sorry if it is not the good place to ask help but i search a solution on forum, blog, google... and i'm blocked.
I have a samsung nexus s which coulnd't boot. It stay with "Google" on screen.
I try to find the recevory mod, in order to make a factory reboot, but the recovery mod is broken also. The little android robot is open with a red exclamation mark.
I have this information on the boot menu :
Fastboot mode
Product Name : HERRING
HW Version : REV 52
Bootloader version : I9020XXLC2
Baseband version : I9020XXKI1
Carrier Info : EUR
SERIAL number : xxxxxxx
Lock State : Locked
I try a method with ODIN, i try to root the phone, but the system is shut. ODIN failed, the root also failed even if the phone is half reconized with the kies samsung driver.
So i don't know what to do now... lose the information isn't a problem, i just want a working phone.
Someone could help me?
Thanks a lot,
pS: i'm french, sorry for my english
And i did a mistake first time, in posting in the wrong section http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078419
Download this: http://goo.gl/0K6eh then install it.
Instructions:
1. Select the CORRECT device and build (what you are currently running) <-- Select the EXACT device model. For example: i9023, i9020A, etc.
2. Configure your drivers if you haven’t already using the driver guide (If you aren’t sure use Step 3 of the driver guide to test your drivers).
3. If you need to backup your important data.
4. Unlock your device
5. Root your device
*Try out the other toolkit features by pressing the buttons, each button explains what it does first. So the best way to get familiar with the toolkit is simply to press the buttons and read what it says.

Galaxy S6 (China dual SIM SM-G9200): problems after upgrade to Android 6.0.1 Marshmal

I have updated my phone to the latest version of Android:
Galaxy S6 - China dual SIM SM-G9200
Update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
I have now many problems that I did not have before:
- QQi: QQ international does not open anymore. When I try to start it, it opens and immediately stops with the following error message: "Unfortunately, QQi has stopped".
- I can use only one of the 2 SIM cards in 4G. The other one is automatically turned off, or changed to 2G (depending on which one).
I have tried the following:
- Reboot
- Clear cache of all apps
- Reinstall QQi
- Wipe cache partition from recovery mode
Anyone knows how to fix this?
I haven't run into this problem with mine, were you able to get gapps installed after updating?
Which version of the phone do you have?
I have the Chinese version, so no gapps.
Android version: 6.0.1

Android security patch level: March 1, 2016

Mine is the same version, before 6.0.1 I was able to flash gapps via twrp but now I can't get it to work after upgrading. By the way I have a working TWRP for 6.0.1 on our device if you need it.
I have not been able to root mine (not even before the update). I would be interested also if you find a solution.
The TWRP works on a non-rooted device? I would be interested if you can let me know how to do it.

TWRP will work without root, you need to:
Download C-ROM from the Galaxy Store to unlock it from flashing custom roms
Download TWRP https://pan.baidu.com/wap/album/inf...d=3737720806726914354&third=0&adapt=pc&fr=ftw
Activate the USB debug mode on the phone
Boot into download mode (hold home button, volume down, power to start phone until blue screen shows up, then release and press the up volume button) and install TWRP with ODIN 3.10.6 or higher by opening the TWRP file from the AP button.
To boot into TWRP just turn the phone on by holding home button, volume up, and power button.
If you can read Chinese you might be able to help solve this puzzle; try searching the web for the translated equivalent of "gaps G9200 6.0.1" or "root G9200 6.0.1" etc I'm sure someone has figured it out in China already (the TWRP is obviously made specifically for this phone with a Chinese interface)
Thanks. I will have a try, but my Chinese may not be good enough.
Hey John, so I've found a forum where they've managed to root our phone on 6.0.1, but you need to be a forum member to log in, and to do that you need alipay to pay 1Y... I can't seem to sign up for an account, do you have one? here are the links:
http://www.tomatolei.com/thread-125147-1-1.html
http://www.tomatolei.com/thread-125148-1-1.html
Sorry, I also do not have an account there.
I will try to find a Chinese friend to look at it.
I've found another site that has it:
http: //pan.baidu.com/s/1bxjvZK password y3in
You have to have a baidu account to download it and I cant create one because I don't have a Chinese phone number, do you have one by chance? If you could download it and email it to me or share via dropbox I would be forever grateful!
Edit:
I was finally able to create an account (I had to do a chinese captcha using a website that lets you draw them by hand... wow it was tough). Let me know if you want the files and I'll put them on google drive. I'm rooting now to see if it works!

Edit 2:
root works, still messing with gapps (I can install it but it constantly force closes on boot)
I have tried to make a factory reset, but the same problems still occur....
I am trying your instructions for TWRP, but I am a bit lost. How to "Download C-ROM from the Galaxy Store"?
I have tried to type crom or c-rom in "Galaxy Apps", but it gives only games.

It should be in there unless they removed it, when I got mine I got it off of the Galaxy App store
Hi Dears
I faced same problem as below :
QQi: QQ international does not open anymore. When I try to start it, it opens and immediately stops with the following error message: "Unfortunately, QQi has stopped".
Would you please support me how to solve it ?
TKS.
The only way around at the moment is to install the Chinese QQ.
It is in Chinese, and has many painful additional features though....
So let's hope they release a fix soon.

[Completed] HELP! status 7 on possibly unrooted, factory resetted moto g 2014

Hi all,
I tried to update my Motorola Moto G 2014, but it showed status 7 error. So I contacted Motorola and they said that I rooted my phone. So I connected my phone to my PC and found supersu246.apk. I never installed this, but I guessed somehow some app rooted my phone once. I began thinking and suspected it was when I was desperate to recover my lost photos and downloaded all sorts of programs (possibly Dr. Phone).
So: I deleted supersu246.apk from my internalized SD card and factory resetted my phone. Status 7 still pops up. How do I fix this? I do not want to have a rooted phone btw.
Should I follow the instructions in this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/official-firmware-titan-xt1068-t3312933 or not?
And specifically the Easy installer attached in the first post at the bottom: it says: 'easy installer.zip to flash your firmware in one click. This also has an option lock or unlock bootloader and warning logo fix.'

Root method request

Can someone PLEASE give me a rooting method for my J720F. I have tried everything from rooting apps to pc rooting but nothing works. There is no custom recovery for this model either. I dont care about knox but give me a rooting method. (It would be amazing if you still got a method to keep the knox tho)
I too have tried every option on a Galaxy J7 Model number J727U Android version 7.0 Android security patch level June 1, 2018 Baseband version J727UUES3ARF1 Kernal version 3.18.14-13002482 Build number NRD90M J727UUES3ARF1 Security Software Version ASKS v1.4 r Release 180122 Knox version 2.8. There is not any program available, free or for purchase to root the phone; that includes Dr Phone which borderlines being a joke, and talking with the authorized Samsung repair shop whom are on the same level as outsourced call centers. In addition, the "How to Uninstall Carrier/OEM Bloatware Without Root Access" article by Doug Lynch", which actually worked on some files, is no longer an option as of today 8/13/2018. Although Samsung published a statement saying Knox would not be installed in new products as it was being replaced by the security folder (which can be removed), they lied. If I could return the phone to Microcenter for a refund I would, and just wait to bite the bullet for the $600 Librem 5 to be released in 2019. However, I have learned a few things since diving into smartphones. 1st, Google is NOT your friend, and 2nd, Samsung is as bad and in many cases worse than M$. Individual privacy is a thing of the past unless you choose to get off the grid and pay cash for all transactions. Its going to take a high security Samsung employee to leak information or a Russian hacker to provide a method to remove system files such as Knox. The option of installing an older OS defeats the purpose of purchasing a new model.
Correction: "How to Uninstall Carrier/OEM Bloatware Without Root Access" article by Doug Lynch" still works o some files. Just need to use a different cable. I therefore have one cable for charging, and another one for data. Cannot confuse the two since battery drain is terrible at best and the J7 requires nearly daily charging even when not being used. Hopefully Samsung will have a recall and bring it up to that of an average phone.

Unlock the Bootloader if you have got the Snapdragon Version. Flash TWRP with Odin and then flash Magisk v16.0 with TWRP. After that install Magisk Manager. As easy as that! Links down below:

Why doesn't someone compile a TWRP already??
I'm requesting the experts here.
Try Magisk. (I've personally tried and succeeded).
1. Extract "boot.img" from J720F's latest stock firmware and copy it to your sd-card.
2. Install latest Magisk Manager apk.
3. Through Magisk patch the stock "boot.img" in Odin flashable ".img.tar" format.
4. Copy the "patched-boot.img.tar" to your pc and load it in Odin's "AP".
5. Make sure your phone is OEM unlocked.
6. Go to recovery mode and make factory reset/wipe data for best result (I've not tested whether it works without factory reset)
7. Go to download mode (Newer models like J720F doesn't support previous download mode access method by pressing and holding volume down+home+power buttons. New method is pressing and holding "volume down+home" button and attaching the usb cable).
8. Flash the "patched-boot.img.tar"
9. After restart finish additional setups in Magisk app.
10. Enjoy!

Problem with TWRP Recovery v3.1.1 on my Samsung SM-j701M

Hello there
I bought a Samsung J7 Neo (SM -J701M) on another country than mine (Im from Argentina, device bought on Paraguay). Anyway, I started to look another way to get some space on the internal storage and I remember that android had an option to expand it, using a SD Card. Unfortunately, i realize this option is not allowed on samsungs device, but it works (i read it, because can't do it) if you get root user.
So I looked how to do it and i found a group of files
ODIN v3.12
Magisk v.14.5
twrp v.3.1.1 -j7 neo
Im not sure if I downloaded the right files, but im start the process anyway.
I followed point by point
First I installed TWRP Recovery v3.1.1 (which is supposed to be correct to my model) and then already on twrp rom I installed magisk 14.5 from sd card and did wipe data.
Turned on the phone and I restored all apps from a google backups, and I realized I cant find app "Magisk" on the device, so I decided to reboot the phone and it starts to do a bootloop with this error "kernel rev. check fail, device:2 binary:1"
At this point, I failed every attempt to fix this error
I tried installing the last official firmware that i found (and Im not sure if its the correct one)
J701MUBU3ARC2_J701MUWT3ARC1_UFN
And I got this error
"SW REV. CHECK Fail (BOOTLOADER) Device :5 Binary 3:
I searched on google this kind of error, and I found that I have to downgrade the bootloader. And this is why im here beacause I dont know how to do this, and if its works, i don´t know how to continue the process to root and expand my internal storage. So I really appreciate if someone one could help me with this. I can learn fast and I love to do this things by myself.
Thanks for your time!
Fernando
If you have to downgrade the boot loader, it means the firmware you are flashing is older than the one on your fon.
Go to www.updato.com and look for the he latest J701M firmware.
You can sort the list by date and by region.
And the site is download manager friendly ?
Good luck!
Sent from my SM-J700F using Tapatalk
Thanks for your answer! One more question about the region. Should I download firmware from the country that I bought the phone or firmware from the country that I am?
Look for your country specific firmware first.
Otherwise Samsung usually has regional software - i.e for several countries in a region e.g. Argentina, Paraguay.

Fernando

Hi There,
Did you have any luck with your Phone? I have the same exact model but I have Android Version 8.1.0, Samsung Experience version 9.5; Android security patch level -Feb 1, 2019; Baseband version: J701MUBS6BSB3 and like you, I love doing things myself, and I can't seem to abide a smartphone that's not rooted.
I'm not exactly a newbie, I've been assisting devs with testing and such on AT&T SGS3 for quite some time. But I can't seem to find a stable method for rooting for this phone, no one seems to be doing any development on it.
I would love to hear your story thus far.
im needing help myself, i have the SM-J701M (J7 NEO), with android pie 9 official, but the binary is 7 (because Argentina Geniuses of course) and of all the things i tried nothing works, and the only thing they did was brick the phone, so i flash and stock firmnware to be usable again

What have you done? I saw your messages on TG but everyone ignores usually, I had another problem and footbed the solution myself as I got ignored for days.
So, what have you done? Maybe we can figure it out a way to root it, but to avoid telling you things that you may have already done it is better if you let us know your already followed steps.

i tried flashing TWRP like a guide said (Latest version) but then got stuck with a boot loop in the Samsung Galaxy Logo, then when i enter to flash the latest global firmware it didn't work because it was binary 6, so i searched for the version in Argentina that has binary 7, after that i didn't try anything else in fears of getting fully bricked, i was thinking of the magisk canary way of rooting (patching the AP) but i don't know what happen if it fails the flash
Hi, i have the same device, SM-J701M, but when i try to flash the stock, it says that the device binary is 9 and the rom is 8, but i cant find the binary 9 rom in any place, only 8. I have the trwp installed, so I was thinking if I format all data (system and files) and try to flash again, it will work ?
Also im from Brazil (SM-J701MT), and the device was buyed in Paraguay (SM-J701M) too. Should i install the SM-J701MT ROM right ?
Some success.

Ok, guys, I've had a bit of progress with my device Samsung Galaxy J 7 Neo (SM-J701M- Android version 8.01)
On this phone, the option to unlock the bootloader was missing in Dev Opt and I knew that in order to achieve anything I was going to have to unlock the bootloader.
I searched and found that, via adb/fastboot (Google's Platform Tools) rebooting the phone to the bootloader you could enter the code: 'fastboot oem unlock' or 'fastboot flashing unlock' and voila! everything would be fixed...But...my device wasn't even being recognized by "fastboot" ! adb yes but no fastboot! Always the message: "Waiting on any device". Trying to find and install the drivers to do this was next to impossible.
It actually caused me soft brick my device. However, it was a blessing in disguise; I knew what had to be done, I was going to have to reinstall the firmware via Odin. I searched the site (Sammobile - you'll have to create an account.) and found the Oreo and the Pie Firmware, I downloaded both but played it safe and restored my device with the Oreo first.
And lo and behold the option to unlock bootloader was there! No hesitation, clicked that sucker fast!!
Now, I'm running PIE (No one has done a Custom ROM for this baby just yet) and with the unofficial TWRP in the first link below, it's a bit buggy but until they make an official one for us ... I guess we'll have to wait.
Oh! And don't forget to make a backup with Smart Switch!
And pay attention to the advice here:
Code:
1. Extract the firmware file you just downloaded. You should get 5 files:
AP (System &Recovery)
BL (Bootloader)
CP (Modem / Radio)
CSC_*** (Country / Region / Operator)
HOME_CSC_*** (Country / Region / Operator)
2. Add each file to its respective field in Odin v3.14.4. Use CSC_*** if you want to do a clean flash or HOME_CSC_*** if you want to keep your apps and data.
3. Reboot your phone in Download / Odin mode (make sure your device is off) with the following button combo: POWER + VOLUME DOWN + BIXBY
Other options in case first option did not work or isn't possible.
Option 2 VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP then USB cable
Option 3 POWER + VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP
Option 4 POWER + VOLUME DOWN + HOME BUTTON
Option 5 (Note9) USB cable + VOLUME DOWN + BIXBY
Option 6 (Note10) POWER + VOLUME UP
4. Once in download mode, connect your phone to the PC, preferably using the original USB cable you got with your phone. Odin should detect your device and a BLUE box will show up with the COM port number. (Be sure, the SAMSUNG-drivers are installed on your PC!)
Do NOT tick any extra boxes. The only options to be ticked are F.Reset Time and Auto-Reboot.
5. Click the start button, wait for Odin to say 'PASS' in a GREEN box. Once the flash is complete, your phone will reboot, and you can disconnect your phone from the PC

I think that's because you have to be specific with the carrier; Orange; Nextel; Movistar...that makes a lot of difference in with the firmware. If you can, check to see what you had before and try that first.

Hey, I noticed we have the same android version and and phone model, I wanted to know which version of Twrp you used . I am guessing version 3.1.1?
It's an Un-official version of TWRP, so the version #( 3.2.1-0) may not count, you can check the links out to get more information.
hola tengo un problema, tengo un sm-j701m binario 11 android 9 y quiero intalarle un twrp pero no se cual descargar y que funcione
Don't know if anyone's still following this thread or even still has this phone but there's been quite some progress with this device. (i.e: SM-J701M) The posts below will certainly help to bring your device up to date re: rooting; flashing etc.
