TWRP Question - so confused - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hi all.
Hope someone can help me. When I got my Samsung S8+, I quickly installed TWRP and then rooted it with magisk the same day I received it.
After that I removed a LOT of bloatware and installed hundreds of apps and everything was fine for 6 months.
One day it gave me a weird lock error, because I think I accidentally removed the OEM Unlock and the phone went crazy.
I had no phone for a few days but eventually I managed to flash stock rom and phone went back to normal.
I lost root, but I managed to keep all my data.
Now I want to see if I can get root again. However, all the tutorials to get TWRP require that I wipe my phone.
My questions are:
Can I root my phone without wiping all my data? Is there a chance that my bootloader is unlocked already or did flashing stock rom remove that?
If I have to wipe my data, how can I keep all my apps (and the app data). I have Titan Backup but that needs root to work so I don't see how to save the app data?
Thanks

Inorder to root, you need twrp and in order to get twrp working you need to wipe everything first.
I don't know if there is the possibility to backup app data without root, however i found this articel.
Just because I'm curious, which apps are important for you to have a local backup? I went through all my apps and didn't found a single app which isn't either naturally stored in the cloud (like whatsapp, FB, Snapchat,..) or has the function to export/backup things like tasker. :fingers-crossed:

Hi Jaannis.
I have a lot of apps that do not store their data in the cloud but locally in the phone. Without being too specific, some of these are notes, some are social apps (connections with hundreds of different people around the world with conversations, pictures and videos) and some are personal collected data.
I managed to migrate all the data the last 5 years using Titan and I think it's silly after managing to save them suddenly to lose them. On the other hand it kind of looks like there is no other way. Without Titan backup working, I will need to lose everything.

HELP

So, I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate) last weekend. I had it rooted and everything was fine. Then I got rid of some of the bloatware. I wrote a couple of programs for myself to use, so I needed to enable side-loading. I did that-successfully.
First sign of a problem was when I went to the marketplace and it would not download any single app that I tried. So, I went to restore the phone using the backup I made, but some reason it wasn't there.
Then I decided to revert to factory settings. I did a hard reset, but the problem was still not resolved. Then I found a thread on here about Odin 3. I've been trying to use that all night but the best I've gotten is to the File Analysis step. I've tried at least 10 different times.
I'm trying to get everything back up and running and preferably rooted again so that I can use my Titanium backup to restore all my apps and settings.
I'm at my wits end, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Factory reset would not solve any problems that may have been caused by deleting core apps. Is your phone rooted and nand unlocked (baseband) or just rooted? Are you running a custom rom? If so you need to reflash the rom after clearing cache and dalvik cache. If you still have the original rom then you can reflash an official samsung firmware using odin, look for your handsets firmware on www.samfirmwares.com
Other than that you could try finding out which apps are needed and using root explorer you may be able to fix the version you have. If the market is your only issue then try clearing data and cache settings/manage apps/market and download manager (two different apps)
How did you root your phone? Did you install a custom ROM yet? What bloatware did you remove, and how did you go about it?
Ok. In the wee hours this morning I finally got Odin to work and now everything works as it should. I switched computers and the program worked right away. Intersting tidbit though, I accidentally left the sim card in during the reflash and I had no ill effects. I'm actually wondering if that helped me.
Thanks tina333.
nenol, I used the one touch root. I have not installed a custom rom and I don't remember exactly which of the programs I uninstalled. I used Titanium backup to both backup my apps and to delete the bloatware.
There are very few system apps that are not needed by the system, titanium only backs up data by default. Be careful what you delete and always research first

[Q] Unrooted with SuperSU & lost all data

My phone's been rooted ever since i got it and the only reason i was looking into unrooting it is because work email app won't install on a rooted device. i didn't want to return to stock and lock my bootloaders and all that as i really like the rom i'm using, which is Trickdroid 8.1. a lot of searching on the internet and several discussions pointed to using the unroot feature in supersu but i was under the impression that data on the phone would not be lost/deleted. boy was i wrong.
i went ahead to unroot in supersu and it took sometime to remove itself along with superuser app. unrooting seem to have worked as i am now able to install work email app BUT i just noticed all of my data is gone. anyone know what the hell happened?
I know there's not chance for me to get the files back but i'd just like to understand where I went wrong (if not). other than not backing up everything beforehand of course.

After applying root to 4.4.2 screen turns on by itself

So, I got the 4.4.2 OTA some days ago and just today I realised I had lost root. Also, I could not enter TWRP, so I flashed TWRP again and rooted the phone.
Everything went fine, but now the screens turns on by itself to show the lock screen every 3 or 4 minutes. I tried rebooting and then I tried wiping caches, but it's still the same.
Any ideas? Thanks!

It depends on a few factors, I think. 1) Do you have any apps that could induce a screen wake? 2) While rooted did you have any custom configs on your phone that is not part of the STOCK KitKat?
Look, my best solution especially since after an OTA while rooted is to do a factory reset and rerooting after that initial setup. I know that's not the most attractive option but if you can do it I would suggest to do it.
Oh oh, also, for some reason--and this is with FULL DISCLAIMER that I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DATA LOSS YOU MAY INCUR or if your phone EXPLODES--but whenever I do a factory wipe from recovery (I use TWRP) I don't lose my personal data, such as photos and music, because it only wipes Data, Cache, and Dalvik--which only holds apps and stuff. From my understanding, libraries from Music and Photos are in the *SDCARD* folder which isn't deleted in the factory reset function. Anyhoo... I suggest to do a FULL BACKUP before attempting anything I'm totally not responsible for ANY LOSS OF DATA
Haha... See how that goes
check if you have forgotten to grant permission for apps that require roots to work (e.g. Greenify, betterbattery, etc). When they ask for permission for root access in the background they will switch on the screen. This odd behaviour should go away once you have grant them access.
Thanks, guys. I was just coming back to say that it is fixed. Good to know about the wipe not affecting the emulated sdcard, Maxy.
It was actually because of what chi_heng said, I think. After rooting many apps were supposed to get permissions but SU wouldn't show the dialogue. I rebooted again a few times and waited and then some of those dialogues came up.
Thanks!

Android 5.0.1/5.0.2 - Encrypted and Rooted - Bootloop/bricked: Can I recover?

Hi guys, here's my dilemma:
Samsung Galaxy S6 with Android 5.0.1 or 5.0.2 (I forget which)
Rooted & Full device encryption
Want to recover my information if possible; no factory reset
My questions:
Is there a way to fix a system to recover my data on a rooted & fully encrypted device?
Would flashing work, and how would I go about the recovery process?
Do I need to know the exact OS (cant remember if 5.0.1 or 5.0.2)
Is there a way to get the encrypted data copied and decrypted so I can read it again? (I heard something called adb can be used?)
Things I have tried: Powering down for a while, clearing cache partition, etc. This is the 4th time it has happened in 1.5 years, and I'm tired of it. Warranty/insurance affected by root status so would have to pay for $150 trade-in. Just want my data and ideally move to a new phone.
Do you not have a recovery backup you can restore ? What exactly are you concerned about loosing in terms of data.. are you worried about loosing pictures saved on your phone or say.. text messages ?
@fOmey - I'm not sure if I had a recovery backup. I did have TWRP(?) installed, though. I am worried about losing many pictures and also app data (to do lists, etc.) that aren't synced with a cloud service.

Boot into TWRP and check if you have a backup, if you don't have a backup you can dirty flash your rom and with a bit of luck you'll boot into your OS.

Device is bootlooping can anyone help?

Hi, i was messing around with my root for a while the other day and basically my phone seemed ok for a day or two then today i tried to open the built in file manager and my phone turned off and will only bootloop into twrp.
i noticed a lot of apps playing up, like Ebay would open and crash instantly and so would lots of other apps.
question is, is there possible fixes you know of? i have lots of data that i need with no backup and its not just files
if i flash my stock rom in TWRP without wiping data would i possibly be able to get access again or does flashing stock automatically wipe the data?
if there is no fix is there anyway i can find out a list of my installed apps via TWRP?
thanks

Flashing stock does not wipe data. First try just installing magisk in twrp and reboot.
