Just have bought XZ Premium - downgrade to Nougat & unlock bootloader question - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

Hello dear Veterans,
I have XZ P with Oreo on it, and backed up TA with this tool https://forum.xda-developers.com/xz-premium/how-to/ta-backup-g814x-t3691603
Next, I have to downgrade and do xperifix, right?
But where do I get the FTF for latest nougat, and how do I flash it? Before I used to have a Z3, it was pretty easy with flashtool.
I can also unlock the bootloader, root, twrp on oreo then flash a 7.1.1 rom, right, but where do I find those...?
I don't want Oreo because I have privacy-related apps and they don't run well on Oreo, plus in Oreo the ID of apps are separate and it makes titaniumbackup obsolete...

if you are looking to retain your DRM keys - there is no way at present (it provides info and insite and only partially backs it up). so before you go unlocking your bootloader be aware of that incase you were wanting to keep your drm keys.
if not and just want to root your phone then have a look at XperiFix

Thank you, the problem is I want to know how to downgrade to nougat with drm keys gone but still the same functions. If there was a tutorial it would be great
Impossible to downgrade without ftf...

I have it, but I'm out of the country till 13 april.
You can search it on a polish forum

You can download the FTF using Xperifirm, then flash using flashtool.

[FXZ] Stock Verizon Nougat addison_verizon_oem_vzw 7.0 AND 7.1.1

These are the whole firmwares to be flashed independently. No need to do 7 before 711.
Anyone that uses this to upgrade the Chinese phone to Nougat please post how you did it. There are many waiting for a solution.
I copied the whole Mac directory for 711. There are many support files there and a backup & restore apk which will not work stand-alone.
From Mac upgrade assistant.
I zipped the folder from: User/library/application support/.msu/addison_verizon_oem_vzw_user_7.0_NDNS25.137-24-1-4_4_release-keys-cid2_vzw
March patch.
BTW it updates without any data wipe or option to data wipe if you wanted to! Via the assistant that is.
Unlike Moto's recommendations, go figure...
BTW, BTW
Anyone know if apps can be extracted from a FXZ?
I only used this from the upgrade assistant and it did not wipe any user data.
There were some fastboot files (and such) in the .msu folder but when I went back later to show hidden files on wifes El Capitan msu was gone. I was at risk of great peril messing with wifes Mac. My Lion will not run it.
How it it working for everyone?
Request,
Could some kind soul upload Nougat apps (and privapps) from a Z and Z force?
I use them as fake apps in the Play, a way of disabling sys apps.
Root is not needed, more if you need help

Do you know if these non original MM retla or what ever firmware they have, could do the same as you did?
Gearbest is one retailer that passes these as normal phones.

Yekollu was particle right, but if we unlock bootloader on 1635-03 we can easy flash fw for other region on our phones.
I think they have retail, flashed by Gearbest and - if they have unlocked bl - they can flash any other region's ROM with RSD LITE. BUT I THINK - if they Don't wanna to have bricks - they must flash FW only with RSD lite.. )
---------- Post added at 09:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:43 AM ----------
By the way - if people just want to have 7.1.1 - it will be better for them - to flash TWRP and any custom ROM with it.
Anyway - they will not get OTA update on any custom stock based ROMs. And it will be better for them- don't try to sideload OTA via ADB.

If people want pure stock they can just

Hi, I have a XT1635-03 on retcn channel, my device is encrypted, I have the dual sim version it runs on android 6.0.1, I've never rooted it and I'm not planning to... I have a few questions and I would be very thankful if you could answer them:
1)do you have the dual sim version? do both sims work fine after the update?
2)did you flash the rom straight from 6.0.1?
3)are there any issues like with camera, notification sound, swipe to shrink screen,...?
4)why do you suggest for the Chinese version users to flash a stock based custom rom with TWRP? it doesn't give you update capability or factory reset option!
5)is there a specific way to unlock the bootloader "officially"?
6)what's with the bat file you talked about? (sorry I'm kind of a noob)
7)the link you mentioned doesn't have the 7.1.1 version... isn't it better to flash the rom provided on this thread?
I'm sorry to ask this many questions... thanks in advance

2. At first I flash a lot of AOSP / LOS based ROMs ))
3. I have no any issues.

5. Yes. Just Google it
6. It's flash(or something like).bat - file in archive.
7. I'm taking about this ROM. It will be better and more safety to flash it for newbies.
You can also try ROM from this thread, but it have to many Verizon apps..

thanks so much for the help...
so if I flash the rom from this thread and try to update it later, I'll probably have risk of a hard brick, is that correct?
I only prefer this rom compared to one you mentioned because this one here is "stock", it's more reliable, and I don't need to install TWRP... so considering these, tell me if it's still better for me to flash the stock based custom rom from "flashallthtime" (the one you mentioned)

Fingerprint scanner and video recording not working after unlocking bootloader.

I unlocked my bootloader and relocked it with flashtool. Now I can only take photos on the camera app (same results with 3rd party apps). Any kind of video recording lags extremely or just gives me a blank screen and the fingerprint scanner doesn't respond. Like it's turned off. Any ideas how to fix this? I'm using the z5 premium e6853.
Thanks.

How did you relock bootloader? with TA backup?
Try to use patched kernel.
Thanks for the reply. I actually just was about to report back that I fixed the issue. I flashed over the drm workaround with twrp.
I found it here:

Happy to say everything is working perfectly now.
Will this work for 7 nougat on a z5?
I'm not sure. I flashed back to marshmallow to get it working. Then upgraded to the latest official firmware after.
i have even flashed back to marshmallow and still fingerprint is not working - has all the apk but doesnt look like its activating @Mike3009 are you able to give me the steps you used - i have tried numerous different processes

I'm pretty new to all of this so I'm not sure if this is the most efficient way to do it but here's what I did.
first I downloaded the official marshmallow firmware from xperiafirm and flashed it over with the latest version of flashtool. If you're bootloader isn't already unlocked, you should unlock it in flashtool. (needs to stay unlocked after too for this to work. I tried relocking it after and lost functionality) after you've flashed it over you need to get a modified kernel for your phone and firmware version. Flash that over and install the latest twrp. After that install the drm fix. Test if everything is working and if it is, download the latest official firmware from xperiafirm and flash over with flashtool.

Try this drm fix. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/restore-drm-xperia-z5/
As for my marshmallow firmware, I'm in Taiwan so I used the only one listed on xperiafirm for Taiwan. Sorry I'm not able to use a Pc now to confirm.
are you on android 7.1.1?
Oops double post...sorry. Look below.
Yes. I didn't know to back up my drm keys before unlocking my bootloader and thought I was screwed. Now I'm on the latest 7.1.1, all drm functions working and I have root access. This drm fix works perfectly on the z5 premium e6853.(other models too but I can't personally verify)

Flashing Xperia XZP?

Hi, i've sony xperia xz premium and i want to flash a generic italian firmware. It's my first time in flashing a sony device and i searched a lot in internet, but i found nothing. I'm on locked bootloader, any help please?
You need flashtool to flash Sony devices. www.flashtool.net
But, it is not yet compatible with XZP.
There is another tool but no one know the safety of it so better wait.
Btw, you don't need to unlock the bootloader to flash official roms from other regions.

thank you man. I was reading about a file which is needed to use XZP with flashtool.
And, What about Xperia companion, SEUS and Emma? Are them good to de-brand?
Don't know those 2 other tools.
Personnaly I used on old version of that unsafe tool found on another thread here to unbrand, then to sleep well I did a software recovery using official Xperia companion.
Maybe it is total useless but who knows

Would there be any advantage with using a generic firmware for the same region, versus the carrier specific one?
So, does unlocking the bootloader and rooting cause you to stop getting OTA updates like on most phones?

I feel your pain. You need newflasher and to follow the tutorial here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72958788&postcount=16
- except make sure you put all the *.sin files in the newflasher directory and flash your phone.. Exclude everything else

You don't have carrier bloatwares, but most of all, usually custom fw are released sooner because they don't need carriers approvals.

Don't remember about the bootloader but rooting it most probably make it fail to update.
Can't confirm, I usually flash new firm when they are released and don't wait for OTA stuff.
But the most annoying with Xperia phones since Z series, they have a "TA" partition, that contains DRM keys. They are used to unlock features like Bravia engine, special sound processing, ... And it seems also some camera features on XZP.
And when you unlock the bootloader, it wipes this partition and you lose your keys forever.
On Z5 there were two solution for this problem:
- Wait for a security breach that allow rooting Android, and gives you the hability to backup this partition. Then you can restore it after unlocked bootloader.
- Some people modded kernels to fake the presence of DRM keys.
In my opinion, for bootloader unlocking, wait that XZ1 are released (since they probably will have same specs as XZP) and more people getting involved to see what happens. Losing keys = losing Sony specific features you paid for.
By doing this, u won't lose any DRM key: obviously u need to remove all *.ta files (same from boot directory) in which those keys are contained.
I successfully flashed generic firmware over customized carrier firmware and in support app i got the same warranty message. No unlock no drm lost
@Jake_09 yes, carriers are often slowers in releasing firmware (i'm speaking about TIM carrier for Italy), in fact the rom which i found when i bought my phone was updated at april security patches. Now i got the last no brand update. I did the same as @ninjy with xperia companion after newflasher. Hope it helps!
Unlocking bootloader wipe TA partition, not flashing roms

Heh, thanks for spreading my links :3.
Why we can't use flashtool? Maybe an old flashtool version can be used? I do not trust newflasher since virustotal reports it as a malware https://www.virustotal.com/sr/file/...57fcac8e88f48e8ab00a1cc61c9081d8f47/analysis/

That looks like a false positive since it's only 2-3 different AVs (at most) that are detecting it.
I'm going to flash to an unbranded/generic FW tonight and see how it goes!

Cheers for this. I was worries about losing the features of the sony if I flashed a generic rom over the carrier specific one I have.
Not sure if this will do anything to improve the compatability between my car and the phone via bluetooth but worth a try.

This definitely didn't touch DRM at all. Just make sure you definitely don't use any of the *.TA files at all, even the one in the BOOT folder. I can still adjust my screen colour settings and they definitely work, sound settings, etc. Works great
Whats this talk about excluding .ta files? I just drop newflasher in fw folder and flash, works like a charm everytime.
What benefit do you get for excluding .ta?

Thinking about rooting my Device before updating to Pie (should i?)

Hey guys,
after all these good messages (like DRM Backup/fix etc.) i consider to root my device finally, like i did with my old Z1. but im also interested in the new pie update to test it out. So im asking myself for some weeks now:
Should i finally root or wait till the update? i heard about the problem of downgrading that, once u get the update you couldn't downgrade to the exploitable fw. What's more, I want to keep my warranty (i know that drm backup is working but the message, that my device cannot be trusted is still there at every boot). i use several banking apps that checks for root and my experience with magisk and root hiding weren't so good at all.
Thats my current situation. Should i root or not?
Irrespective of the Android Version, Rooting on XZP requires you to UNLOCK the bootloader and loosing your DRM KEYS.
so the solution is either xperifix or posts in XDA offering kernels of specific builds for you to flash.
1. lets say you are on OREO and unlock your bootloader, if you wana root that oreo version, you must find the post on XDA offering modded kernels W.R.T that buildnumber for you to flash and flash drmfix.zip & finally flash Magisk.
2. let say you are on PIE, again you will do the same, but I am not sure they already have modded kernels available on xda or not. so make sure!!!
the third option is always (disputed tool on xda known as) xperifix.

Im aware that i have to unlock the BL and all that stuff that i have to flash, thats not the problem at all. im just not sure if i should wait for the update (since some people experience some problems and they said they couldn't downgrade) and root or not. im currently waiting for the OTA update since my provider is vodafone and they take their time before releasing the fw. the benefits of the new updates, that i heard, are just some fixes for Android, new design for the camera ui, full hd ultra slow mo and some ui changes on xperia home. or did i miss some new functions?
If you unlook the BL, OTA didn't work anymore : so you must upgrade the phone by yourself. Via newflasher or (if you've a ftf file flash tool) you can up and downgrade when ever you want. I didn't know exactly in this this moment, how to hold the user data.... you lost in this moment only the feature video enhanced (something with X-....) if you unlook the BL and upgrade to Pie

DRM Fix for Android Pie

Hello,
Could you confirm me or not that for last two Android Pie firmware DRM Fix doesn't exist? Recently I have backup my TA and with XperiFix I got functional OREO with widevine L1. No errors in Security (service menu) after that. Of course I restore my TA.
Next I flashed one of recent Pie and I have a problem with keys. Widevine is only level 3 and security tab has many errors. I found some patched kernels from janjan but not for current software. I flashed kernel which hide bootloader status that it doesn’t help. Maybe someone has idea why?

Could you confirm me or not that for last two Android Pie firmware DRM Fix doesn't exist? Recently I have backup my TA and with XperiFix I got functional OREO with widevine L1. No errors in Security (service menu) after that. Of course I restore my TA.
Next I flashed one of recent Pie and I have a problem with keys. Widevine is only level 3 and security tab has many errors. I found some patched kernels from janjan but not for current software. I flashed kernel which hide bootloader status that it doesn’t help. Maybe someone has idea why?

Use this kernel by shoey63 (flash in twrp, flash magisk after and reboot).
Its built from latest .107 sources, and has double tap to wake included. To activate the double tap to wake, install the module linked and reboot.
Im assuming you have g8141, if you need the g8142 kernel, let me know.
Hi. Thanks for reply. I have G8142. Could you provide me version for dual sim?

No problem, same as above, flash the kernel in twrp, and then magisk v(whatever) and reboot.
Thanks a lot! My problem was related with not fully flashed Pie firmware by Newflasher. I flashed with Flashtool and now everything is ok. But your answer was helpful too all the best for you!
Hi i bought a refurbished XZP and it came with the bootloader unlocked, so i don't have a backup of the drm keys, is there a way to recover that???

No, the kernels are for people who have a ta backup, and yeah, xperifix died on Oreo.
