Dolby/EQ and bluetooth - Huawei P20 Questions & Answers

Does anyone knows if the eq and/or Dolby is systemwide? In Mate 10 Pro you can only use the eq when using cable, witch is pretty stupid when not having a 3.5 on it.

Dolby Atmos is System wide. You get a USB C to 3.5 adaptor in the box.
Dolby ATMOS is not yet supported over Bluetooth.
I have the Huawei P20.

Thanks, I was afraid for that. Not being able to modify the sound over Bluetooth is a bit sad. I don't even have any non Bluetooth headphones left anymore [emoji41]

What about the equalizer over Bluetooth?
Skickat från min Pixel 2 XL via Tapatalk

Sorry but equaliser isn't availability over Bluetooth from the built in music app, Huawei are apparently working on this feature.
There are additional Bluetooth features in system settings for 16,24,32 bit audio and different Bluetooth profiles.
Only had the P20 for 2 days so still experimenting myself.
I am using £20 in ear BT headphones and they sound great, when I get the free Bose ones in my P20 offer I'll report back

Thank you. I'll imagine the sound is about the same as Mate 10 pro and I was hoping that Huawei had fixed modulation over bt. Hopefully it will come in the future. Sounds like a great phone though.

Not supported on huawei p20 pro on Huawei freebuds as well.

any news?
Any news about the feature? at my p20 pro dolby atmos is still not available for BT headphones

I have just sent a complaint to Huawei about this. I have P8 Lite, P9 and now P20 Pro. P8Lite and P9 play music over Bluetooth without any issues, but P20Pro is just so quiet/low with volume, that it is first time in my life when I have reached the limit on the volume scale in my cars audio system.
This, in my opinion, is not acceptable. I am not expecting any special audio drivers, not even HTC Beats mode from the HTC One X and One S which was brilliant with Beats Headphones, but I am at least expecting to be able to listen to music in my car on a medium/average level. Currently, it is so bad that I have stopped using my phone in the car and had to get USB flash drives from the glovebox and will have to move all the music from the phone onto USB sticks.

Would be very intruiged to know what Huawei has answered ?
Did you get any answer?
Kind regards!

Yep. That they thank you for the feedback and asked me if the issue also exists
if I will connect the phone by aux cable.
Plus the following:
"In regards to your query, what I suggest you do in this situation is to perform a network reset on your device:
1. Open Settings.
2. Touch Advanced settings > Backup & reset.
3. Touch Network settings reset and follow the onscreen instructions to restore the settings.
Furthermore, kindly be informed that I have reported this incompatibility situation and maybe it will be solved with future updates.
Thank you very much for your understanding and patience. "
Nothing specific.
After 2 weeks I have to say, that issue looks resolved, but I don't know how. I have not changed anything in my phone.
It did have several soft-resets but nothing serious.

[Q] Fiio E18 DAC/AMP compatible?

Hi, I recently bought the Samsung galaxy note 4.
Has anyone got the E18 working with it? I would like to know before ordering the E18.
Also I plan to use it with a lot of spotify. Even though that is not the best source I do believe the E18 will still dramatically improve the sound.
Does anyone know if that's true or is it not worth bothering getting an E18 if spotify is my source?
Thanks,
coffeenkfc

Sweet! Thanks!
According to the guys over at headfi, it is a software issue. Kitkat does not support music over usb. You will have to wait until Lolipop comes out that will support music over usb. You can still use the Fiio as a regular amp, just no DAC
I also order one myself from the Massdrop deal, i should have it by Tuesday, my Beyerdynamic 770 are useless without a AMP/DAC.
Thanks kryz70fr, does it work as a DAC or just as a AMP? Are you using the kitkat version of android?

My portable setup for 16bit audio is/was an old 5.1 ipod w/ Wolfson DAC, AMP'd with the TTVJ Slim. My portable setup for HD 24bit audio is an Astell&Kern 120 Titan, no AMP. My portable cans are Beyer D's DT1350's @ 80ohms and Westone 4R IEMs @ 31ohms.
I've recently put a fair amount of 16bit audio on my Note 4 and use Neutron as my player. After boosting up the preamp a bit in Neutron, I can run my DT1350s with no amp and still get an excellent sound signature compared to my ipod/TTJV Slim setup. Very happy with the sound.
I don't see the Note 4 being able to drive cans that are much > 80ohm of impedance without an AMP. Honestly, 80ohms is at the higher end of the scale to be driven by most portable devices/phones, something in the 30ohm range would be a better choice. I'd say my 1350's require about 20-25% more volume relative to my 4Rs.
Which DT770s do you have, the 32, 80 or 250ohm version?
You don't need any software like audio pro. I use it with e18 and e17 from fiio. Note 4 has native usb audio. Just get a nice player like poweramp or neutron.

verified e18 works with note 4
Hi guys I found an e18 to test w/ my note 4 and it works as a DAC no problem with android 4.4.4.
Finally I can listen to music in a decent & portable way
Only two minor complaints - the USB mini to USB mini cable that comes with the e18 seems too tight. Hopefully doesn't wear out the connector.
The other item is when music isn't playing you hear a little static on occasion (at least when spotify is running & no music is playing) but I think I read this on a review saying it's pretty hard to eliminate this the source being a smartphone so I can accept that.

Have you tried FLAC music on the Note 4 feeding the E18?
Charges for me. Did you try selecting 'CHG OUT' and also powering on the e18 i.e. turning the volume knob higher than 0? The cable you should be using is the same as DAC i.e. middle. You can't use the side connector i.e. the one you use to charge the e18 to also charge your phone.

What is the sound quality when using Bluetooth headset?

I originally wrote this which is wrong
I am fairly sure the AZf3U doesn't have AptX... I've not found single Snapdragon 650 or 652 with it
even though Qualcomm own AptX/Aptx-HD now.

Since then I did some research, and found I was wrong. So I came here to correct my post, and noticed that @tamerh had thankfully pointed out the error before other people were misled.
So I found that there are products with the Snapdragon 652 which do have AptX, and not only that, the Asus Zenpad 3 8", has an SD650 and AptX.
https://www.asus.com/Tablets/ASUS-ZenPad-3-8-0-Z581KL/specifications/
It occurs to me that there may be apps on that tablet, as well as patches and updates, which can be applied onto the Zf3U, and vice versa, as there's likely to be a fair in common between the devices.
Asus zenfone 3 ultra has aptx, the aptx notification appears when I connect a Bluetooth headset with aptx, and asus zenfone 3 ultra comes with snapdragon 652

Very bad sound quality via earphones

Hi, I using Mix 2s and the quality of sound on earphones is quite a disaster.
Sound is very grainy and there is a lot of static noise in some songs. I am using Spotify Premium with very high-quality settings and the sound on wireless and wired earphones is the same - means very bad. So, it’s not just bad piece of set.
I was blaming the audio codec on Bluetooth as my BT earphones should be able to use ACC codec, but there is just SBC available in developer option. I heard the BT codec issue in last Global MIUI I am using global 10.2.2) not allowing to use any codec outside SBC, but the sound is the same on wired earphones.
Does anyone experience the same issue with sound quality?

Have tried Mix2s with 3 different phones at home on BT and headset. Samsung A8, Honor 8 Pro and iPhone 6s and most ****ty sound by class is from Xiaomi, which makes me very sad as this is my daily driver... will try MIUI EU if this makes any difference or sell my Xiaomi device.
I come from a redmi note 4X and dont notice any problems with it. I have a brainwavz BLU200, which supports aptx.
Maybe the phone is recognizing the headphones as a headset (for calls which utterly kills the sound quality).

Thank you, but this is not the case. The sound is bad also on wired headphones. Sound is flat, lot of static noise, missing any stage. By class worst sound from 4 phones I can find at home. I will try different USB C to 3.5 mm adapter if helps.
Ouch, I have not tried the usb adapter with my wired headphones. I'm scared to try now (ignorance is bliss?).

My LDAC headphones work well. I am afraid there's something wrong with your device and I'd recommend to have it repaired.
Just tested the wired audio with my Brainwavz HM5 and i found it awesome. Also i have searched a bit on the net and seems that the mi mix 2s outputs analog over the USB-C adapter. The sounds come from the DAC on the SoC (SD845) which seems to be a quite nice DAC (https://semiaccurate.com/2017/12/19/qualcomm-ups-audio-ante-snapdragon-845/) to be a cellphone.
Try wiping and flashing a stock rom. If that dont fix it, I suspect that your case is a hardware problem.
And last but not less important, i'm not an audiophile so maybe what i hear good is subpar to you, but if the sound would be as bad, way more people would have complained by now.
Thank you. I have tried different USB-C to 3,5mm adapter then standard Xiaomi one and grain is about 50% less so positive news here, but sound is still flat and dont have any sound stage. May be I am to picky and got luck with my previous phones. I have ordered external DAC adapter to solve this problem as on the other hand this is only problem I have with the phone.
I one of my friends found the core of the problem. He sad to have iPhone 7 that sounds ****ty as well. He had found out after about year of searching and two sets of headphones that somewhere in some different settings was set MONO sound only. My problem was same and very stupid! For my IQ deffence I don't know why this settings is not located in sound section. So problem solved and thank everybody for help! For anyone having this issue you can deactivate Mono sound in Settings -> Additional Settings -> Accessibility -> Turn off "Mono Audio"

Calling with USB C Earphones?

Hi,
So bought these awesome Razer USB C earphones which have a built in mic. They work fine as both earphones and a microphone but for some reason the native phone app will not route the call audio through them!
I have no doubt this is a quick fix for Samsung kernel or otherwise as they remove the USB port from the next generation of phones but I would expect USB C earphones to work. Other phones like Oppus, Huwei, HTC and Pixel don't seem to have issues.
Any ideas here?
I have the OnePlus USB-C Bullet earphone, it works fine both for audio and for a call.
I've been trying my old HTC headphones I got with the U11. Sadly these don't work at all as they are brilliant headphones.
Probably because of the active noise cancelation they need a specific driver.
Okay, will return and try these instead.

The OnePlus USB-C earphones didn't work with my Note 9 either. At least these are cheaper...
I believe some of those headsets use a analog pass trough instead of having their own DAC so they only work with a phone that supports that

Note 9 - USB C Headphone Support

Hi,
Let's start a USB C earphone support thread. So far I've tried the following, without full support:
- Razer Hammerhead, Music Yes, Microphone in Recorder Yes, Calls No
- OnePlus Bullets, Music Yes, Recorder Yes, Calls No
I'm starting to think all USB C headphones are going to be like this on the Note 9... Surprised they haven't updated the source to support these kinds of headphones ahead of the Note 10 and it's lack of 3.5mm port.
Same problem
Same problem here. No solution so far. Going to take these things back.

I'm thinking they don't see a reason to have usb c headphone fully supported on the Note 9 because it actually has a 3.5mm port? We all know Samsung is the last to adopt certain things. It would be nice if they did support it though because the range of possibilities would be more for listening to music. Headphone Jack busted...not a problem, use usb c port etc.
Xiaomi ANC HiRes audio type C earphones, not working at all
I've tried Google's for pixel 3 earphones. Music and control (including mic on recorder) yes, phone calls no. But I must say: the sound through these earphones surpasses anything I've tried on my note 9. Even without phone call function the quality of music coming out of these earphones is worth it!
HTC U-Sonic USB-C earbuds are a no-go all the way around on both the Note 9 & Note FE.
The Developer Options on the Note FE even has an audio source option in the USB Configuration section & still nothing.
IIRC, the HTC USB-C buds were one of the earliest models available & may have been proprietary to HTC phones.
I have got them to work on a few non-HTC phones along the way, but, Samsung isn't one of 'em (OnePlus/BlackShark/RazerPhone come to mind,IIRC).
Sent from my Note Fan Edition using XDA Labs
I wouldn't be surprised if the Note 9, 8 and FE don't support the use of USB Type-C headsets for calling.
I use a Lenovo USB-C hub that I plug my Astro Mixamp into and listen to music.
I can't get phone calls to work tho.
i tried plugging note 10 C headphone to my note 9 so it is just able to hear music but can not answer the call. However, the C headphone did on my S10e.
OnePlus Type-C Bullets work!
Hey everybody! I just came on to search whether or not my type C bullets from my OnePlus 6t would work on the Note 9 I just got. Before plugging them in, I went into developer options and unchecked "Disable USB audio routing". Plugged them in and the sound incredible! The in-line volume, play and pise functions on the Bullets work as well. However, attempted to make a phone call and it just stayed defaulted to the phones earpiece with the Bluetooth or speaker phone option. Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience a few moments ago lol. Yes it would be great if we could get these to work with a simple phone call. Hate to just put these Bullets in a drawer to collect dust until the day they are supported by a phone I own lol.

Correct. I also tried on a Corsair G935 and audio works but phone calls do it. Tried it on my Note 10 and if works just fine for calls.
Thinking this might be a hardware and not a software issue.

Okay so i know this thread was started a while back, I just wanna say for any new Googler's that the Note 9 cannot support calls because it has the 3.5mm ear jack which handles all the analogue sounds means phone calls, "Hey Google" and similar cannot be passed through the Type C headsets/headphones. Its hardware so no apps can help with that.
