Download NovaLauncher. It's the best launcher app I have ever used. It builds upon the regular Ice Cream Sandwich launcher and is just about perfect to me.
If you dont like it can you just un-install it and everything will go back to the way it was before?

The launcher cannot be uninstalled. You're just using a 3rd party one. The 3rd part one can be uninstalled and it will revert back to the Sense launcher
I have found apex to be much better on my gs2. I am content with Rosie for now.

I'm using Apex
This is the first time Ive used Sense... well I used the first generation of it back when it was TouchFlo3D. I actually like it. Much better than TouchWiz.
The only downside is no sense widgets.

i tried all 3
i think i like Go launcher the best
I find Go Launcher to be so ugly. I prefer Apex a lot more and I'll be putting it on my One X as soon as it arrives.
I prefer Nova over all because it's a ICS themed launcher. That's the deal breaker to me.

what do you think apex is?
and it doesnt require you to buy an upgrade to get full use out of it....

lol, I will check it out though for sure. I apologize for my ignorance.
EDIT: Nova and Apex both have you pay to get basically the same features, at the same price. lol.

This! APEX is better overall than Nova... AND ITS COMPLETELY FREE.
*Nova Launcher Prime Features (Paid version)*
Drawer Groups:
Folders in App Drawer
Unlimited custom tabs
Gestures
Quickly start Nova Actions or Apps from gestures on the desktop, such as pinching, swiping or two-finger swiping.
Hide Apps
Keep a clutter free drawer by hidding never used apps.
Dock Swipes
Get more use out of your dock apps by setting swipe-actions
Apex Launcher Pro (Paid Version) Features:
- Multiple configurable drawer tabs
- Unread count notifications
- Dock swipe gestures
- Two finger gestures
- More transition effects
- Batch add option for folders
- Option to merge folder contents
- Widgets in dock (1x1 only)
- Overlapping widgets
- More features on the way!
They share some features only available in the pro version, but I think I am indeed going to try Apex as it seems the general consensus is that it's better xD

except, its an OUT OF THE WAY upgrade. if i try to add something to my homescreen or make changes, it doesnt tell me 'sorry, you have to pay money to get that feature'
the 'pro' features arent teased in the launcher like nova
thats why i prefer apex over nova. its not in my face to buy it.....(not that i dont support devs, but i have no use for those features)
That's a very reasonable opinion. lol. I'm getting Apex all set up right now just to see. I understand what yo mean with the in yo face kinda deal.
I've used both Apex and Nova on previous ICS phones. I'll be sticking with the Sense launcher until we have an AOSP based build

to be completely honest, i didnt even know APEX had a pro version until you said something....i definitely like that fact. LMAO
I basically just love this phone to death completely. No matter what launcher. but I will love it more when i have AOSP, AOKP, or MIUI on it.
Seems like when using a theme, the stock messaging has a little lag. Believe me, I see no other lag with the phone!
Wonder if there's a way to fix that?

Theme lag

I have the same issue. I had to delete the theme. I also noticed that even though I was running Google launcher the Samsung theme was still part of the launcher. Home page was Google launcher but settings and calendar still had the theme. I went back to default theme TouchWiz and my Google launcher home screen stays the same but the settings menu changed and the calendar. So I guess you can run the themes with a different launcher installed it all seems half thought out. It really screwed my phone up until I did a reboot.

BADASS NOTE 5 & 4 & LG G4
Do you use S8+ stock keybaord or SwiftKey or Gboard? if you use different keyboard can you give reason?
Been using SwiftKey for many years now. It almost feels like the stock keyboard for me. I have tested a few others, but I keep coming back to SwiftKey.
Cant specify exactly why, it just feels right.
SwiftKey for sure. Gboard isnt for me.
The stock I like but the question mark in a bad position. I had to go back to SwiftKey and I don't know why it took me so long to do so.
swift all the way it keeps my settings and spellings i cant live with out it...
Swype for me...
Swiftkey for me too, been using it for ages on loads of devices, it's the first app I download on a new phone.
Would like to try Gboard but the not syncing my dictionary due to the samsung security is a deal breaker for me
Samsung stock on S8 plus is pretty good I used Gboard but again jump to Samsung keyboard I hope I can change its white color to back!
Gboard is a king of keyboards for me.
I'm trying out cheetah keyboard for a few days now and I like it so far.

Umm.. you do have sync on Gboard...
Gboard, because it can correct three languages at the same time without having to switch.
I tried swift and liked it but came back to Gboard.

Unless I have missed something, the option to sync my keyboard is greyed out and cannot be enabled. Did some searching and apparently it is a samsung issue

same problem here Gboard can't save sync my words.....seem's like Samsung Knox blocked it
GBoard, because I type quickly and the other keyboards always tend to have some issue keeping up with me, but not GBoard. It's as close to Swiftkey being fast as I'm ever going to get. Also, it's one of the many keyboards that can run on most any device without issues or lag despite a lower-end device.
So I've used Swiftkey for years, but for some reason on my S8 its been causing it to freeze overnight. I didn't think it was the issue but as soon as i removed it, i stopped getting the freezing issue. Been using GBoard and its the closest so far to Swiftkey, but i still really miss it...

gboard because Gif, search and synch with my G-Account
but i prefer smasung keyboard because the clipboard really useful
Swype for me, been using since the beginning of android. Many themes, multi-language support (able to literally change language in 2sec flat), Bilingual, Swype gestures, swiping word prediction is very accurate imo after i tried the others, it is nowhere near Swype.
Con: I just dislike their Nuance/Dragon dictation voice if only it could change it to Google voice.

Gboard synch with my G-Account how?
Gboard, works great for me, light, simple and the stock dark theme that comes with it looks great.
Dictionary sync works great across 2 devices, so I'm a happy camper.
Hi, i've got the phone from a week now, it's cool but i've noticed some lag in play store and touchpal app. In play store is not smooth microlags everywhere and in touchpal it's worse. Have u got the same problem with play store? Is there a fix for this? Thanks
Anyone has noticed this? i've tried to optimize the apps with boost+ clear cache and data but nothing. Play store is very laggy and stuttering. Other apps are smooth. How can i fix this?
I removed boost+ from my device. Too many lags in some games...
I think it's him that causes the most issues, my playstore is normal, but touchpal is laggy by default in all devices that I've used.
It's just a behavior of the app, the htc and the official version has the same issue, I think it's due to theme loading, they may have done something not following google best practices.
thanks for your reply! Could it be the net? I'm currently on a 7MB

Can be, yes. When your link is to slow, the view(recyclerview, gridview, listview) in android takes more time to get the data and display it, maybe it's this "lag" that you're experiencing...

You might be a whole lot happier if you switched to the GBoard virtual keyboard. Touchpal stinks.

I used to agree with you. But now I'm using blackberry keyboard or touchpal, depending on the last update. The error rate typing eith GBoard for me is to high, can't figure why...
When I use blackberry I almost write everything perfect, the only problem is the keyboard theme. In touchpal I can set the size to be exact the same as the blackberry, so I get the theme that I want and with the precision.
That's for me, for you may be different, keyboard is to personal to a opinion fit to everyone.

Yeah, Touchpal is complete GARBAGE, got rid of it ASAP.
What launchers works for.you guys, i have nova and launcher 3 , i tried computer launcher but you cant re size it and thatt makes it useless to me, are there any side launchers around, i used to like those alot
Action launcher here is better than Launcher3.
After some crash issues with Launcher3...even though i used it for many years. I switched to the paid version of Nova launcher to allow for more customization and backups of the desktop.

I've been using Pixel 2 Launcher, MS Launcher and Lawnchair. The reason I flip between them is because I like them all.
I also went with Nova Prime and I'm pretty damn happy with it. I found it very customizable and easy to navigate through.
Lawnchair. I was a Nova user, but Lawnchair is now my favorite.
The pixel 2 launcher is my daily. The dark theme is the best to me. Makes everything look crisp. Especially the dark Google side page.

I like lawnchair but it doesn't support full screen on the Essential. I'm now using Microsoft launcher.

Have you tried it recently? I was using it until last night, and it was full screen. I found the no root Pixel 2 launcher, so I'm trying that for now. I'm not sure how I feel about the new Google Now.
I am kinda digging the Pixel 2 launcher... Although to be honest it isn't much different than the stock launcher...
Another happy Nova user here, has been using it on various Android phones and seems to be the best so far...
Nova Prime on my PH-1
I'd like to see some screenshots from these various launchers running on a PH-1.
I know they're all very customizable, so maybe screenshots won't be so useful. Still, I'd like to get an idea of what they look like.
(I've bought a PH-1, but I want actually get my hands on it till Christmas, which is why I can't try these out myself -- yet.)
ive had the paid NOVA for years as its a go to , its very customizable, used use zeam when it was around , launcher 3 is ok , i may have to try lawn chair
I use the Pixel 2 launcher, I like the Microsoft launcher, but very frequently when I leave an app or hit the home button the launcher screen has no icons, no widgets, nothing, like it hung... I'd use it exclusively if I didn't have this problem. I'm wondering if it's cause of the Oreo beta... so I'm looking forward to beta 2 to see if that clears up.

Screenshots won't help. It's things like gesture support, swipe for Google now page, custom icon packs that make a difference. And in the case of essential, support for the whole screen.
MS launcher has everything but Google now
